1:1 The proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel: 1 The proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel; 1 ダビデの子、イスラエルの王ソロモンの箴言。
1:2 to know wisdom and instruction; to discern the words of understanding; 2 To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding; 2 これは人に知恵と教訓とを知らせ、悟りの言葉をさとらせ、
1:3 to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity; 3 To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment and equity; 3 賢い行いと、正義と公正と公平の教訓をうけさせ、
1:4 to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young man: 4 To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion. 4 思慮のない者に悟りを与え、若い者に知識と慎みを得させるためである。
1:5 that the wise man may hear, and increase in learning; that the man of understanding may attain to sound counsel: 5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels: 5 賢い者はこれを聞いて学に進み、さとい者は指導を得る。
1:6 to understand a proverb, and parables, the words and riddles of the wise. 6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings. 6 人はこれによって箴言と、たとえと、賢い者の言葉と、そのなぞとを悟る。
1:7 The fear of Yahweh*1 is the beginning of knowledge; but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction. 7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. 7 主を恐れることは知識のはじめである、愚かな者は知恵と教訓を軽んじる。
1:8 My son, listen to your father's instruction, and don't forsake your mother's teaching: 8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother: 8 わが子よ、あなたは父の教訓を聞き、母の教を捨ててはならない。
1:9 for they will be a garland to grace your head, and chains around your neck. 9 For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck. 9 それらは、あなたの頭の麗しい冠となり、あなたの首の飾りとなるからである。
1:10 My son, if sinners entice you, don't consent. 10 My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. 10 わが子よ、悪者があなたを誘っても、それに従ってはならない。
1:11 If they say, "Come with us, Let's lay in wait for blood; let's lurk secretly for the innocent without cause; 11 If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause: 11 彼らがあなたに向かって、「一緒に来なさい。われわれは待ち伏せして、人の血を流し、罪のない者を、ゆえなく伏してねらい、

1:15 My son, don't walk in the way with them. Keep your foot from their path, 15 My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path: 15 わが子よ、彼らの仲間になってはならない、あなたの足をとどめて、彼らの道に行ってはならない。
1:16 for their feet run to evil. They hurry to shed blood. 16 For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood. 16 彼らの足は悪に走り、血を流すことに速いからだ。
1:17 For in vain is the net spread in the sight of any bird: 17 Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird. 17 すべて鳥の目の前で網を張るのは、むだである。
1:18 but these lay wait for their own blood. They lurk secretly for their own lives. 18 And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives. 18 彼らは自分の血を待ち伏せし、自分の命を伏してねらうのだ。
1:19 So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain. It takes away the life of its owners. 19 So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof. 19 すべて利をむさぼる者の道はこのようなものである。これはその持ち主の命を取り去るのだ。
1:20 Wisdom calls aloud in the street. She utters her voice in the public squares. 20 Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets: 20 知恵は、ちまたに呼ばわり、市場にその声をあげ、
1:21 She calls at the head of noisy places. At the entrance of the city gates, she utters her words: 21 She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying, 21 城壁の頂で叫び、町の門の入口で語る。
1:22 "How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? How long will mockers delight themselves in mockery,and fools hate knowledge? 22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge? 22 「思慮のない者たちよ、あなたがたは、いつまで思慮のないことを好むのか。あざける者は、いつまで、あざけり楽しみ、愚かな者は、いつまで、知識を憎むのか。
1:23 Turn at my reproof. Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you.I will make known my words to you. 23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you. 23 わたしの戒めに心をとめよ、見よ、わたしは自分の思いを、あなたがたに告げ、わたしの言葉を、あなたがたに知らせる。
1:24 Because I have called, and you have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one has paid attention; 24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; 24 わたしは呼んだが、あなたがたは聞くことを拒み、手を伸べたが、顧みる者はなく、
1:25 but you have ignored all my counsel, and wanted none of my reproof; 25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: 25 かえって、あなたがたはわたしのすべての勧めを捨て、わたしの戒めを受けなかったので、
1:26 I also will laugh at your disaster. I will mock when calamity overtakes you; 26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; 26 わたしもまた、あなたがたが災にあう時に、笑い、あなたがたが恐慌にあう時、あざけるであろう。
1:27 when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind; when distress and anguish come on you. 27 When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. 27 これは恐慌が、あらしのようにあなたがたに臨み、災が、つむじ風のように臨み、悩みと悲しみとが、あなたがたに臨む時である。
1:28 Then will they call on me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me; 28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: 28 その時、彼らはわたしを呼ぶであろう、しかし、わたしは答えない。ひたすら、わたしを求めるであろう、しかし、わたしに会えない。

1:30 They wanted none of my counsel. They despised all my reproof. 30 They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. 30 わたしの勧めに従わず、すべての戒めを軽んじたゆえ、
1:31 Therefore they will eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own schemes. 31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. 31 自分の行いの実を食らい、自分の計りごとに飽きる。
1:32 For the backsliding of the simple will kill them. The careless ease of fools will destroy them. 32 For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them. 32 思慮のない者の不従順はおのれを殺し、愚かな者の安楽はおのれを滅ぼす。
1:33 But whoever listens to me will dwell securely, and will be at ease, without fear of harm." 33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil. 33 しかし、わたしに聞き従う者は安らかに住まい、災に会う恐れもなく、安全である」。

2:1 My son, if you will receive my words, and store up my commandments within you; 1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; 1 わが子よ、もしあなたがわたしの言葉を受け、わたしの戒めを、あなたの心におさめ、
2:2 So as to turn your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; 2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; 2 あなたの耳を知恵に傾け、あなたの心を悟りに向け、
2:3 Yes, if you call out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding; 3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; 3 しかも、もし知識を呼び求め、悟りを得ようと、あなたの声をあげ、
2:4 If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures: 4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; 4 銀を求めるように、これを求め、かくれた宝を尋ねるように、これを尋ねるならば、
2:5 then you will understand the fear of Yahweh, and find the knowledge of God*3. 5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. 5 あなたは、主を恐れることを悟り、神を知ることができるようになる。
2:6 For Yahweh gives wisdom. Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding. 6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. 6 これは、主が知恵を与え、知識と悟りとは、み口から出るからである。
2:7 He lays up sound wisdom for the upright. He is a shield to those who walk in integrity; 7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. 7 彼は正しい人のために、確かな知恵をたくわえ、誠実に歩む者の盾となって、
2:8 that he may guard the paths of justice, and preserve the way of his saints. 8 He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints. 8 公正の道を保ち、その聖徒たちの道筋を守られる。
2:9 Then you will understand righteousness and justice, equity and every good path. 9 Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path. 9 また、あなたは悟るだろう。 正義と裁きと公平はすべて幸いに導く、と。
2:10 For wisdom will enter into your heart. Knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. 10 When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; 10 これは知恵が、あなたの心にはいり、知識があなたの魂に楽しみとなるからである。
2:11 Discretion will watch over you. Understanding will keep you, 11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee: 11 慎みはあなたを守り、悟りはあなたを保って、
2:12 to deliver you from the way of evil, from the men who speak perverse things; 12 To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things; 12 悪の道からあなたを救い、偽りをいう者から救う。
2:13 who forsake the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness; 13 Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness; 13 彼らは正しい道を離れて、暗い道に歩み、
2:14 who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the perverseness of evil; 14 Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked; 14 悪を行うことを楽しみ、悪人の偽りを喜び、
2:15 who are crooked in their ways, and wayward in their paths: 15 Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths: 15 その道は曲り、その行いは、よこしまである。
2:16 To deliver you from the strange woman, even from the foreigner who flatters with her words; 16 To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words; 16 慎みと悟りはまたあなたを遊女から救い、言葉の巧みな、みだらな女から救う。
2:17 who forsakes the friend of her youth, and forgets the covenant of her God: 17 Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God. 17 彼女は若い時の友を捨て、その神に契約したことを忘れている。
2:18 for her house leads down to death, her paths to the dead. 18 For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead. 18 その家は死に下り、その道は陰府におもむく。
2:19 None who go to her return again, neither do they attain to the paths of life: 19 None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life. 19 すべて彼女のもとへ行く者は、帰らない、また命の道にいたらない。
2:20 that you may walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous. 20 That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous. 20 こうして、あなたは善良な人々の道に歩み、正しい人々の道を守ることができる。
2:21 For the upright will dwell in the land. The perfect will remain in it. 21 For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it. 21 正しい人は地にながらえ、誠実な人は地にとどまる。
2:22 But the wicked will be cut off from the land. The treacherous will be rooted out of it. 22 But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it. 22 しかし悪しき者は地から断ち滅ぼされ、不信実な者は地から抜き捨てられる。
 
 

Chapter 3

第3章

3:1 My son, don't forget my teaching; but let your heart keep my commandments: 1 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: 1 わが子よ、わたしの教を忘れず、わたしの戒めを心にとめよ。
3:2 for length of days, and years of life, and peace, will they add to you. 2 For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. 2 そうすれば、これはあなたの日を長くし、命の年を延べ、あなたに平安を増し加える。
3:3 Don't let kindness and truth forsake you. Bind them around your neck. Write them on the tablet of your heart. 3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: 3 いつくしみと、まこととを捨ててはならない、それをあなたの首に結び、心の碑にしるせ。
3:4 So you will find favor, and good understanding in the sight of God and man. 4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. 4 そうすれば、あなたは神と人との前に恵みと、誉とを得る。
3:5 Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don't lean on your own understanding. 5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 5 心をつくして主に信頼せよ、自分の知識にたよってはならない。
3:6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 6 すべての道で主を認めよ、そうすれば、主はあなたの道をまっすぐにされる。
3:7 Don't be wise in your own eyes. Fear Yahweh, and depart from evil. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. 7 自分を見て賢いと思ってはならない、主を恐れて、悪を離れよ。
3:8 It will be health to your body, and nourishment to your bones. 8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. 8 そうすれば、あなたの身を健やかにし、あなたの骨に元気を与える。
3:9 Honor Yahweh with your substance, with the first fruits of all your increase: 9 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: 9 あなたの財産と、すべての産物の初なりをもって主をあがめよ。
3:10 so your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine. 10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine. 10 そうすれば、あなたの倉は満ちて余り、あなたの酒ぶねは新しい酒であふれる。
3:11 My son, don't despise Yahweh's discipline, neither be weary of his reproof: 11 My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: 11 わが子よ、主の懲らしめを軽んじてはならない、その戒めをきらってはならない。
3:12 for whom Yahweh loves, he reproves; even as a father reproves the son in whom he delights. 12 For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth. 12 主は、愛する者を、戒められるからである、あたかも父がその愛する子を戒めるように。
3:13 Happy is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gets understanding. 13 Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. 13 知恵を求めて得る人、悟りを得る人はさいわいである。
3:14 For her good profit is better than getting silver, and her return is better than fine gold. 14 For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. 14 知恵によって得るものは、銀によって得るものにまさり、その利益は精金よりも良いからである。
3:15 She is more precious than rubies. None of the things you can desire are to be compared to her. 15 She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. 15 知恵は宝石よりも尊く、あなたの望む何物も、これと比べるに足りない。
3:16 Length of days is in her right hand. In her left hand are riches and honor. 16 Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour. 16 その右の手には長寿があり、左の手には富と、誉がある。
3:17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness. All her paths are peace. 17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. 17 その道は楽しい道であり、その道筋はみな平安である。
3:18 She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her. Happy is everyone who retains her. 18 She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her. 18 知恵は、これを捕える者には命の木である、これをしっかり捕える人はさいわいである。
3:19 By wisdom Yahweh founded the earth. By understanding, he established the heavens. 19 The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens. 19 主は知恵をもって地の基をすえ、悟りをもって天を定められた。
3:20 By his knowledge, the depths were broken up, and the skies drop down the dew. 20 By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew. 20 その知識によって海はわきいで、雲は露をそそぐ。
3:21 My son, let them not depart from your eyes. Keep sound wisdom and discretion: 21 My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion: 21 わが子よ、確かな知恵と、慎みとを守って、それをあなたの目から離してはならない。
3:22 so they will be life to your soul, and grace for your neck. 22 So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck. 22 それはあなたの魂の命となりあなたの首の飾りとなる。
3:23 Then you shall walk in your way securely. Your foot won't stumble. 23 Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble. 23 こうして、あなたは安らかに自分の道を行き、あなたの足はつまずくことがない。
3:24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid. Yes, you will lie down, and your sleep will be sweet. 24 When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet. 24 あなたは座しているとき、恐れることはなく、伏すとき、あなたの眠りはここちよい。
3:25 Don't be afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it comes: 25 Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. 25 あなたはにわかに起る恐怖を恐れることなく、悪しき者の滅びが来ても、それを恐れることはない。
3:26 for Yahweh will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being taken. 26 For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken. 26 これは、主があなたの信頼する者であり、あなたの足を守って、わなに捕われさせられないからである。
3:27 Don't withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it. 27 Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it. 27 あなたの手に善をなす力があるならば、これをなすべき人になすことをさし控えてはならない。
3:28 Don't say to your neighbor, "Go, and come again; tomorrow I will give it to you," when you have it by you. 28 Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee. 28 あなたが物を持っている時、その隣り人に向かい、「去って、また来なさい。あす、それをあげよう」と言ってはならない。
3:29 Don't devise evil against your neighbor, since he dwells securely by you. 29 Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee. 29 あなたの隣り人がかたわらに安らかに住んでいる時、これに向かって、悪を計ってはならない。
3:30 Don't strive with a man without cause, if he has done you no harm. 30 Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm. 30 もし人があなたに悪を行ったのでなければ、ゆえなく、これと争ってはならない。
3:31 Don't envy the man of violence. Choose none of his ways. 31 Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways. 31 暴虐な人を、うらやんではならない、そのすべての道を選んではならない。
3:32 For the perverse is an abomination to Yahweh, but his friendship is with the upright. 32 For the froward is abomination to the LORD: but his secret is with the righteous. 32 よこしまな者は主に憎まれるからである、しかし、正しい者は主に信任される。
3:33 Yahweh's curse is in the house of the wicked, but he blesses the habitation of the righteous. 33 The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just. 33 主の、のろいは悪しき者の家にある、しかし、正しい人のすまいは主に恵まれる。
3:34 Surely he mocks the mockers, but he gives grace to the humble. 34 Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly. 34 彼はあざける者をあざけり、へりくだる者に恵みを与えられる。

