1 Paul, an apostle (not from men, neither through man, but through Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead), 1 Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;) 1:1 人々からでもなく、人によってでもなく、イエス・キリストと彼を死人の中からよみがえらせた父なる神とによって立てられた使徒パウロ、

6 I marvel that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ to a different "good news"; 6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 1:6 あなたがたがこんなにも早く、あなたがたをキリストの恵みの内へお招きになったかたから離れて、違った福音に落ちていくことが、わたしには不思議でならない。
7 and there isn't another "good news." Only there are some who trouble you, and want to pervert the Good News of Christ. 7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 1:7 それは福音というべきものではなく、ただ、ある種の人々があなたがたをかき乱し、キリストの福音を曲げようとしているだけのことである。
8 But even though we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you any "good news" other than that which we preached to you, let him be cursed. 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 1:8 しかし、たといわたしたちであろうと、天からの御使であろうと、わたしたちが宣べ伝えた福音に反することをあなたがたに宣べ伝えるなら、その人はのろわるべきである。

10 For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? For if I were still pleasing men, I wouldn't be a servant of Christ. 10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. 1:10 今わたしは、人に喜ばれようとしているのか、それとも、神に喜ばれようとしているのか。あるいは、人の歓心を買おうと努めているのか。もし、今もなお人の歓心を買おうとしているとすれば、わたしはキリストの僕ではあるまい。
11 But I make known to you, brothers, concerning the Good News which was preached by me, that it is not according to man. 11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. 1:11 兄弟たちよ。あなたがたに、はっきり言っておく。わたしが宣べ伝えた福音は人間によるものではない。
12 For neither did I receive it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came to me through revelation of Jesus Christ. 12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ. 1:12 わたしは、それを人間から受けたのでも教えられたのでもなく、ただイエス・キリストの啓示によったのである。

1 Then after a period of fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, taking Titus also with me. 1 Then fourteen years after I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, and took Titus with me also. 2:1 その後十四年たってから、わたしはバルナバと一緒に、テトスをも連れて、再びエルサレムに上った。
2 I went up by revelation, and I laid before them the Good News which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately before those who were respected, for fear that I might be running, or had run, in vain. 2 And I went up by revelation, and communicated unto them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run, in vain. 2:2 そこに上ったのは、啓示によってである。そして、わたしが異邦人の間に宣べ伝えている福音を、人々に示し、「重だった人たち」には個人的に示した。それは、わたしが現に走っており、またすでに走ってきたことが、むだにならないためである。

4 This was because of the false brothers secretly brought in, who stole in to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage; 4 And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage: 2:4 それは、忍び込んできたにせ兄弟らがいたので―彼らが忍び込んできたのは、キリスト・イエスにあって持っているわたしたちの自由をねらって、わたしたちを奴隷にするためであった。
5 to whom we gave no place in the way of subjection, not for an hour, that the truth of the Good News might continue with you. 5 To whom we gave place by subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the gospel might continue with you. 2:5 わたしたちは、福音の真理があなたがたのもとに常にとどまっているように、瞬時も彼らの強要に屈服しなかった。
6 But from those who were reputed to be important (whatever they were, it makes no difference to me; God doesn't show partiality to man)—they, I say, who were respected imparted nothing to me, 6 But of these who seemed to be somewhat, (whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me: God accepteth no man's person:) for they who seemed to be somewhat in conference added nothing to me: 2:6 そして、かの「重だった人たち」からは―彼らがどんな人であったにしても、それは、わたしには全く問題ではない。神は人を分け隔てなさらないのだから―事実、かの「重だった人たち」は、わたしに何も加えることをしなかった。
7 but to the contrary, when they saw that I had been entrusted with the Good News for the uncircumcision, even as Peter with the Good News for the circumcision 7 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter; 2:7 それどころか、彼らは、ペテロが割礼の者への福音をゆだねられているように、わたしには無割礼の者への福音がゆだねられていることを認め、

9 and when they perceived the grace that was given to me, James and Cephas and John, they who were reputed to be pillars, gave to me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship, that we should go to the Gentiles, and they to the circumcision. 9 And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision. 2:9 かつ、わたしに賜わった恵みを知って、柱として重んじられているヤコブとケパとヨハネとは、わたしとバルナバとに、交わりの手を差し伸べた。そこで、わたしたちは異邦人に行き、彼らは割礼の者に行くことになったのである。
