13 Now I don't desire to have you unaware, brothers, that I often planned to come to you, and was hindered so far, that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among the rest of the Gentiles. 13 Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, (but was let hitherto,) that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles. 1:13 兄弟たちよ。このことを知らずにいてもらいたくない。わたしはほかの異邦人の間で得たように、あなたがたの間でも幾分かの実を得るために、あなたがたの所に行こうとしばしば企てたが、今まで妨げられてきた。
14 I am debtor both to Greeks and to foreigners, both to the wise and to the foolish. 14 I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise. 1:14 わたしには、ギリシヤ人にも未開の人にも、賢い者にも無知な者にも、果すべき責任がある。
15 So, as much as is in me, I am eager to preach the Good News to you also who are in Rome. 15 So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also. 1:15 そこで、わたしとしての切なる願いは、ローマにいるあなたがたにも、福音を宣べ伝えることなのである。
16 For I am not ashamed of the Good News of Christ, for it is the power of God for salvation for everyone who believes; for the Jew first, and also for the Greek. 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 1:16 わたしは福音を恥としない。それは、ユダヤ人をはじめ、ギリシヤ人にも、すべて信じる者に、救を得させる神の力である。
17 For in it is revealed God's righteousness from faith to faith. As it is written, "But the righteous shall live by faith." 17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. 1:17 神の義は、その福音の中に啓示され、信仰に始まり信仰に至らせる。これは、「信仰による義人は生きる」と書いてあるとおりである。
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 1:18 神の怒りは、不義をもって真理をはばもうとする人間のあらゆる不信心と不義とに対して、天から啓示される。

20 For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity; that they may be without excuse. 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 1:20 神の見えない性質、すなわち、神の永遠の力と神性とは、天地創造このかた、被造物において知られていて、明らかに認められるからである。したがって、彼らには弁解の余地がない。
21 Because, knowing God, they didn't glorify him as God, neither gave thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. 21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 1:21 なぜなら、彼らは神を知っていながら、神としてあがめず、感謝もせず、かえってその思いはむなしくなり、その無知な心は暗くなったからである。

24 Therefore God also gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to uncleanness, that their bodies should be dishonored among themselves, 24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 1:24 ゆえに、神は、彼らが心の欲情にかられ、自分のからだを互にはずかしめて、汚すままに任せられた。
25 who exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. 26 For this reason, God gave them up to vile passions. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural function of the woman, burned in their lust toward one another, men doing what is inappropriate with men, and receiving in themselves the due penalty of their error. 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. 1:27 男もまた同じように女との自然の関係を捨てて、互にその情欲の炎を燃やし、男は男に対して恥ずべきことをなし、そしてその乱行の当然の報いを、身に受けたのである。
28 Even as they refused to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 1:28 そして、彼らは神を認めることを正しいとしなかったので、神は彼らを正しからぬ思いにわたし、なすべからざる事をなすに任せられた。

1 Therefore you are without excuse, O man, whoever you are who judge. For in that which you judge another, you condemn yourself. For you who judge practice the same things. 1 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things. 2:1 だから、ああ、すべて人をさばく者よ。あなたには弁解の余地がない。あなたは、他人をさばくことによって、自分自身を罪に定めている。さばくあなたも、同じことを行っているからである。
2 We know that the judgment of God is according to truth against those who practice such things. 2 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things. 2:2 わたしたちは、神のさばきが、このような事を行う者どもの上に正しく下ることを、知っている。
3 Do you think this, O man who judges those who practice such things, and do the same, that you will escape the judgment of God? 3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? 2:3 ああ、このような事を行う者どもをさばきながら、しかも自ら同じことを行う人よ。あなたは、神のさばきをのがれうると思うのか。
4 Or do you despise the riches of his goodness, forbearance, and patience, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? 4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? 2:4 それとも、神の慈愛があなたを悔改めに導くことも知らないで、その慈愛と忍耐と寛容との富を軽んじるのか。
5 But according to your hardness and unrepentant heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath, revelation, and of the righteous judgment of God; 5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; 2:5 あなたのかたくなな、悔改めのない心のゆえに、あなたは、神の正しいさばきの現れる怒りの日のために神の怒りを、自分の身に積んでいるのである。
6 who "will pay back to everyone according to their works:" 6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds: 2:6 神は、おのおのに、そのわざにしたがって報いられる。
7 to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory, honor, and incorruptibility, eternal life; 7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: 2:7 すなわち、一方では、耐え忍んで善を行って、光栄とほまれと朽ちぬものとを求める人に、永遠のいのちが与えられ、
8 but to those who are self-seeking, and don't obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, will be wrath and indignation, 8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, 2:8 他方では、党派心をいだき、真理に従わないで不義に従う人に、怒りと激しい憤りとが加えられる。
9 oppression and anguish, on every soul of man who works evil, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; 2:9 悪を行うすべての人には、ユダヤ人をはじめギリシヤ人にも、患難と苦悩とが与えられ、
10 But glory, honor, and peace go to every man who works good, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: 2:10 善を行うすべての人には、ユダヤ人をはじめギリシヤ人にも、光栄とほまれと平安とが与えられる。
11 For there is no partiality with God. 11 For there is no respect of persons with God. 2:11 なぜなら、神には、かたより見ることがないからである。
12 For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without the law. As many as have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. 12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law; 2:12 そのわけは、律法なしに罪を犯した者は、また律法なしに滅び、律法のもとで罪を犯した者は、律法によってさばかれる。
13 For it isn't the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law will be justified 13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. 2:13 なぜなら、律法を聞く者が、神の前に義なるものではなく、律法を行う者が、義とされるからである。
14 (for when Gentiles who don't have the law do by nature the things of the law, these, not having the law, are a law to themselves, 14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: 2:14 すなわち、律法を持たない異邦人が、自然のままで、律法の命じる事を行うなら、たとい律法を持たなくても、彼らにとっては自分自身が律法なのである。
15 in that they show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience testifying with them, and their thoughts among themselves accusing or else excusing them) 15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;) 2:15 彼らは律法の要求がその心にしるされていることを現し、そのことを彼らの良心も共にあかしをして、その判断が互にあるいは訴え、あるいは弁明し合うのである。
16 in the day when God will judge the secrets of men, according to my Good News, by Jesus Christ. 16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel. 2:16 そして、これらのことは、わたしの福音によれば、神がキリスト・イエスによって人々の隠れた事がらをさばかれるその日に、明らかにされるであろう。
17 Indeed you bear the name of a Jew, and rest on the law, and glory in God, 17 Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God, 2:17 もしあなたが、自らユダヤ人と称し、律法に安んじ、神を誇とし、
18 and know his will, and approve the things that are excellent, being instructed out of the law, 18 And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law; 2:18 御旨を知り、律法に教えられて、なすべきことをわきまえており、
19 and are confident that you yourself are a guide of the blind, a light to those who are in darkness, 19 And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness, 2:19
20 a corrector of the foolish, a teacher of babies, having in the law the form of knowledge and of the truth. 20 An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law. 2:20 さらに、知識と真理とが律法の中に形をとっているとして、自ら盲人の手引き、やみにおる者の光、愚かな者の導き手、幼な子の教師をもって任じているのなら、
21 You therefore who teach another, don't you teach yourself? You who preach that a man shouldn't steal, do you steal? 21 Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal? 2:21 なぜ、人を教えて自分を教えないのか。盗むなと人に説いて、自らは盗むのか。
22 You who say a man shouldn't commit adultery. Do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? 22 Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege? 2:22 姦淫するなと言って、自らは姦淫するのか。偶像を忌みきらいながら、自らは宮の物をかすめるのか。
23 You who glory in the law, through your disobedience of the law do you dishonor God? 23 Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God? 2:23 律法を誇としながら、自らは律法に違反して、神を侮っているのか。
24 For "the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you," just as it is written. 24 For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written. 2:24 聖書に書いてあるとおり、「神の御名は、あなたがたのゆえに、異邦人の間で汚されている」。
25 For circumcision indeed profits, if you are a doer of the law, but if you are a transgressor of the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision. 25 For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keep the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision. 2:25 もし、あなたが律法を行うなら、なるほど、割礼は役に立とう。しかし、もし律法を犯すなら、あなたの割礼は無割礼となってしまう。
26 If therefore the uncircumcised keep the ordinances of the law, won't his uncircumcision be accounted as circumcision? 26 Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision? 2:26 だから、もし無割礼の者が律法の規定を守るなら、その無割礼は割礼と見なされるではないか。
27 Won't the uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfills the law, judge you, who with the letter andcircumcision are a transgressor of the law? 27 And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfil the law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law? 2:27 かつ、生れながら無割礼の者であって律法を全うする者は、律法の文字と割礼とを持ちながら律法を犯しているあなたを、さばくのである。
28 For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, neither is that circumcision which is outward in the flesh; 28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: 2:28 というのは、外見上のユダヤ人がユダヤ人ではなく、また、外見上の肉における割礼が割礼でもない。
29 but he is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit not in the letter; whose praise is not from men, but from God. 29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God. 2:29 かえって、隠れたユダヤ人がユダヤ人であり、また、文字によらず霊による心の割礼こそ割礼であって、そのほまれは人からではなく、神から来るのである。

