1:1 In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, the Word of Yahweh came by Haggai, the prophet, to Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua, the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying, 1 In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, saying, 1 ダリヨス王の二年六月、その月の一日に、主の言葉が預言者ハガイによって、シャルテルの子、ユダの総督ゼルバベル、およびヨザダクの子、大祭司ヨシュアに臨んだ、
1:2 “This is what Yahweh of Armies says: These people say, ‘The time hasn’t yet come, the time for Yahweh’s house to be built.’” 2 Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the LORD's house should be built. 2 「万軍の主はこう言われる、この民は、主の家を再び建てる時は、まだこないと言っている」。
1:3 Then the Word of Yahweh came by Haggai, the prophet, saying, 3 Then came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying, 3 そこで、主の言葉はまた預言者ハガイに臨んだ、
1:4 “Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies waste? 4 Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste? 4 「主の家はこのように荒れはてているのに、あなたがたは、みずから板で張った家に住んでいる時であろうか。
1:5 Now therefore this is what Yahweh of Armies says: Consider your ways. 5 Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways. 5 それで今、万軍の主はこう言われる、あなたがたは自分のなすべきことをよく考えるがよい。
1:6 You have sown much, and bring in little. You eat, but you don’t have enough. You drink, but you aren’t filled with drink. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm, and he who earns wages earns wages to put them into a bag with holes in it.” 6 Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes. 6 あなたがたは多くまいても、取入れは少なく、食べても、飽きることはない。飲んでも、満たされない。着ても、暖まらない。賃銀を得ても、これを破れた袋に入れているようなものである。
1:7 This is what Yahweh of Armies says: “Consider your ways. 7 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways. 7 万軍の主はこう言われる、あなたがたは、自分のなすべきことを考えるがよい。
1:8 Go up to the mountain, bring wood, and build the house. I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified,” says Yahweh. 8 Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD. 8 山に登り、木を持ってきて主の家を建てよ。そうすればわたしはこれを喜び、かつ栄光のうちに現れると主は言われる。
1:9 “You looked for much, and, behold, it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?” says Yahweh of Armies, “Because of my house that lies waste, while each of you is busy with his own house. 9 Ye looked for much, and, lo it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house. 9 あなたがたは多くを望んだが、見よ、それは少なかった。あなたがたが家に持ってきたとき、わたしはそれを吹き払った。これは何ゆえであるかと、万軍の主は言われる。これはわたしの家が荒れはてているのに、あなたがたは、おのおの自分の家の事だけに、忙しくしている。
1:10 Therefore for your sake the heavens withhold the dew, and the earth withholds its fruit. 10 Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit. 10 それゆえ、あなたがたの上の天は露をさし止め、地はその産物をさし止めた。
1:11 I called for a drought on the land, on the mountains, on the grain, on the new wine, on the oil, on that which the ground brings forth, on men, on livestock, and on all the labor of the hands.” 11 And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands. 11 また、わたしは地にも、山にも、穀物にも、新しい酒にも、油にも、地に生じるものにも、人間にも、家畜にも、手で作るすべての作物にも、ひでりを呼び寄せた」。
1:12 Then Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua, the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of Yahweh, their God, and the words of Haggai, the prophet, as Yahweh, their God, had sent him; and the people feared Yahweh. 12 Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him, and the people did fear before the LORD. 12 そこで、シャルテルの子ゼルバベルとヨザダクの子、大祭司ヨシュアおよび残りのすべての民は、その神、主の声と、その神、主のつかわされた預言者ハガイの言葉とに聞きしたがい、そして民は、主の前に恐れかしこんだ。

1:14 Yahweh stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua, the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and worked on the house of Yahweh of Armies, their God, 14 And the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the LORD of hosts, their God, 14 そして主は、シャルテルの子、ユダの総督ゼルバベルの心と、ヨザダクの子、大祭司ヨシュアの心、および残りのすべての民の心を、振り動かされたので、彼らは来て、その神、万軍の主の家の作業にとりかかった。

