1:2 “I have loved you,” says Yahweh. Yet you say, “How have you loved us?” “Wasn’t Esau Jacob’s brother?” says Yahweh, “Yet I loved Jacob; 2 I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? 1:4 Whereas Edom says, “We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places;” thus says Yahweh of Armies, “They shall build, but I will throw down; and men will call them ‘The Wicked Land,’ even the people against whom Yahweh shows wrath forever.” 4 Whereas Edom saith, We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places; thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and, The people against whom the LORD hath indignation for ever. 4 もしエドムが「われわれは滅ぼされたけれども、荒れた所を再び建てる」と言うならば、万軍の主は「彼らは建てるかもしれない。しかしわたしはそれを倒す。人々は、彼らを悪しき国ととなえ、とこしえに主の怒りをうける民ととなえる」と言われる。
1:5 Your eyes will see, and you will say, “Yahweh is great—even beyond the border of Israel!” 5 And your eyes shall see, and ye shall say, The LORD will be magnified from the border of Israel. 5 あなたがたの目はこれを見て、「主はイスラエルの境を越えて大いなる神である」と言うであろう。
1:6 “A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, then where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is the respect due me? Says Yahweh of Armies to you, priests, who despise my name. You say, ‘How have we despised your name?’ 6 A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. 1:7 You offer polluted bread on my altar. You say, ‘How have we polluted you?’ In that you say, ‘Yahweh’s table contemptible.’ 7 Ye offer polluted bread upon mine altar; and ye say, Wherein have we polluted thee? In that ye say, The table of the LORD is contemptible. 7 汚れた食物をわたしの祭壇の上にささげる。またあなたがたは、主の台は卑しむべき物であると考えて、『われわれはどんなふうに、それを汚したか』と言う。
1:8 When you offer the blind for sacrifice, isn’t that evil? And when you offer the lame and sick, isn’t that evil? Present it now to your governor! Will he be pleased with you? Or will he accept your person?” says Yahweh of Armies. 8 And if ye offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? and if ye offer the lame and sick, is it not evil? offer it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? saith the LORD of hosts. 8 あなたがたが盲目の獣を、犠牲にささげるのは悪い事ではないか。また足のなえたもの、病めるものをささげるのは悪い事ではないか。今これをあなたのつかさにささげてみよ。彼はあなたを喜び、あなたを受けいれるであろうかと、万軍の主は言われる。
1:9 “Now, please entreat the favor of God, that he may be gracious to us. With this, will he accept any of you?” says Yahweh of Armies. 9 And now, I pray you, beseech God that he will be gracious unto us: this hath been by your means: will he regard your persons? saith the LORD of hosts. 9 あなたがたは、神がわれわれをあわれまれるように、神の恵みを求めてみよ。このようなあなたがたの手のささげ物をもって、彼はあなたがたを受けいれられるであろうかと、万軍の主は言われる。
1:10 “Oh that there were one among you who would shut the doors, that you might not kindle fire on my altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you,” says Yahweh of Armies, “neither will I accept an offering at your hand. 10 Who is there even among you that would shut the doors for nought? neither do ye kindle fire on mine altar for nought. I have no pleasure in you, saith the LORD of hosts, neither will I accept an offering at your hand. 10 あなたがたがわが祭壇の上にいたずらに、火をたくことのないように戸を閉じる者があなたがたのうちに、ひとりあったらいいのだが。わたしはあなたがたを喜ばない、またあなたがたの手からささげ物を受けないと、万軍の主は言われる。
1:11 For from the rising of the sun even to the going down of the same, my name is great among the nations, and in every place incense will be offered to my name, and a pure offering: for my name is great among the nations,” says Yahweh of Armies. 11 For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen, saith the LORD of hosts. 11 日の出る所から没する所まで、国々のうちにわが名はあがめられている。また、どこでも香と清いささげ物が、わが名のためにささげられる。これはわが名が国々のうちにあがめられているからであると、万軍の主は言われる。