10 They only asked us to remember the poor—which very thing I was also zealous to do. 10 Only they would that we should remember the poor; the same which I also was forward to do. 2:10 ただ一つ、わたしたちが貧しい人々をかえりみるようにとのことであったが、わたしはもとより、この事のためにも大いに努めてきたのである。
11 But when Peter came to Antioch, I resisted him to his face, because he stood condemned. 11 But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed. 2:11 ところが、ケパがアンテオケにきたとき、彼に非難すべきことがあったので、わたしは面とむかって彼をなじった。
12 For before some people came from James, he ate with the Gentiles. But when they came, he drew back and separated himself, fearing those who were of the circumcision. 12 For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision. 2:12 というのは、ヤコブのもとからある人々が来るまでは、彼は異邦人と食を共にしていたのに、彼らがきてからは、割礼の者どもを恐れ、しだいに身を引いて離れて行ったからである。
13 And the rest of the Jews joined him in his hypocrisy; so that even Barnabas was carried away with their hypocrisy. 13 And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation. 2:13 そして、ほかのユダヤ人たちも彼と共に偽善の行為をし、バルナバまでがそのような偽善に引きずり込まれた。
14 But when I saw that they didn't walk uprightly according to the truth of the Good News, I said to Peter before them all, "If you, being a Jew, live as the Gentiles do, and not as the Jews do, why do you compel the Gentiles to live as the Jews do? 14 But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews? 2:14 彼らが福音の真理に従ってまっすぐに歩いていないのを見て、わたしは衆人の面前でケパに言った、「あなたは、ユダヤ人であるのに、自分自身はユダヤ人のように生活しないで、異邦人のように生活していながら、どうして異邦人にユダヤ人のようになることをしいるのか」。
15 "We, being Jews by nature, and not Gentile sinners, 15 We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles, 2:15 わたしたちは生れながらのユダヤ人であって、異邦人なる罪人ではないが、
16 yet knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the law, because no flesh will be justified by the works of the law. 16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. 2:16 人の義とされるのは律法の行いによるのではなく、ただキリスト・イエスを信じる信仰によることを認めて、わたしたちもキリスト・イエスを信じたのである。それは、律法の行いによるのではなく、キリストを信じる信仰によって義とされるためである。なぜなら、律法の行いによっては、だれひとり義とされることがないからである。
17 But if, while we sought to be justified in Christ, we ourselves also were found sinners, is Christ a servant of sin? Certainly not! 17 But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid. 2:17 しかし、キリストにあって義とされることを求めることによって、わたしたち自身が罪人であるとされるのなら、キリストは罪に仕える者なのであろうか。断じてそうではない。
18 For if I build up again those things which I destroyed, I prove myself a law-breaker. 18 For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. 2:18 もしわたしが、いったん打ちこわしたものを、再び建てるとすれば、それこそ、自分が違反者であることを表明することになる。
19 For I, through the law, died to the law, that I might live to God. 19 For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God. 2:19 わたしは、神に生きるために、律法によって律法に死んだ。わたしはキリストと共に十字架につけられた。
20 I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I that live, but Christ living in me. That life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself up for me. 20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. 2:20 生きているのは、もはや、わたしではない。キリストが、わたしのうちに生きておられるのである。しかし、わたしがいま肉にあって生きているのは、わたしを愛し、わたしのためにご自身をささげられた神の御子を信じる信仰によって、生きているのである。
21 I don't make void the grace of God. For if righteousness is through the law, then Christ died for nothing!" 21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. 2:21 わたしは、神の恵みを無にはしない。もし、義が律法によって得られるとすれば、キリストの死はむだであったことになる。

1 Foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you not to obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was openly set forth among you as crucified? 1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? 3:1 ああ、物わかりのわるいガラテヤ人よ。十字架につけられたイエス・キリストが、あなたがたの目の前に描き出されたのに、いったい、だれがあなたがたを惑わしたのか。
2 I just want to learn this from you. Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by hearing of faith? 2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? 3:2 わたしは、ただこの一つの事を、あなたがたに聞いてみたい。あなたがたが御霊を受けたのは、律法を行ったからか、それとも、聞いて信じたからか。
3 Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now completed in the flesh? 3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? 3:3 あなたがたは、そんなに物わかりがわるいのか。御霊で始めたのに、今になって肉で仕上げるというのか。
4 Did you suffer so many things in vain, if it is indeed in vain? 4 Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain. 3:4 あれほどの大きな経験をしたことは、むだであったのか。まさか、むだではあるまい。