4:1 Listen, sons, to a father's instruction. Pay attention and know understanding; 1 Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. 1 子供らよ、父の教を聞き、悟りを得るために耳を傾けよ。
4:2 for I give you sound learning. Don't forsake my law. 2 For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law. 2 わたしは、良い教訓を、あなたがたにさずける。わたしの教を捨ててはならない。
4:3 For I was a son to my father, tender and an only child in the sight of my mother. 3 For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother. 3 わたしもわが父には子であり、わが母の目には、ひとりのいとし子であった。
4:4 He taught me, and said to me: "Let your heart retain my words.Keep my commandments, and live. 4 He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live. 4 父はわたしを教えて言った、「わたしの言葉を、心に留め、わたしの戒めを守って、命を得よ。
4:5 Get wisdom. Get understanding.Don't forget, neither swerve from the words of my mouth. 5 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. 5 それを忘れることなく、またわが口の言葉にそむいてはならない、知恵を得よ、悟りを得よ。
4:6 Don't forsake her, and she will preserve you. Love her, and she will keep you. 6 Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. 6 知恵を捨てるな、それはあなたを守る。それを愛せよ、それはあなたを保つ。
4:7 Wisdom is supreme. Get wisdom. Yes, though it costs all your possessions, get understanding. 7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. 7 知恵の初めはこれである、知恵を得よ、あなたが何を得るにしても、悟りを得よ。
4:8 Esteem her, and she will exalt you. She will bring you to honor, when you embrace her. 8 Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her. 8 それを尊べ、そうすれば、それはあなたを高くあげる、もしそれをいだくならば、それはあなたを尊くする。

4:13 Take firm hold of instruction. Don't let her go.Keep her, for she is your life. 13 Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life. 13 教訓をかたくとらえて、離してはならない、それを守れ、それはあなたの命である。
4:14 Don't enter into the path of the wicked. Don't walk in the way of evil men. 14 Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. 14 よこしまな者の道に、はいってはならない、悪しき者の道を歩んではならない。
4:15 Avoid it, and don't pass by it. Turn from it, and pass on. 15 Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away. 15 それを避けよ、通ってはならない、それを離れて進め。

5:19 A loving doe and a graceful deer-- let her breasts satisfy you at all times. 6:11 so your poverty will come as a robber, and your scarcity as an armed man. 11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man. 11 それゆえ、貧しさは盗びとのようにあなたに来り、乏しさは、つわもののようにあなたに来る。

6:14 in whose heart is perverseness, who devises evil continually,who always sows discord. 14 Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord. 14 よこしまな心をもって悪を計り、絶えず争いをおこす。
6:15 Therefore his calamity will come suddenly. He will be broken suddenly, and that without remedy. 15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy. 15 それゆえ、災は、にわかに彼に臨み、たちまちにして打ち敗られ、助かることはない。
6:16 There are six things which Yahweh hates; yes, seven which are an abomination to him: 16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 16 主の憎まれるものが六つある、否、その心に、忌みきらわれるものが七つある。

6:20 My son, keep your father's commandment, and don't forsake your mother's teaching. 20 My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother: 20 わが子よ、あなたの父の戒めを守り、あなたの母の教を捨てるな。
6:21 Bind them continually on your heart. Tie them around your neck. 21 Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck. 21 つねに、これをあなたの心に結び、あなたの首のまわりにつけよ。
6:22 When you walk, it will lead you. When you sleep, it will watch over you. 6:30 Men don't despise a thief, if he steals to satisfy himself when he is hungry: 30 Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry; 30 盗びとが飢えたとき、その飢えを満たすために盗むならば、人は彼を軽んじないであろうか。
6:31 but if he is found, he shall restore seven times. He shall give all the wealth of his house. 31 But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house. 31 もし捕えられたなら、その七倍を償い、その家の貨財を、ことごとく出さなければならない。
6:32 He who commits adultery with a woman is void of understanding. He who does it destroys his own soul. 32 But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul. 32 女と姦淫を行う者は思慮がない。これを行う者はおのれを滅ぼし、

6:34 For jealousy arouses the fury of the husband. He won't spare in the day of vengeance. 34 For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance. 34 ねたみは、その夫を激しく怒らせるゆえ、恨みを報いるとき、容赦することはない。

8:6 Hear, for I will speak excellent things. The opening of my lips is for right things. 6 Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things. 6 聞け、わたしは高貴な事を語り、わがくちびるは正しい事を語り出す。

8:10 Receive my instruction rather than silver; knowledge rather than choice gold. 10 Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold. 10 あなたがたは銀を受けるよりも、わたしの教を受けよ、精金よりも、むしろ知識を得よ。
8:11 For wisdom is better than rubies. All the things that may be desired can't be compared to it. 11 For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it. 11 知恵は宝石にまさり、あなたがたの望むすべての物は、これと比べるにたりない。

8:13 The fear of Yahweh is to hate evil. I hate pride, arrogance, the evil way, and the perverse mouth. 13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. 13 主を恐れるとは悪を憎むことである。わたしは高ぶりと、おごりと、悪しき道と、偽りの言葉とを憎む。
8:14 Counsel and sound knowledge are mine. I have understanding and power. 14 Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength. 14 計りごとと、確かな知恵とは、わたしにある、わたしには悟りがあり、わたしには力がある。
8:15 By me kings reign, and princes decree justice. 15 By me kings reign, and princes decree justice. 15 わたしによって、王たる者は世を治め、君たる者は正しい定めを立てる。

9:7 He who corrects a mocker invites insult. He who reproves a wicked man invites abuse. 7 He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot. 7 あざける者を戒める者は、自ら恥を得、悪しき者を責める者は自ら傷を受ける。
9:8 Don't reprove a scoffer, lest he hate you. Reprove a wise man, and he will love you. 8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. 8 あざける者を責めるな、おそらく彼はあなたを憎むであろう。知恵ある者を責めよ、彼はあなたを愛する。

10:2 Treasures of wickedness profit nothing, but righteousness delivers from death. 2 Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death. 2 不義の宝は益なく、正義は人を救い出して、死を免れさせる。
10:3 Yahweh will not allow the soul of the righteous to go hungry, but he thrusts away the desire of the wicked. 3 The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked. 3 主は正しい人を飢えさせず、悪しき者の欲望をくじかれる。
10:4 He becomes poor who works with a lazy hand, but the hand of the diligent brings wealth. 4 He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich. 4 手を動かすことを怠る者は貧しくなり、勤め働く者の手は富を得る。
10:5 He who gathers in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps during the harvest is a son who causes shame. 5 He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame. 5 夏のうちに集める者は賢い子であり、刈入れの時に眠る者は恥をきたらせる子である。
10:6 Blessings are on the head of the righteous, but violence covers the mouth of the wicked. 6 Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked. 6 正しい者のこうべには祝福があり、悪しき者の口は暴虐を隠す。
10:7 The memory of the righteous is blessed, but the name of the wicked will rot. 7 The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot. 7 正しい者の名はほめられ、悪しき者の名は朽ちる。
10:8 The wise in heart accept commandments, but a chattering fool will fall. 8 The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall. 8 心のさとき者は戒めを受ける、むだ口をたたく愚かな者は滅ぼされる。
10:9 He who walks blamelessly walks surely, but he who perverts his ways will be found out. 9 He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known. 9 まっすぐに歩む者の歩みは安全である、しかし、その道を曲げる者は災にあう。

10:13 Wisdom is found on the lips of him who has discernment, but a rod is for the back of him who is void of understanding. 13 In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding. 13 さとき者のくちびるには知恵があり、知恵のない者の背にはむちがある。
10:14 Wise men lay up knowledge, but the mouth of the foolish is near ruin. 14 Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction. 14 知恵ある者は知識をたくわえる、愚かな者のむだ口は、今にも滅びをきたらせる。
10:15 The rich man's wealth is his strong city. The destruction of the poor is their poverty. 15 The rich man's wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty. 15 富める者の宝は、その堅き城であり、貧しい者の乏しきは、その滅びである。
10:16 The labor of the righteous leads to life. The increase of the wicked leads to sin. 16 The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin. 16 正しい者の受ける賃銀は命に導き、悪しき者の利得は罪に至る。
10:17 He is in the way of life who heeds correction, but he who forsakes reproof leads others astray. 17 He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth. 17 教訓を守る者は命の道にあり、懲らしめを捨てる者は道をふみ迷う。
10:18 He who hides hatred has lying lips. He who utters a slander is a fool. 18 He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool. 18 憎しみを隠す者には偽りのくちびるがあり、そしりを口に出す者は愚かな者である。
10:19 In the multitude of words there is no lack of disobedience, but he who restrains his lips does wisely. 19 In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise. 19 言葉が多ければ、とがを免れない、自分のくちびるを制する者は知恵がある。
10:20 The tongue of the righteous is like choice silver. The heart of the wicked is of little worth. 20 The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth. 20 正しい者の舌は精銀である、悪しき者の心は価値が少ない。
10:21 The lips of the righteous feed many, but the foolish die for lack of understanding. 21 The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom. 21 正しい者のくちびるは多くの人を養い、愚かな者は知恵がなくて死ぬ。
10:22 Yahweh's blessing brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it. 22 The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it. 22 主の祝福は人を富ませる、主はこれになんの悲しみをも加えない。
10:23 It is a fool's pleasure to do wickedness, but wisdom is a man of understanding's pleasure. 23 It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom. 23 愚かな者は、戯れ事のように悪を行う、さとき人には賢い行いが楽しみである。
10:24 What the wicked fear, will overtake them, but the desire of the righteous will be granted. 24 The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted. 24 悪しき者の恐れることは自分に来り、正しい者の願うことは与えられる。
10:25 When the whirlwind passes, the wicked is no more; but the righteous stand firm forever. 25 As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation. 25 あらしが通りすぎる時、悪しき者は、もはや、いなくなり、正しい者は永久に堅く立てられる。
10:26 As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to those who send him. 26 As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him. 26 なまけ者は、これをつかわす者にとっては、酢が歯をいため、煙が目を悩ますようなものだ。
10:27 The fear of Yahweh prolongs days, but the years of the wicked shall be shortened. 27 The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened. 27 主を恐れることは人の命の日を多くする、悪しき者の年は縮められる。
10:28 The prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hope of the wicked will perish. 28 The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish. 28 正しい者の望みは喜びに終り、悪しき者の望みは絶える。
10:29 The way of Yahweh is a stronghold to the upright, but it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity. 29 The way of the LORD is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity. 29 主は、まっすぐに歩む者には城であり、悪を行う者には滅びである。
10:30 The righteous will never be removed, but the wicked will not dwell in the land. 30 The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth. 30 正しい者はいつまでも動かされることはない、悪しき者は、地に住むことができない。
10:31 The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, but the perverse tongue will be cut off. 31 The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out. 31 正しい者の口は知恵をいだし、偽りの舌は抜かれる。

11:1 A false balance is an abomination to Yahweh, but accurate weights are his delight. 1 A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight. 1 偽りのはかりは主に憎まれ、正しいふんどうは彼に喜ばれる。
11:2 When pride comes, then comes shame, but with humility comes wisdom. 2 When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom. 2 高ぶりが来れば、恥もまた来る、へりくだる者には知恵がある。
11:3 The integrity of the upright shall guide them, but the perverseness of the treacherous shall destroy them. 3 The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them. 3 正しい者の誠実はその人を導き、不信実な者のよこしまはその人を滅ぼす。
11:4 Riches don't profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death. 4 Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death. 4 宝は怒りの日に益なく、正義は人を救い出して、死を免れさせる。

11:6 The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them, but the unfaithful will be trapped by evil desires. 6 The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness. 6 正しい者はその正義によって救われ、不信実な者は自分の欲によって捕えられる。
11:7 When a wicked man dies, hope perishes, and expectation of power comes to nothing. 7 When a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust men perisheth. 7 悪しき者は死ぬとき、その望みは絶え、不信心な者の望みもまた絶える。
11:8 A righteous person is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked takes his place. 8 The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked cometh in his stead. 8 正しい者は、悩みから救われ、悪しき者は代ってそれに陥る。

11:13 One who brings gossip betrays a confidence, but one who is of a trustworthy spirit is one who keeps a secret. 13 A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter. 13 人のよしあしを言いあるく者は秘密をもらす、心の忠信なる者は事を隠す。
11:14 Where there is no wise guidance, the nation falls, but in the multitude of counselors there is victory. 14 Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellers there is safety. 14 指導者がなければ民は倒れ、助言者が多ければ安全である。
11:15 He who is collateral for a stranger will suffer for it, but he who refuses pledges of collateral is secure. 15 He that is surety for a stranger shall smart for it: and he that hateth suretiship is sure. 15 他人のために保証をする者は苦しみをうけ、保証をきらう者は安全である。
11:16 A gracious woman obtains honor, but violent men obtain riches. 16 A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong men retain riches. 16 しとやかな女は、誉を得、強暴な男は富を得る。
11:17 The merciful man does good to his own soul, but he who is cruel troubles his own flesh. 17 The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh. 17 いつくしみある者はおのれ自身に益を得、残忍な者はおのれの身をそこなう。
11:18 Wicked people earn deceitful wages, but one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward. 18 The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward. 18 悪しき者の得る報いはむなしく、正義を播く者は確かな報いを得る。
11:19 He who is truly righteous gets life. He who pursues evil gets death. 19 As righteousness tendeth to life: so he that pursueth evil pursueth it to his own death. 19 正義を堅く保つ者は命に至り、悪を追い求める者は死を招く。
11:20 Those who are perverse in heart are an abomination to Yahweh, but those whose ways are blameless are his delight. 20 They that are of a froward heart are abomination to the LORD: but such as are upright in their way are his delight. 20 心のねじけた者は主に憎まれ、まっすぐに道を歩む者は彼に喜ばれる。
11:21 Most certainly, the evil man will not be unpunished, but the seed of the righteous will be delivered. 21 Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered. 21 確かに、悪人は罰を免れない、しかし正しい人は救を得る。
11:22 Like a gold ring in a pig's snout, is a beautiful woman who lacks discretion. 22 As a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion. 22 美しい女の慎みがないのは、金の輪の、ぶたの鼻にあるようだ。
11:23 The desire of the righteous is only good. The expectation of the wicked is wrath. 23 The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the wicked is wrath. 23 正しい者の願いは、すべて良い結果を得、悪しき者の望みは怒りに至る。
11:24 There is one who scatters, and increases yet more. There is one who withholds more than is appropriate, but gains poverty. 24 There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty. 24 施し散らして、なお富を増す人があり、与えるべきものを惜しんで、かえって貧しくなる者がある。
11:25 The liberal soul shall be made fat. He who waters shall be watered also himself. 25 The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself. 25 物惜しみしない者は富み、人を潤す者は自分も潤される。
11:26 People curse someone who withholds grain, but blessing will be on the head of him who sells it. 26 He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it. 26 穀物を、しまい込んで売らない者は民にのろわれる、それを売る者のこうべには祝福がある。
11:27 He who diligently seeks good seeks favor, but he who searches after evil, it shall come to him. 27 He that diligently seeketh good procureth favour: but he that seeketh mischief, it shall come unto him. 27 善を求める者は恵みを得る、悪を求める者には悪が来る。
11:28 He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous shall flourish as the green leaf. 28 He that trusteth in his riches shall fall; but the righteous shall flourish as a branch. 28 自分の富を頼む者は衰える、正しい者は木の青葉のように栄える。
11:29 He who troubles his own house shall inherit the wind. The foolish shall be servant to the wise of heart. 29 He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart. 29 自分の家族を苦しめる者は風を所有とする、愚かな者は心のさとき者のしもべとなる。
11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life. He who is wise wins souls. 30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise. 30 正しい者の結ぶ実は命の木である、不法な者は人の命をとる。