1:12 “But you profane it, in that you say, ‘Yahweh’s table is polluted, and its fruit, even its food, is contemptible.’ 12 But ye have profaned it, in that ye say, The table of the LORD is polluted; and the fruit thereof, even his meat, is contemptible. 12 ところがあなたがたは、主の台は汚れている、またこの食物は卑しむべき物であると言って、これを汚した。
1:13 You say also, ‘Behold, what a weariness it is!’ and you have sniffed at it,” says Yahweh of Armies; “and you have brought that which was taken by violence, the lame, and the sick; thus you bring the offering. Should I accept this at your hand?” says Yahweh. 13 Ye said also, Behold, what a weariness is it! and ye have snuffed at it, saith the LORD of hosts; and ye brought that which was torn, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye brought an offering: should I accept this of your hand? saith the LORD. 13 あなたがたはまた『これはなんと煩わしい事か』と言って、わたしを鼻であしらうと、万軍の主は言われる。あなたがたはまた奪った物、足なえのもの、病めるものを、ささげ物として携えて来る。わたしはそれを、あなたがたの手から、受けるであろうかと主は言われる。
1:14 “But the deceiver is cursed, who has in his flock a male, and vows, and sacrifices to the Lord a blemished thing; for I am a great King,” says Yahweh of Armies, “and my name is awesome among the nations.” 14 But cursed be the deceiver, which hath in his flock a male, and voweth, and sacrificeth unto the LORD a corrupt thing: for I am a great King, saith the LORD of hosts, and my name is dreadful among the heathen. 14 群れのうちに雄の獣があり、それをささげると誓いを立てているのに、傷のあるものを、主にささげる偽り者はのろわれる。わたしは大いなる王で、わが名は国々のうちに恐れられるべきであると、万軍の主は言われる。

2:1 “Now, you priests, this commandment is for you. 1 And now, O ye priests, this commandment is for you. 1 祭司たちよ、今この命令があなたがたに与えられる。
2:2 If you will not listen, and if you will not lay it to heart, to give glory to my name,” says Yahweh of Armies, “then will I send the curse on you, and I will curse your blessings. Indeed, I have cursed them already, because you do not lay it to heart. 2 If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the LORD of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart. 2 万軍の主は言われる、あなたがたがもし聞き従わず、またこれを心に留めず、わが名に栄光を帰さないならば、わたしはあなたがたの上に、のろいを送り、またあなたがたの祝福をのろいに変える。あなたがたは、これを心に留めないので、わたしはすでにこれをのろった。
2:3 Behold, I will rebuke your seed, and will spread dung on your faces, even the dung of your feasts; and you will be taken away with it. 3 Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your solemn feasts; and one shall take you away with it. 3 見よ、わたしはあなたがたの子孫を責める。またあなたがたの犠牲の糞を、あなたがたの顔の上にまき散らし、あなたがたをわたしの前から退ける。
2:4 You will know that I have sent this commandment to you, that my covenant may be with Levi,” says Yahweh of Armies. 4 And ye shall know that I have sent this commandment unto you, that my covenant might be with Levi, saith the LORD of hosts. 4 こうしてわたしが、この命令をあなたがたに与えたのは、レビと結んだわが契約が、保たれるためであることを、あなたがたが知るためであると、万軍の主は言われる。
2:5 “My covenant was with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him who he might be reverent toward me; and he was reverent toward me, and stood in awe of my name. 5 My covenant was with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him for the fear wherewith he feared me, and was afraid before my name. 5 彼と結んだわが契約は、生命と平安との契約であって、わたしがこれを彼に与えたのは、彼にわたしを恐れさせるためである。彼はすでにわたしを恐れ、わが名の前におののいた。
2:6 The law of truth was in his mouth, and unrighteousness was not found in his lips. He walked with me in peace and uprightness, and turned many away from iniquity. 6 The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from iniquity. 6 彼の口には、まことの律法があり、そのくちびるには、不義が見られなかった。彼は平安と公義とをもって、わたしと共に歩み、また多くの人を不義から立ち返らせた。
