1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the chosen ones who are living as foreigners in the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 1:1 イエス・キリストの使徒ペテロから、ポント、ガラテヤ、カパドキヤ、アジヤおよびビテニヤに離散し寄留している人たち、

1 Putting away therefore all wickedness, all deceit, hypocrisies, envies, and all evil speaking, 1 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, 2:1 だから、あらゆる悪意、あらゆる偽り、偽善、そねみ、いっさいの悪口を捨てて、
2 as newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the Word, that you may grow thereby, 2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: 2:2 今生れたばかりの乳飲み子のように、混じりけのない霊の乳を慕い求めなさい。それによっておい育ち、救に入るようになるためである。

14 or to governors, as sent by him for vengeance on evildoers and for praise to those who do well. 14 Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. 2:14 あるいは、悪を行う者を罰し善を行う者を賞するために、王からつかわされた長官であろうと、これに従いなさい。
15 For this is the will of God, that by well-doing you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: 15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: 2:15 善を行うことによって、愚かな人々の無知な発言を封じるのは、神の御旨なのである。
16 as free, and not using your freedom for a cloak of wickedness, but as bondservants of God. 16 As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. 2:16 自由人にふさわしく行動しなさい。ただし、自由をば悪を行う口実として用いず、神の僕にふさわしく行動しなさい。

20 For what glory is it if, when you sin, you patiently endure beating? But if, when you do well, you patiently endure suffering, this is commendable with God. 20 For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. 2:20 悪いことをして打ちたたかれ、それを忍んだとしても、なんの手柄になるのか。しかし善を行って苦しみを受け、しかもそれを耐え忍んでいるとすれば、これこそ神によみせられることである。
21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leavingyou an example, that you should follow his steps, 21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: 2:21 あなたがたは、実に、そうするようにと召されたのである。キリストも、あなたがたのために苦しみを受け、御足の跡を踏み従うようにと、模範を残されたのである。

1 In like manner, wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; so that, even if any don't obey the Word, they may be won by the behavior of their wives without a word; 1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; 3:1 同じように、妻たる者よ。夫に仕えなさい。そうすれば、たとい御言に従わない夫であっても、
2 seeing your pure behavior in fear. 2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. 3:2 あなたがたのうやうやしく清い行いを見て、その妻の無言の行いによって、救に入れられるようになるであろう。
3 Let your beauty be not just the outward adorning of braiding the hair, and of wearing jewels of gold, or of putting on fine clothing; 3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; 3:3 あなたがたは、髪を編み、金の飾りをつけ、服装をととのえるような外面の飾りではなく、
4 but in the hidden person of the heart, in the incorruptible adornment of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God very precious. 4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. 3:4 かくれた内なる人、柔和で、しとやかな霊という朽ちることのない飾りを、身につけるべきである。これこそ、神のみまえに、きわめて尊いものである。
5 For this is how the holy women before, who hoped in God also adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands: 5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: 3:5 むかし、神を仰ぎ望んでいた聖なる女たちも、このように身を飾って、その夫に仕えたのである。
6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose children you now are, if you do well, and are not put in fear by any terror. 6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement. 3:6 たとえば、サラはアブラハムに仕えて、彼を主と呼んだ。あなたがたも、何事にもおびえ臆することなく善を行えば、サラの娘たちとなるのである。
7 You husbands, in like manner, live with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman, as to the weaker vessel, as being also joint heirs of the grace of life; that your prayers may not be hindered. 7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered. 3:7 夫たる者よ。あなたがたも同じように、女は自分よりも弱い器であることを認めて、知識に従って妻と共に住み、いのちの恵みを共どもに受け継ぐ者として、尊びなさい。それは、あなたがたの祈が妨げられないためである。
8 Finally, be all like-minded, compassionate, loving as brothers, tenderhearted, courteous, 8 Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: 3:8 最後に言う。あなたがたは皆、心をひとつにし、同情し合い、兄弟愛をもち、あわれみ深くあり、謙虚でありなさい。
9 not rendering evil for evil, or insult for insult; but instead blessing; knowing that to this were you called, that you may inherit a blessing. 9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing. 3:9 悪をもって悪に報いず、悪口をもって悪口に報いず、かえって、祝福をもって報いなさい。あなたがたが召されたのは、祝福を受け継ぐためなのである。
10 For, "He who would love life, and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking deceit. 10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: 3:10 「いのちを愛し、さいわいな日々を過ごそうと願う人は、舌を制して悪を言わず、くちびるを閉じて偽りを語らず、
11 Let him turn away from evil, and do good. Let him seek peace, and pursue it. 11 Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it. 3:11 悪を避けて善を行い、平和を求めて、これを追え。