2:1 In the seventh month, in the twenty-first day of the month, the Word of Yahweh came by Haggai the prophet, saying, 1 In the seventh month, in the one and twentieth day of the month, came the word of the LORD by the prophet Haggai, saying, 1 ダリヨス王の二年の七月二十一日に、主の言葉が預言者ハガイに臨んだ、
2:2 “Speak now to Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua, the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people, saying, 2 Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and to the residue of the people, saying, 2 「シャルテルの子、ユダの総督ゼルバベルと、ヨザダクの子、大祭司ヨシュア、および残りのすべての民に告げて言え、
2:3 ‘Who is left among you who saw this house in its former glory? How do you see it now? Isn’t it in your eyes as nothing? 3 Who is left among you that saw this house in her first glory? and how do ye see it now? is it not in your eyes in comparison of it as nothing? 3 『あなたがた残りの者のうち、以前の栄光に輝く主の家を見た者はだれか。あなたがたは今、この状態をどう思うか。これはあなたがたの目には、無にひとしいではないか。
2:4 Yet now be strong, Zerubbabel,’ says Yahweh. ‘Be strong, Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land,’ says Yahweh, ‘and work, for I am with you,’ says Yahweh of Armies. 4 Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, saith the LORD; and be strong, O Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest; and be strong, all ye people of the land, saith the LORD, and work: for I am with you, saith the LORD of hosts: 4 主は言われる、ゼルバベルよ、勇気を出せ。ヨザダクの子、大祭司ヨシュアよ、勇気を出せ。主は言われる。この地のすべての民よ、勇気を出せ。働け。わたしはあなたがたと共にいると、万軍の主は言われる。
2:5 This is the word that I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt, and my Spirit lived among you. ‘Don’t be afraid.’ 5 According to the word that I covenanted with you when ye came out of Egypt, so my spirit remaineth among you: fear ye not. 5 これはあなたがたがエジプトから出た時、わたしがあなたがたに、約束した言葉である。わたしの霊が、あなたがたのうちに宿っている。恐れるな。
2:6 For this is what Yahweh of Armies says: ‘Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, the earth, the sea, and the dry land; 6 For thus saith the LORD of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land; 6 万軍の主はこう言われる、しばらくして、いま一度、わたしは天と、地と、海と、かわいた地とを震う。
2:7 and I will shake all nations. The precious things of all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory, says Yahweh of Armies. 7 And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts. 7 わたしはまた万国民を震う。万国民の財宝は、はいって来て、わたしは栄光をこの家に満たすと、万軍の主は言われる。
2:8 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine,’ says Yahweh of Armies. 8 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts. 8 銀はわたしのもの、金もわたしのものであると、万軍の主は言われる。
2:9 ‘The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former,’ says Yahweh of Armies; ‘and in this place will I give peace,’ says Yahweh of Armies.” 9 The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts. 9 主の家の後の栄光は、前の栄光よりも大きいと、万軍の主は言われる。わたしはこの所に繁栄を与えると、万軍の主は言われる』」。
2:10 In the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the Word of Yahweh came by Haggai the prophet, saying, 10 In the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying, 10 ダリヨスの二年の九月二十四日に、主の言葉が預言者ハガイに臨んだ、
2:11 “Thus says Yahweh of Armies: Ask now the priests concerning the law, saying, 11 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Ask now the priests concerning the law, saying, 11 「万軍の主はこう言われる、律法について祭司たちに尋ねて言え、
2:12 ‘If someone carries holy meat in the fold of his garment, and with his fold touches bread, stew, wine, oil, or any food, will it become holy?’” The priests answered, “No.” 12 If one bear holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with his skirt do touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No. 12 『人がその衣服のすそで聖なる肉を運んで行き、そのすそがもし、パンまたはあつもの、または酒、または油、またはどんな食物にでもさわったなら、それらは聖なるものとなるか』と」。祭司たちは「ならない」と答えた。
2:13 Then Haggai said, “If one who is unclean by reason of a dead body touch any of these, will it be unclean?” The priests answered, “It will be unclean.” 13 Then said Haggai, If one that is unclean by a dead body touch any of these, shall it be unclean? And the priests answered and said, It shall be unclean. 13 ハガイはまた言った、「もし、死体によって汚れた人が、これらの一つにさわったなら、それは汚れるか」。祭司たちは「汚れる」と答えた。