12:1 Whoever loves correction loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid. 1 Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish. 1 戒めを愛する人は知識を愛する、懲らしめを憎む者は愚かである。
12:2 A good man shall obtain favor from Yahweh, but he will condemn a man of wicked devices. 2 A good man obtaineth favour of the LORD: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn. 2 善人は主の恵みをうけ、悪い計りごとを設ける人は主に罰せられる。
12:3 A man shall not be established by wickedness, but the root of the righteous shall not be moved. 3 A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved. 3 人は悪をもって堅く立つことはできない、正しい人の根は動くことはない。
12:4 A worthy woman is the crown of her husband, but a disgraceful wife is as rottenness in his bones. 4 A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones. 4 賢い妻はその夫の冠である、恥をこうむらせる妻は夫の骨に生じた腐れのようなものである。
12:5 The thoughts of the righteous are just, but the advice of the wicked is deceitful. 5 The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit. 5 正しい人の考えは公正である、悪しき者の計ることは偽りである。
12:6 The words of the wicked are about lying in wait for blood, but the speech of the upright rescues them. 6 The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them. 6 悪しき者の言葉は、人の血を流そうとうかがう、正しい人の口は人を救う。
12:7 The wicked are overthrown, and are no more, but the house of the righteous shall stand. 7 The wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the righteous shall stand. 7 悪しき者は倒されて、うせ去る、正しい人の家は堅く立つ。
12:8 A man shall be commended according to his wisdom, but he who has a warped mind shall be despised. 8 A man shall be commended according to his wisdom: but he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised. 8 人はその悟りにしたがって、ほめられ、心のねじけた者は、卑しめられる。
12:9 Better is he who is lightly esteemed, and has a servant, than he who honors himself, and lacks bread. 9 He that is despised, and hath a servant, is better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread. 9 身分の低い人でも自分で働く者は、みずから高ぶって食に乏しい者にまさる。
12:10 A righteous man respects the life of his animal, but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel. 10 A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel. 10 正しい人はその家畜の命を顧みる、悪しき者は残忍をもって、あわれみとする。
12:11 He who tills his land shall have plenty of bread, but he who chases fantasies is void of understanding. 11 He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding. 11 自分の田地を耕す者は食糧に飽きる、無益な事に従う者は知恵がない。
12:12 The wicked desires the plunder of evil men, but the root of the righteous flourishes. 12 The wicked desireth the net of evil men: but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit. 12 悪しき者の堅固なやぐらは崩壊する、正しい人の根は堅く立つ。
12:13 An evil man is trapped by sinfulness of lips, but the righteous shall come out of trouble. 13 The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble. 13 悪人はくちびるのとがによって、わなに陥る、しかし正しい人は悩みをのがれる。
12:14 A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth. The work of a man's hands shall be rewarded to him. 14 A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him. 14 人はその口の実によって、幸福に満ち足り、人の手のわざは、その人の身に帰る。
12:15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he who is wise listens to counsel. 15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise. 15 愚かな人の道は、自分の目に正しく見える、しかし知恵ある者は勧めをいれる。
12:16 A fool shows his annoyance the same day, but one who overlooks an insult is prudent. 16 A fool's wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covereth shame. 16 愚かな人は、すぐに怒りをあらわす、しかし賢い人は、はずかしめをも気にとめない。
12:17 He who is truthful testifies honestly, but a false witness lies. 17 He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit. 17 真実を語る人は正しい証言をなし、偽りの証人は偽りを言う。
12:18 There is one who speaks rashly like the piercing of a sword, but the tongue of the wise heals. 18 There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health. 18 つるぎをもって刺すように、みだりに言葉を出す者がある、しかし知恵ある人の舌は人をいやす。
12:19 Truth's lips will be established forever, but a lying tongue is only momentary. 19 The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment. 19 真実を言うくちびるは、いつまでも保つ、偽りを言う舌は、ただ、まばたきの間だけである。
12:20 Deceit is in the heart of those who plot evil, but joy comes to the promoters of peace. 20 Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellers of peace is joy. 20 悪をたくらむ者の心には欺きがあり、善をはかる人には喜びがある。
12:21 No mischief shall happen to the righteous, but the wicked shall be filled with evil. 21 There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief. 21 正しい人にはなんの害悪も生じない、しかし悪しき者は災をもって満たされる。
12:22 Lying lips are an abomination to Yahweh, but those who do the truth are his delight. 22 Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight. 22 偽りを言うくちびるは主に憎まれ、真実を行う者は彼に喜ばれる。
12:23 A prudent man keeps his knowledge, but the hearts of fools proclaim foolishness. 23 A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness. 23 さとき人は知識をかくす、しかし愚かな者は自分の愚かなことをあらわす。
12:24 The hands of the diligent ones shall rule, but laziness ends in slave labor. 24 The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute. 24 勤め働く者の手はついに人を治める、怠る者は人に仕えるようになる。
12:25 Anxiety in a man's heart weighs it down, but a kind word makes it glad. 25 Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad. 25 心に憂いがあればその人をかがませる、しかし親切な言葉はその人を喜ばせる。
12:26 A righteous person is cautious in friendship, but the way of the wicked leads them astray. 26 The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduceth them. 26 正しい人は悪を離れ去る、しかし悪しき者は自ら道に迷う。
12:27 The slothful man doesn't roast his game, but the possessions of diligent men are prized. 27 The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious. 27 怠る者は自分の獲物を捕えない、しかし勤め働く人は尊い宝を獲る。

13:1 A wise son listens to his father's instruction, but a scoffer doesn't listen to rebuke. 1 A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke. 1 知恵ある子は父の教訓をきく、あざける者は、懲らしめをきかない。
13:2 By the fruit of his lips, a man enjoys good things; but the unfaithful crave violence. 2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence. 2 善良な人はその口の実によって、幸福を得る、不信実な者の願いは、暴虐である。
13:3 He who guards his mouth guards his soul. One who opens wide his lips comes to ruin. 3 He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction. 3 口を守る者はその命を守る、くちびるを大きく開く者には滅びが来る。
13:4 The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing, but the desire of the diligent shall be fully satisfied. 4 The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat. 4 なまけ者の心は、願い求めても、何も得ない、しかし勤め働く者の心は豊かに満たされる。
13:5 A righteous man hates lies, but a wicked man brings shame and disgrace. 5 A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame. 5 正しい人は偽りを憎む、しかし悪しき人は恥ずべく、忌まわしくふるまう。
13:6 Righteousness guards the way of integrity, but wickedness overthrows the sinner. 6 Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner. 6 正義は道をまっすぐ歩む者を守り、罪は悪しき者を倒す。
13:7 There are some who pretend to be rich, yet have nothing. There are some who pretend to be poor, yet have great wealth. 7 There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches. 7 富んでいると偽って、何も持たない者がいる、貧しいと偽って、多くの富を持つ者がいる。
13:8 The ransom of a man's life is his riches, but the poor hear no threats. 8 The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke. 8 人の富はその命をあがなう、しかし貧しい者にはあがなうべき富がない。
13:9 The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out. 9 The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out. 9 正しい者の光は輝き、悪しき者のともしびは消される。
13:10 Pride only breeds quarrels, but with ones who take advice is wisdom. 10 Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom. 10 高ぶりはただ争いを生じる、勧告をきく者は知恵がある。
13:11 Wealth gained dishonestly dwindles away, but he who gathers by hand makes it grow. 11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase. 11 急いで得た富は減る、少しずつたくわえる者はそれを増すことができる。
13:12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when longing is fulfilled, it is a tree of life. 12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life. 12 望みを得ることが長びくときは、心を悩ます、願いがかなうときは、命の木を得たようだ。
13:13 Whoever despises instruction will pay for it, but he who respects a command will be rewarded. 13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded. 13 み言葉を軽んじる者は滅ぼされ、戒めを重んじる者は報いを得る。
13:14 The teaching of the wise is a spring of life, to turn from the snares of death. 14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death. 14 知恵ある人の教は命の泉である、これによって死のわなをのがれることができる。
13:15 Good understanding wins favor; but the way of the unfaithful is hard. 15 Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard. 15 善良な賢い者は恵みを得る、しかし、不信実な者の道は滅びである。
13:16 Every prudent man acts from knowledge, but a fool exposes folly. 16 Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly. 16 おおよそ、さとき者は知識によって事をおこない、愚かな者は自分の愚を見せびらかす。
13:17 A wicked messenger falls into trouble, but a trustworthy envoy gains healing. 17 A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health. 17 悪しき使者は人を災におとしいれる、しかし忠実な使者は人を救う。
13:18 Poverty and shame come to him who refuses discipline, but he who heeds correction shall be honored. 18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured. 18 貧乏と、はずかしめとは教訓を捨てる者に来る、しかし戒めを守る者は尊ばれる。
13:19 Longing fulfilled is sweet to the soul, but fools detest turning from evil. 19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil. 19 願いがかなえば、心は楽しい、愚かな者は悪を捨てることをきらう。
13:20 One who walks with wise men grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm. 20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed. 20 知恵ある者とともに歩む者は知恵を得る。愚かな者の友となる者は害をうける。
13:21 Misfortune pursues sinners, but prosperity rewards the righteous. 21 Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed. 21 災は罪びとを追い、正しい者は良い報いを受ける。
13:22 A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, but the wealth of the sinner is stored for the righteous. 22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just. 22 善良な人はその嗣業を子孫にのこす、しかし罪びとの富は正しい人のためにたくわえられる。
13:23 An abundance of food is in poor people's fields, but injustice sweeps it away. 23 Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment. 23 貧しい人の新田は多くの食糧を産する、しかし不正によれば押し流される。
13:24 One who spares the rod hates his son, but one who loves him is careful to discipline him. 24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes. 24 むちを加えない者はその子を憎むのである、子を愛する者は、つとめてこれを懲らしめる。
13:25 The righteous one eats to the satisfying of his soul, but the belly of the wicked goes hungry. 25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want. 25 正しい者は食べてその食欲を満たす、しかし悪しき者の腹は満たされない。

14:1 Every wise woman builds her house, but the foolish one tears it down with her own hands. 1 Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands. 1 知恵はその家を建て、愚かさは自分の手でそれをこわす。
14:2 He who walks in his uprightness fears Yahweh, but he who is perverse in his ways despises him. 2 He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD: but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him. 2 まっすぐに歩む者は主を恐れる、曲って歩む者は主を侮る。
14:3 The fool's talk brings a rod to his back, but the lips of the wise protect them. 3 In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them. 3 愚かな者の言葉は自分の背にむちを当てる、知恵ある者のくちびるはその身を守る。
14:4 Where no oxen are, the crib is clean, but much increase is by the strength of the ox. 4 Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox. 4 牛がなければ穀物はない、牛の力によって農作物は多くなる。
14:5 A truthful witness will not lie, but a false witness pours out lies. 5 A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies. 5 真実な証人はうそをいわない、偽りの証人はうそをつく。
14:6 A scoffer seeks wisdom, and doesn't find it, but knowledge comes easily to a discerning person. 6 A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth. 6 あざける者は知恵を求めても得られない、さとき者は知識を得ることがたやすい。
14:7 Stay away from a foolish man, for you won't find knowledge on his lips. 7 Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge. 7 愚かな者の前を離れ去れ、そこには知識の言葉がないからである。
14:8 The wisdom of the prudent is to think about his way, but the folly of fools is deceit. 8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit. 8 さとき者の知恵は自分の道をわきまえることにあり、愚かな者の愚かは、欺くことにある。
14:9 Fools mock at making atonement for sins, but among the upright there is good will. 9 Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour. 9 神は悪しき者をあざけられる、正しい者は、その恵みを受ける。
14:10 The heart knows its own bitterness and joy; he will not share these with a stranger. 10 The heart knoweth his own bitterness; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with his joy. 10 心の苦しみは心みずからが知る、その喜びには他人はあずからない。
14:11 The house of the wicked will be overthrown, but the tent of the upright will flourish. 11 The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish. 11 悪しき者の家は滅ぼされ、正しい者の幕屋は栄える。
14:12 There is a way which seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death. 12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. 12 人が見て自ら正しいとする道でも、その終りはついに死に至る道となるものがある。
14:13 Even in laughter the heart may be sorrowful, and mirth may end in heaviness. 13 Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness. 13 笑う時にも心に悲しみがあり、喜びのはてに憂いがある。
14:14 The unfaithful will be repaid for his own ways; likewise a good man will be rewarded for his ways. 14 The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself. 14 心のもとれる者はそのしわざの実を刈り取り、善良な人もまたその行いの実を刈り取る。
14:15 A simple man believes everything, but the prudent man carefully considers his ways. 15 The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going. 15 思慮のない者はすべてのことを信じる、さとき者は自分の歩みを慎む。
14:16 A wise man fears, and shuns evil, but the fool is hotheaded and reckless. 16 A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident. 16 知恵ある者は用心ぶかく、悪を離れる、愚かな者は高ぶって用心しない。
14:17 He who is quick to become angry will commit folly, and a crafty man is hated. 17 He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated. 17 怒りやすい者は愚かなことを行い、賢い者は忍耐強い。

15:4 A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but deceit in it crushes the spirit. 4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit. 4 優しい舌は命の木である、乱暴な言葉は魂を傷つける。
15:5 A fool despises his father's correction, but he who heeds reproof shows prudence. 5 A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent. 5 愚かな者は父の教訓を軽んじる、戒めを守る者は賢い者である。

15:19 The way of the sluggard is like a thorn patch, but the path of the upright is a highway. 19 The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain. 19 なまけ者の道には、いばらがはえしげり、正しい者の道は平らかである。

15:24 The path of life leads upward for the wise, to keep him from going downward to Sheol*8. 24 The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath. 24 知恵ある人の道は上って命に至る、こうしてその人は下にある陰府を離れる。
15:25 Yahweh will uproot the house of the proud, but he will keep the widow's borders intact. 25 The LORD will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow. 25 主は高ぶる者の家を滅ぼし、やもめの地境を定められる。
15:26 Yahweh detests the thoughts of the wicked, but the thoughts of the pure are pleasing. 26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD: but the words of the pure are pleasant words. 26 悪人の計りごとは主に憎まれ、潔白な人の言葉は彼に喜ばれる。
15:27 He who is greedy for gain troubles his own house, but he who hates bribes will live. 27 He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live. 27 不正な利をむさぼる者はその家を煩わせる、まいないを憎む者は生きながらえる。
15:28 The heart of the righteous weighs answers, but the mouth of the wicked gushes out evil. 28 The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things. 28 正しい者の心は答えるべきことを考える、悪しき者の口は悪を吐き出す。

15:30 The light of the eyes rejoices the heart. Good news gives health to the bones. 30 The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat. 30 目の光は心を喜ばせ、よい知らせは骨を潤す。
15:31 The ear that listens to reproof lives, and will be at home among the wise. 31 The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise. 31 ためになる戒めを聞く耳をもつ者は、知恵ある者の中にとどまる。
15:32 He who refuses correction despises his own soul, but he who listens to reproof gets understanding. 32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding. 32 教訓を捨てる者はおのれの命を軽んじ、戒めを重んじる者は悟りを得る。
15:33 The fear of Yahweh teaches wisdom. Before honor is humility. 33 The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility. 33 主を恐れることは知恵の教訓である、謙遜は、栄誉に先だつ。