2:7 For the priest’s lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth; for he is the messenger of Yahweh of Armies. 7 For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts. 7 祭司のくちびるは知識を保ち、人々が彼の口から律法を尋ねるのが当然である。彼は万軍の主の使者だからだ。
2:8 But you have turned aside out of the way. You have caused many to stumble in the law. You have corrupted the covenant of Levi,” says Yahweh of Armies. 8 But ye are departed out of the way; ye have caused many to stumble at the law; ye have corrupted the covenant of Levi, saith the LORD of hosts. 8 ところが、あなたがたは道を離れ、多くの人を教えてつまずかせ、レビの契約を破ったと、万軍の主は言われる。
2:9 “Therefore I have also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according to the way you have not kept my ways, but have had respect for persons in the law. 9 Therefore have I also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according as ye have not kept my ways, but have been partial in the law. 9 あなたがたはわたしの道を守らず、律法を教えるに当って、人にかたよったがために、あなたがたをすべての民の前に侮られ、卑しめられるようにする」。
2:10 Don’t we all have one father? Hasn’t one God created us? Why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, profaning the covenant of our fathers? 10 Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, by profaning the covenant of our fathers? 10 われわれの父は皆一つではないか。われわれを造った神は一つではないか。なにゆえ、われわれは先祖たちの契約を破って、おのおのその兄弟に偽りを行うのか。
2:11 Judah has dealt treacherously, and an abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah has profaned the holiness of Yahweh which he loves, and has married the daughter of a foreign god. 11 Judah hath dealt treacherously, and an abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah hath profaned the holiness of the LORD which he loved, and hath married the daughter of a strange god. 11 ユダは偽りを行い、イスラエルおよびエルサレムの中には憎むべき事が行われた。すなわちユダは主が愛しておられる聖所を汚して、他の神に仕える女をめとった。
2:12 Yahweh will cut off, to the man who does this, him who wakes and him who answers, out of the tents of Jacob, and him who offers an offering to Yahweh of Armies. 12 The LORD will cut off the man that doeth this, the master and the scholar, out of the tabernacles of Jacob, and him that offereth an offering unto the LORD of hosts. 12 どうか、主がこうした事を行う人をば、証言する者も、答弁する者も、また万軍の主にささげ物をする者をも、ヤコブの幕屋から断たれるように。
2:13 This again you do: you cover the altar of Yahweh with tears, with weeping, and with sighing, because he doesn’t regard the offering any more, neither receives it with good will at your hand. 13 And this have ye done again, covering the altar of the LORD with tears, with weeping, and with crying out, insomuch that he regardeth not the offering any more, or receiveth it with good will at your hand. 13 あなたがたはまたこのような事をする。すなわち神がもはやささげ物をかえりみず、またこれをあなたがたの手から、喜んで受けられないために、あなたがたは涙と、泣くことと、嘆きとをもって、主の祭壇をおおい、
2:14 Yet you say, ‘Why?’ Because Yahweh has been witness between you and the wife of your youth, against whom you have dealt treacherously, though she is your companion, and the wife of your covenant. 14 Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant. 14 「なぜ神は受けられないのか」と尋ねる。これは主があなたと、あなたの若い時の妻との間の、契約の証人だったからである。彼女は、あなたの連れ合い、契約によるあなたの妻であるのに、あなたは彼女を裏切った。
2:15 Did he not make one, although he had the residue of the Spirit? Why one? He sought a godly seed. That he might seek a godly seed. 2:16 For I hate divorce,” says Yahweh, the God of Israel, “and him who covers his garment with violence!” says Yahweh of Armies. “Therefore take heed to your spirit, that you don’t deal treacherously. 16 For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously. 16 イスラエルの神、主は言われる、「わたしは離縁する者を憎み、また、しえたげをもってその衣をおおう人を憎むと、万軍の主は言われる。ゆえにみずから慎んで、裏切ることをしてはならない」。