2:14 Then Haggai answered, “‘So is this people, and so is this nation before me,’ says Yahweh; ‘and so is every work of their hands. That which they offer there is unclean. 14 Then answered Haggai, and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith the LORD; and so is every work of their hands; and that which they offer there is unclean. 14 そこで、ハガイは言った、「主は言われる、この民も、この国も、わたしの前では、そのようである。またその手のわざもそのようである。その所で彼らのささげるものは、汚れたものである。
2:15 Now, please consider from this day and backward, before a stone was laid on a stone in the temple of Yahweh. 15 And now, I pray you, consider from this day and upward, from before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of the LORD: 15 今、あなたがたはこの日から、後の事を思うがよい。主の宮で石の上に石が積まれなかった前、あなたがたは、どんなであったか。
2:16 Through all that time, when one came to a heap of twenty measures, there were only ten. When one came to the wine vat to draw out fifty, there were only twenty. 16 Since those days were, when one came to an heap of twenty measures, there were but ten: when one came to the pressfat for to draw out fifty vessels out of the press, there were but twenty. 16 あの時には、二十枡の麦の積まれる所に行ったが、わずかに十枡を得、また五十桶をくもうとして、酒ぶねに行ったが、二十桶を得たのみであった。
2:17 I struck you with blight, mildew, and hail in all the work of your hands; yet you didn’t turn to me,’ says Yahweh. 17 I smote you with blasting and with mildew and with hail in all the labours of your hands; yet ye turned not to me, saith the LORD. 17 わたしは立ち枯れと、腐り穂と、ひょうをもってあなたがたと、あなたがたのすべての手のわざを撃った。しかし、あなたがたは、わたしに帰らなかったと主は言われる。
2:18 ‘Consider, please, from this day and backward, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, since the day that the foundation of Yahweh’s temple was laid, consider it. 18 Consider now from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of the LORD's temple was laid, consider it. 18 あなたがたはこの日より後、すなわち、九月二十四日よりの事を思うがよい。また主の宮の基をすえた日から後の事を心にとめるがよい。
2:19 Is the seed yet in the barn? Yes, the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree haven’t brought forth. From this day will I bless you.’” 19 Is the seed yet in the barn? yea, as yet the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive tree, hath not brought forth: from this day will I bless you. 19 種はなお、納屋にあるか。ぶどうの木、いちじくの木、ざくろの木、オリブの木もまだ実を結ばない。しかし、わたしはこの日から、あなたがたに恵みを与える」。
2:20 The Word of Yahweh came the second time to Haggai in the twenty-fourth day of the month, saying, 20 And again the word of the LORD came unto Haggai in the four and twentieth day of the month, saying, 20 この月の二十四日に、主の言葉がふたたびハガイに臨んだ、
2:21 “Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, ‘I will shake the heavens and the earth. 21 Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I will shake the heavens and the earth; 21 「ユダの総督ゼルバベルに告げて言え、わたしは天と地を震う。
2:22 I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms. I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the nations. I will overthrow the chariots, and those who ride in them. The horses and their riders will come down, everyone by the sword of his brother. 22 And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the heathen; and I will overthrow the chariots, and those that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother. 22 わたしは国々の王位を倒し、異邦の国々の力を滅ぼし、また戦車、およびこれに乗る者を倒す。馬およびこれに乗る者は、たがいにその仲間のつるぎによって倒れる。
2:23 In that day, says Yahweh of Armies, will I take you, Zerubbabel, my servant, the son of Shealtiel,’ says Yahweh, ‘and will make you as a signet, for I have chosen you,’ says Yahweh of Armies.” 23 In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, will I take thee, O Zerubbabel, my servant, the son of Shealtiel, saith the LORD, and will make thee as a signet: for I have chosen thee, saith the LORD of hosts. 23 万軍の主は言われる、シャルテルの子、わがしもべゼルバベルよ、主は言われる、その日、わたしはあなたを立て、あなたを印章のようにする。わたしはあなたを選んだからであると、万軍の主は言われる」。