16:1 The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from Yahweh. 1 The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD. 1 心にはかることは人に属し、舌の答は主から出る。
16:2 All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but Yahweh weighs the motives. 2 All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits. 2 人の道は自分の目にことごとく潔しと見える、しかし主は人の魂をはかられる。
16:3 Commit your deeds to Yahweh, and your plans shall succeed. 3 Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established. 3 あなたのなすべき事を主にゆだねよ、そうすれば、あなたの計るところは必ず成る。
16:4 Yahweh has made everything for its own end-- yes, even the wicked for the day of evil. 4 The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil. 4 主はすべての物をおのおのその用のために造り、悪しき人をも災の日のために造られた。
16:5 Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to Yahweh: they shall certainly not be unpunished. 5 Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished. 5 すべて心に高ぶる者は主に憎まれる、確かに、彼は罰を免れない。

16:8 Better is a little with righteousness, than great revenues with injustice. 8 Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right. 8 正義によって得たわずかなものは、不義によって得た多くの宝にまさる。
16:9 A man's heart plans his course, but Yahweh directs his steps. 9 A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps. 9 人は心に自分の道を考え計る、しかし、その歩みを導く者は主である。
16:10 Inspired judgments are on the lips of the king. He shall not betray his mouth. 10 A divine sentence is in the lips of the king: his mouth transgresseth not in judgment. 10 王のくちびるには神の決定がある、さばきをするとき、その口に誤りがない。
16:11 Honest balances and scales are Yahweh's; all the weights in the bag are his work. 11 A just weight and balance are the LORD's: all the weights of the bag are his work. 11 正しいはかりと天びんとは主のものである、袋にあるふんどうもすべて彼の造られたものである。
16:12 It is an abomination for kings to do wrong, for the throne is established by righteousness. 12 It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness. 12 悪を行うことは王の憎むところである、その位が正義によって堅く立っているからである。
16:13 Righteous lips are the delight of kings. They value one who speaks the truth. 13 Righteous lips are the delight of kings; and they love him that speaketh right. 13 正しいくちびるは王に喜ばれる、彼は正しい事を言う者を愛する。
16:14 The king's wrath is a messenger of death, but a wise man will pacify it. 14 The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it. 14 王の怒りは死の使者である、知恵ある人はこれをなだめる。
16:15 In the light of the king's face is life. His favor is like a cloud of the spring rain. 15 In the light of the king's countenance is life; and his favour is as a cloud of the latter rain. 15 王の顔の光には命がある、彼の恵みは春雨をもたらす雲のようだ。
16:16 How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! Yes, to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver. 16 How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver! 16 知恵を得るのは金を得るのにまさる、悟りを得るのは銀を得るよりも望ましい。

16:20 He who heeds the Word finds prosperity. Whoever trusts in Yahweh is blessed. 20 He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy is he. 20 慎んで、み言葉をおこなう者は栄える、主に寄り頼む者はさいわいである。
16:21 The wise in heart shall be called prudent. Pleasantness of the lips promotes instruction. 21 The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning. 21 心に知恵ある者はさとき者ととなえられる、くちびるが甘ければ、その教に人を説きつける力を増す。

17:2 A servant who deals wisely will rule over a son who causes shame, and shall have a part in the inheritance among the brothers. 2 A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren. 2 賢いしもべは身持の悪いむすこを治め、かつ、その兄弟たちの中にあって、資産の分け前を獲る。

17:15 He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the righteous, both of them alike are an abomination to Yahweh. 15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD. 15 悪しき者を正しいとする者、正しい者を悪いとする者、この二つの者はともに主に憎まれる。
17:16 Why is there money in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, since he has no understanding? 16 Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he hath no heart to it? 16 愚かな者はすでに心がないのに、どうして知恵を買おうとして手にその代金を持っているのか。
17:17 A friend loves at all times; and a brother is born for adversity. 17 A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. 17 友はいずれの時にも愛する、兄弟はなやみの時のために生れる。
17:18 A man void of understanding strikes hands, and becomes collateral in the presence of his neighbor. 18 A man void of understanding striketh hands, and becometh surety in the presence of his friend. 18 知恵のない人は手をうって、その隣り人の前で保証をする。
17:19 He who loves disobedience loves strife. One who builds a high gate seeks destruction. 19 He loveth transgression that loveth strife: and he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction. 19 争いを好む者は罪を好む、その門を高くする者は滅びを求める。
17:20 One who has a perverse heart doesn't find prosperity, and one who has a deceitful tongue falls into trouble. 20 He that hath a froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief. 20 曲った心の者はさいわいを得ない、みだりに舌をもって語る者は災に陥る。
17:21 He who becomes the father of a fool grieves. The father of a fool has no joy. 21 He that begetteth a fool doeth it to his sorrow: and the father of a fool hath no joy. 21 愚かな子を生む者は嘆きを得る、愚か者の父は喜びを得ない。
17:22 A cheerful heart makes good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. 22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones. 22 心の楽しみは良い薬である、たましいの憂いは骨を枯らす。
17:23 A wicked man receives a bribe in secret, to pervert the ways of justice. 23 A wicked man taketh a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment. 23 悪しき者は人のふところからまいないを受けて、さばきの道をまげる。
17:24 Wisdom is before the face of one who has understanding, but the eyes of a fool wander to the ends of the earth. 24 Wisdom is before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth. 24 さとき者はその顔を知恵にむける、しかし、愚かな者は目を地の果にそそぐ。
17:25 A foolish son brings grief to his father, and bitterness to her who bore him. 25 A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him. 25 愚かな子はその父の憂いである、またこれを産んだ母の痛みである。
17:26 Also to punish the righteous is not good, nor to flog officials for their integrity. 26 Also to punish the just is not good, nor to strike princes for equity. 26 正しい人を罰するのはよくない、尊い人を打つのは悪い。
17:27 He who spares his words has knowledge. He who is even tempered is a man of understanding. 27 He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit. 27 言葉を少なくする者は知識のある者、心の冷静な人はさとき人である。

18:1 An unfriendly man pursues selfishness, and defies all sound judgment. 1 Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom. 1 人と交わりをしない者は口実を捜し、すべてのよい考えに激しく反対する。
18:2 A fool has no delight in understanding, but only in revealing his own opinion. 2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself. 2 愚かな者は悟ることを喜ばず、ただ自分の意見を言い表わすことを喜ぶ。
18:3 When wickedness comes, contempt also comes, and with shame comes disgrace. 3 When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach. 3 悪しき者が来ると、卑しめもまた来る、不名誉が来ると、はずかしめも共にくる。
18:4 The words of a man's mouth are like deep waters. The fountain of wisdom is like a flowing brook. 4 The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook. 4 人の口の言葉は深い水のようだ、知恵の泉は、わいて流れる川である。
18:5 To be partial to the faces of the wicked is not good, nor to deprive the innocent of justice. 5 It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment. 5 悪しき者をえこひいきすることは良くない、正しい者をさばいて、悪しき者とすることも良くない。
18:6 A fool's lips come into strife, and his mouth invites beatings. 6 A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes. 6 愚かな者のくちびるは争いを起し、その口はむち打たれることを招く。
18:7 A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are a snare to his soul. 7 A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul. 7 愚かな者の口は自分の滅びとなり、そのくちびるは自分を捕えるわなとなる。
18:8 The words of a gossip are like dainty morsels: they go down into a person's innermost parts. 8 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly. 8 人のよしあしをいう者の言葉はおいしい食物のようで、腹の奥にしみこむ。
18:9 One who is slack in his work is brother to him who is a master of destruction. 9 He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster. 9 その仕事を怠る者は、滅ぼす者の兄弟である。
18:10 The name of Yahweh is a strong tower: the righteous run to him, and are safe. 10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe. 10 主の名は堅固なやぐらのようだ、正しい者はその中に走りこんで救を得る。
18:11 The rich man's wealth is his strong city, like an unscalable wall in his own imagination. 11 The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit. 11 富める者の富はその堅き城である、それは高き城壁のように彼を守る。
18:12 Before destruction the heart of man is proud, but before honor is humility. 12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility. 12 人の心の高ぶりは滅びにさきだち、謙遜は栄誉にさきだつ。
18:13 He who gives answer before he hears, that is folly and shame to him. 13 He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him. 13 事をよく聞かないで答える者は、愚かであって恥をこうむる。
18:14 A man's spirit will sustain him in sickness, but a crushed spirit, who can bear? 14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear? 14 人の心は病苦をも忍ぶ、しかし心の痛むときは、だれがそれに耐えようか。
18:15 The heart of the discerning gets knowledge. The ear of the wise seeks knowledge. 15 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge. 15 さとき者の心は知識を得、知恵ある者の耳は知識を求める。
18:16 A man's gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men. 16 A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men. 16 人の贈り物は、その人のために道をひらき、また尊い人の前に彼を導く。
18:17 He who pleads his cause first seems right; until another comes and questions him. 17 He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him. 17 先に訴え出る者は正しいように見える、しかしその訴えられた人が来て、それを調べて、事は明らかになる。
18:18 The lot settles disputes, and keeps strong ones apart. 18 The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty. 18 くじは争いをとどめ、かつ強い争い相手の間を決定する。
18:19 A brother offended is more difficult than a fortified city; and disputes are like the bars of a castle. 19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle. 19 助けあう兄弟は堅固な城のようだ、しかし争いは、やぐらの貫の木のようだ。
18:20 A man's stomach is filled with the fruit of his mouth. With the harvest of his lips he is satisfied. 20 A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. 20 人は自分の言葉の結ぶ実によって、満ち足り、そのくちびるの産物によって自ら飽きる。
18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue; those who love it will eat its fruit. 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. 21 死と生とは舌に支配される、これを愛する者はその実を食べる。
18:22 Whoever finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor of Yahweh. 22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD. 22 妻を得る者は、良き物を得る、かつ主から恵みを与えられる。
18:23 The poor plead for mercy, but the rich answer harshly. 23 The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly. 23 貧しい者は、あわれみを請い、富める者は、はげしい答をする。
18:24 A man of many companions may be ruined, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. 24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. 24 世には友らしい見せかけの友がある、しかし兄弟よりもたのもしい友もある。

19:1 Better is the poor who walks in his integrity than he who is perverse in his lips and is a fool. 1 Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool. 1 正しく歩む貧しい者は、曲ったことを言う愚かな者にまさる。
19:2 It isn't good to have zeal without knowledge; nor being hasty with one's feet and missing the way. 2 Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth. 2 人が知識のないのは良くない、足で急ぐ者は道に迷う。
19:3 The foolishness of man subverts his way; his heart rages against Yahweh. 3 The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the LORD. 3 人は自分の愚かさによって道につまずき、かえって心のうちに主をうらむ。
19:4 Wealth adds many friends, but the poor is separated from his friend. 4 Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour. 4 富は多くの新しい友を作る、しかし貧しい人はその友に捨てられる。
19:5 A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who pours out lies shall not go free. 5 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape. 5 偽りの証人は罰を免れない、偽りをいう者はのがれることができない。
19:6 Many will entreat the favor of a ruler, and everyone is a friend to a man who gives gifts. 6 Many will intreat the favour of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts. 6 気前のよい人にこびる者は多い、人はみな贈り物をする人の友となる。
19:7 All the relatives of the poor shun him: how much more do his friends avoid him! He pursues them with pleas, but they are gone. 7 All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him. 7 貧しい者はその兄弟すらもみなこれを憎む、ましてその友はこれに遠ざからないであろうか。言葉をかけてこれを呼んでも、去って帰らないのである。
19:8 He who gets wisdom loves his own soul. He who keeps understanding shall find good. 8 He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good. 8 知恵を得る者は自分の魂を愛し、悟りを保つ者は幸を得る。
19:9 A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who utters lies shall perish. 9 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish. 9 偽りの証人は罰を免れない、偽りをいう者は滅びる。
19:10 Delicate living is not appropriate for a fool, much less for a servant to have rule over princes. 10 Delight is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes. 10 愚かな者が、ぜいたくな暮しをするのは、ふさわしいことではない、しもべたる者が、君たる者を治めるなどは、なおさらである。
19:11 The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger. It is his glory to overlook an offense. 11 The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression. 11 悟りは人に怒りを忍ばせる、あやまちをゆるすのは人の誉である。
19:12 The king's wrath is like the roaring of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass. 12 The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass. 12 王の怒りは、ししのほえるようであり、その恵みは草の上におく露のようである。
19:13 A foolish son is the calamity of his father. A wife's quarrels are a continual dripping. 13 A foolish son is the calamity of his father: and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping. 13 愚かな子はその父の災である、妻の争うのは、雨漏りの絶えないのとひとしい。
19:14 House and riches are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is from Yahweh. 14 House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the LORD. 14 家と富とは先祖からうけつぐもの、賢い妻は主から賜わるものである。
19:15 Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep. The idle soul shall suffer hunger. 15 Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger. 15 怠りは人を熟睡させる、なまけ者は飢える。
19:16 He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul, but he who is contemptuous in his ways shall die. 16 He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die. 16 戒めを守る者は自分の魂を守る、み言葉を軽んじる者は死ぬ。
19:17 He who has pity on the poor lends to Yahweh; he will reward him. 17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again. 17 貧しい者をあわれむ者は主に貸すのだ、その施しは主が償われる。
19:18 Discipline your son, for there is hope; don't be a willing party to his death. 18 Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying. 18 望みのあるうちに、自分の子を懲らせ、これを滅ぼす心を起してはならない。
19:19 A hot-tempered man must pay the penalty, for if you rescue him, you must do it again. 19 A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again. 19 怒ることの激しい者は罰をうける、たとい彼を救ってやっても、さらにくり返さねばならない。
19:20 Listen to counsel and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter end. 20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end. 20 勧めを聞き、教訓をうけよ、そうすれば、ついには知恵ある者となる。
19:21 There are many plans in a man's heart, but Yahweh's counsel will prevail. 21 There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand. 21 人の心には多くの計画がある、しかしただ主の、み旨だけが堅く立つ。
19:22 That which makes a man to be desired is his kindness. A poor man is better than a liar. 22 The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar. 22 人に望ましいのは、いつくしみ深いことである、貧しい人は偽りをいう人にまさる。
19:23 The fear of Yahweh leads to life, then contentment; he rests and will not be touched by trouble. 23 The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil. 23 主を恐れることは人を命に至らせ、常に飽き足りて、災にあうことはない。
19:24 The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; he will not so much as bring it to his mouth again. 24 A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again. 24 なまけ者は、手を皿に入れても、それを口に持ってゆくことをしない。
19:25 Flog a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; rebuke one who has understanding, and he will gain knowledge. 25 Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge. 25 あざける者を打て、そうすれば思慮のない者も慎む。さとき者を戒めよ、そうすれば彼は知識を得る。
19:26 He who robs his father and drives away his mother, is a son who causes shame and brings reproach. 26 He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach. 26 父に乱暴をはたらき、母を追い出す者は、恥をきたらし、はずかしめをまねく子である。
19:27 If you stop listening to instruction, my son, you will stray from the words of knowledge. 27 Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge. 27 わが子よ、知識の言葉をはなれて人を迷わせる教訓を聞くことをやめよ。
19:28 A corrupt witness mocks justice, and the mouth of the wicked gulps down iniquity. 28 An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity. 28 悪い証人はさばきをあざけり、悪しき者の口は悪をむさぼり食う。
19:29 Penalties are prepared for scoffers, and beatings for the backs of fools. 29 Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools. 29 さばきはあざける者のために備えられ、むちは愚かな者の背のために備えられる。