1 Then what advantage does the Jew have? Or what is the profit of circumcision? 1 What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision? 3:1 では、ユダヤ人のすぐれている点は何か。また割礼の益は何か。
2 Much in every way! Because first of all, they were entrusted with the oracles of God. 2 Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God. 3:2 それは、いろいろの点で数多くある。まず第一に、神の言が彼らにゆだねられたことである。
3 For what if some were without faith? Will their lack of faith nullify the faithfulness of God? 3 For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? 3:3 すると、どうなるのか。もし、彼らのうちに不真実の者があったとしたら、その不真実によって、神の真実は無になるであろうか。
4 May it never be! Yes, let God be found true, but every man a liar. As it is written, "That you might be justified in your words, and might prevail when you come into judgment." 4 God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. 3:4 断じてそうではない。あらゆる人を偽り者としても、神を真実なものとすべきである。それは、「あなたが言葉を述べるときは、義とせられ、あなたがさばきを受けるとき、勝利を得るため」と書いてあるとおりである。
5 But if our unrighteousness commends the righteousness of God, what will we say? Is God unrighteous who inflicts wrath? I speak like men do. 5 But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who taketh vengeance? (I speak as a man) 3:5 しかし、もしわたしたちの不義が、神の義を明らかにするとしたら、なんと言うべきか。怒りを下す神は、不義であると言うのか(これは人間的な言い方ではある)。
6 May it never be! For then how will God judge the world? 6 God forbid: for then how shall God judge the world? 3:6 断じてそうではない。もしそうであったら、神はこの世を、どうさばかれるだろうか。
7 For if the truth of God through my lie abounded to his glory, why am I also still judged as a sinner? 7 For if the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory; why yet am I also judged as a sinner? 3:7 しかし、もし神の真実が、わたしの偽りによりいっそう明らかにされて、神の栄光となるなら、どうして、わたしはなおも罪人としてさばかれるのだろうか。
8 Why not (as we are slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say), "Let us do evil, that good may come?" Those who say so are justly condemned. 8 And not rather, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just. 3:8 むしろ、「善をきたらせるために、わたしたちは悪をしようではないか」(わたしたちがそう言っていると、ある人々はそしっている)。彼らが罰せられるのは当然である。
9 What then? Are we better than they? No, in no way. For we previously warned both Jews and Greeks, that they are all under sin. 9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; 3:9 すると、どうなるのか。わたしたちには何かまさったところがあるのか。絶対にない。ユダヤ人もギリシヤ人も、ことごとく罪の下にあることを、わたしたちはすでに指摘した。
10 As it is written, "There is no one righteous; no, not one. 10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 3:10 次のように書いてある、「義人はいない、ひとりもいない。
11 There is no one who understands. There is no one who seeks after God. 11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 3:11 悟りのある人はいない、神を求める人はいない。

20 Because by the works of the law, no flesh will be justified in his sight. For through the law comes the knowledge of sin. 20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. 3:20 なぜなら、律法を行うことによっては、すべての人間は神の前に義とせられないからである。律法によっては、罪の自覚が生じるのみである。
21 But now apart from the law, a righteousness of God has been revealed, being testified by the law and the prophets; 21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 3:21 しかし今や、神の義が、律法とは別に、しかも律法と預言者とによってあかしされて、現された。
22 even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ to all and on all those who believe. For there is no distinction, 22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: 3:22 それは、イエス・キリストを信じる信仰による神の義であって、すべて信じる人に与えられるものである。そこにはなんらの差別もない。
23 for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God; 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 3:23 すなわち、すべての人は罪を犯したため、神の栄光を受けられなくなっており、

26 to demonstrate his righteousness at this present time; that he might himself be just, and the justifier of him who has faith in Jesus. 26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. 3:26 それは、今の時に、神の義を示すためであった。こうして、神みずからが義となり、さらに、イエスを信じる者を義とされるのである。
27 Where then is the boasting? It is excluded. By what manner of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith. 27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. 3:27 すると、どこにわたしたちの誇があるのか。全くない。なんの法則によってか。行いの法則によってか。そうではなく、信仰の法則によってである。
28 We maintain therefore that a man is justified by faith apart from the works of the law. 28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. 3:28 わたしたちは、こう思う。人が義とされるのは、律法の行いによるのではなく、信仰によるのである。
29 Or is God the God of Jews only? Isn't he the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also, 29 Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also: 3:29 それとも、神はユダヤ人だけの神であろうか。また、異邦人の神であるのではないか。確かに、異邦人の神でもある。
30 since indeed there is one God who will justify the circumcised by faith, and the uncircumcised through faith. 30 Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith. 3:30 まことに、神は唯一であって、割礼のある者を信仰によって義とし、また、無割礼の者をも信仰のゆえに義とされるのである。
31 Do we then nullify the law through faith? May it never be! No, we establish the law. 31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law. 3:31 すると、信仰のゆえに、わたしたちは律法を無効にするのであるか。断じてそうではない。かえって、それによって律法を確立するのである。

1 What then will we say that Abraham, our forefather, has found according to the flesh? 1 What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found? 4:1 それでは、肉によるわたしたちの先祖アブラハムの場合については、なんと言ったらよいか。
2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not toward God. 2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. 4:2 もしアブラハムが、その行いによって義とされたのであれば、彼は誇ることができよう。しかし、神のみまえでは、できない。
3 For what does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness." 3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. 4:3 なぜなら、聖書はなんと言っているか、「アブラハムは神を信じた。それによって、彼は義と認められた」とある。
4 Now to him who works, the reward is not counted as grace, but as something owed. 4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. 4:4 いったい、働く人に対する報酬は、恩恵としてではなく、当然の支払いとして認められる。
5 But to him who doesn't work, but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness. 5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. 4:5 しかし、働きはなくても、不信心な者を義とするかたを信じる人は、その信仰が義と認められるのである。
6 Even as David also pronounces blessing on the man to whom God counts righteousness apart from works, 6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, 4:6 ダビデもまた、行いがなくても神に義と認められた人の幸福について、次のように言っている、
7 "Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, whose sins are covered. 7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. 4:7 「不法をゆるされ、罪をおおわれた人たちは、さいわいである。
8 Blessed is the man whom the Lord will by no means charge with sin." 8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin. 4:8 罪を主に認められない人は、さいわいである」。
9 Is this blessing then pronounced on the circumcised, or on the uncircumcised also? For we say that faith was accounted to Abraham for righteousness. 9 Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness. 4:9 さて、この幸福は、割礼の者だけが受けるのか。それとも、無割礼の者にも及ぶのか。わたしたちは言う、「アブラハムには、その信仰が義と認められた」のである。
10 How then was it counted? When he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision. 10 How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision. 4:10 それでは、どういう場合にそう認められたのか。割礼を受けてからか、それとも受ける前か。割礼を受けてからではなく、無割礼の時であった。
11 He received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while he was in uncircumcision, that he might be the father of all those who believe, though they might be in uncircumcision, that righteousness might also be accounted to them. 11 And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also: 4:11 そして、アブラハムは割礼というしるしを受けたが、それは、無割礼のままで信仰によって受けた義の証印であって、彼が、無割礼のままで信じて義とされるに至るすべての人の父となり、
12 He is the father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had in uncircumcision. 12 And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised. 4:12 かつ、割礼の者の父となるためなのである。割礼の者というのは、割礼を受けた者ばかりではなく、われらの父アブラハムが無割礼の時に持っていた信仰の足跡を踏む人々をもさすのである。
13 For the promise to Abraham and to his seed that he should be heir of the world wasn't through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. 13 For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. 4:13 なぜなら、世界を相続させるとの約束が、アブラハムとその子孫とに対してなされたのは、律法によるのではなく、信仰の義によるからである。
14 For if those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void, and the promise is made of no effect. 14 For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect: 4:14 もし、律法に立つ人々が相続人であるとすれば、信仰はむなしくなり、約束もまた無効になってしまう。
15 For the law works wrath, for where there is no law, neither is there disobedience. 15 Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression. 4:15 いったい、律法は怒りを招くものであって、律法のないところには違反なるものはない。
16 For this cause it is of faith, that it may be according to grace, to the end that the promise may be sure to all the seed, not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all. 16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, 4:16 このようなわけで、すべては信仰によるのである。それは恵みによるのであって、すべての子孫に、すなわち、律法に立つ者だけにではなく、アブラハムの信仰に従う者にも、この約束が保証されるのである。アブラハムは、神の前で、わたしたちすべての者の父であって、
17 As it is written, "I have made you a father of many nations." This is in the presence of him whom he believed: God, who gives life to the dead, and calls the things that are not, as though they were. 17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. 4:17 「わたしは、あなたを立てて多くの国民の父とした」と書いてあるとおりである。彼はこの神、すなわち、死人を生かし、無から有を呼び出される神を信じたのである。
18 Who in hope believed against hope, to the end that he might become a father of many nations, according to that which had been spoken, "So will your seed be." 18 Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. 4:18 彼は望み得ないのに、なおも望みつつ信じた。そのために、「あなたの子孫はこうなるであろう」と言われているとおり、多くの国民の父となったのである。
19 Without being weakened in faith, he didn't consider his own body, already having been worn out, (he being about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah's womb. 19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb: 4:19 すなわち、およそ百歳となって、彼自身のからだが死んだ状態であり、また、サラの胎が不妊であるのを認めながらも、なお彼の信仰は弱らなかった。
20 Yet, looking to the promise of God, he didn't waver through unbelief, but grew strong through faith, giving glory to God, 20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; 4:20 彼は、神の約束を不信仰のゆえに疑うようなことはせず、かえって信仰によって強められ、栄光を神に帰し、
21 and being fully assured that what he had promised, he was also able to perform. 21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. 4:21 神はその約束されたことを、また成就することができると確信した。
22 Therefore it also was "reckoned to him for righteousness." 22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. 4:22 だから、彼は義と認められたのである。
23 Now it was not written that it was accounted to him for his sake alone, 23 Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; 4:23 しかし「義と認められた」と書いてあるのは、アブラハムのためだけではなく、
24 but for our sake also, to whom it will be accounted, who believe in him who raised Jesus, our Lord, from the dead, 24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; 4:24 わたしたちのためでもあって、わたしたちの主イエスを死人の中からよみがえらせたかたを信じるわたしたちも、義と認められるのである。
25 who was delivered up for our trespasses, and was raised for our justification. 25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification. 4:25 主は、わたしたちの罪過のために死に渡され、わたしたちが義とされるために、よみがえらされたのである。