5 He therefore who supplies the Spirit to you, and works miracles among you, does he do it by the works of the law, or by hearing of faith? 5 He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? 3:5 すると、あなたがたに御霊を賜い、力あるわざをあなたがたの間でなされたのは、律法を行ったからか、それとも、聞いて信じたからか。
6 Even as Abraham "believed God, and it was counted to him for righteousness." 6 Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. 3:6 このように、アブラハムは「神を信じた。それによって、彼は義と認められた」のである。
7 Know therefore that those who are of faith, the same are children of Abraham. 7 Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. 3:7 だから、信仰による者こそアブラハムの子であることを、知るべきである。
8 The Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the Good News beforehand to Abraham, saying, "In you all the nations will be blessed." 8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. 3:8 聖書は、神が異邦人を信仰によって義とされることを、あらかじめ知って、アブラハムに、「あなたによって、すべての国民は祝福されるであろう」との良い知らせを、予告したのである。
9 So then, those who are of faith are blessed with the faithful Abraham. 9 So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham. 3:9 このように、信仰による者は、信仰の人アブラハムと共に、祝福を受けるのである。
10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under a curse. For it is written, "Cursed is everyone who doesn't continue in all things that are written in the book of the law, to do them." 10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. 3:10 いったい、律法の行いによる者は、皆のろいの下にある。「律法の書に書いてあるいっさいのことを守らず、これを行わない者は、皆のろわれる」と書いてあるからである。
11 Now that no man is justified by the law before God is evident, for, "The righteous will live by faith." 11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. 3:11 そこで、律法によっては、神のみまえに義とされる者はひとりもないことが、明らかである。なぜなら、「信仰による義人は生きる」からである。
12 The law is not of faith, but, "The man who does them will live by them." 12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. 3:12 律法は信仰に基いているものではない。かえって、「律法を行う者は律法によって生きる」のである。
13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us. For it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree," 13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: 3:13 キリストは、わたしたちのためにのろいとなって、わたしたちを律法ののろいからあがない出して下さった。聖書に、「木にかけられる者は、すべてのろわれる」と書いてある。
14 that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Christ Jesus; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. 14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. 3:14 それは、アブラハムの受けた祝福が、イエス・キリストにあって異邦人に及ぶためであり、約束された御霊を、わたしたちが信仰によって受けるためである。
15 Brothers, speaking of human terms, though it is only a man's covenant, yet when it has been confirmed, no one makes it void, or adds to it. 15 Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto. 3:15 兄弟たちよ。世のならわしを例にとって言おう。人間の遺言でさえ、いったん作成されたら、これを無効にしたり、これに付け加えたりすることは、だれにもできない。
16 Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He doesn't say, "To seeds," as of many, but as of one, "To your seed," which is Christ. 16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. 3:16 さて、約束は、アブラハムと彼の子孫とに対してなされたのである。それは、多数をさして「子孫たちとに」と言わずに、ひとりをさして「あなたの子孫とに」と言っている。これは、キリストのことである。
17 Now I say this. A covenant confirmed beforehand by God in Christ, the law, which came four hundred thirty years after, does not annul, so as to make the promise of no effect. 17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect. 3:17 わたしの言う意味は、こうである。神によってあらかじめ立てられた契約が、四百三十年の後にできた律法によって破棄されて、その約束がむなしくなるようなことはない。
18 For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no more of promise; but God has granted it to Abraham by promise. 18 For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise. 3:18 もし相続が、律法に基いてなされるとすれば、もはや約束に基いたものではない。ところが事実、神は約束によって、相続の恵みをアブラハムに賜わったのである。
19 What then is the law? It was added because of transgressions, until the seed should come to whom the promise has been made. It was ordained through angels by the hand of a mediator. 19 Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator. 3:19 それでは、律法はなんであるか。それは違反を促すため、あとから加えられたのであって、約束されていた子孫が来るまで存続するだけのものであり、かつ、天使たちをとおし、仲介者の手によって制定されたものにすぎない。
20 Now a mediator is not between one, but God is one. 20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one. 3:20 仲介者なるものは、一方だけに属する者ではない。しかし、神はひとりである。
21 Isthe law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could make alive, most certainly righteousness would have been of the law. 21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law. 3:21 では、律法は神の約束と相いれないものか。断じてそうではない。もし人を生かす力のある律法が与えられていたとすれば、義はたしかに律法によって実現されたであろう。