20:1 Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise. 1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise. 1 酒は人をあざける者とし、濃い酒は人をあばれ者とする、これに迷わされる者は無知である。
20:2 The terror of a king is like the roaring of a lion. He who provokes him to anger forfeits his own life. 2 The fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion: whoso provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul. 2 王の怒りは、ししがほえるようだ、彼を怒らせる者は自分の命をそこなう。
20:3 It is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife; but every fool will be quarreling. 3 It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling. 3 争いに関係しないことは人の誉である、すべて愚かな者は怒り争う。
20:4 The sluggard will not plow by reason of the winter; therefore he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing. 4 The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing. 4 なまけ者は寒いときに耕さない、それゆえ刈入れのときになって、求めても何もない。
20:5 Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out. 5 Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out. 5 人の心にある計りごとは深い井戸の水のようだ、しかし、さとき人はこれをくみ出す。
20:6 Many men claim to be men of unfailing love, but who can find a faithful man? 6 Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find? 6 自分は真実だという人が多い、しかし、だれが忠信な人に会うであろうか。
20:7 A righteous man walks in integrity. Blessed are his children after him. 7 The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him. 7 欠けた所なく、正しく歩む人―その後の子孫はさいわいである。
20:8 A king who sits on the throne of judgment scatters away all evil with his eyes. 8 A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes. 8 さばきの座にすわる王はその目をもって、すべての悪をふるいわける。
20:9 Who can say, "I have made my heart pure. I am clean and without sin?" 9 Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin? 9 だれが「わたしは自分の心を清めた、わたしの罪は清められた」ということができようか。
20:10 Differing weights and differing measures, both of them alike are an abomination to Yahweh. 10 Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to the LORD. 10 互に違った二種のはかり、二種のますは、ひとしく主に憎まれる。
20:11 Even a child makes himself known by his doings, whether his work is pure, and whether it is right. 11 Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right. 11 幼な子でさえも、その行いによって自らを示し、そのすることの清いか正しいかを現す。
20:12 The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, Yahweh has made even both of them. 12 The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them. 12 聞く耳と、見る目とは、ともに主が造られたものである。
20:13 Don't love sleep, lest you come to poverty. Open your eyes, and you shall be satisfied with bread. 13 Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread. 13 眠りを愛してはならない、そうすれば貧しくなる、目を開け、そうすればパンに飽くことができる。
20:14 "It's no good, it's no good," says the buyer; but when he is gone his way, then he boasts. 14 It is naught, it is naught, saith the buyer: but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth. 14 買う者は、「悪い、悪い」という、しかし去って後、彼は自ら誇る。
20:15 There is gold and abundance of rubies; but the lips of knowledge are a rare jewel. 15 There is gold, and a multitude of rubies: but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel. 15 金もあり、価の高い宝石も多くあるが、尊い器は知識のくちびるである。
20:16 Take the garment of one who puts up collateral for a stranger; and hold him in pledge for a wayward woman. 16 Take his garment that is surety for a stranger: and take a pledge of him for a strange woman. 16 人のために保証する者からは、まずその着物を取れ、他人のために保証する者をば抵当に取れ。
20:17 Fraudulent food is sweet to a man, but afterwards his mouth is filled with gravel. 17 Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel. 17 欺き取ったパンはおいしい、しかし後にはその口は砂利で満たされる。
20:18 Plans are established by advice; by wise guidance you wage war! 18 Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war. 18 計りごとは共に議することによって成る、戦おうとするならば、まずよく議しなければならない。
20:19 He who goes about as a tale-bearer reveals secrets; therefore don't keep company with him who opens wide his lips. 19 He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips. 19 歩きまわって人のよしあしをいう者は秘密をもらす、くちびるを開いて歩く者と交わってはならない。
20:20 Whoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in blackness of darkness. 20 Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness. 20 自分の父母をののしる者は、そのともしびは暗やみの中に消える。
20:21 An inheritance quickly gained at the beginning, won't be blessed in the end. 21 An inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning; but the end thereof shall not be blessed. 21 初めに急いで得た資産は、その終りがさいわいでない。
20:22 Don't say, "I will pay back evil." Wait for Yahweh, and he will save you. 22 Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee. 22 「わたしが悪に報いる」と言ってはならない、主を待ち望め、主はあなたを助けられる。
20:23 Yahweh detests differing weights, and dishonest scales are not pleasing. 23 Divers weights are an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance is not good. 23 互に違った二種のふんどうは主に憎まれる、偽りのはかりは良くない。
20:24 A man's steps are from Yahweh; how then can man understand his way? 24 Man's goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way? 24 人の歩みは主によって定められる、人はどうして自らその道を、明らかにすることができようか。
20:25 It is a snare to a man to make a rash dedication, then later to consider his vows. 25 It is a snare to the man who devoureth that which is holy, and after vows to make enquiry. 25 軽々しく「これは聖なるささげ物だ」と言い、また誓いを立てて後に考えることは、その人のわなとなる。
20:26 A wise king winnows out the wicked, and drives the threshing wheel over them. 26 A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them. 26 知恵ある王は、箕をもってあおぎ分けるように悪人を散らし、車をもって脱穀するように、これを罰する。
20:27 The spirit of man is Yahweh's lamp, searching all his innermost parts. 27 The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly. 27 人の魂は主のともしびであり、人の心の奥を探る。
20:28 Love and faithfulness keep the king safe. His throne is sustained by love. 28 Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upholden by mercy. 28 いつくしみと、まこととは王を守る、その位もまた正義によって保たれる。
20:29 The glory of young men is their strength. The splendor of old men is their gray hair. 29 The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the grey head. 29 若い人の栄えはその力、老人の美しさはそのしらがである。

21:1 The king's heart is in Yahweh's hand like the watercourses. He turns it wherever he desires. 1 The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will. 1 王の心は、主の手のうちにあって、水の流れのようだ、主はみこころのままにこれを導かれる。
21:2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but Yahweh weighs the hearts. 2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts. 2 人の道は自分の目には正しく見える、しかし主は人の心をはかられる。
21:3 To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to Yahweh than sacrifice. 3 To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice. 3 正義と公平を行うことは、犠牲にもまさって主に喜ばれる。
21:4 A high look, and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, is sin. 4 An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin. 4 高ぶる目とおごる心とは、悪しき人のともしびであって、罪である。
21:5 The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit; and everyone who is hasty surely rushes to poverty. 5 The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want. 5 勤勉な人の計画は、ついにその人を豊かにする、すべて怠るものは貧しくなる。
21:6 Getting treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor for those who seek death. 6 The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death. 6 偽りの舌をもって宝を得るのは、吹きはらわれる煙、死のわなである。
21:7 The violence of the wicked will drive them away, because they refuse to do what is right. 7 The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them; because they refuse to do judgment. 7 悪しき者の暴虐はその身を滅ぼす、彼らは公平を行うことを好まないからである。
21:8 The way of the guilty is devious, but the conduct of the innocent is upright. 8 The way of man is froward and strange: but as for the pure, his work is right. 8 罪びとの道は曲っている、潔白な人の行いはまっすぐである。
21:9 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than to share a house with a contentious woman. 9 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house. 9 争いを好む女と一緒に家におるよりは屋根のすみにおるほうがよい。
21:10 The soul of the wicked desires evil; his neighbor finds no mercy in his eyes. 10 The soul of the wicked desireth evil: his neighbour findeth no favour in his eyes. 10 悪しき者の魂は悪を行うことを願う、その隣り人にも好意をもって見られない。
21:11 When the mocker is punished, the simple gains wisdom. When the wise is instructed, he receives knowledge. 11 When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge. 11 あざけるものが罰をうけるならば、思慮のない者は知恵を得る。知恵ある者が教をうけるならば知識を得る。
21:12 The Righteous One considers the house of the wicked, and brings the wicked to ruin. 12 The righteous man wisely considereth the house of the wicked: but God overthroweth the wicked for their wickedness. 12 正しい神は、悪しき者の家をみとめて、悪しき者を滅びに投げいれられる。
21:13 Whoever stops his ears at the cry of the poor, he will also cry out, but shall not be heard. 13 Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard. 13 耳を閉じて貧しい者の呼ぶ声を聞かない者は、自分が呼ぶときに、聞かれない。
21:14 A gift in secret pacifies anger; and a bribe in the cloak, strong wrath. 14 A gift in secret pacifieth anger: and a reward in the bosom strong wrath. 14 ひそかな贈り物は憤りをなだめる、ふところのまいないは激しい怒りを和らげる。
21:15 It is joy to the righteous to do justice; but it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity. 15 It is joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity. 15 公義を行うことは、正しい者には喜びであるが、悪を行う者には滅びである。
21:16 The man who wanders out of the way of understanding shall rest in the assembly of the dead. 16 The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead. 16 悟りの道を離れる人は、死人の集会の中におる。
21:17 He who loves pleasure shall be a poor man. He who loves wine and oil shall not be rich. 17 He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich. 17 快楽を好む者は貧しい人となり、酒と油とを好む者は富むことがない。
21:18 The wicked is a ransom for the righteous; the treacherous for the upright. 18 The wicked shall be a ransom for the righteous, and the transgressor for the upright. 18 悪しき者は正しい者のあがないとなり、不信実な者は正しい人に代る。
21:19 It is better to dwell in a desert land, than with a contentious and fretful woman. 19 It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman. 19 争い怒る女と共におるよりは、荒野に住むほうがましだ。
21:20 There is precious treasure and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man swallows it up. 20 There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up. 20 知恵ある者の家には尊い宝があり、愚かな人はこれを、のみ尽す。
21:21 He who follows after righteousness and kindness finds life, righteousness, and honor. 21 He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour. 21 正義といつくしみとを追い求める者は、命と誉とを得る。
21:22 A wise man scales the city of the mighty, and brings down the strength of its confidence. 22 A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength of the confidence thereof. 22 知恵ある者は強い者の城にのぼって、その頼みとするとりでをくずす。
21:23 Whoever guards his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles. 23 Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles. 23 口と舌とを守る者はその魂を守って、悩みにあわせない。
21:24 The proud and haughty man, "scoffer" is his name; he works in the arrogance of pride. 24 Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who dealeth in proud wrath. 24 高ぶりおごる者を「あざける者」となづける、彼は高慢無礼な行いをするものである。
21:25 The desire of the sluggard kills him, for his hands refuse to labor. 25 The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour. 25 なまけ者の欲望は自分の身を殺す、これはその手を働かせないからである。
21:26 There are those who covet greedily all day long; but the righteous give and don't withhold. 26 He coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and spareth not. 26 悪しき者はひねもす人の物をむさぼる、正しい者は与えて惜しまない。
21:27 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination: how much more, when he brings it with a wicked mind! 27 The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind? 27 悪しき者の供え物は憎まれる、悪意をもってささげる時はなおさらである。
21:28 A false witness will perish, and a man who listens speaks to eternity. 28 A false witness shall perish: but the man that heareth speaketh constantly. 28 偽りの証人は滅ぼされる、よく聞く人の言葉はすたることがない。
21:29 A wicked man hardens his face; but as for the upright, he establishes his ways. 29 A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, he directeth his way. 29 悪しき者はあつかましくし、正しい人はその道をつつしむ。
21:30 There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against Yahweh. 30 There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD. 30 主に向かっては知恵も悟りも、計りごとも、なんの役にも立たない。
21:31 The horse is prepared for the day of battle; but victory is with Yahweh. 31 The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD. 31 戦いの日のために馬を備える、しかし勝利は主による。

22:1 A good name is more desirable than great riches, and loving favor is better than silver and gold. 1 A GOOD name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold. 1 令名は大いなる富にまさり、恩恵は銀や金よりも良い。
22:2 The rich and the poor have this in common: Yahweh is the maker of them all. 2 The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all. 2 富める者と貧しい者とは共に世におる、すべてこれを造られたのは主である。
22:3 A prudent man sees danger, and hides himself; but the simple pass on, and suffer for it. 3 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished. 3 賢い者は災を見て自ら避け、思慮のない者は進んでいって、罰をうける。
22:4 The result of humility and the fear of Yahweh is wealth, honor, and life. 4 By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life. 4 謙遜と主を恐れることとの報いは、富と誉と命とである。
22:5 Thorns and snares are in the path of the wicked: whoever guards his soul stays from them. 5 Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them. 5 よこしまな者の道にはいばらとわながあり、たましいを守る者は遠くこれを離れる。
22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. 6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. 6 子をその行くべき道に従って教えよ、そうすれば年老いても、それを離れることがない。
22:7 The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender. 7 The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender. 7 富める者は貧しき者を治め、借りる者は貸す人の奴隷となる。
22:8 He who sows wickedness reaps trouble, and the rod of his fury will be destroyed. 8 He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail. 8 悪をまく者は災を刈り、その怒りのつえはすたれる。
22:9 He who has a generous eye will be blessed; for he shares his food with the poor. 9 He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor. 9 人を見て恵む者はめぐまれる、自分のパンを貧しい人に与えるからである。
22:10 Drive out the mocker, and strife will go out; yes, quarrels and insults will stop. 10 Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease. 10 あざける者を追放すれば争いもまた去り、かつ、いさかいも、はずかしめもなくなる。
22:11 He who loves purity of heart and speaks gracefully is the king's friend. 11 He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend. 11 心の潔白を愛する者、その言葉の上品な者は、王がその友となる。
22:12 The eyes of Yahweh watch over knowledge; but he frustrates the words of the unfaithful. 12 The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor. 12 主の目は知識ある者を守る、しかし主は不信実な者の言葉を敗られる。
22:13 The sluggard says, "There is a lion outside! I will be killed in the streets!" 13 The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets. 13 なまけ者は言う、「ししがそとにいる、わたしは、ちまたで殺される」と。
22:14 The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit: he who is under Yahweh's wrath will fall into it. 14 The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein. 14 遊女の口は深い落し穴である、主に憎まれる者はその中に陥る。
22:15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child: the rod of discipline drives it far from him. 15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him. 15 愚かなことが子供の心の中につながれている、懲らしめのむちは、これを遠く追いだす。
22:16 Whoever oppresses the poor for his own increase and whoever gives to the rich, both come to poverty. 16 He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want. 16 貧しい者をしえたげて自分の富を増そうとする者と、富める者に与える者とは、ついに必ず貧しくなる。
22:17 Turn your ear, and listen to the words of the wise. Apply your heart to my teaching. 17 Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge. 17 あなたの耳を傾けて知恵ある者の言葉を聞き、かつ、わたしの知識にあなたの心を用いよ。
22:18 For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you, if all of them are ready on your lips. 18 For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips. 18 これをあなたのうちに保ち、ことごとく、あなたのくちびるに備えておくなら、楽しいことである。
22:19 That your trust may be in Yahweh, I teach you today, even you. 19 That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee. 19 あなたが主に、寄り頼むことのできるように、わたしはきょう、これをあなたにも教える。
22:20 Haven't I written to you thirty excellent things of counsel and knowledge, 20 Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge, 20 わたしは、勧めと知識との三十の言葉をあなたのためにしるしたではないか。
22:21 To teach you truth, reliable words, to give sound answers to the ones who sent you? 21 That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee? 21 それは正しいこと、真実なことをあなたに示し、あなたをつかわした者に真実の答をさせるためであった。
22:22 Don't exploit the poor, because he is poor; and don't crush the needy in court; 22 Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate: 22 貧しい者を、貧しいゆえに、かすめてはならない、悩む者を、町の門でおさえつけてはならない。
22:23 for Yahweh will plead their case, and plunder the life of those who plunder them. 23 For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them. 23 それは主が彼らの訴えをただし、かつ彼らをそこなう者の命を、そこなわれるからである。
22:24 Don't befriend a hot-tempered man, and don't associate with one who harbors anger: 24 Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go: 24 怒る者と交わるな、憤る人と共に行くな。
22:25 lest you learn his ways, and ensnare your soul. 25 Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul. 25 それはあなたがその道にならって、みずから、わなに陥ることのないためである。
22:26 Don't you be one of those who strike hands, of those who are collateral for debts. 26 Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts. 26 あなたは人と手を打つ者となってはならない、人の負債の保証をしてはならない。
22:27 If you don't have means to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you? 27 If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee? 27 あなたが償うものがないとき、あなたの寝ている寝床までも、人が奪い取ってよかろうか。
22:28 Don't move the ancient boundary stone, which your fathers have set up. 28 Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set. 28 あなたの先祖が立てた古い地境を移してはならない。
22:29 Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve kings. He won't serve obscure men. 29 Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men. 29 あなたはそのわざに巧みな人を見るか、そのような人は王の前に立つが、卑しい人々の前には立たない。