14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you are blessed. 17 For it is better, if it is God's will, that you suffer for doing well than for doing evil. 17 For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing. 3:17 善をおこなって苦しむことは―それが神の御旨であれば―悪をおこなって苦しむよりも、まさっている。
18 Because Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring you to God; being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; 18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: 3:18 キリストも、あなたがたを神に近づけようとして、自らは義なるかたであるのに、不義なる人々のために、ひとたび罪のゆえに死なれた。ただし、肉においては殺されたが、霊においては生かされたのである。

1 Forasmuch then as Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind; for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin; 1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; 4:1 このように、キリストは肉において苦しまれたのであるから、あなたがたも同じ覚悟で心の武装をしなさい。肉において苦しんだ人は、それによって罪からのがれたのである。
2 that you no longer should live the rest of your time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. 2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. 4:2 それは、肉における残りの生涯を、もはや人間の欲情によらず、神の御旨によって過ごすためである。
3 For we have spent enough of our past time doing the desire of the Gentiles, and having walked in lewdness, lusts, drunken binges, orgies, carousings, and abominable idolatries. 3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: 4:3 過ぎ去った時代には、あなたがたは、異邦人の好みにまかせて、好色、欲情、酔酒、宴楽、暴飲、気ままな偶像礼拝などにふけってきたが、もうそれで十分であろう。
4 They think it is strange that you don't run with them into the same excess of riot, blaspheming: 4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you: 4:4 今はあなたがたが、そうした度を過ごした乱行に加わらないので、彼らは驚きあやしみ、かつ、ののしっている。
5 who will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. 5 Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead. 4:5 彼らは、やがて生ける者と死ねる者とをさばくかたに、申し開きをしなくてはならない。
6 For to this end the Good News was preached even to the dead, that they might be judged indeed as men in the flesh, but live as to God in the spirit. 6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. 4:6 死人にさえ福音が宣べ伝えられたのは、彼らは肉においては人間としてさばきを受けるが、霊においては神に従って生きるようになるためである。
7 But the end of all things is near. Therefore be of sound mind, self-controlled, and sober in prayer. 7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. 4:7 万物の終りが近づいている。だから、心を確かにし、身を慎んで、努めて祈りなさい。
8 And above all things be earnest in your love among yourselves, for love covers a multitude of sins. 8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. 4:8 何よりもまず、互の愛を熱く保ちなさい。愛は多くの罪をおおうものである。
9 Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. 9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging. 4:9 不平を言わずに、互にもてなし合いなさい。
10 As each has received a gift, employ it in serving one another, as good managers of the grace of God in its various forms. 10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 4:10 あなたがたは、それぞれ賜物をいただいているのだから、神のさまざまな恵みの良き管理人として、それをお互のために役立てるべきである。
11 If anyone speaks, let it be as it were the very words of God. If anyone serves, let it be as of the strength which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. 11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. 12 Beloved, don't be astonished at the fiery trial which has come upon you, to test you, as though a strange thing happened to you. 12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: 4:12 愛する者たちよ。あなたがたを試みるために降りかかって来る火のような試錬を、何か思いがけないことが起ったかのように驚きあやしむことなく、
13 But because you are partakers of Christ's sufferings, rejoice; that at the revelation of his glory you also may rejoice with exceeding joy. 13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. 4:13 むしろ、キリストの苦しみにあずかればあずかるほど、喜ぶがよい。それは、キリストの栄光が現れる際に、よろこびにあふれるためである。
14 If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed; because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. On their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified. 14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. 4:14 キリストの名のためにそしられるなら、あなたがたはさいわいである。その時には、栄光の霊、神の霊が、あなたがたに宿るからである。
15 For let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil doer, or a meddler in other men's matters. 15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters. 4:15 あなたがたのうち、だれも、人殺し、盗人、悪を行う者、あるいは、他人に干渉する者として苦しみに会うことのないようにしなさい。
16 But if one of you suffers for being a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God in this matter. 16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. 4:16 しかし、クリスチャンとして苦しみを受けるのであれば、恥じることはない。かえって、この名によって神をあがめなさい。
17 For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God. If it begins first with us, what will happen to those who don't obey the Good News of God? 17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? 4:17 さばきが神の家から始められる時がきた。それが、わたしたちからまず始められるとしたら、神の福音に従わない人々の行く末は、どんなであろうか。
18 "If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will happen to the ungodly and the sinner?" 18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? 4:18 また義人でさえ、かろうじて救われるのだとすれば、不信なる者や罪人は、どうなるであろうか。
19 Therefore let them also who suffer according to the will of God in doing good entrust their souls to him, as to a faithful Creator. 19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator. 4:19 だから、神の御旨に従って苦しみを受ける人々は、善をおこない、そして、真実であられる創造者に、自分のたましいをゆだねるがよい。