2:17 You have wearied Yahweh with your words. Yet you say, ‘How have we wearied him?’ In that you say, ‘Everyone who does evil is good in the sight of Yahweh, and he delights in them;’ or ‘Where is the God of justice?’ 17 Ye have wearied the LORD with your words. Yet ye say, Wherein have we wearied him? When ye say, Every one that doeth evil is good in the sight of the LORD, and he delighteth in them; or, Where is the God of judgment? 17 あなたがたは言葉をもって主を煩わした。しかしあなたがたは言う、「われわれはどんなふうに、彼を煩わしたか」。それはあなたがたが「すべて悪を行う者は主の目に良く見え、かつ彼に喜ばれる」と言い、また「さばきを行う神はどこにあるか」と言うからである。

3:1 “Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me; and the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, behold, he comes!” says Yahweh of Armies. 1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the LORD, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts. 1 「見よ、わたしはわが使者をつかわす。彼はわたしの前に道を備える。またあなたがたが求める所の主は、たちまちその宮に来る。見よ、あなたがたの喜ぶ契約の使者が来ると、万軍の主が言われる。
3:2 “But who can endure the day of his coming? And who will stand when he appears? For he is like a refiner’s fire, and like launderer’s soap; 2 But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap: 2 その来る日には、だれが耐え得よう。そのあらわれる時には、だれが立ち得よう。彼は金をふきわける者の火のようであり、布さらしの灰汁のようである。
3:3 and he will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi, and refine them as gold and silver; and they shall offer to Yahweh offerings in righteousness. 3 And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness. 3 彼は銀をふきわけて清める者のように座して、レビの子孫を清め、金銀のように彼らを清める。そして彼らは義をもって、ささげ物を主にささげる。
3:4 Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasant to Yahweh, as in the days of old, and as in ancient years. 4 Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant unto the LORD, as in the days of old, and as in former years. 4 その時ユダとエルサレムとのささげ物は、昔の日のように、また先の年のように主に喜ばれる。
3:5 I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against the perjurers, and against those who oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and who deprive the foreigner of justice, and don’t fear me,” says Yahweh of Armies. 5 And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the LORD of hosts. 5 そしてわたしはあなたがたに近づいて、さばきをなし、占い者、姦淫を行う者、偽りの誓いをなす者にむかい、雇人の賃銀をかすめ、やもめと、みなしごとをしえたげ、寄留の他国人を押しのけ、わたしを恐れない者どもにむかって、すみやかにあかしを立てると、万軍の主は言われる。
3:6 “For I, Yahweh, don’t change; therefore you, sons of Jacob, are not consumed. 6 For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. 6 主なるわたしは変ることがない。それゆえ、ヤコブの子らよ、あなたがたは滅ぼされない。
3:7 From the days of your fathers you have turned aside from my ordinances, and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you,” says Yahweh of Armies. “But you say, ‘How shall we return?’ 7 Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return? 7 あなたがたは、その先祖の日から、わが定めを離れて、これを守らなかった。わたしに帰れ、わたしはあなたがたに帰ろうと、万軍の主は言われる。ところが、あなたがたは『われわれはどうして帰ろうか』と尋ねる。
3:8 Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me! But you say, ‘How have we robbed you?’ In tithes and offerings. 8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. 8 人は神の物を盗むことをするだろうか。しかしあなたがたは、わたしの物を盗んでいる。あなたがたはまた『どうしてわれわれは、あなたの物を盗んでいるのか』と言う。十分の一と、ささげ物をもってである。
3:9 You are cursed with the curse; for you rob me, even this whole nation. 9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. 9 あなたがたは、のろいをもって、のろわれる。あなたがたすべての国民は、わたしの物を盗んでいるからである。
3:10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and test me now in this,” says Yahweh of Armies, “if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough for. 10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. 10 わたしの宮に食物のあるように、十分の一全部をわたしの倉に携えてきなさい。これをもってわたしを試み、わたしが天の窓を開いて、あふるる恵みを、あなたがたに注ぐか否かを見なさいと、万軍の主は言われる。