1 Being therefore justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ; 1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 5:1 このように、わたしたちは、信仰によって義とされたのだから、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストにより、神に対して平和を得ている。
2 through whom we also have our access by faith into this grace in which we stand. We rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 5:2 わたしたちは、さらに彼により、いま立っているこの恵みに信仰によって導き入れられ、そして、神の栄光にあずかる希望をもって喜んでいる。
3 Not only this, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering works perseverance; 3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; 5:3 それだけではなく、患難をも喜んでいる。なぜなら、患難は忍耐を生み出し、
4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope: 4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope: 5:4 忍耐は錬達を生み出し、錬達は希望を生み出すことを、知っているからである。
5 and hope doesn't disappoint us, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. 5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. 5:5 そして、希望は失望に終ることはない。なぜなら、わたしたちに賜わっている聖霊によって、神の愛がわたしたちの心に注がれているからである。
6 For while we were yet weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 5:6 わたしたちがまだ弱かったころ、キリストは、時いたって、不信心な者たちのために死んで下さったのである。
7 For one will hardly die for a righteous man. Yet perhaps for a righteous person someone would even dare to die. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 5:7 正しい人のために死ぬ者は、ほとんどいないであろう。善人のためには、進んで死ぬ者もあるいはいるであろう。
8 But God commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 5:8 しかし、まだ罪人であった時、わたしたちのためにキリストが死んで下さったことによって、神はわたしたちに対する愛を示されたのである。
9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we will be saved from God's wrath through him. 9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 5:9 わたしたちは、キリストの血によって今は義とされているのだから、なおさら、彼によって神の怒りから救われるであろう。
10 For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we will be saved by his life. 10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. 5:10 もし、わたしたちが敵であった時でさえ、御子の死によって神との和解を受けたとすれば、和解を受けている今は、なおさら、彼のいのちによって救われるであろう。
11 Not only so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation. 11 And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement. 5:11 そればかりではなく、わたしたちは、今や和解を得させて下さったわたしたちの主イエス・キリストによって、神を喜ぶのである。
12 Therefore, as sin entered into the world through one man, and death through sin; and so death passed to all men, because all sinned. 12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: 5:12 このようなわけで、ひとりの人によって、罪がこの世にはいり、また罪によって死がはいってきたように、こうして、すべての人が罪を犯したので、死が全人類にはいり込んだのである。
13 For until the law, sin was in the world; but sin is not charged when there is no law. 13 (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. 5:13 というのは、律法以前にも罪は世にあったが、律法がなければ、罪は罪として認められないのである。
14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those whose sins weren't like Adam's disobedience, who is a foreshadowing of him who was to come. 14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. 5:14 しかし、アダムからモーセまでの間においても、アダムの違反と同じような罪を犯さなかった者も、死の支配を免れなかった。このアダムは、きたるべき者の型である。
15 But the free gift isn't like the trespass. For if by the trespass of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God, and the gift by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many. 15 But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. 5:15 しかし、恵みの賜物は罪過の場合とは異なっている。すなわち、もしひとりの罪過のために多くの人が死んだとすれば、まして、神の恵みと、ひとりの人イエス・キリストの恵みによる賜物とは、さらに豊かに多くの人々に満ちあふれたはずではないか。
16 The gift is not as through one who sinned: for the judgment came by one to condemnation, but the free gift came of many trespasses to justification. 16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. 5:16 かつ、この賜物は、ひとりの犯した罪の結果とは異なっている。なぜなら、さばきの場合は、ひとりの罪過から、罪に定めることになったが、恵みの場合には、多くの人の罪過から、義とする結果になるからである。
17 For if by the trespass of the one, death reigned through the one; so much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, Jesus Christ. 17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) 5:17 もし、ひとりの罪過によって、そのひとりをとおして死が支配するに至ったとすれば、まして、あふれるばかりの恵みと義の賜物とを受けている者たちは、ひとりのイエス・キリストをとおし、いのちにあって、さらに力強く支配するはずではないか。
18 So then as through one trespass, all men were condemned; even so through one act of righteousness, all men were justified to life. 18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. 5:18 このようなわけで、ひとりの罪過によってすべての人が罪に定められたように、ひとりの義なる行為によって、いのちを得させる義がすべての人に及ぶのである。
19 For as through the one man's disobedience many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the one, many will be made righteous. 19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. 5:19 すなわち、ひとりの人の不従順によって、多くの人が罪人とされたと同じように、ひとりの従順によって、多くの人が義人とされるのである。
20 The law came in besides, that the trespass might abound; but where sin abounded, grace abounded more exceedingly; 20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: 5:20 律法がはいり込んできたのは、罪過の増し加わるためである。しかし、罪の増し加わったところには、恵みもますます満ちあふれた。
21 that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. 21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord. 5:21 それは、罪が死によって支配するに至ったように、恵みもまた義によって支配し、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストにより、永遠のいのちを得させるためである。

1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 6:1 では、わたしたちは、なんと言おうか。恵みが増し加わるために、罪にとどまるべきであろうか。
2 May it never be! We who died to sin, how could we live in it any longer? 2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? 6:2 断じてそうではない。罪に対して死んだわたしたちが、どうして、なお、その中に生きておれるだろうか。
3 Or don't you know that all we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 6:3 それとも、あなたがたは知らないのか。キリスト・イエスにあずかるバプテスマを受けたわたしたちは、彼の死にあずかるバプテスマを受けたのである。
4 We were buried therefore with him through baptism to death, that just like Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life. 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 6:4 すなわち、わたしたちは、その死にあずかるバプテスマによって、彼と共に葬られたのである。それは、キリストが父の栄光によって、死人の中からよみがえらされたように、わたしたちもまた、新しいいのちに生きるためである。
5 For if we have become united with him in the likeness of his death, we will also be part of his resurrection; 5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 6:5 もしわたしたちが、彼に結びついてその死の様にひとしくなるなら、さらに、彼の復活の様にもひとしくなるであろう。
6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be in bondage to sin. 6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 6:6 わたしたちは、この事を知っている。わたしたちの内の古き人はキリストと共に十字架につけられた。それは、この罪のからだが滅び、わたしたちがもはや、罪の奴隷となることがないためである。
7 For he who has died has been freed from sin. 7 For he that is dead is freed from sin. 6:7 それは、すでに死んだ者は、罪から解放されているからである。
8 But if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him; 8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: 6:8 もしわたしたちが、キリストと共に死んだなら、また彼と共に生きることを信じる。
9 knowing that Christ, being raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no more has dominion over him! 9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 6:9 キリストは死人の中からよみがえらされて、もはや死ぬことがなく、死はもはや彼を支配しないことを、知っているからである。
10 For the death that he died, he died to sin one time; but the life that he lives, he lives to God. 10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. 6:10 なぜなら、キリストが死んだのは、ただ一度罪に対して死んだのであり、キリストが生きるのは、神に生きるのだからである。
11 Thus consider yourselves also to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. 11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. 6:11 このように、あなたがた自身も、罪に対して死んだ者であり、キリスト・イエスにあって神に生きている者であることを、認むべきである。
12 Therefore don't let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. 12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. 6:12 だから、あなたがたの死ぬべきからだを罪の支配にゆだねて、その情欲に従わせることをせず、
13 Neither present your members to sin as instruments of unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God, as alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. 13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. 6:13 また、あなたがたの肢体を不義の武器として罪にささげてはならない。むしろ、死人の中から生かされた者として、自分自身を神にささげ、自分の肢体を義の武器として神にささげるがよい。
14 For sin will not have dominion over you. For you are not under law, but under grace. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. 6:14 なぜなら、あなたがたは律法の下にあるのではなく、恵みの下にあるので、罪に支配されることはないからである。
15 What then? Shall we sin, because we are not under law, but under grace? May it never be! 15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. 6:15 それでは、どうなのか。律法の下にではなく、恵みの下にあるからといって、わたしたちは罪を犯すべきであろうか。断じてそうではない。
16 Don't you know that to whom you present yourselves as servants to obedience, his servants you are whom you obey; whether of sin to death, or of obedience to righteousness? 16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? 6:16 あなたがたは知らないのか。あなたがた自身が、だれかの僕になって服従するなら、あなたがたは自分の服従するその者の僕であって、死に至る罪の僕ともなり、あるいは、義にいたる従順の僕ともなるのである。
17 But thanks be to God, that, whereas you were bondservants of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching whereunto you were delivered. 17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. 6:17 しかし、神は感謝すべきかな。あなたがたは罪の僕であったが、伝えられた教の基準に心から服従して、
18 Being made free from sin, you became bondservants of righteousness. 18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. 6:18 罪から解放され、義の僕となった。
19 I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh, for as you presented your members as servants to uncleanness and to wickedness upon wickedness, even so now present your members as servants to righteousness for sanctification. 19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. 6:19 わたしは人間的な言い方をするが、それは、あなたがたの肉の弱さのゆえである。あなたがたは、かつて自分の肢体を汚れと不法との僕としてささげて不法に陥ったように、今や自分の肢体を義の僕としてささげて、きよくならねばならない。
20 For when you were servants of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. 20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. 6:20 あなたがたが罪の僕であった時は、義とは縁のない者であった。
21 What fruit then did you have at that time in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. 21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. 6:21 その時あなたがたは、どんな実を結んだのか。それは、今では恥とするようなものであった。それらのものの終極は、死である。
22 But now, being made free from sin, and having become servants of God, you have your fruit of sanctification, and the result of eternal life. 22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. 6:22 しかし今や、あなたがたは罪から解放されて神に仕え、きよきに至る実を結んでいる。その終極は永遠のいのちである。