1 I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and who will also share in the glory that will be revealed. 1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: 5:1 そこで、あなたがたのうちの長老たちに勧める。わたしも、長老のひとりで、キリストの苦難についての証人であり、また、やがて現れようとする栄光にあずかる者である。
2 Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, exercising the oversight, not under compulsion, but voluntarily, not for dishonest gain, but willingly; 2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; 5:2 あなたがたにゆだねられている神の羊の群れを牧しなさい。しいられてするのではなく、神に従って自ら進んでなし、恥ずべき利得のためではなく、本心から、それをしなさい。
3 neither as lording it over those entrusted to you, but making yourselves examples to the flock. 3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. 5:3 また、ゆだねられた者たちの上に権力をふるうことをしないで、むしろ、群れの模範となるべきである。
4 When the chief Shepherd is revealed, you will receive the crown of glory that doesn't fade away. 4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. 5:4 そうすれば、大牧者が現れる時には、しぼむことのない栄光の冠を受けるであろう。
5 Likewise, you younger ones, be subject to the elder. Yes, all of you gird yourselves with humility, to subject yourselves to one another; for "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble." 5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. 5:5 同じように、若い人たちよ。長老たちに従いなさい。また、みな互に謙遜を身につけなさい。神は高ぶる者をしりぞけ、へりくだる者に恵みを賜うからである。
6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time; 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 5:6 だから、あなたがたは、神の力強い御手の下に、自らを低くしなさい。時が来れば神はあなたがたを高くして下さるであろう。
7 casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 5:7 神はあなたがたをかえりみていて下さるのであるから、自分の思いわずらいを、いっさい神にゆだねるがよい。
8 Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 5:8 身を慎み、目をさましていなさい。あなたがたの敵である悪魔が、ほえたけるししのように、食いつくすべきものを求めて歩き回っている。
9 Withstand him steadfast in your faith, knowing that your brothers who are in the world are undergoing the same sufferings. 9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. 5:9 この悪魔にむかい、信仰にかたく立って、抵抗しなさい。あなたがたのよく知っているとおり、全世界にいるあなたがたの兄弟たちも、同じような苦しみの数々に会っているのである。
10 But may the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a little while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. 10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. 5:10 あなたがたをキリストにある永遠の栄光に招き入れて下さったあふるる恵みの神は、しばらくの苦しみの後、あなたがたをいやし、強め、力づけ、不動のものとして下さるであろう。
11 To him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen. 11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. 5:11 どうか、力が世々限りなく、神にあるように、アァメン。