3:11 I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast its fruit before its time in the field,” says Yahweh of Armies. 11 And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts. 11 わたしは食い滅ぼす者を、あなたがたのためにおさえて、あなたがたの地の産物を、滅ぼさないようにしよう。また、あなたがたのぶどうの木が、その熟する前に、その実を畑に落すことのないようにしようと、万軍の主は言われる。
3:12 “All nations shall call you blessed, for you will be a delightful land,” says Yahweh of Armies. 12 And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the LORD of hosts. 12 こうして万国の人は、あなたがたを祝福された者ととなえるであろう。あなたがたは楽しい地となるからであると、万軍の主は言われる。
3:13 “Your words have been stout against me,” says Yahweh. “Yet you say, ‘What have we spoken against you?’ 13 Your words have been stout against me, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, What have we spoken so much against thee? 13 主は言われる、あなたがたは言葉を激しくして、わたしに逆らった。しかもあなたがたは『われわれはあなたに逆らって、どんな事を言ったか』と言う。
3:14 You have said, ‘It is vain to serve God;’ and ‘What profit is it that we have followed his instructions, and that we have walked mournfully before Yahweh of Armies? 14 Ye have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the LORD of hosts? 14 あなたがたは言った、『神に仕える事はつまらない。われわれがその命令を守り、かつ万軍の主の前に、悲しんで歩いたからといって、なんの益があるか。
3:15 Now we call the proud happy; yes, those who work wickedness are built up; yes, they tempt God, and escape.’ 15 And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that tempt God are even delivered. 15 今われわれは高ぶる者を、祝福された者と思う。悪を行う者は栄えるばかりでなく、神を試みても罰せられない』」。
3:16 Then those who feared Yahweh spoke one with another; and Yahweh listened, and heard, and a book of memory was written before him, for those who feared Yahweh, and who honored his name. 16 Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name. 16 そのとき、主を恐れる者は互に語った。主は耳を傾けてこれを聞かれた。そして主を恐れる者、およびその名を心に留めている者のために、主の前に一つの覚え書がしるされた。
3:17 They shall be mine,” says Yahweh of Armies, “my own possession in the day that I make, and I will spare them, as a man spares his own son who serves him. 17 And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him. 17 「万軍の主は言われる、彼らはわたしが手を下して事を行う日に、わたしの者となり、わたしの宝となる。また人が自分に仕える子をあわれむように、わたしは彼らをあわれむ。

4:1 “For, behold, the day comes, it burns as a furnace; and all the proud, and all who work wickedness, will be stubble; and the day that comes will burn them up,” says Yahweh of Armies, “that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. 1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. 1 万軍の主は言われる、見よ、炉のように燃える日が来る。その時すべて高ぶる者と、悪を行う者とは、わらのようになる。その来る日は、彼らを焼き尽して、根も枝も残さない。
4:2 But to you who fear my name shall the sun of righteousness arise with healing in its wings. You will go out, and leap like calves of the stall. 2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. 2 しかしわが名を恐れるあなたがたには、義の太陽がのぼり、その翼には、いやす力を備えている。あなたがたは牛舎から出る子牛のように外に出て、とびはねる。
4:3 You shall tread down the wicked; for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I make,” says Yahweh of Armies. 3 And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts. 3 また、あなたがたは悪人を踏みつけ、わたしが事を行う日に、彼らはあなたがたの足の裏の下にあって、灰のようになると、万軍の主は言われる。
4:4 “Remember the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded to him in Horeb for all Israel, even statutes and ordinances. 4 Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. 4 あなたがたは、わがしもべモーセの律法、すなわちわたしがホレブで、イスラエル全体のために、彼に命じた定めとおきてとを覚えよ。
4:5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and terrible day of Yahweh comes. 5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: 5 見よ、主の大いなる恐るべき日が来る前に、わたしは預言者エリヤをあなたがたにつかわす。
4:6 He will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.” 6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse. 6 彼は父の心をその子供たちに向けさせ、子供たちの心をその父に向けさせる。これはわたしが来て、のろいをもってこの国を撃つことのないようにするためである」。