1 Or don't you know,brothers (for I speak to men who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man for as long as he lives? 1 Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth? 7:1 それとも、兄弟たちよ。あなたがたは知らないのか。わたしは律法を知っている人々に語るのであるが、律法は人をその生きている期間だけ支配するものである。
2 For the woman that has a husband is bound by law to the husband while he lives, but if the husband dies, she is discharged from the law of the husband. 2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. 7:2 すなわち、夫のある女は、夫が生きている間は、律法によって彼につながれている。しかし、夫が死ねば、夫の律法から解放される。
3 So then if, while the husband lives, she is joined to another man, she would be called an adulteress. But if the husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is no adulteress, though she is joined to another man. 3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man. 7:3 であるから、夫の生存中に他の男に行けば、その女は淫婦と呼ばれるが、もし夫が死ねば、その律法から解かれるので、他の男に行っても、淫婦とはならない。
4 Therefore, my brothers, you also were made dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you would be joined to another, to him who was raised from the dead, that we might bring forth fruit to God. 4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God. 7:4 わたしの兄弟たちよ。このように、あなたがたも、キリストのからだをとおして、律法に対して死んだのである。それは、あなたがたが他の人、すなわち、死人の中からよみがえられたかたのものとなり、こうして、わたしたちが神のために実を結ぶに至るためなのである。
5 For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were through the law, worked in our members to bring forth fruit to death. 5 For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death. 7:5 というのは、わたしたちが肉にあった時には、律法による罪の欲情が、死のために実を結ばせようとして、わたしたちの肢体のうちに働いていた。
6 But now we have been discharged from the law, having died to that in which we were held; so that we serve in newness of the spirit, and not in oldness of the letter. 6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter. 7:6 しかし今は、わたしたちをつないでいたものに対して死んだので、わたしたちは律法から解放され、その結果、古い文字によってではなく、新しい霊によって仕えているのである。
7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? May it never be! However, I wouldn't have known sin, except through the law. For I wouldn't have known coveting, unless the law had said, "You shall not covet." 7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. 7:7 それでは、わたしたちは、なんと言おうか。律法は罪なのか。断じてそうではない。しかし、律法によらなければ、わたしは罪を知らなかったであろう。すなわち、もし律法が「むさぼるな」と言わなかったら、わたしはむさぼりなるものを知らなかったであろう。
8 But sin, finding occasion through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of coveting. For apart from the law, sin is dead. 8 But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead. 7:8 しかるに、罪は戒めによって機会を捕え、わたしの内に働いて、あらゆるむさぼりを起させた。すなわち、律法がなかったら、罪は死んでいるのである。
9 I was alive apart from the law once, but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died. 9 For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died. 7:9 わたしはかつては、律法なしに生きていたが、戒めが来るに及んで、罪は生き返り、
10 The commandment, which was for life, this I found to be for death; 10 And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death. 7:10 わたしは死んだ。そして、いのちに導くべき戒めそのものが、かえってわたしを死に導いて行くことがわかった。
11 for sin, finding occasion through the commandment, deceived me, and through it killed me. 11 For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me. 7:11 なぜなら、罪は戒めによって機会を捕え、わたしを欺き、戒めによってわたしを殺したからである。
12 Therefore the law indeed is holy, and the commandment holy, and righteous, and good. 12 Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good. 7:12 このようなわけで、律法そのものは聖なるものであり、戒めも聖であって、正しく、かつ善なるものである。
13 Did then that which is good become death to me? May it never be! But sin, that it might be shown to be sin, by working death to me through that which is good; that through the commandment sin might become exceeding sinful. 13 Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful. 7:13 では、善なるものが、わたしにとって死となったのか。断じてそうではない。それはむしろ、罪の罪たることが現れるための、罪のしわざである。すなわち、罪は、戒めによって、はなはだしく悪性なものとなるために、善なるものによってわたしを死に至らせたのである。
14 For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am fleshly, sold under sin. 14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. 7:14 わたしたちは、律法は霊的なものであると知っている。しかし、わたしは肉につける者であって、罪の下に売られているのである。
15 For I don't know what I am doing. For I don't practice what I desire to do; but what I hate, that I do. 15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. 7:15 わたしは自分のしていることが、わからない。なぜなら、わたしは自分の欲する事は行わず、かえって自分の憎む事をしているからである。
16 But if what I don't desire, that I do, I consent to the law that it is good. 16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. 7:16 もし、自分の欲しない事をしているとすれば、わたしは律法が良いものであることを承認していることになる。
17 So now it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me. 17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 7:17 そこで、この事をしているのは、もはやわたしではなく、わたしの内に宿っている罪である。
18 For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing. For desire is present with me, but I don't find it doing that which is good. 18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. 7:18 わたしの内に、すなわち、わたしの肉の内には、善なるものが宿っていないことを、わたしは知っている。なぜなら、善をしようとする意志は、自分にあるが、それをする力がないからである。
19 For the good which I desire, I don't do; but the evil which I don't desire, that I practice. 19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. 7:19 すなわち、わたしの欲している善はしないで、欲していない悪は、これを行っている。
20 But if what I don't desire, that I do, it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me. 20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 7:20 もし、欲しないことをしているとすれば、それをしているのは、もはやわたしではなく、わたしの内に宿っている罪である。
21 I find then the law, that, to me, while I desire to do good, evil is present. 21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. 7:21 そこで、善をしようと欲しているわたしに、悪がはいり込んでいるという法則があるのを見る。
22 For I delight in God's law after the inward man, 22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: 7:22 すなわち、わたしは、内なる人としては神の律法を喜んでいるが、
23 but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity under the law of sin which is in my members. 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 7:23 わたしの肢体には別の律法があって、わたしの心の法則に対して戦いをいどみ、そして、肢体に存在する罪の法則の中に、わたしをとりこにしているのを見る。
24 What a wretched man I am! Who will deliver me out of the body of this death? 24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? 7:24 わたしは、なんというみじめな人間なのだろう。だれが、この死のからだから、わたしを救ってくれるだろうか。
25 I thank God through Jesus Christ, our Lord! So then with the mind, I myself serve God's law, but with the flesh, the sin's law. 25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. 7:25 わたしたちの主イエス・キリストによって、神は感謝すべきかな。このようにして、わたし自身は、心では神の律法に仕えているが、肉では罪の律法に仕えているのである。

1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who don't walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 8:1 こういうわけで、今やキリスト・イエスにある者は罪に定められることがない。
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made me free from the law of sin and of death. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. 8:2 なぜなら、キリスト・イエスにあるいのちの御霊の法則は、罪と死との法則からあなたを解放したからである。
3 For what the law couldn't do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God did, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh; 3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: 8:3 律法が肉により無力になっているためになし得なかった事を、神はなし遂げて下さった。すなわち、御子を、罪の肉の様で罪のためにつかわし、肉において罪を罰せられたのである。
4 that the ordinance of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 8:4 これは律法の要求が、肉によらず霊によって歩くわたしたちにおいて、満たされるためである。
5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 8:5 なぜなら、肉に従う者は肉のことを思い、霊に従う者は霊のことを思うからである。
6 For the mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace; 6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 8:6 肉の思いは死であるが、霊の思いは、いのちと平安とである。
7 because the mind of the flesh is hostile towards God; for it is not subject to God's law, neither indeed can it be. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8:7 なぜなら、肉の思いは神に敵するからである。すなわち、それは神の律法に従わず、否、従い得ないのである。
8 Those who are in the flesh can't please God. 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. 8:8 また、肉にある者は、神を喜ばせることができない。
9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if it is so that the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if any man doesn't have the Spirit of Christ, he is not his. 9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. 8:9 しかし、神の御霊があなたがたの内に宿っているなら、あなたがたは肉におるのではなく、霊におるのである。もし、キリストの霊を持たない人がいるなら、その人はキリストのものではない。
10 If Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the spirit is alive because of righteousness. 10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 8:10 もし、キリストがあなたがたの内におられるなら、からだは罪のゆえに死んでいても、霊は義のゆえに生きているのである。
11 But if the Spirit of him who raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised up Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you. 11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. 8:11 もし、イエスを死人の中からよみがえらせたかたの御霊が、あなたがたの内に宿っているなら、キリスト・イエスを死人の中からよみがえらせたかたは、あなたがたの内に宿っている御霊によって、あなたがたの死ぬべきからだをも、生かしてくださるであろう。
12 So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. 12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. 8:12 それゆえに、兄弟たちよ。わたしたちは、果すべき責任を負っている者であるが、肉に従って生きる責任を肉に対して負っているのではない。
13 For if you live after the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 8:13 なぜなら、もし、肉に従って生きるなら、あなたがたは死ぬ外はないからである。しかし、霊によってからだの働きを殺すなら、あなたがたは生きるであろう。
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 8:14 すべて神の御霊に導かれている者は、すなわち、神の子である。
15 For you didn't receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, "Abba! Father!" 15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 8:15 あなたがたは再び恐れをいだかせる奴隷の霊を受けたのではなく、子たる身分を授ける霊を受けたのである。その霊によって、わたしたちは「アバ、父よ」と呼ぶのである。
16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God; 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 8:16 御霊みずから、わたしたちの霊と共に、わたしたちが神の子であることをあかしして下さる。
17 and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ; if indeed we suffer with him, that we may also be glorified with him. 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. 8:17 もし子であれば、相続人でもある。神の相続人であって、キリストと栄光を共にするために苦難をも共にしている以上、キリストと共同の相続人なのである。
18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which will be revealed toward us. 18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 8:18 わたしは思う。今のこの時の苦しみは、やがてわたしたちに現されようとする栄光に比べると、言うに足りない。
19 For the creation waits with eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. 19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. 8:19 被造物は、実に、切なる思いで神の子たちの出現を待ち望んでいる。
20 For the creation was subjected to vanity, not of its own will, but because of him who subjected it, in hope 20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, 8:20 なぜなら、被造物が虚無に服したのは、自分の意志によるのではなく、服従させたかたによるのであり、
21 that the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of decay into the liberty of the glory of the children of God. 21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. 8:21 かつ、被造物自身にも、滅びのなわめから解放されて、神の子たちの栄光の自由に入る望みが残されているからである。
22 For we know that the whole creation groans and travails in pain together until now. 22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. 8:22 実に、被造物全体が、今に至るまで、共にうめき共に産みの苦しみを続けていることを、わたしたちは知っている。
23 Not only so, but ourselves also, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for adoption, the redemption of our body. 23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body. 8:23 それだけではなく、御霊の最初の実を持っているわたしたち自身も、心の内でうめきながら、子たる身分を授けられること、すなわち、からだのあがなわれることを待ち望んでいる。
24 For we were saved in hope, but hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for that which he sees? 24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? 8:24 わたしたちは、この望みによって救われているのである。しかし、目に見える望みは望みではない。なぜなら、現に見ている事を、どうして、なお望む人があろうか。
25 But if we hope for that which we don't see, we wait for it with patience. 25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. 8:25 もし、わたしたちが見ないことを望むなら、わたしたちは忍耐して、それを待ち望むのである。
26 In the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don't know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can't be uttered. 26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 8:26 御霊もまた同じように、弱いわたしたちを助けて下さる。なぜなら、わたしたちはどう祈ったらよいかわからないが、御霊みずから、言葉にあらわせない切なるうめきをもって、わたしたちのためにとりなして下さるからである。
27 He who searches the hearts knows what is on the Spirit's mind, because he makes intercession for the saints according to God. 27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. 8:27 そして、人の心を探り知るかたは、御霊の思うところがなんであるかを知っておられる。なぜなら、御霊は、聖徒のために、神の御旨にかなうとりなしをして下さるからである。
28 We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. 28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. 8:28 神は、神を愛する者たち、すなわち、ご計画に従って召された者たちと共に働いて、万事を益となるようにして下さることを、わたしたちは知っている。
29 For whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 8:29 神はあらかじめ知っておられる者たちを、更に御子のかたちに似たものとしようとして、あらかじめ定めて下さった。それは、御子を多くの兄弟の中で長子とならせるためであった。
30 Whom he predestined, those he also called. Whom he called, those he also justified. Whom he justified, those he also glorified. 30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. 8:30 そして、あらかじめ定めた者たちを更に召し、召した者たちを更に義とし、義とした者たちには、更に栄光を与えて下さったのである。
31 What then shall we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? 8:31 それでは、これらの事について、なんと言おうか。もし、神がわたしたちの味方であるなら、だれがわたしたちに敵し得ようか。
32 He who didn't spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how would he not also with him freely give us all things? 32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? 8:32 ご自身の御子をさえ惜しまないで、わたしたちすべての者のために死に渡されたかたが、どうして、御子のみならず万物をも賜わらないことがあろうか。
33 Who could bring a charge against God's chosen ones? It is God who justifies. 33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. 8:33 だれが、神の選ばれた者たちを訴えるのか。神は彼らを義とされるのである。
34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, yes rather, who was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. 34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. 8:34 だれが、わたしたちを罪に定めるのか。キリスト・イエスは、死んで、否、よみがえって、神の右に座し、また、わたしたちのためにとりなして下さるのである。
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Could oppression, or anguish, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 8:35 だれが、キリストの愛からわたしたちを離れさせるのか。患難か、苦悩か、迫害か、飢えか、裸か、危難か、剣か。
36 Even as it is written, "For your sake we are killed all day long. We were accounted as sheep for the slaughter." 36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 8:36 「わたしたちはあなたのために終日、死に定められており、ほふられる羊のように見られている」と書いてあるとおりである。
37 No, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 8:37 しかし、わたしたちを愛して下さったかたによって、わたしたちは、これらすべての事において勝ち得て余りがある。