23:1 When you sit to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before you; 1 When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee: 1 治める人と共に座して食事するとき、あなたの前にあるものを、よくわきまえ、
23:2 put a knife to your throat, if you are a man given to appetite. 2 And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite. 2 あなたがもし食をたしなむ者であるならば、あなたののどに刀をあてよ。
23:3 Don't be desirous of his dainties, since they are deceitful food. 3 Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat. 3 そのごちそうをむさぼり食べてはならない、これは人を欺く食物だからである。
23:4 Don't weary yourself to be rich. In your wisdom, show restraint. 4 Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom. 4 富を得ようと苦労してはならない、かしこく思いとどまるがよい。
23:5 Why do you set your eyes on that which is not? For it certainly sprouts wings like an eagle and flies in the sky. 5 Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven. 5 あなたの目をそれにとめると、それはない、富はたちまち自ら翼を生じて、わしのように天に飛び去るからだ。
23:6 Don't eat the food of him who has a stingy eye, and don't crave his delicacies: 6 Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats: 6 物惜しみする人のパンを食べてはならない、そのごちそうをむさぼり願ってはならない。
23:7 for as he thinks about the cost, so he is. "Eat and drink!" he says to you,but his heart is not with you. 7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee. 7 彼は心のうちで勘定する人のように、「食え、飲め」とあなたに言うけれども、その心はあなたに真実ではない。
23:8 The morsel which you have eaten you shall vomit up, and lose your good words. 8 The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words. 8 あなたはついにその食べた物を吐き出すようになり、あなたのねんごろな言葉もむだになる。
23:9 Don't speak in the ears of a fool, for he will despise the wisdom of your words. 9 Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words. 9 愚かな者の耳に語ってはならない、彼はあなたの言葉が示す知恵をいやしめるからだ。
23:10 Don't move the ancient boundary stone. Don't encroach on the fields of the fatherless: 10 Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless: 10 古い地境を移してはならない、みなしごの畑を侵してはならない。
23:11 for their Defender is strong. He will plead their case against you. 11 For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with thee. 11 彼らのあがない主は強くいらせられ、あなたに逆らって彼らの訴えを弁護されるからだ。
23:12 Apply your heart to instruction, and your ears to the words of knowledge. 12 Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge. 12 あなたの心を教訓に用い、あなたの耳を知識の言葉に傾けよ。
23:13 Don't withhold correction from a child. If you punish him with the rod, he will not die. 13 Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. 13 子を懲らすことを、さし控えてはならない、むちで彼を打っても死ぬことはない。
23:14 Punish him with the rod, and save his soul from Sheol*9. 14 Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell. 14 もし、むちで彼を打つならば、その命を陰府から救うことができる。
23:15 My son, if your heart is wise, then my heart will be glad, even mine: 15 My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine. 15 わが子よ、もしあなたの心が賢くあれば、わたしの心もまた喜び、
23:16 yes, my heart will rejoice, when your lips speak what is right. 16 Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things. 16 もしあなたのくちびるが正しい事を言うならば、わたしの心も喜ぶ。
23:17 Don't let your heart envy sinners; but rather fear Yahweh all the day long. 17 Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long. 17 心に罪びとをうらやんではならない、ただ、ひねもす主を恐れよ。
23:18 Indeed surely there is a future hope, and your hope will not be cut off. 18 For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off. 18 かならず後のよい報いがあって、あなたの望みは、すたらない。
23:19 Listen, my son, and be wise, and keep your heart on the right path! 19 Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way. 19 わが子よ、よく聞いて、知恵を得よ、かつ、あなたの心を道に向けよ。
23:20 Don't be among ones drinking too much wine, or those who gorge themselves on meat: 20 Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh: 20 酒にふけり、肉をたしなむ者と交わってはならない。
23:21 for the drunkard and the glutton shall become poor; and drowsiness clothes them in rags. 21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags. 21 酒にふける者と、肉をたしなむ者とは貧しくなり、眠りをむさぼる者は、ぼろを身にまとうようになる。
23:22 Listen to your father who gave you life, and don't despise your mother when she is old. 22 Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old. 22 あなたを生んだ父のいうことを聞き、年老いた母を軽んじてはならない。
23:23 Buy the truth, and don't sell it. Get wisdom, discipline, and understanding. 23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding. 23 真理を買え、これを売ってはならない、知恵と教訓と悟りをも買え。
23:24 The father of the righteous has great joy. Whoever fathers a wise child delights in him. 24 The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him. 24 正しい人の父は大いによろこび、知恵ある子を生む者は子のために楽しむ。
23:25 Let your father and your mother be glad! Let her who bore you rejoice! 25 Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice. 25 あなたの父母を楽しませ、あなたを産んだ母を喜ばせよ。
23:26 My son, give me your heart; and let your eyes keep in my ways. 26 My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways. 26 わが子よ、あなたの心をわたしに与え、あなたの目をわたしの道に注げ。
23:27 For a prostitute is a deep pit; and a wayward wife is a narrow well. 27 For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit. 27 遊女は深い穴のごとく、みだらな女は狭い井戸のようだ。
23:28 Yes, she lies in wait like a robber, and increases the unfaithful among men. 28 She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men. 28 彼女は盗びとのように人をうかがい、かつ世の人のうちに、不信実な者を多くする。
23:29 Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes? 29 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? 29 災ある者はだれか、憂いある者はだれか、争いをする者はだれか、煩いある者はだれか、ゆえなく傷をうける者はだれか、赤い目をしている者はだれか。
23:30 Those who stay long at the wine; those who go to seek out mixed wine. 30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. 30 酒に夜をふかす者、行って、混ぜ合わせた酒を味わう者である。
23:31 Don't look at the wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly. 31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. 31 酒はあかく、杯の中にあわだち、なめらかにくだる、あなたはこれを見てはならない。
23:32 In the end, it bites like a snake, and poisons like a viper. 32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder. 32 これはついに、へびのようにかみ、まむしのように刺す。
23:33 Your eyes will see strange things, and your mind will imagine confusing things. 33 Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things. 33 あなたの目は怪しいものを見、あなたの心は偽りを言う。
23:34 Yes, you will be as he who lies down in the midst of the sea, or as he who lies on top of the rigging: 34 Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast. 34 あなたは海の中に寝ている人のように、帆柱の上に寝ている人のようになる。
23:35 "They hit me, and I was not hurt! They beat me, and I don't feel it! When will I wake up? I can do it again. I can find another." 35 They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? 24:1 Don't be envious of evil men; neither desire to be with them: 1 Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them. 1 悪を行う人をうらやんではならない、また彼らと共におることを願ってはならない。
24:2 for their hearts plot violence, and their lips talk about mischief. 2 For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief. 2 彼らはその心に強奪を計り、そのくちびるに人をそこなうことを語るからである。
24:3 Through wisdom a house is built; by understanding it is established; 3 Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established: 3 家は知恵によって建てられ、悟りによって堅くせられ、
24:4 by knowledge the rooms are filled with all rare and beautiful treasure. 4 And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches. 4 また、へやは知識によってさまざまの尊く、麗しい宝で満たされる。
24:5 A wise man has great power; and a knowledgeable man increases strength; 5 A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength. 5 知恵ある者は強い人よりも強く、知識ある人は力ある人よりも強い。
24:6 for by wise guidance you wage your war; and victory is in many advisors. 6 For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellers there is safety. 6 良い指揮によって戦いをすることができ、勝利は多くの議する者がいるからである。
24:7 Wisdom is too high for a fool: he doesn't open his mouth in the gate. 7 Wisdom is too high for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate. 7 知恵は高くて愚かな者の及ぶところではない、愚かな者は門で口を開くことができない。
24:8 One who plots to do evil will be called a schemer. 8 He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person. 8 悪を行うことを計る者を人はいたずら者ととなえる。
24:9 The schemes of folly are sin. The mocker is detested by men. 9 The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men. 9 愚かな者の計るところは罪であり、あざける者は人に憎まれる。
24:10 If you falter in the time of trouble, your strength is small. 10 If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small. 10 もしあなたが悩みの日に気をくじくならば、あなたの力は弱い。
24:11 Rescue those who are being led away to death! Indeed, hold back those who are staggering to the slaughter! 11 If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain; 11 死地にひかれゆく者を助け出せ、滅びによろめきゆく者を救え。
24:12 If you say, "Behold, we didn't know this;" doesn't he who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, doesn't he know it? Shall he not render to every man according to his work? 12 If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works? 12 あなたが、われわれはこれを知らなかったといっても、心をはかる者はそれを悟らないであろうか。あなたの魂を守る者はそれを知らないであろうか。彼はおのおのの行いにより、人に報いないであろうか。
24:13 My son, eat honey, for it is good; the droppings of the honeycomb, which are sweet to your taste: 13 My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste: 13 わが子よ、蜜を食べよ、これは良いものである、また、蜂の巣のしたたりはあなたの口に甘い。
24:14 so you shall know wisdom to be to your soul; if you have found it, then there will be a reward,your hope will not be cut off. 14 So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off. 14 知恵もあなたの魂にはそのようであることを知れ。それを得るならば、かならず報いがあって、あなたの望みは、すたらない。
24:15 Don't lay in wait, wicked man, against the habitation of the righteous. Don't destroy his resting place: 15 Lay not wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; spoil not his resting place: 15 悪しき者がするように、正しい者の家をうかがってはならない、その住む所に乱暴をしてはならない。
24:16 for a righteous man falls seven times, and rises up again; but the wicked are overthrown by calamity. 16 For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief. 16 正しい者は七たび倒れても、また起きあがる、しかし、悪しき者は災によって滅びる。
24:17 Don't rejoice when your enemy falls. Don't let your heart be glad when he is overthrown; 17 Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth: 17 あなたのあだが倒れるとき楽しんではならない、彼のつまずくとき心に喜んではならない。
24:18 lest Yahweh see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him. 18 Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him. 18 主はそれを見て悪いこととし、その怒りを彼から転じられる。
24:19 Don't fret yourself because of evildoers; neither be envious of the wicked: 19 Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked: 19 悪を行う者のゆえに心を悩ましてはならない、よこしまな者をうらやんではならない。
24:20 for there will be no reward to the evil man; and the lamp of the wicked shall be snuffed out. 20 For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out. 20 悪しき者には後の良い報いはない、よこしまな者のともしびは消される。
24:21 My son, fear Yahweh and the king. Don't join those who are rebellious: 21 My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change: 21 わが子よ、主と王とを恐れよ、そのいずれにも不従順であってはならない。
24:22 for their calamity will rise suddenly; the destruction from them both--who knows? 22 For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both? 22 その災はたちまち起るからである。この二つの者からくる滅びをだれが知り得ようか。
24:23 These also are sayings of the wise. To show partiality in judgment is not good. 23 These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment. 23 これらもまた知恵ある者の箴言である。片寄ったさばきをするのは、よくない。
24:24 He who says to the wicked, "You are righteous;" peoples shall curse him, and nations shall abhor him-- 24 He that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him: 24 悪しき者に向かって、「あなたは正しい」という者を、人々はのろい、諸民は憎む。
24:25 but it will go well with those who convict the guilty, and a rich blessing will come on them. 25 But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them. 25 悪しき者をせめる者は恵みを得る、また幸福が与えられる。
24:26 An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips. 26 Every man shall kiss his lips that giveth a right answer. 26 正しい答をする者は、くちびるに、口づけするのである。
24:27 Prepare your work outside, and get your fields ready. Afterwards, build your house. 27 Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house. 27 外で、あなたの仕事を整え、畑で、すべての物をおのれのために備え、その後あなたの家を建てるがよい。
24:28 Don't be a witness against your neighbor without cause. Don't deceive with your lips. 28 Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and deceive not with thy lips. 28 ゆえなく隣り人に敵して、証言をしてはならない、くちびるをもって欺いてはならない。
24:29 Don't say, "I will do to him as he has done to me; I will render to the man according to his work." 29 Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work. 29 「彼がわたしにしたように、わたしも彼にしよう、わたしは人がしたところにしたがって、その人に報いよう」と言ってはならない。
24:30 I went by the field of the sluggard, by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; 30 I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; 30 わたしはなまけ者の畑のそばと、知恵のない人のぶどう畑のそばを通ってみたが、
24:31 Behold, it was all grown over with thorns. Its surface was covered with nettles,and its stone wall was broken down. 31 And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down. 31 いばらが一面に生え、あざみがその地面をおおい、その石がきはくずれていた。

24:33 a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep; 33 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: 33 「しばらく眠り、しばらくまどろみ、手をこまぬいて、またしばらく休む」。
24:34 so your poverty will come as a robber, and your want as an armed man. 34 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man. 34 それゆえ、貧しさは盗びとのように、あなたに来、乏しさは、つわもののように、あなたに来る。