24 So that the law has become our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 3:24 このようにして律法は、信仰によって義とされるために、わたしたちをキリストに連れて行く養育掛となったのである。
25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. 25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. 3:25 しかし、いったん信仰が現れた以上、わたしたちは、もはや養育掛のもとにはいない。
26 For you are all children of God, through faith in Christ Jesus. 26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. 3:26 あなたがたはみな、キリスト・イエスにある信仰によって、神の子なのである。
27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 3:27 キリストに合うバプテスマを受けたあなたがたは、皆キリストを着たのである。
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. 3:28 もはや、ユダヤ人もギリシヤ人もなく、奴隷も自由人もなく、男も女もない。あなたがたは皆、キリスト・イエスにあって一つだからである。
29 If you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed and heirs according to promise. 29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. 3:29 もしキリストのものであるなら、あなたがたはアブラハムの子孫であり、約束による相続人なのである。

1 But I say that so long as the heir is a child, he is no different from a bondservant, though he is lord of all; 1 Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; 4:1 わたしの言う意味は、こうである。相続人が子供である間は、全財産の持ち主でありながら、僕となんの差別もなく、
2 but is under guardians and stewards until the day appointed by the father. 2 But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father. 4:2 父親の定めた時期までは、管理人や後見人の監督の下に置かれているのである。
3 So we also, when we were children, were held in bondage under the elemental principles of the world. 3 Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world: 4:3 それと同じく、わたしたちも子供であった時には、いわゆるこの世のもろもろの霊力の下に、縛られていた者であった。
4 But when the fullness of the time came, God sent out his Son, born to a woman, born under the law, 4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 4:4 しかし、時の満ちるに及んで、神は御子を女から生れさせ、律法の下に生れさせて、おつかわしになった。
5 that he might redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of children. 5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. 4:5 それは、律法の下にある者をあがない出すため、わたしたちに子たる身分を授けるためであった。
6 And because you are children, God sent out the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, "Abba, Father!" 6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. 4:6 このように、あなたがたは子であるのだから、神はわたしたちの心の中に、「アバ、父よ」と呼ぶ御子の霊を送って下さったのである。
7 So you are no longer a bondservant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. 7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. 4:7 したがって、あなたがたはもはや僕ではなく、子である。子である以上、また神による相続人である。
8 However at that time, not knowing God, you were in bondage to those who by nature are not gods. 8 Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods. 4:8 神を知らなかった当時、あなたがたは、本来神ならぬ神々の奴隷になっていた。
9 But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, why do you turn back again to the weak and miserable elemental principles, to which you desire to be in bondage all over again? 9 But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage? 4:9 しかし、今では神を知っているのに、否、むしろ神に知られているのに、どうして、あの無力で貧弱な、もろもろの霊力に逆もどりして、またもや、新たにその奴隷になろうとするのか。
10 You observe days, months, seasons, and years. 10 Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years. 4:10 あなたがたは、日や月や季節や年などを守っている。
11 I am afraid for you, that I might have wasted my labor for you. 11 I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain. 4:11 わたしは、あなたがたのために努力してきたことが、あるいは、むだになったのではないかと、あなたがたのことが心配でならない。
12 I beg you, brothers, become as I am, for I also have become as you are. You did me no wrong, 12 Brethren, I beseech you, be as I am; for I am as ye are: ye have not injured me at all. 4:12 兄弟たちよ。お願いする。どうか、わたしのようになってほしい。わたしも、あなたがたのようになったのだから。あなたがたは、一度もわたしに対して不都合なことをしたことはない。
13 but you know that because of weakness of the flesh I preached the Good News to you the first time. 13 Ye know how through infirmity of the flesh I preached the gospel unto you at the first. 4:13 あなたがたも知っているとおり、最初わたしがあなたがたに福音を伝えたのは、わたしの肉体が弱っていたためであった。
14 That which was a temptation to you in my flesh, you didn't despise nor reject; but you received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus. 14 And my temptation which was in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected; but received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus. 4:14 そして、わたしの肉体にはあなたがたにとって試錬となるものがあったのに、それを卑しめもせず、またきらいもせず、かえってわたしを、神の使かキリスト・イエスかでもあるように、迎えてくれた。