1 I tell the truth in Christ. I am not lying, my conscience testifying with me in the Holy Spirit, 1 I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost, 9:1 わたしはキリストにあって真実を語る。偽りは言わない。わたしの良心も聖霊によって、わたしにこうあかしをしている。
2 that I have great sorrow and unceasing pain in my heart. 2 That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart. 9:2 すなわち、わたしに大きな悲しみがあり、わたしの心に絶えざる痛みがある。
3 For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my brothers' sake, my relatives according to the flesh, 3 For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh: 9:3 実際、わたしの兄弟、肉による同族のためなら、わたしのこの身がのろわれて、キリストから離されてもいとわない。

6 But it is not as though the word of God has come to nothing. For they are not all Israel, that are of Israel. 6 Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel: 9:6 しかし、神の言が無効になったというわけではない。なぜなら、イスラエルから出た者が全部イスラエルなのではなく、
7 Neither, because they are Abraham's seed, are they all children. But, "In Isaac will your seed be called." 7 Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. 9:7 また、アブラハムの子孫だからといって、その全部が子であるのではないからである。かえって「イサクから出る者が、あなたの子孫と呼ばれるであろう」。
8 That is, it is not the children of the flesh who are children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as a seed. 8 That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed. 9:8 すなわち、肉の子がそのまま神の子なのではなく、むしろ約束の子が子孫として認められるのである。
9 For this is a word of promise, "At the appointed time I will come, and Sarah will have a son." 9 For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sarah shall have a son. 9:9 約束の言葉はこうである。「来年の今ごろ、わたしはまた来る。そして、サラに男子が与えられるであろう」。
10 Not only so, but Rebecca also conceived by one, by our father Isaac. 10 And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac; 9:10 そればかりではなく、ひとりの人、すなわち、わたしたちの父祖イサクによって受胎したリベカの場合も、また同様である。
11 For being not yet born, neither having done anything good or bad, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him who calls, 11 (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;) 9:11 まだ子供らが生れもせず、善も悪もしない先に、神の選びの計画が、
12 it was said to her, "The elder will serve the younger." 12 It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger. 9:12 わざによらず、召したかたによって行われるために、「兄は弟に仕えるであろう」と、彼女に仰せられたのである。
13 Even as it is written, "Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated." 13 As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. 9:13 「わたしはヤコブを愛しエサウを憎んだ」と書いてあるとおりである。
14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? May it never be! 14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid. 9:14 では、わたしたちはなんと言おうか。神の側に不正があるのか。断じてそうではない。
15 For he said to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion." 15 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. 9:15 神はモーセに言われた、「わたしは自分のあわれもうとする者をあわれみ、いつくしもうとする者を、いつくしむ」。
16 So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who has mercy. 16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy. 9:16 ゆえに、それは人間の意志や努力によるのではなく、ただ神のあわれみによるのである。
17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, "For this very purpose I caused you to be raised up, that I might show in you my power, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth." 17 For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth. 9:17 聖書はパロにこう言っている、「わたしがあなたを立てたのは、この事のためである。すなわち、あなたによってわたしの力をあらわし、また、わたしの名が全世界に言いひろめられるためである」。
18 So then, he has mercy on whom he desires, and he hardens whom he desires. 18 Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth. 9:18 だから、神はそのあわれもうと思う者をあわれみ、かたくなにしようと思う者を、かたくなになさるのである。
19 You will say then to me, "Why does he still find fault? For who withstands his will?" 19 Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will? 9:19 そこで、あなたは言うであろう、「なぜ神は、なおも人を責められるのか。だれが、神の意図に逆らい得ようか」。
20 But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed ask him who formed it, "Why did you make me like this?" 20 Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? 9:20 ああ人よ。あなたは、神に言い逆らうとは、いったい、何者なのか。造られたものが造った者に向かって、「なぜ、わたしをこのように造ったのか」と言うことがあろうか。
21 Or hasn't the potter a right over the clay, from the same lump to make one part a vessel for honor, and another for dishonor? 21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour? 9:21 陶器を造る者は、同じ土くれから、一つを尊い器に、他を卑しい器に造りあげる権能がないのであろうか。
22 What if God, willing to show his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath made for destruction, 22 What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: 9:22 もし、神が怒りをあらわし、かつ、ご自身の力を知らせようと思われつつも、滅びることになっている怒りの器を、大いなる寛容をもって忍ばれたとすれば、
23 and that he might make known the riches of his glory on vessels of mercy, which he prepared beforehand for glory, 23 And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory, 9:23 かつ、栄光にあずからせるために、あらかじめ用意されたあわれみの器にご自身の栄光の富を知らせようとされたとすれば、どうであろうか。
24 us, whom he also called, not from the Jews only, but also from the Gentiles? 24 Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles? 9:24 神は、このあわれみの器として、またわたしたちをも、ユダヤ人の中からだけではなく、異邦人の中からも召されたのである。
25 As he says also in Hosea, "I will call them 'my people,' which were not my people; and her 'beloved,' who was not beloved." 25 As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved. 9:25 それは、ホセアの書でも言われているとおりである、「わたしは、わたしの民でない者を、わたしの民と呼び、愛されなかった者を、愛される者と呼ぶであろう。
26 "It will be that in the place where it was said to them, 'You are not my people, 'There they will be called 'children of the living God.'" 26 And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God. 9:26 あなたがたはわたしの民ではないと、彼らに言ったその場所で、彼らは生ける神の子らであると、呼ばれるであろう」。
27 Isaiah cries concerning Israel, "If the number of the children of Israel are as the sand of the sea, it is the remnant who will be saved; 27 Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved: 9:27 また、イザヤはイスラエルについて叫んでいる、「たとい、イスラエルの子らの数は、浜の砂のようであっても、救われるのは、残された者だけであろう。
28 for He will finish the work and cut it short in righteousness, because the LORD will make a short work upon the earth." 28 For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth. 9:28 主は、御言をきびしくまたすみやかに、地上になしとげられるであろう」。
29 As Isaiah has said before, "Unless the Lord of Armies had left us a seed, we would have become like Sodom, and would have been made like Gomorrah." 29 And as Esaias said before, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodoma, and been made like unto Gomorrha. 9:29 さらに、イザヤは預言した、「もし、万軍の主がわたしたちに子孫を残されなかったなら、わたしたちはソドムのようになり、ゴモラと同じようになったであろう」。
30 What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, who didn't follow after righteousness, attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith; 30 What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith. 9:30 では、わたしたちはなんと言おうか。義を追い求めなかった異邦人は、義、すなわち、信仰による義を得た。
31 but Israel, following after a law of righteousness, didn't arrive at the law of righteousness. 31 But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness. 9:31 しかし、義の律法を追い求めていたイスラエルは、その律法に達しなかった。
32 Why? Because they didn't seek it by faith, but as it were by works of the law. They stumbled over the stumbling stone; 32 Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone; 9:32 なぜであるか。信仰によらないで、行いによって得られるかのように、追い求めたからである。彼らは、つまずきの石につまずいたのである。
33 even as it is written, "Behold, I lay in Zion a stumbling stone and a rock of offense; and no one who believes in him will be disappointed." 33 As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 9:33 「見よ、わたしはシオンに、つまずきの石、さまたげの岩を置く。それにより頼む者は、失望に終ることがない」と書いてあるとおりである。