25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter. 2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter. 2 事を隠すのは神の誉であり、事を窮めるのは王の誉である。
25:3 As the heavens for height, and the earth for depth, so the hearts of kings are unsearchable. 3 The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable. 3 天の高さと地の深さと、王たる者の心とは測ることができない。
25:4 Take away the dross from the silver, and material comes out for the refiner; 4 Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer. 4 銀から、かなくそを除け、そうすれば、銀細工人が器を造る材料となる。
25:5 Take away the wicked from the king's presence, and his throne will be established in righteousness. 5 Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness. 5 王の前から悪しき者を除け、そうすれば、その位は正義によって堅く立つ。
25:6 Don't exalt yourself in the presence of the king, or claim a place among great men; 6 Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men: 6 王の前で自ら高ぶってはならない、偉い人の場に立ってはならない。
25:7 for it is better that it be said to you, "Come up here," than that you should be put lower in the presence of the prince,whom your eyes have seen. 7 For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen. 7 尊い人の前で下にさげられるよりは、「ここに上がれ」といわれるほうがましだ。
25:8 Don't be hasty in bringing charges to court. What will you do in the end when your neighbor shames you? 8 Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame. 8 あなたが目に見たことを、軽々しく法廷に出してはならない。あとになり、あなたが隣り人にはずかしめられるとき、あなたはどうしようとするのか。
25:9 Debate your case with your neighbor, and don't betray the confidence of another; 9 Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another: 9 隣り人と争うことがあるならば、ただその人と争え、他人の秘密をもらしてはならない。
25:10 lest one who hears it put you to shame, and your bad reputation never depart. 10 Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away. 10 そうでないと、聞く者があなたをいやしめ、あなたは、いつまでもそしられる。
25:11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver. 11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. 11 おりにかなって語る言葉は、銀の彫り物に金のりんごをはめたようだ。
25:12 As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover to an obedient ear. 12 As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear. 12 知恵をもって戒める者は、これをきく者の耳にとって、金の耳輪、精金の飾りのようだ。
25:13 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to those who send him; for he refreshes the soul of his masters. 13 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters. 13 忠実な使者はこれをつかわす者にとって、刈入れの日に冷やかな雪があるようだ、よくその主人の心を喜ばせる。
25:14 As clouds and wind without rain, so is he who boasts of gifts deceptively. 14 Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain. 14 贈り物をすると偽って誇る人は、雨のない雲と風のようだ。
25:15 By patience a ruler is persuaded. A soft tongue breaks the bone. 15 By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone. 15 忍耐をもって説けば君も言葉をいれる、柔らかな舌は骨を砕く。
25:16 Have you found honey? Eat as much as is sufficient for you, lest you eat too much, and vomit it. 16 Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it. 16 蜜を得たならば、ただ足るほどにこれを食べよ、おそらくは食べすごして、それを吐き出すであろう。
25:17 Let your foot be seldom in your neighbor's house, lest he be weary of you, and hate you. 17 Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour's house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee. 17 隣り人の家に足をしげくしてはならない、おそらくは彼は煩わしくなって、あなたを憎むようになろう。
25:18 A man who gives false testimony against his neighbor is like a club, a sword, or a sharp arrow. 18 A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow. 18 隣り人に敵して偽りのあかしを立てる人は、こん棒、つるぎ、または鋭い矢のようだ。
25:19 Confidence in someone unfaithful in time of trouble is like a bad tooth, or a lame foot. 19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint. 19 悩みに会うとき不信実な者を頼みにするのは、悪い歯、またはなえた足を頼みとするようなものだ。
25:20 As one who takes away a garment in cold weather, or vinegar on soda,so is one who sings songs to a heavy heart. 20 As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to an heavy heart. 20 心の痛める人の前で歌をうたうのは、寒い日に着物を脱ぐようであり、また傷の上に酢をそそぐようだ。
25:21 If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat. If he is thirsty, give him water to drink: 21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink: 21 もしあなたのあだが飢えているならば、パンを与えて食べさせ、もしかわいているならば水を与えて飲ませよ。
25:22 for you will heap coals of fire on his head, and Yahweh will reward you. 22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee. 22 こうするのは、火を彼のこうべに積むのである、主はあなたに報いられる。
25:23 The north wind brings forth rain: so a backbiting tongue brings an angry face. 23 The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue. 23 北風は雨を起し、陰言をいう舌は人の顔を怒らす。
25:24 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than to share a house with a contentious woman. 24 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house. 24 争いを好む女と一緒に家におるよりは、屋根のすみにおるほうがよい。
25:25 Like cold water to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country. 25 As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country. 25 遠い国から来るよい消息は、かわいている人が飲む冷やかな水のようだ。
25:26 Like a muddied spring, and a polluted well, so is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked. 26 A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring. 26 正しい者が悪い者の前に屈服するのは、井戸が濁ったよう、また泉がよごれたようなものだ。
25:27 It is not good to eat much honey; nor is it honorable to seek one's own honor. 27 It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory. 27 蜜を多く食べるのはよくない、ほめる言葉は控え目にするがよい。
25:28 Like a city that is broken down and without walls is a man whose spirit is without restraint. 28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls. 28 自分の心を制しない人は、城壁のない破れた城のようだ。

26:1 Like snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honor is not fitting for a fool. 1 As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool. 1 誉が愚かな者にふさわしくないのは、夏に雪が降り、刈入れの時に雨が降るようなものだ。
26:2 Like a fluttering sparrow, like a darting swallow,so the undeserved curse doesn't come to rest. 2 As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come. 2 いわれのないのろいは、飛びまわるすずめや、飛びかけるつばめのようなもので、止まらない。
26:3 A whip is for the horse, a bridle for the donkey,and a rod for the back of fools! 3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool's back. 3 馬のためにはむちがあり、ろばのためにはくつわがあり、愚かな者の背のためにはつえがある。
26:4 Don't answer a fool according to his folly, lest you also be like him. 4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him. 4 愚かな者にその愚かさにしたがって答をするな、自分も彼と同じようにならないためだ。
26:5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes. 5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit. 5 愚かな者にその愚かさにしたがって答をせよ、彼が自分の目に自らを知恵ある者と見ないためだ。
26:6 One who sends a message by the hand of a fool is cutting off feet and drinking violence. 6 He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off the feet, and drinketh damage. 6 愚かな者に託して事を言い送る者は、自分の足を切り去り、身に害をうける。
26:7 Like the legs of the lame that hang loose: so is a parable in the mouth of fools. 7 The legs of the lame are not equal: so is a parable in the mouth of fools. 7 あしなえの足は用がない、愚かな者の口には箴言もそれにひとしい。
26:8 As one who binds a stone in a sling, so is he who gives honor to a fool. 8 As he that bindeth a stone in a sling, so is he that giveth honour to a fool. 8 誉を愚かな者に与えるのは、石を石投げにつなぐようだ。
26:9 Like a thornbush that goes into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fools. 9 As a thorn goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fools. 9 愚かな者の口に箴言があるのは、酔った者が、とげのあるつえを手で振り上げるようだ。
26:10 As an archer who wounds all, so is he who hires a foolor he who hires those who pass by. 10 The great God that formed all things both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors. 10 通りがかりの愚か者や、酔った者を雇う者は、すべての人を傷つける射手のようだ。
26:11 As a dog that returns to his vomit, so is a fool who repeats his folly. 11 As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly. 11 犬が帰って来てその吐いた物を食べるように、愚かな者はその愚かさをくり返す。
26:12 Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him. 12 Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him. 12 自分の目に自らを知恵ある者とする人を、あなたは見るか、彼よりもかえって愚かな人に望みがある。
26:13 The sluggard says, "There is a lion in the road! A fierce lion roams the streets!" 13 The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets. 13 なまけ者は、「道にししがいる、ちまたにししがいる」という。
26:14 As the door turns on its hinges, so does the sluggard on his bed. 14 As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed. 14 戸がちょうつがいによって回るように、なまけ者はその寝床で寝返りをする。
26:15 The sluggard buries his hand in the dish. He is too lazy to bring it back to his mouth. 15 The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth. 15 なまけ者は手を皿に入れても、それを口に持ってゆくことをいとう。
26:16 The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven men who answer with discretion. 16 The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason. 16 なまけ者は自分の目に、良く答えることのできる七人の者よりも、自らを知恵ありとする。
26:17 Like one who grabs a dog's ears is one who passes by and meddles in a quarrel not his own. 17 He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears. 17 自分に関係のない争いにたずさわる者は、通りすぎる犬の耳をとらえる者のようだ。
26:18 Like a madman who shoots torches, arrows, and death, 18 As a mad man who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death, 18
26:19 is the man who deceives his neighbor and says, "Am I not joking?" 19 So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport? 19 隣り人を欺いて、「わたしはただ戯れにした」という者は、燃え木または矢、または死を、投げつける気違いのようだ。
26:20 For lack of wood a fire goes out. Without gossip, a quarrel dies down. 20 Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth. 20 たきぎがなければ火は消え、人のよしあしを言う者がなければ争いはやむ。
26:21 As coals are to hot embers, and wood to fire, so is a contentious man to kindling strife. 21 As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife. 21 おき火に炭をつぎ、火にたきぎをくべるように、争いを好む人は争いの火をおこす。
26:22 The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, they go down into the innermost parts. 22 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly. 22 人のよしあしをいう者の言葉はおいしい食物のようで、腹の奥にしみこむ。
26:23 Like silver dross on an earthen vessel are the lips of a fervent one with an evil heart. 23 Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross. 23 くちびるはなめらかであっても、心の悪いのは上ぐすりをかけた土の器のようだ。
26:24 A malicious man disguises himself with his lips, but he harbors evil in his heart. 24 He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him; 24 憎む者はくちびるをもって自ら飾るけれども、心のうちには偽りをいだく。
26:25 When his speech is charming, don't believe him; for there are seven abominations in his heart. 25 When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart. 25 彼が声をやわらげて語っても、信じてはならない。その心に七つの憎むべきものがあるからだ。
26:26 His malice may be concealed by deception, but his wickedness will be exposed in the assembly. 26 Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation. 26 たとい偽りをもってその憎しみをかくしても、彼の悪は会衆の中に現れる。
26:27 Whoever digs a pit shall fall into it. Whoever rolls a stone, it will come back on him. 27 Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him. 27 穴を掘る者は自らその中に陥る、石をまろばしあげる者の上に、その石はまろびかえる。
26:28 A lying tongue hates those it hurts; and a flattering mouth works ruin. 28 A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin. 28 偽りの舌は自分が傷つけた者を憎み、へつらう口は滅びをきたらせる。

27:1 Don't boast about tomorrow; for you don't know what a day may bring forth. 1 Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth. 1 あすのことを誇ってはならない、一日のうちに何がおこるかを知ることができないからだ。
27:2 Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth;a stranger, and not your own lips. 2 Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips. 2 自分の口をもって自らをほめることなく、他人にほめさせよ。自分のくちびるをもってせず、ほかの人にあなたをほめさせよ。
27:3 A stone is heavy, and sand is a burden;but a fool's provocation is heavier than both. 3 A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool's wrath is heavier than them both. 3 石は重く、砂も軽くはない、しかし愚かな者の怒りはこの二つよりも重い。
27:4 Wrath is cruel, and anger is overwhelming;but who is able to stand before jealousy? 4 Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy? 4 憤りはむごく、怒りははげしい、しかしねたみの前には、だれが立ちえよう。
27:5 Better is open rebuke than hidden love. 5 Open rebuke is better than secret love. 5 あからさまに戒めるのは、ひそかに愛するのにまさる。
27:6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; although the kisses of an enemy are profuse. 6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful. 6 愛する者が傷つけるのは、まことからであり、あだの口づけするのは偽りからである。
27:7 A full soul loathes a honeycomb; but to a hungry soul, every bitter thing is sweet. 7 The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet. 7 飽いている者は蜂蜜をも踏みつける、しかし飢えた者には苦い物でさえ、みな甘い。
27:8 As a bird that wanders from her nest, so is a man who wanders from his home. 8 As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place. 8 その家を離れてさまよう人は、巣を離れてさまよう鳥のようだ。
27:9 Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart; so does earnest counsel from a man's friend. 9 Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel. 9 油と香とは人の心を喜ばせる、しかし魂は悩みによって裂かれる。
27:10 Don't forsake your friend and your father's friend. Don't go to your brother's house in the day of your disaster: better is a neighbor who is near than a distant brother. 10 Thine own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother's house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off. 10 あなたの友、あなたの父の友を捨てるな、あなたが悩みにあう日には兄弟の家に行くな、近い隣り人は遠くにいる兄弟にまさる。
27:11 Be wise, my son, and bring joy to my heart, then I can answer my tormentor. 11 My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me. 11 わが子よ、知恵を得て、わたしの心を喜ばせよ、そうすればわたしをそしる者に答えることができる。
27:12 A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge; but the simple pass on, and suffer for it. 12 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished. 12 賢い者は災を見て自ら避け、思慮のない者は進んでいって、罰をうける。
27:13 Take his garment when he puts up collateral for a stranger. Hold it for a wayward woman! 13 Take his garment that is surety for a stranger, and take a pledge of him for a strange woman. 13 人のために保証する者からは、まずその着物をとれ、他人のために保証をする者をば抵当に取れ。
27:14 He who blesses his neighbor with a loud voice early in the morning, it will be taken as a curse by him. 14 He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him. 14 朝はやく起きて大声にその隣り人を祝すれば、かえってのろいと見なされよう。
27:15 A continual dropping on a rainy day and a contentious wife are alike: 15 A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike. 15 雨の降る日に雨漏りの絶えないのと、争い好きな女とは同じだ。
27:16 restraining her is like restraining the wind, or like grasping oil in his right hand. 16 Whosoever hideth her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right hand, which bewrayeth itself. 16 この女を制するのは風を制するのとおなじく、右の手に油をつかむのとおなじだ。
27:17 Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens his friend's countenance. 17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend. 17 鉄は鉄をとぐ、そのように人はその友の顔をとぐ。
27:18 Whoever tends the fig tree shall eat its fruit. He who looks after his master shall be honored. 18 Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof: so he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured. 18 いちじくの木を守る者はその実を食べる、主人を尊ぶ者は誉を得る。
27:19 As water reflects a face, so a man's heart reflects the man. 19 As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man. 19 水にうつせば顔と顔とが応じるように、人の心はその人をうつす。
27:20 Sheol*10 and Abaddon are never satisfied; and a man's eyes are never satisfied. 20 Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied. 20 陰府と滅びとは飽くことなく、人の目もまた飽くことがない。
27:21 The crucible is for silver, and the furnace for gold;but man is refined by his praise. 21 As the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a man to his praise. 21 るつぼによって銀をためし、炉によって金をためす、人はその称賛によってためされる。
27:22 Though you grind a fool in a mortar with a pestle along with grain, yet his foolishness will not be removed from him. 22 Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet will not his foolishness depart from him. 22 愚かな者をうすに入れ、きねをもって、麦と共にこれをついても、その愚かさは去ることがない。
27:23 Know well the state of your flocks, and pay attention to your herds: 23 Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds. 23 あなたの羊の状態をよく知り、あなたの群れに心をとめよ。
27:24 for riches are not forever, nor does even the crown endure to all generations. 24 For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation? 24 富はいつまでも続くものではない、どうして位が末代までも保つであろうか。
27:25 The hay is removed, and the new growth appears, the grasses of the hills are gathered in. 25 The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered. 25 草が刈り取られ、新しい芽がのび、山の牧草も集められると、
27:26 The lambs are for your clothing, and the goats are the price of a field. 26 The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field. 26 小羊はあなたの衣料を出し、やぎは畑を買う価となり、
27:27 There will be plenty of goats' milk for your food, for your family's food, and for the nourishment of your servant girls. 27 And thou shalt have goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens. 27 やぎの乳は多くて、あなたと、あなたの家のものの食物となり、おとめらを養うのにじゅうぶんである。

