1 For I desire to have you know how greatly I struggle for you, and for those at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh; 1 For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh; 2:1 わたしが、あなたがたとラオデキヤにいる人たちのため、また、直接にはまだ会ったことのない人々のために、どんなに苦闘しているか、わかってもらいたい。
2 that their hearts may be comforted, they being knit together in love, and gaining all riches of the full assurance of understanding, that theymay know the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, 2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; 2:2 それは彼らが、心を励まされ、愛によって結び合わされ、豊かな理解力を十分に与えられ、神の奥義なるキリストを知るに至るためである。

23 Which things indeed appear like wisdom in self-imposed worship, and humility, and severity to the body; but aren't of any value against the indulgence of the flesh. 23 Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body: not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh. 2:23 これらのことは、ひとりよがりの礼拝とわざとらしい謙そんと、からだの苦行とをともなうので、知恵のあるしわざらしく見えるが、実は、ほしいままな肉欲を防ぐのに、なんの役にも立つものではない。

1 If then you were raised together with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated on the right hand of God. 1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 3:1 このように、あなたがたはキリストと共によみがえらされたのだから、上にあるものを求めなさい。そこではキリストが神の右に座しておられるのである。
2 Set your mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are on the earth. 2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3:2 あなたがたは上にあるものを思うべきであって、地上のものに心を引かれてはならない。
3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 3:3 あなたがたはすでに死んだものであって、あなたがたのいのちは、キリストと共に神のうちに隠されているのである。
4 When Christ, our life, is revealed, then you will also be revealed with him in glory. 4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. 3:4 わたしたちのいのちなるキリストが現れる時には、あなたがたも、キリストと共に栄光のうちに現れるであろう。
5 Put to death therefore your members which are on the earth: sexual immorality, uncleanness, depraved passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry; 5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: 3:5 だから、地上の肢体、すなわち、不品行、汚れ、情欲、悪欲、また貪欲を殺してしまいなさい。貪欲は偶像礼拝にほかならない。

7 You also once walked in those, when you lived in them; 7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. 3:7 あなたがたも、以前これらのうちに日を過ごしていた時には、これらのことをして歩いていた。
8 but now you also put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and shameful speaking out of your mouth. 8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. 3:8 しかし今は、これらいっさいのことを捨て、怒り、憤り、悪意、そしり、口から出る恥ずべき言葉を、捨ててしまいなさい。

11 where there can't be Greek and Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, bondservant, freeman; but Christ is all, and in all. 11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all. 3:11 そこには、もはやギリシヤ人とユダヤ人、割礼と無割礼、未開の人、スクテヤ人、奴隷、自由人の差別はない。キリストがすべてであり、すべてのもののうちにいますのである。
12 Put on therefore, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance; 12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 3:12 だから、あなたがたは、神に選ばれた者、聖なる、愛されている者であるから、あわれみの心、慈愛、謙そん、柔和、寛容を身に着けなさい。
13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. 13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. 3:13 互に忍びあい、もし互に責むべきことがあれば、ゆるし合いなさい。主もあなたがたをゆるして下さったのだから、そのように、あなたがたもゆるし合いなさい。
14 Above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfection. 14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. 3:14 これらいっさいのものの上に、愛を加えなさい。愛は、すべてを完全に結ぶ帯である。

18 Wives, be in subjection to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. 18 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. 3:18 妻たる者よ、夫に仕えなさい。それが、主にある者にふさわしいことである。

20 Children, obey your parents in all things, for this pleases the Lord. 20 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. 3:20 子たる者よ、何事についても両親に従いなさい。これが主に喜ばれることである。
21 Fathers, don't provoke your children, so that they won't be discouraged. 21 Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged. 3:21 父たる者よ、子供をいらだたせてはいけない。心がいじけるかも知れないから。
22 Servants, obey in all things those who are your masters according to the flesh, not just when they are looking, as men pleasers, but in singleness of heart, fearing God. 22 Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God; 3:22 僕たる者よ、何事についても、肉による主人に従いなさい。人にへつらおうとして、目先だけの勤めをするのではなく、真心をこめて主を恐れつつ、従いなさい。
23 And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men, 23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; 3:23 何をするにも、人に対してではなく、主に対してするように、心から働きなさい。
24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. 24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. 3:24 あなたがたが知っているとおり、あなたがたは御国をつぐことを、報いとして主から受けるであろう。あなたがたは、主キリストに仕えているのである。
25 But he who does wrong will receive again for the wrong that he has done, and there is no partiality. 25 But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons. 3:25 不正を行う者は、自分の行った不正に対して報いを受けるであろう。それには差別扱いはない。

1 Masters, give to your servants that which is just and equal, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven. 1 Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven. 4:1 主人たる者よ、僕を正しく公平に扱いなさい。あなたがたにも主が天にいますことが、わかっているのだから。
2 Continue steadfastly in prayer, watching therein with thanksgiving; 2 Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving; 4:2 目をさまして、感謝のうちに祈り、ひたすら祈り続けなさい。
3 praying together for us also, that God may open to us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds; 3 Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds: 4:3 同時にわたしたちのためにも、神が御言のために門を開いて下さって、わたしたちがキリストの奥義を語れるように(わたしは、実は、そのために獄につながれているのである)、
4 that I may reveal it as I ought to speak. 4 That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak. 4:4 また、わたしが語るべきことをはっきりと語れるように、祈ってほしい。
5 Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. 5 Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. 4:5 今の時を生かして用い、そとの人に対して賢く行動しなさい。
6 Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. 6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. 4:6 いつも、塩で味つけられた、やさしい言葉を使いなさい。そうすれば、ひとりびとりに対してどう答えるべきか、わかるであろう。
7 All my affairs will be made known to you by Tychicus, the beloved brother, faithful servant, and fellow bondservant in the Lord. 7 All my state shall Tychicus declare unto you, who is a beloved brother, and a faithful minister and fellowservant in the Lord: 4:7 わたしの様子については、主にあって共に僕であり、また忠実に仕えている愛する兄弟テキコが、あなたがたにいっさいのことを報告するであろう。
8 I am sending him to you for this very purpose, that he may know your circumstances and comfort your hearts, 8 Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that he might know your estate, and comfort your hearts; 4:8 わたしが彼をあなたがたのもとに送るのは、わたしたちの様子を知り、また彼によって心に励ましを受けるためなのである。

11 and Jesus who is called Justus, who are of the circumcision. 17 Tell Archippus, "Take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you fulfill it." 17 And say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it. 4:17 アルキポに、「主にあって受けた務をよく果すように」と伝えてほしい。