1 Brothers, my heart's desire and my prayer to God is for Israel, that they may be saved. 1 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. 10:1 兄弟たちよ。わたしの心の願い、彼らのために神にささげる祈は、彼らが救われることである。
2 For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. 2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. 10:2 わたしは、彼らが神に対して熱心であることはあかしするが、その熱心は深い知識によるものではない。
3 For being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, they didn't subject themselves to the righteousness of God. 3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. 10:3 なぜなら、彼らは神の義を知らないで、自分の義を立てようと努め、神の義に従わなかったからである。
4 For Christ is thefulfillment of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. 10:4 キリストは、すべて信じる者に義を得させるために、律法の終りとなられたのである。
5 For Moses writes about the righteousness of the law, "The one who does them will live by them." 5 For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them. 10:5 モーセは、律法による義を行う人は、その義によって生きる、と書いている。
6 But the righteousness which is of faith says this, "Don't say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?' (that is, to bring Christ down); 6 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:) 10:6 しかし、信仰による義は、こう言っている、「あなたは心のうちで、だれが天に上るであろうかと言うな」。それは、キリストを引き降ろすことである。
7 or, 'Who will descend into the abyss?' (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead.)" 7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) 10:7 また、「だれが底知れぬ所に下るであろうかと言うな」。それは、キリストを死人の中から引き上げることである。
8 But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth, and in your heart;" that is, the word of faith, which we preach: 8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 10:8 では、なんと言っているか。「言葉はあなたの近くにある。あなたの口にあり、心にある」。この言葉とは、わたしたちが宣べ伝えている信仰の言葉である。
9 that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10:9 すなわち、自分の口で、イエスは主であると告白し、自分の心で、神が死人の中からイエスをよみがえらせたと信じるなら、あなたは救われる。
10 For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 10:10 なぜなら、人は心に信じて義とされ、口で告白して救われるからである。
11 For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes in him will not be disappointed." 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 10:11 聖書は、「すべて彼を信じる者は、失望に終ることがない」と言っている。
12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, and is rich to all who call on him. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 10:12 ユダヤ人とギリシヤ人との差別はない。同一の主が万民の主であって、彼を呼び求めるすべての人を豊かに恵んで下さるからである。
13 For, "Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved." 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 10:13 なぜなら、「主の御名を呼び求める者は、すべて救われる」とあるからである。
14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in him whom they have not heard? How will they hear without a preacher? 14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 10:14 しかし、信じたことのない者を、どうして呼び求めることがあろうか。聞いたことのない者を、どうして信じることがあろうか。宣べ伝える者がいなくては、どうして聞くことがあろうか。
15 And how will they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the Good News of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!" 15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! 10:15 つかわされなくては、どうして宣べ伝えることがあろうか。「ああ、麗しいかな、良きおとずれを告げる者の足は」と書いてあるとおりである。
16 But they didn't all listen to the glad news. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed our report?" 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? 10:16 しかし、すべての人が福音に聞き従ったのではない。イザヤは、「主よ、だれがわたしたちから聞いたことを信じましたか」と言っている。
17 So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. 17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. 10:17 したがって、信仰は聞くことによるのであり、聞くことはキリストの言葉から来るのである。
18 But I say, didn't they hear? Yes, most certainly, "Their sound went out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world." 18 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world. 10:18 しかしわたしは言う、彼らには聞えなかったのであろうか。否、むしろ「その声は全地にひびきわたり、その言葉は世界のはてにまで及んだ」。
19 But I ask, didn't Israel know? First Moses says, "I will provoke you to jealousy with that which is no nation, with a nation void of understanding I will make you angry." 19 But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you. 10:19 なお、わたしは言う、イスラエルは知らなかったのであろうか。まずモーセは言っている、「わたしはあなたがたに、国民でない者に対してねたみを起させ、無知な国民に対して、怒りをいだかせるであろう」。
20 Isaiah is very bold, and says, "I was found by those who didn't seek me. I was revealed to those who didn't ask for me." 20 But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me. 10:20 イザヤも大胆に言っている、「わたしは、わたしを求めない者たちに見いだされ、わたしを尋ねない者に、自分を現した」。
21 But as to Israel he says, "All day long I stretched out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people." 21 But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people. 10:21 そして、イスラエルについては、「わたしは服従せずに反抗する民に、終日わたしの手をさし伸べていた」と言っている。

1 I ask then, did God reject his people? May it never be! For I also am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. 1 I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. 11:1 そこで、わたしは問う、「神はその民を捨てたのであろうか」。断じてそうではない。わたしもイスラエル人であり、アブラハムの子孫、ベニヤミン族の者である。
2 God didn't reject his people, which he foreknew. Or don't you know what the Scripture says about Elijah? How he pleads with God against Israel: 2 God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel saying, 11:2 神は、あらかじめ知っておられたその民を、捨てることはされなかった。聖書がエリヤについてなんと言っているか、あなたがたは知らないのか。すなわち、彼はイスラエルを神に訴えてこう言った。
3 "Lord, they have killed your prophets, they have broken down your altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life." 3 Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life. 11:3 「主よ、彼らはあなたの預言者たちを殺し、あなたの祭壇をこぼち、そして、わたしひとりが取り残されたのに、彼らはわたしのいのちをも求めています」。
4 But how does God answer him? "I have reserved for myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to Baal." 4 But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal. 11:4 しかし、彼に対する御告げはなんであったか、「バアルにひざをかがめなかった七千人を、わたしのために残しておいた」。
5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. 5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. 11:5 それと同じように、今の時にも、恵みの選びによって残された者がいる。
6 And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work. 11:6 しかし、恵みによるのであれば、もはや行いによるのではない。そうでないと、恵みはもはや恵みでなくなるからである。
7 What then? That which Israel seeks for, that he didn't obtain, but the chosen ones obtained it, and the rest were hardened. 7 What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded. 11:7 では、どうなるのか。イスラエルはその追い求めているものを得ないで、ただ選ばれた者が、それを得た。そして、他の者たちはかたくなになった。
8 According as it is written, "God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear, to this very day." 8 (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day. 11:8 「神は、彼らに鈍い心と、見えない目と、聞えない耳とを与えて、きょう、この日に及んでいる」と書いてあるとおりである。
9 David says, "Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, a stumbling block, and a retribution to them. 9 And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them: 11:9 ダビデもまた言っている、「彼らの食卓は、彼らのわなとなれ、網となれ、つまずきとなれ、報復となれ。
10 Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see. Bow down their back always." 10 Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, and bow down their back alway. 11:10 彼らの目は、くらんで見えなくなれ、彼らの背は、いつまでも曲っておれ」。
11 I ask then, did they stumble that they might fall? May it never be! But by their fall salvation has come to the Gentiles, to provoke them to jealousy. 11 I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy. 11:11 そこで、わたしは問う、「彼らがつまずいたのは、倒れるためであったのか」。断じてそうではない。かえって、彼らの罪過によって、救が異邦人に及び、それによってイスラエルを奮起させるためである。

15 For if the rejection of them is the reconciling of the world, what would their acceptance be, but life from the dead? 15 For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead? 11:15 もし彼らの捨てられたことが世の和解となったとすれば、彼らの受けいれられることは、死人の中から生き返ることではないか。
16 If the first fruit is holy, so is the lump. If the root is holy, so are the branches. 16 For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches. 11:16 もし、麦粉の初穂がきよければ、そのかたまりもきよい。もし根がきよければ、その枝もきよい。
17 But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them, and became partaker with them of the root and of the richness of the olive tree; 17 And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree; 11:17 しかし、もしある枝が切り去られて、野生のオリブであるあなたがそれにつがれ、オリブの根の豊かな養分にあずかっているとすれば、
18 don't boast over the branches. But if you boast, it is not you who support the root, but the root supports you. 18 Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee. 11:18 あなたはその枝に対して誇ってはならない。たとえ誇るとしても、あなたが根をささえているのではなく、根があなたをささえているのである。
19 You will say then, "Branches were broken off, that I might be grafted in." 19 Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in. 11:19 すると、あなたは、「枝が切り去られたのは、わたしがつがれるためであった」と言うであろう。
20 True; by their unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by your faith. Don't be conceited, but fear; 20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear: 11:20 まさに、そのとおりである。彼らは不信仰のゆえに切り去られ、あなたは信仰のゆえに立っているのである。高ぶった思いをいだかないで、むしろ恐れなさい。
21 for if God didn't spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you. 21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. 11:21 もし神が元木の枝を惜しまなかったとすれば、あなたを惜しむようなことはないであろう。
22 See then the goodness and severity of God. Toward those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in his goodness; otherwise you also will be cut off. 22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. 11:22 神の慈愛と峻厳とを見よ。神の峻厳は倒れた者たちに向けられ、神の慈愛は、もしあなたがその慈愛にとどまっているなら、あなたに向けられる。そうでないと、あなたも切り取られるであろう。
23 They also, if they don't continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. 23 And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again. 11:23 しかし彼らも、不信仰を続けなければ、つがれるであろう。神には彼らを再びつぐ力がある。
24 For if you were cut out of that which is by nature a wild olive tree, and were grafted contrary to nature into a good olive tree, how much more will these, which are the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree? 24 For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree? 11:24 なぜなら、もしあなたが自然のままの野生のオリブから切り取られ、自然の性質に反して良いオリブにつがれたとすれば、まして、これら自然のままの良い枝は、もっとたやすく、元のオリブにつがれないであろうか。
25 For I don't desire you to be ignorant,brothers, of this mystery, so that you won't be wise in your own conceits, that a partial hardening has happened to Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in, 25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. 11:25 兄弟たちよ。あなたがたが知者だと自負することのないために、この奥義を知らないでいてもらいたくない。一部のイスラエル人がかたくなになったのは、異邦人が全部救われるに至る時までのことであって、
26 and so all Israel will be saved. 33 Oh the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and the knowledge of God! 34 "For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?" 34 For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counseller? 11:34 「だれが、主の心を知っていたか。だれが、主の計画にあずかったか。
35 "Or who has first given to him, and it will be repaid to him again?" 35 Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? 11:35 また、だれが、まず主に与えて、その報いを受けるであろうか」。