15 What was the blessing you enjoyed? For I testify to you that, if possible, you would have plucked out your eyes and given them to me. 15 Where is then the blessedness ye spake of? for I bear you record, that, if it had been possible, ye would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given them to me. 4:15 その時のあなたがたの感激は、今どこにあるのか。はっきり言うが、あなたがたは、できることなら、自分の目をえぐり出してでも、わたしにくれたかったのだ。
16 So then, have I become your enemy by telling you the truth? 16 Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth? 4:16 それだのに、真理を語ったために、わたしはあなたがたの敵になったのか。
17 They zealously seek you in no good way. No, they desire to alienate you, that you may seek them. 17 They zealously affect you, but not well; yea, they would exclude you, that ye might affect them. 4:17 彼らがあなたがたに対して熱心なのは、善意からではない。むしろ、自分らに熱心にならせるために、あなたがたをわたしから引き離そうとしているのである。
18 But it is always good to be zealous in a good cause, and not only when I am present with you. 18 But it is good to be zealously affected always in a good thing, and not only when I am present with you. 4:18 わたしがあなたがたの所にいる時だけでなく、いつも、良いことについて熱心に慕われるのは、良いことである。
19 My little children, of whom I am again in travail until Christ is formed in you— 19 My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you, 4:19 ああ、わたしの幼な子たちよ。あなたがたの内にキリストの形ができるまでは、わたしは、またもや、あなたがたのために産みの苦しみをする。
20 but I could wish to bepresent with you now, and to change my tone, for I am perplexed about you. 20 I desire to be present with you now, and to change my voice; for I stand in doubt of you. 4:20 できることなら、わたしは今あなたがたの所にいて、語調を変えて話してみたい。わたしは、あなたがたのことで、途方にくれている。
21 Tell me, you that desire to be under the law, don't you listen to the law? 21 Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law? 4:21 律法の下にとどまっていたいと思う人たちよ。わたしに答えなさい。あなたがたは律法の言うところを聞かないのか。
22 For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the handmaid, and one by the free woman. 22 For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman. 4:22 そのしるすところによると、アブラハムにふたりの子があったが、ひとりは女奴隷から、ひとりは自由の女から生れた。
23 However, the son by the handmaid was born according to the flesh, but the son by the free woman was born through promise. 23 But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise. 4:23 女奴隷の子は肉によって生れたのであり、自由の女の子は約束によって生れたのであった。
24 These things contain an allegory, for these are two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai, bearing children to bondage, which is Hagar. 24 Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar. 4:24 さて、この物語は比喩としてみられる。すなわち、この女たちは二つの契約をさす。そのひとりはシナイ山から出て、奴隷となる者を産む。ハガルがそれである。
25 For this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and answers to the Jerusalem that exists now, for she is in bondage with her children. 25 For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children. 4:25 ハガルといえば、アラビヤではシナイ山のことで、今のエルサレムに当る。なぜなら、それは子たちと共に、奴隷となっているからである。
26 But the Jerusalem that is above is free, which is the mother of us all. 26 But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all. 4:26 しかし、上なるエルサレムは、自由の女であって、わたしたちの母をさす。
27 For it is written, "Rejoice, you barren who don't bear. Break forth and shout, you that don't travail. For more are the children of the desolate than of her who has a husband." 27 For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband. 4:27 すなわち、こう書いてある、「喜べ、不妊の女よ。声をあげて喜べ、産みの苦しみを知らない女よ。ひとり者となっている女は多くの子を産み、その数は、夫ある女の子らよりも多い」。
28 Now we, brothers, as Isaac was, are children of promise. 28 Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise. 4:28 兄弟たちよ。あなたがたは、イサクのように、約束の子である。
29 But as then, he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so also it is now. 29 But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now. 4:29 しかし、その当時、肉によって生れた者が、霊によって生れた者を迫害したように、今でも同様である。
30 However what does the Scripture say? "Throw out the handmaid and her son, for the son of the handmaid will not inherit with the son of the free woman." 30 Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman. 4:30 しかし、聖書はなんと言っているか。「女奴隷とその子とを追い出せ。女奴隷の子は、自由の女の子と共に相続をしてはならない」とある。
31 So then, brothers, we are not children of a handmaid, but of the free woman. 31 So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free. 4:31 だから、兄弟たちよ。わたしたちは女奴隷の子ではなく、自由の女の子なのである。

1 Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and don't be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. 1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. 5:1 自由を得させるために、キリストはわたしたちを解放して下さったのである。だから、堅く立って、二度と奴隷のくびきにつながれてはならない。