28:1 The wicked flee when no one pursues; but the righteous are as bold as a lion. 1 The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion. 1 悪しき者は追う人もないのに逃げる、正しい人はししのように勇ましい。
28:2 In rebellion, a land has many rulers, but order is maintained by a man of understanding and knowledge. 2 For the transgression of a land many are the princes thereof: but by a man of understanding and knowledge the state thereof shall be prolonged. 2 国の罪によって、治める者は多くなり、さとく、また知識ある人によって、国はながく保つ。
28:3 A needy man who oppresses the poor is like a driving rain which leaves no crops. 3 A poor man that oppresseth the poor is like a sweeping rain which leaveth no food. 3 貧しい者をしえたげる貧しい人は、糧食を残さない激しい雨のようだ。
28:4 Those who forsake the law praise the wicked; but those who keep the law contend with them. 4 They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them. 4 律法を捨てる者は悪しき者をほめる、律法を守る者はこれに敵対する。
28:5 Evil men don't understand justice; but those who seek Yahweh understand it fully. 5 Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things. 5 悪人は正しいことを悟らない、主を求める者はこれをことごとく悟る。
28:6 Better is the poor who walks in his integrity, than he who is perverse in his ways, and he is rich. 6 Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich. 6 正しく歩む貧しい者は、曲った道を歩む富める者にまさる。
28:7 Whoever keeps the law is a wise son; but he who is a companion of gluttons shames his father. 7 Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father. 7 律法を守る者は賢い子である、不品行な者と交わるものは、父をはずかしめる。
28:8 He who increases his wealth by excessive interest gathers it for one who has pity on the poor. 8 He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor. 8 利息と高利とによってその富をます者は、貧しい者を恵む者のために、それをたくわえる。
28:9 He who turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination. 9 He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination. 9 耳をそむけて律法を聞かない者は、その祈でさえも憎まれる。
28:10 Whoever causes the upright to go astray in an evil way, he will fall into his own trap; but the blameless will inherit good. 10 Whoso causeth the righteous to go astray in an evil way, he shall fall himself into his own pit: but the upright shall have good things in possession. 10 正しい者を悪い道に惑わす者は、みずから自分の穴に陥る、しかし誠実な人は幸福を継ぐ。
28:11 The rich man is wise in his own eyes; but the poor who has understanding sees through him. 11 The rich man is wise in his own conceit; but the poor that hath understanding searcheth him out. 11 富める人は自分の目に自らを知恵ある者と見る、しかし悟りのある貧しい者は彼を見やぶる。
28:12 When the righteous triumph, there is great glory; but when the wicked rise, men hide themselves. 12 When righteous men do rejoice, there is great glory: but when the wicked rise, a man is hidden. 12 正しい者が勝つときは、大いなる栄えがある、悪しき者が起るときは、民は身をかくす。
28:13 He who conceals his sins doesn't prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy. 13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. 13 その罪を隠す者は栄えることがない、言い表わしてこれを離れる者は、あわれみをうける。
28:14 Blessed is the man who always fears; but one who hardens his heart falls into trouble. 14 Happy is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief. 14 常に主を恐れる人はさいわいである、心をかたくなにする者は災に陥る。
28:15 As a roaring lion or a charging bear, so is a wicked ruler over helpless people. 15 As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people. 15 貧しい民を治める悪いつかさは、ほえるしし、または飢えたくまのようだ。
28:16 A tyrannical ruler lacks judgment. One who hates ill-gotten gain will have long days. 16 The prince that wanteth understanding is also a great oppressor: but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days. 16 悟りのないつかさは残忍な圧制者である、不正の利を憎む者は長命を得る。
28:17 A man who is tormented by life blood will be a fugitive until death; no one will support him. 17 A man that doeth violence to the blood of any person shall flee to the pit; let no man stay him. 17 人を殺してその血を身に負う者は死ぬまで、のがれびとである、だれもこれを助けてはならない。
28:18 Whoever walks blamelessly is kept safe; but one with perverse ways will fall suddenly. 18 Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved: but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once. 18 正しく歩む者は救を得、曲った道に歩む者は穴に陥る。
28:19 One who works his land will have an abundance of food; but one who chases fantasies will have his fill of poverty. 19 He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough. 19 自分の田地を耕す者は食糧に飽き、無益な事に従う者は貧乏に飽きる。
28:20 A faithful man is rich with blessings; but one who is eager to be rich will not go unpunished. 20 A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent. 20 忠実な人は多くの祝福を得る、急いで富を得ようとする者は罰を免れない。
28:21 To show partiality is not good; yet a man will do wrong for a piece of bread. 21 To have respect of persons is not good: for for a piece of bread that man will transgress. 21 人を片寄り見ることは良くない、人は一切れのパンのために、とがを犯すことがある。
28:22 A stingy man hurries after riches, and doesn't know that poverty waits for him. 22 He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him. 22 欲の深い人は急いで富を得ようとする、かえって欠乏が自分の所に来ることを知らない。
28:23 One who rebukes a man will afterward find more favor than one who flatters with the tongue. 23 He that rebuketh a man afterwards shall find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue. 23 人を戒める者は舌をもってへつらう者よりも、大いなる感謝をうける。
28:24 Whoever robs his father or his mother, and says, "It's not wrong." He is a partner with a destroyer. 24 Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer. 24 父や母の物を盗んで「これは罪ではない」と言う者は、滅ぼす者の友である。
28:25 One who is greedy stirs up strife; but one who trusts in Yahweh will prosper. 25 He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat. 25 むさぼる者は争いを起し、主に信頼する者は豊かになる。
28:26 One who trusts in himself is a fool; but one who walks in wisdom is kept safe. 26 He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered. 26 自分の心を頼む者は愚かである、知恵をもって歩む者は救を得る。
28:27 One who gives to the poor has no lack; but one who closes his eyes will have many curses. 27 He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse. 27 貧しい者に施す者は物に不足しない、目をおおって見ない人は多くののろいをうける。
28:28 When the wicked rise, men hide themselves; but when they perish, the righteous thrive. 28 When the wicked rise, men hide themselves: but when they perish, the righteous increase. 28 悪しき者が起るときは、民は身をかくす、その滅びるときは、正しい人が増す。

29:1 He who is often rebuked and stiffens his neck will be destroyed suddenly, with no remedy. 1 He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy. 1 しばしばしかられても、なおかたくなな者は、たちまち打ち敗られて助かることはない。
29:2 When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; but when the wicked rule, the people groan. 2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn. 2 正しい者が権力を得れば民は喜び、悪しき者が治めるとき、民はうめき苦しむ。
29:3 Whoever loves wisdom brings joy to his father; but a companion of prostitutes squanders his wealth. 3 Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth his substance. 3 知恵を愛する人はその父を喜ばせ、遊女に交わる者はその資産を浪費する。
29:4 The king by justice makes the land stable, but he who takes bribes tears it down. 4 The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it. 4 王は公儀をもって国を堅くする、しかし、重税を取り立てる者はこれを滅ぼす。
29:5 A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet. 5 A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his feet. 5 その隣り人にへつらう者は、彼の足の前に網を張る。
29:6 An evil man is snared by his sin, but the righteous can sing and be glad. 6 In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare: but the righteous doth sing and rejoice. 6 悪人は自分の罪のわなに陥る、しかし正しい人は喜び楽しむ。
29:7 The righteous care about justice for the poor. The wicked aren't concerned about knowledge. 7 The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: but the wicked regardeth not to know it. 7 正しい人は貧しい者の訴えをかえりみる、悪しき人はそれを知ろうとはしない。
29:8 Mockers stir up a city, but wise men turn away anger. 8 Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise men turn away wrath. 8 あざける人は町を乱し、知恵ある者は怒りを静める。
29:9 If a wise man goes to court with a foolish man, the fool rages or scoffs, and there is no peace. 9 If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest. 9 知恵ある人が愚かな人と争うと、愚かな者はただ怒り、あるいは笑って、休むことがない。
29:10 The bloodthirsty hate a man of integrity; and they seek the life of the upright. 10 The bloodthirsty hate the upright: but the just seek his soul. 10 血に飢えている人は罪のない者を憎む、悪しき者は彼の命を求める。
29:11 A fool vents all of his anger, but a wise man brings himself under control. 11 A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards. 11 愚かな者は怒りをことごとく表わし、知恵ある者は静かにこれをおさえる。
29:12 If a ruler listens to lies, all of his officials are wicked. 12 If a ruler hearken to lies, all his servants are wicked. 12 もし治める者が偽りの言葉に聞くならば、その役人らはみな悪くなる。
29:13 The poor man and the oppressor have this in common: Yahweh gives sight to the eyes of both. 13 The poor and the deceitful man meet together: the LORD lighteneth both their eyes. 13 貧しい者と、しえたげる者とは共に世におる、主は彼ら両者の目に光を与えられる。
29:14 The king who fairly judges the poor, his throne shall be established forever. 14 The king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever. 14 もし王が貧しい者を公平にさばくならば、その位はいつまでも堅く立つ。
29:15 The rod of correction gives wisdom, but a child left to himself causes shame to his mother. 15 The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame. 15 むちと戒めとは知恵を与える、わがままにさせた子はその母に恥をもたらす。
29:16 When the wicked increase, sin increases; but the righteous will see their downfall. 16 When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall. 16 悪しき者が権力を得ると罪も増す、正しい者は彼らの倒れるのを見る。
29:17 Correct your son, and he will give you peace; yes, he will bring delight to your soul. 17 Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul. 17 あなたの子を懲らしめよ、そうすれば彼はあなたを安らかにし、またあなたの心に喜びを与える。
29:18 Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed. 18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. 18 預言がなければ民はわがままにふるまう、しかし律法を守る者はさいわいである。
29:19 A servant can't be corrected by words. Though he understands, yet he will not respond. 19 A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understand he will not answer. 19 しもべは言葉だけで訓練することはできない、彼は聞いて知っても、心にとめないからである。
29:20 Do you see a man who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him. 20 Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him. 20 言葉の軽率な人を見るか、彼よりもかえって愚かな者のほうに望みがある。
29:21 He who pampers his servant from youth will have him become a son in the end. 21 He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have him become his son at the length. 21 しもべをその幼い時からわがままに育てる人は、ついにはそれを自分のあとつぎにする。
29:22 An angry man stirs up strife, and a wrathful man abounds in sin. 22 An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression. 22 怒る人は争いを起し、憤る人は多くの罪を犯す。
29:23 A man's pride brings him low, but one of lowly spirit gains honor. 23 A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit. 23 人の高ぶりはその人を低くし、心にへりくだる者は誉を得る。
29:24 Whoever is an accomplice of a thief is an enemy of his own soul. He takes an oath, but dares not testify. 24 Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth cursing, and bewrayeth it not. 24 盗びとにくみする者は自分の魂を憎む、彼はのろいを聞いても何事をも口外しない。
29:25 The fear of man proves to be a snare, but whoever puts his trust in Yahweh is kept safe. 25 The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe. 25 人を恐れると、わなに陥る、主に信頼する者は安らかである。
29:26 Many seek the ruler's favor, but a man's justice comes from Yahweh. 26 Many seek the ruler's favour; but every man's judgment cometh from the LORD. 26 治める者の歓心を得ようとする人は多い、しかし人の事を定めるのは主による。
29:27 A dishonest man detests the righteous, and the upright in their ways detest the wicked. 27 An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked. 27 正しい人は不正を行う人を憎み、悪しき者は正しく歩む人を憎む。

30:2 "Surely I am the most ignorant man, and don't have a man's understanding. 2 Surely I am more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding of a man. 2 わたしは確かに人よりも愚かであり、わたしには人の悟りがない。
30:3 I have not learned wisdom, neither do I have the knowledge of the Holy One. 3 I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy. 3 わたしはまだ知恵をならうことができず、また、聖なる者を悟ることもできない。
30:4 Who has ascended up into heaven, and descended? Who has gathered the wind in his fists? Who has bound the waters in his garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son's name, if you know? 4 Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell? 4 天にのぼったり、下ったりしたのはだれか、風をこぶしの中に集めたのはだれか、水を着物に包んだのはだれか、地のすべての限界を定めた者はだれか、その名は何か、その子の名は何か、あなたは確かにそれを知っている。
30:5 "Every word of God is flawless. He is a shield to those who take refuge in him. 5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. 5 神の言葉はみな真実である、神は彼に寄り頼む者の盾である。
30:6 Don't you add to his words, lest he reprove you, and you be found a liar. 6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar. 6 その言葉に付け加えてはならない、彼があなたを責め、あなたを偽り者とされないためだ。
30:7 "Two things I have asked of you; don't deny me before I die: 7 Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die: 7 わたしは二つのことをあなたに求めます、わたしの死なないうちに、これをかなえてください。
30:8 Remove far from me falsehood and lies. Give me neither poverty nor riches. Feed me with the food that is needful for me; 8 Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: 8 うそ、偽りをわたしから遠ざけ、貧しくもなく、また富みもせず、ただなくてならぬ食物でわたしを養ってください。
30:9 lest I be full, deny you, and say, 'Who is Yahweh?' or lest I be poor, and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God. 9 Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain. 9 飽き足りて、あなたを知らないといい、「主とはだれか」と言うことのないため、また貧しくて盗みをし、わたしの神の名を汚すことのないためです。
30:10 "Don't slander a servant to his master, lest he curse you, and you be held guilty. 10 Accuse not a servant unto his master, lest he curse thee, and thou be found guilty. 10 あなたは、しもべのことをその主人に、あしざまにいってはならない、そうでないと彼はあなたをのろい、あなたは罪をきせられる。
30:11 There is a generation that curses their father, and doesn't bless their mother. 11 There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother. 11 世には父をのろったり、母を祝福しない者がある。
30:12 There is a generation that is pure in their own eyes, yet are not washed from their filthiness. 12 There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness. 12 世には自分の目にみずからを清い者として、なおその汚れを洗われないものがある。

31:2 "Oh, my son! Oh, son of my womb! Oh, son of my vows! 2 What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows? 2 わが子よ、何を言おうか。わが胎の子よ、何を言おうか。わたしが願をかけて得た子よ、何をいおうか。
31:3 Don't give your strength to women, nor your ways to that which destroys kings. 3 Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings. 3 あなたの力を女についやすな、王をも滅ぼすものに、あなたの道を任せるな。
31:4 It is not for kings, Lemuel; it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes to say, 'Where is strong drink?' 4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink: 4 レムエルよ、酒を飲むのは、王のすることではない。濃い酒を求めるのは君たる者のすることではない。