1 Therefore I urge you, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service. 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 12:1 兄弟たちよ。そういうわけで、神のあわれみによってあなたがたに勧める。あなたがたのからだを、神に喜ばれる、生きた、聖なる供え物としてささげなさい。それが、あなたがたのなすべき霊的な礼拝である。
2 Don't be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. 12:2 あなたがたは、この世と妥協してはならない。むしろ、心を新たにすることによって、造りかえられ、何が神の御旨であるか、何が善であって、神に喜ばれ、かつ全きことであるかを、わきまえ知るべきである。

10 In love of the brothers be tenderly affectionate one to another; in honor preferring one another; 10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; 12:10 兄弟の愛をもって互にいつくしみ、進んで互に尊敬し合いなさい。
11 not lagging in diligence; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; 11 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; 12:11 熱心で、うむことなく、霊に燃え、主に仕え、
12 rejoicing in hope; enduring in troubles; continuing steadfastly in prayer; 12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; 12:12 望みをいだいて喜び、患難に耐え、常に祈りなさい。
13 contributing to the needs of the saints; given to hospitality. 13 Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. 12:13 貧しい聖徒を助け、努めて旅人をもてなしなさい。
14 Bless those who persecute you; bless, and don't curse. 14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not. 12:14 あなたがたを迫害する者を祝福しなさい。祝福して、のろってはならない。

16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Don't set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Don't be wise in your own conceits. 16 Be of the same mind one toward another. 17 Repay no one evil for evil. Respect what is honorable in the sight of all men. 17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. 12:17 だれに対しても悪をもって悪に報いず、すべての人に対して善を図りなさい。
18 If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. 18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. 12:18 あなたがたは、できる限りすべての人と平和に過ごしなさい。
19 Don't seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, "Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord." 19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. 12:19 愛する者たちよ。自分で復讐をしないで、むしろ、神の怒りに任せなさい。なぜなら、「主が言われる。復讐はわたしのすることである。わたし自身が報復する」と書いてあるからである。
20 Therefore "If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing so, you will heap coals of fire on his head." 20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. 12:20 むしろ、「もしあなたの敵が飢えるなら、彼に食わせ、かわくなら、彼に飲ませなさい。そうすることによって、あなたは彼の頭に燃えさかる炭火を積むことになるのである」。

1 Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God. 1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. 13:1 すべての人は、上に立つ権威に従うべきである。なぜなら、神によらない権威はなく、おおよそ存在している権威は、すべて神によって立てられたものだからである。
2 Therefore he who resists the authority, withstands the ordinance of God; and those who withstand will receive to themselves judgment. 2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. 13:2 したがって、権威に逆らう者は、神の定めにそむく者である。そむく者は、自分の身にさばきを招くことになる。
3 For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. Do you desire to have no fear of the authority? Do that which is good, and you will have praise from the same, 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: 13:3 いったい、支配者たちは、善事をする者には恐怖でなく、悪事をする者にこそ恐怖である。あなたは権威を恐れないことを願うのか。それでは、善事をするがよい。そうすれば、彼からほめられるであろう。
4 for he is a servant of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid, for he doesn't bear the sword in vain; for he is a servant of God, an avenger for wrath to him who does evil. 4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. 13:4 彼は、あなたに益を与えるための神の僕なのである。しかし、もしあなたが悪事をすれば、恐れなければならない。彼はいたずらに剣を帯びているのではない。彼は神の僕であって、悪事を行う者に対しては、怒りをもって報いるからである。
5 Therefore you need to be in subjection, not only because of the wrath, but also for conscience' sake. 5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. 13:5 だから、ただ怒りをのがれるためだけではなく、良心のためにも従うべきである。
6 For this reason you also pay taxes, for they are servants of God's service, attending continually on this very thing. 6 For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. 13:6 あなたがたが貢を納めるのも、また同じ理由からである。彼らは神に仕える者として、もっぱらこの務に携わっているのである。
7 Give therefore to everyone what you owe: taxes to whom taxes are due; customs to whom customs; respect to whom respect; honor to whom honor. 7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. 13:7 あなたがたは、彼らすべてに対して、義務を果しなさい。すなわち、貢を納むべき者には貢を納め、税を納むべき者には税を納め、恐るべき者は恐れ、敬うべき者は敬いなさい。
8 Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. 8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. 13:8 互に愛し合うことの外は、何人にも借りがあってはならない。人を愛する者は、律法を全うするのである。
9 For the commandments, "You shall not commit adultery," "You shall not murder," "You shall not steal," "You shall not give false testimony," "You shall not covet," and whatever other commandments there are, are all summed up in this saying, namely, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." 9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 13:9 「姦淫するな、殺すな、盗むな、むさぼるな」など、そのほかに、どんな戒めがあっても、結局「自分を愛するようにあなたの隣り人を愛せよ」というこの言葉に帰する。
10 Love doesn't harm a neighbor. Love therefore is the fulfillment of the law. 10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. 13:10 愛は隣り人に害を加えることはない。だから、愛は律法を完成するものである。
11 Do this, knowing the time, that it is already time for you to awaken out of sleep, for salvation is now nearer to us than when we first believed. 11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. 13:11 なお、あなたがたは時を知っているのだから、特に、この事を励まねばならない。すなわち、あなたがたの眠りからさめるべき時が、すでにきている。なぜなら今は、わたしたちの救が、初め信じた時よりも、もっと近づいているからである。
12 The night is far gone, and the day is near. Let's therefore throw off the works of darkness, and let's put on the armor of light. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. 13:12 夜はふけ、日が近づいている。それだから、わたしたちは、やみのわざを捨てて、光の武具を着けようではないか。
13 Let us walk properly, as in the day; not in reveling and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and lustful acts, and not in strife and jealousy. 13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. 13:13 そして、宴楽と泥酔、淫乱と好色、争いとねたみを捨てて、昼歩くように、つつましく歩こうではないか。
14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, for its lusts. 14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. 13:14 あなたがたは、主イエス・キリストを着なさい。肉の欲を満たすことに心を向けてはならない。

1 Now accept one who is weak in faith, but not for disputes over opinions. 1 Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. 14:1 信仰の弱い者を受けいれなさい。ただ、意見を批評するためであってはならない。
2 One man has faith to eat all things, but he who is weak eats only vegetables. 2 For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs. 14:2 ある人は、何を食べてもさしつかえないと信じているが、弱い人は野菜だけを食べる。
3 Don't let him who eats despise him who doesn't eat. Don't let him who doesn't eat judge him who eats, for God has accepted him. 3 Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him. 14:3 食べる者は食べない者を軽んじてはならず、食べない者も食べる者をさばいてはならない。神は彼を受けいれて下さったのであるから。
4 Who are you who judge another's servant? To his own lord he stands or falls. Yes, he will be made to stand, for God has power to make him stand. 4 Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand. 14:4 他人の僕をさばくあなたは、いったい、何者であるか。彼が立つのも倒れるのも、その主人によるのである。しかし、彼は立つようになる。主は彼を立たせることができるからである。
5 One man esteems one day as more important. Another esteems every day alike. Let each man be fully assured in his own mind. 5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. 14:5 また、ある人は、この日がかの日よりも大事であると考え、ほかの人はどの日も同じだと考える。各自はそれぞれ心の中で、確信を持っておるべきである。
6 He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks. He who doesn't eat, to the Lord he doesn't eat, and gives God thanks. 6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks. 14:6 日を重んじる者は、主のために重んじる。また食べる者も主のために食べる。神に感謝して食べるからである。食べない者も主のために食べない。そして、神に感謝する。
7 For none of us lives to himself, and none dies to himself. 7 For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself. 14:7 すなわち、わたしたちのうち、だれひとり自分のために生きる者はなく、だれひとり自分のために死ぬ者はない。
8 For if we live, we live to the Lord. Or if we die, we die to the Lord. If therefore we live or die, we are the Lord's. 8 For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's. 14:8 わたしたちは、生きるのも主のために生き、死ぬのも主のために死ぬ。だから、生きるにしても死ぬにしても、わたしたちは主のものなのである。
9 For to this end Christ died, rose, and lived again, that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living. 9 For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living. 14:9 なぜなら、キリストは、死者と生者との主となるために、死んで生き返られたからである。
10 But you, why do you judge your brother? Or you again, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. 10 But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. 14:10 それだのに、あなたは、なぜ兄弟をさばくのか。あなたは、なぜ兄弟を軽んじるのか。わたしたちはみな、神のさばきの座の前に立つのである。
11 For it is written, "'As I live,' says the Lord, 'to me every knee will bow. Every tongue will confess to God.'" 11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. 14:11 すなわち、「主が言われる。わたしは生きている。すべてのひざは、わたしに対してかがみ、すべての舌は、神にさんびをささげるであろう」と書いてある。