2 Behold, I, Paul, tell you that if you receive circumcision, Christ will profit you nothing. 2 Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. 5:2 見よ、このパウロがあなたがたに言う。もし割礼を受けるなら、キリストはあなたがたに用のないものになろう。
3 Yes, I testify again to every man who receives circumcision, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. 3 For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. 5:3 割礼を受けようとするすべての人たちに、もう一度言っておく。そういう人たちは、律法の全部を行う義務がある。
4 You are alienated from Christ, you who desire to be justified by the law. You have fallen away from grace. 4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. 5:4 律法によって義とされようとするあなたがたは、キリストから離れてしまっている。恵みから落ちている。
5 For we, through the Spirit, by faith wait for the hope of righteousness. 5 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. 5:5 わたしたちは、御霊の助けにより、信仰によって義とされる望みを強くいだいている。
6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision amounts to anything, nor uncircumcision, but faith working through love. 6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love. 5:6 キリスト・イエスにあっては、割礼があってもなくても、問題ではない。尊いのは、愛によって働く信仰だけである。
7 You were running well! Who interfered with you that you should not obey the truth? 7 Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth? 5:7 あなたがたはよく走り続けてきたのに、だれが邪魔をして、真理にそむかせたのか。
8 This persuasion is not from him who calls you. 8 This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you. 5:8 そのような勧誘は、あなたがたを召されたかたから出たものではない。
9 A little yeast grows through the whole lump. 9 A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump. 5:9 少しのパン種でも、粉のかたまり全体をふくらませる。
10 I have confidence toward you in the Lord that you will think no other way. But he who troubles you will bear his judgment, whoever he is. 10 I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded: but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be. 5:10 あなたがたはいささかもわたしと違った思いをいだくことはないと、主にあって信頼している。しかし、あなたがたを動揺させている者は、それがだれであろうと、さばきを受けるであろう。
11 But I, brothers, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted? Then the stumbling block of the cross has been removed. 11 And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? then is the offence of the cross ceased. 5:11 兄弟たちよ。わたしがもし今でも割礼を宣べ伝えていたら、どうして、いまなお迫害されるはずがあろうか。そうしていたら、十字架のつまずきは、なくなっているであろう。
12 I wish that those who disturb you would cut themselves off. 12 I would they were even cut off which trouble you. 5:12 あなたがたの煽動者どもは、自ら不具になるがよかろう。
13 For you, brothers, were called for freedom. Only don't use your freedom for gain to the flesh, but through love be servants to one another. 13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. 5:13 兄弟たちよ。あなたがたが召されたのは、実に、自由を得るためである。ただ、その自由を、肉の働く機会としないで、愛をもって互に仕えなさい。
14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, in this: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." 14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 5:14 律法の全体は、「自分を愛するように、あなたの隣り人を愛せよ」というこの一句に尽きるからである。
15 But if you bite and devour one another, be careful that you don't consume one another. 15 But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. 5:15 気をつけるがよい。もし互にかみ合い、食い合っているなら、あなたがたは互に滅ぼされてしまうだろう。
16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you won't fulfill the lust of the flesh. 16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 5:16 わたしは命じる、御霊によって歩きなさい。そうすれば、決して肉の欲を満たすことはない。
17 For theflesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, that you may not do the things that you desire. 17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. 5:17 なぜなら、肉の欲するところは御霊に反し、また御霊の欲するところは肉に反するからである。こうして、二つのものは互に相さからい、その結果、あなたがたは自分でしようと思うことを、することができないようになる。
18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. 5:18 もしあなたがたが御霊に導かれるなら、律法の下にはいない。
19 Now the works of the flesh are obvious, which are: adultery, sexual immorality, uncleanness, lustfulness, 19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 5:19 肉の働きは明白である。すなわち、不品行、汚れ、好色、
20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousies, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 5:20 偶像礼拝、まじない、敵意、争い、そねみ、怒り、党派心、分裂、分派、
21 envyings, murders, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these; of which I forewarn you, even as I also forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God. 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 5:21 ねたみ、泥酔、宴楽、および、そのたぐいである。わたしは以前も言ったように、今も前もって言っておく。このようなことを行う者は、神の国をつぐことがない。