14 I know, and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean of itself; except that to him who considers anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean. 14 I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean. 14:14 わたしは、主イエスにあって知りかつ確信している。それ自体、汚れているものは一つもない。ただ、それが汚れていると考える人にだけ、汚れているのである。
15 Yet if because of food your brother is grieved, you walk no longer in love. Don't destroy with your food him for whom Christ died. 15 But if thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died. 14:15 もし食物のゆえに兄弟を苦しめるなら、あなたは、もはや愛によって歩いているのではない。あなたの食物によって、兄弟を滅ぼしてはならない。キリストは彼のためにも、死なれたのである。
16 Then don't let your good be slandered, 16 Let not then your good be evil spoken of: 14:16 それだから、あなたがたにとって良い事が、そしりの種にならぬようにしなさい。
17 for the Kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. 17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. 14:17 神の国は飲食ではなく、義と、平和と、聖霊における喜びとである。
18 For he who serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God and approved by men. 18 For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men. 14:18 こうしてキリストに仕える者は、神に喜ばれ、かつ、人にも受けいれられるのである。
19 So then, let us follow after things which make for peace, and things by which we may build one another up. 19 Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another. 14:19 こういうわけで、平和に役立つことや、互の徳を高めることを、追い求めようではないか。
20 Don't overthrow God's work for food's sake. All things indeed are clean, however it is evil for that man who creates a stumbling block by eating. 20 For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence. 14:20 食物のことで、神のみわざを破壊してはならない。すべての物はきよい。ただ、それを食べて人をつまずかせる者には、悪となる。
21 It is good to not eat meat, drink wine, nor do anything by which your brother stumbles, is offended, or is made weak. 21 It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak. 14:21 肉を食わず、酒を飲まず、そのほか兄弟をつまずかせないのは、良いことである。
22 Do you have faith? Have it to yourself before God. Happy is he who doesn't judge himself in that which he approves. 22 Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth. 14:22 あなたの持っている信仰を、神のみまえに、自分自身に持っていなさい。自ら良いと定めたことについて、やましいと思わない人は、さいわいである。
23 But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because it isn't of faith; and whatever is not of faith is sin. 23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin. 14:23 しかし、疑いながら食べる者は、信仰によらないから、罪に定められる。すべて信仰によらないことは、罪である。

1 Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of the weak, and not to please ourselves. 1 We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. 15:1 わたしたち強い者は、強くない者たちの弱さをになうべきであって、自分だけを喜ばせることをしてはならない。
2 Let each one of us please his neighbor for that which is good, to be building him up. 2 Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification. 15:2 わたしたちひとりびとりは、隣り人の徳を高めるために、その益を図って彼らを喜ばすべきである。
3 For even Christ didn't please himself. But, as it is written, "The reproaches of those who reproached you fell on me." 3 For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me. 15:3 キリストさえ、ご自身を喜ばせることはなさらなかった。むしろ「あなたをそしる者のそしりが、わたしに降りかかった」と書いてあるとおりであった。
4 For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that through patience and through encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. 4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. 15:4 これまでに書かれた事がらは、すべてわたしたちの教のために書かれたのであって、それは聖書の与える忍耐と慰めとによって、望みをいだかせるためである。
5 Now the God of patience and of encouragement grant you to be of the same mind one with another according to Christ Jesus, 5 Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus: 15:5 どうか、忍耐と慰めとの神が、あなたがたに、キリスト・イエスにならって互に同じ思いをいだかせ、
6 that with one accord you may with one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. 6 That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15:6 こうして、心を一つにし、声を合わせて、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの父なる神をあがめさせて下さるように。
7 Therefore accept one another, even as Christ also accepted you, to the glory of God. 7 Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God. 15:7 こういうわけで、キリストもわたしたちを受けいれて下さったように、あなたがたも互に受けいれて、神の栄光をあらわすべきである。
8 Now I say that Christ has been made a servant of the circumcision for the truth of God, that he might confirm the promises given to the fathers, 8 Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers: 15:8 わたしは言う、キリストは神の真実を明らかにするために、割礼のある者の僕となられた。それは父祖たちの受けた約束を保証すると共に、
9 and that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written, "Therefore will I give praise to you among the Gentiles, and sing to your name." 9 And that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will confess to thee among the Gentiles, and sing unto thy name. 15:9 異邦人もあわれみを受けて神をあがめるようになるためである、「それゆえ、わたしは、異邦人の中であなたにさんびをささげ、また、御名をほめ歌う」と書いてあるとおりである。
10 Again he says, "Rejoice, you Gentiles, with his people." 10 And again he saith, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people. 15:10 また、こう言っている、「異邦人よ、主の民と共に喜べ」。
11 Again, "Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles! Let all the peoples praise him." 11 And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; and laud him, all ye people. 15:11 また、「すべての異邦人よ、主をほめまつれ。もろもろの民よ、主をほめたたえよ」。
12 Again, Isaiah says, "There will be the root of Jesse, he who arises to rule over the Gentiles; in him the Gentiles will hope." 12 And again, Esaias saith, There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust. 15:12 またイザヤは言っている、「エッサイの根から芽が出て、異邦人を治めるために立ち上がる者が来る。異邦人は彼に望みをおくであろう」。

15 But I write the more boldly to you in part, as reminding you, because of the grace that was given to me by God, 15 Nevertheless, brethren, I have written the more boldly unto you in some sort, as putting you in mind, because of the grace that is given to me of God, 15:15 しかし、わたしはあなたがたの記憶を新たにするために、ところどころ、かなり思いきって書いた。それは、神からわたしに賜わった恵みによって、書いたのである。
16 that I should be a servant of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles, serving as a priest the Good News of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be made acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit. 16 That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost. 15:16 このように恵みを受けたのは、わたしが異邦人のためにキリスト・イエスに仕える者となり、神の福音のために祭司の役を勤め、こうして異邦人を、聖霊によってきよめられた、御旨にかなうささげ物とするためである。
17 I have therefore my boasting in Christ Jesus in things pertaining to God. 17 I have therefore whereof I may glory through Jesus Christ in those things which pertain to God. 15:17 だから、わたしは神への奉仕については、キリスト・イエスにあって誇りうるのである。
18 For I will not dare to speak of any things except those which Christ worked through me, for the obedience of the Gentiles, by word and deed, 18 For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ hath not wrought by me, to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed, 15:18 わたしは、異邦人を従順にするために、キリストがわたしを用いて、言葉とわざ、
19 in the power of signs and wonders, in the power of God's Spirit; so that from Jerusalem, and around as far as to Illyricum, I have fully preached the Good News of Christ; 19 Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ. 15:19 しるしと不思議との力、聖霊の力によって、働かせて下さったことの外には、あえて何も語ろうとは思わない。こうして、わたしはエルサレムから始まり、巡りめぐってイルリコに至るまで、キリストの福音を満たしてきた。
20 yes, making it my aim to preach the Good News, not where Christ was already named, that I might not build on another's foundation. 20 Yea, so have I strived to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another man's foundation: 15:20 その際、わたしの切に望んだところは、他人の土台の上に建てることをしないで、キリストの御名がまだ唱えられていない所に福音を宣べ伝えることであった。
21 But, as it is written, "They will see, to whom no news of him came. They who haven't heard will understand." 21 But as it is written, To whom he was not spoken of, they shall see: and they that have not heard shall understand. 15:21 すなわち、「彼のことを宣べ伝えられていなかった人々が見、聞いていなかった人々が悟るであろう」と書いてあるとおりである。
22 Therefore also I was hindered these many times from coming to you, 22 For which cause also I have been much hindered from coming to you. 15:22 こういうわけで、わたしはあなたがたの所に行くことを、たびたび妨げられてきた。
23 but now, no longer having any place in these regions, and having these many years a longing to come to you, 23 But now having no more place in these parts, and having a great desire these many years to come unto you; 15:23 しかし今では、この地方にはもはや働く余地がなく、かつイスパニヤに赴く場合、あなたがたの所に行くことを、多年、熱望していたので、―
24 whenever I journey to Spain, I will come to you. For I hope to see you on my journey, and to be helped on my way there by you, if first I may enjoy your company for a while. 24 Whensoever I take my journey into Spain, I will come to you: for I trust to see you in my journey, and to be brought on my way thitherward by you, if first I be somewhat filled with your company. 15:24 その途中あなたがたに会い、まず幾分でもわたしの願いがあなたがたによって満たされたら、あなたがたに送られてそこへ行くことを、望んでいるのである。
25 But now, I say, I am going to Jerusalem, serving the saints. 25 But now I go unto Jerusalem to minister unto the saints. 15:25 しかし今の場合、聖徒たちに仕えるために、わたしはエルサレムに行こうとしている。
26 For it has been the good pleasure of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor among the saints who are at Jerusalem. 26 For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem. 15:26 なぜなら、マケドニヤとアカヤとの人々は、エルサレムにおる聖徒の中の貧しい人々を援助することに賛成したからである。
27 Yes, it has been their good pleasure, and they are their debtors. For if the Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, they owe it to them also to serve them in fleshly things. 27 It hath pleased them verily; and their debtors they are. For if the Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, their duty is also to minister unto them in carnal things. 15:27 たしかに、彼らは賛成した。しかし同時に、彼らはかの人々に負債がある。というのは、もし異邦人が彼らの霊の物にあずかったとすれば、肉の物をもって彼らに仕えるのは、当然だからである。

30 Now I beg you, brothers, by our Lord Jesus Christ, and by the love of the Spirit, that you strive together with me in your prayers to God for me, 30 Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me; 15:30 兄弟たちよ。わたしたちの主イエス・キリストにより、かつ御霊の愛によって、あなたがたにお願いする。どうか、共に力をつくして、わたしのために神に祈ってほしい。
31 that I may be delivered from those who are disobedient in Judea, and that my service which I have for Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints; 31 That I may be delivered from them that do not believe in Judaea; and that my service which I have for Jerusalem may be accepted of the saints; 15:31 すなわち、わたしがユダヤにおる不信の徒から救われ、そしてエルサレムに対するわたしの奉仕が聖徒たちに受けいれられるものとなるように、
32 that I may come to you in joy through the will of God, and together with you, find rest. 32 That I may come unto you with joy by the will of God, and may with you be refreshed. 15:32 また、神の御旨により、喜びをもってあなたがたの所に行き、共になぐさめ合うことができるように祈ってもらいたい。

19 For your obedience has become known to all. I rejoice therefore over you.