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,faith, 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 5:22 しかし、御霊の実は、愛、喜び、平和、寛容、慈愛、善意、忠実、
23 gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 5:23 柔和、自制であって、これらを否定する律法はない。
24 Those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and lusts. 24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 5:24 キリスト・イエスに属する者は、自分の肉を、その情と欲と共に十字架につけてしまったのである。
25 If we live by the Spirit, let's also walk by the Spirit. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 5:25 もしわたしたちが御霊によって生きるのなら、また御霊によって進もうではないか。
26 Let's not become conceited, provoking one another, and envying one another. 26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another. 5:26 互にいどみ合い、互にねたみ合って、虚栄に生きてはならない。

1 Brothers, even if a man is caught in some fault, you who are spiritual must restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; looking to yourself so that you also aren't tempted. 1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. 6:1 兄弟たちよ。もしもある人が罪過に陥っていることがわかったなら、霊の人であるあなたがたは、柔和な心をもって、その人を正しなさい。それと同時に、もしか自分自身も誘惑に陥ることがありはしないかと、反省しなさい。
2 Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. 2 Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. 6:2 互に重荷を負い合いなさい。そうすれば、あなたがたはキリストの律法を全うするであろう。
3 For if a man thinks himself to be something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. 3 For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. 6:3 もしある人が、事実そうでないのに、自分が何か偉い者であるように思っているとすれば、その人は自分を欺いているのである。
4 But let each man test his own work, and then he will take pride in himself and not in his neighbor. 4 But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. 6:4 ひとりびとり、自分の行いを検討してみるがよい。そうすれば、自分だけには誇ることができても、ほかの人には誇れなくなるであろう。
5 For each man will bear his own burden. 5 For every man shall bear his own burden. 6:5 人はそれぞれ、自分自身の重荷を負うべきである。
6 But let him who is taught in the word share all good things with him who teaches. 6 Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things. 6:6 御言を教えてもらう人は、教える人と、すべて良いものを分け合いなさい。
7 Don't be deceived. God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 6:7 まちがってはいけない、神は侮られるようなかたではない。人は自分のまいたものを、刈り取ることになる。
8 For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption. But he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. 6:8 すなわち、自分の肉にまく者は、肉から滅びを刈り取り、霊にまく者は、霊から永遠のいのちを刈り取るであろう。
9 Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don't give up. 9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. 6:9 わたしたちは、善を行うことに、うみ疲れてはならない。たゆまないでいると、時が来れば刈り取るようになる。
10 So then, as we have opportunity, let's do what is good toward all men, and especially toward those who are of the household of the faith. 10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith. 6:10 だから、機会のあるごとに、だれに対しても、とくに信仰の仲間に対して、善を行おうではないか。
11 See with what large letters I write to you with my own hand. 11 Ye see how large a letter I have written unto you with mine own hand. 6:11 ごらんなさい。わたし自身いま筆をとって、こんなに大きい字で、あなたがたに書いていることを。
12 As many as desire to look good in the flesh, they compel you to be circumcised; only that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. 12 As many as desire to make a fair shew in the flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised; only lest they should suffer persecution for the cross of Christ. 6:12 いったい、肉において見えを飾ろうとする者たちは、キリスト・イエスの十字架のゆえに、迫害を受けたくないばかりに、あなたがたにしいて割礼を受けさせようとする。
13 For even they who receive circumcision don't keep the law themselves, but they desire to have you circumcised, that they may boast in your flesh. 13 For neither they themselves who are circumcised keep the law; but desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh. 6:13 事実、割礼のあるもの自身が律法を守らず、ただ、あなたがたの肉について誇りたいために、割礼を受けさせようとしているのである。
14 But far be it from me to boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. 14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. 6:14 しかし、わたし自身には、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの十字架以外に、誇とするものは、断じてあってはならない。この十字架につけられて、この世はわたしに対して死に、わたしもこの世に対して死んでしまったのである。
15 For in Christ Jesus neither is circumcision anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. 15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. 6:15 割礼のあるなしは問題ではなく、ただ、新しく造られることこそ、重要なのである。
