1:6 Let your ear now be attentive, and your eyes open, that you may listen to the prayer of your servant, which I pray before you at this time, day and night, for the children of Israel your servants while I confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against you. 1:7 We have dealt very corruptly against you, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the ordinances, which you commanded your servant Moses. 7 We have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the judgments, which thou commandedst thy servant Moses. 7 われわれはあなたに対して大いに悪い事を行い、あなたのしもべモーセに命じられた戒めをも、定めをも、おきてをも守りませんでした。
1:8“Remember, I beg you, the word that you commanded your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you trespass, I will scatter you abroad among the peoples; 8 Remember, I beseech thee, the word that thou commandedst thy servant Moses, saying, If ye transgress, I will scatter you abroad among the nations: 8 どうぞ、あなたのしもべモーセに命じられた言葉を、思い起してください。すなわちあなたは言われました、『もしあなたがたが罪を犯すならば、わたしはあなたがたを、もろもろの民の間に散らす。
1:9 but if you return to me, and keep my commandments and do them, though your outcasts were in the uttermost part of the heavens, yet will I gather them from there, and will bring them to the place that I have chosen, to cause my name to dwell there.’ 9 But if ye turn unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my name there. 9 しかし、あなたがたがわたしに立ち返り、わたしの戒めを守って、これを行うならば、たといあなたがたのうちの散らされた者が、天の果にいても、わたしはそこから彼らを集め、わたしの名を住まわせるために選んだ所に連れて来る』と。
1:10“Now these are your servants and your people, whom you have redeemed by your great power, and by your strong hand. 10 Now these are thy servants and thy people, whom thou hast redeemed by thy great power, and by thy strong hand. 10 彼らは、あなたが大いなる力と強い手をもって、あがなわれたあなたのしもべ、あなたの民です。
1:11 Lord, I beg you, let your ear be attentive now to the prayer of your servant, and to the prayer of your servants, who delight to fear your name; and please prosper your servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man.” Now I was cup bearer to the king. 11 O LORD, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name: and prosper, I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king's cupbearer. 11 主よ、どうぞしもべの祈と、あなたの名を恐れることを喜ぶあなたのしもべらの祈に耳を傾けてください。どうぞ、きょう、しもべを恵み、この人の目の前であわれみを得させてください」。この時、わたしは王の給仕役であった。

2:1 It happened in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king, when wine was before him, that I took up the wine, and gave it to the king. Now I had not been before sad in his presence. 1 And it came to pass in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that wine was before him: and I took up the wine, and gave it unto the king. 2:2 The king said to me, “Why is your face sad, seeing you are not sick? This is nothing else but sorrow of heart.” Then I was very much afraid. 2 Wherefore the king said unto me, Why is thy countenance sad, seeing thou art not sick? this is nothing else but sorrow of heart. 2:3 I said to the king, “Let the king live forever! Why shouldn’t my face be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers’ tombs, lies waste, and its gates have been consumed with fire?” 3 And said unto the king, Let the king live for ever: why should not my countenance be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers' sepulchres, lieth waste, and the gates thereof are consumed with fire? 3 王に申しあげた、「どうぞ王よ、長生きされますように。わたしの先祖の墳墓の地であるあの町は荒廃し、その門が火で焼かれたままであるのに、どうしてわたしは悲しげな顔をしないでいられましょうか」。
2:4 Then the king said to me, “For what do you make request?” So I prayed to the God of heaven. 4 Then the king said unto me, For what dost thou make request? So I prayed to the God of heaven. 4 王はわたしにむかって、「それでは、あなたは何を願うのか」と言われたので、わたしは天の神に祈って、
2:5 I said to the king, “If it pleases the king, and if your servant has found favor in your sight, that you would send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers’ tombs, that I may build it.” 5 And I said unto the king, If it please the king, and if thy servant have found favour in thy sight, that thou wouldest send me unto Judah, unto the city of my fathers' sepulchres, that I may build it. 5 王に申しあげた、「もし王がよしとされ、しもべがあなたの前に恵みを得ますならば、どうかわたしを、ユダにあるわたしの先祖の墳墓の町につかわして、それを再建させてください」。
2:6 The king said to me (the queen was also sitting by him), “For how long shall your journey be? And when will you return?” So it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a time. 6 And the king said unto me, (the queen also sitting by him,) For how long shall thy journey be? and when wilt thou return? So it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a time. 6 時に王妃もかたわらに座していたが、王はわたしに言われた、「あなたの旅の期間はどれほどですか。いつごろ帰ってきますか」。こうして王がわたしをつかわすことをよしとされたので、わたしは期間を定めて王に申しあげた。
2:7 Moreover I said to the king, “If it pleases the king, let letters be given me to the governors beyond the River, that they may let me pass through until I come to Judah; 7 Moreover I said unto the king, If it please the king, let letters be given me to the governors beyond the river, that they may convey me over till I come into Judah; 7 わたしはまた王に申しあげた、「もし王がよしとされるならば、川向こうの州の知事たちに与える手紙をわたしに賜わり、わたしがユダに行きつくまで、彼らがわたしを通過させるようにしてください。
2:8 and a letter to Asaph the keeper of the king’s forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the citadel by the temple, for the wall of the city, and for the house that I shall enter into.” The king granted my requests, because of the good hand of my God on me. 8 And a letter unto Asaph the keeper of the king's forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the palace which appertained to the house, and for the wall of the city, and for the house that I shall enter into. And the king granted me, according to the good hand of my God upon me. 8 また王の山林を管理するアサフに与える手紙をも賜わり、神殿に属する城の門を建てるため、また町の石がき、およびわたしの住むべき家を建てるために用いる材木をわたしに与えるようにしてください」。わたしの神がよくわたしを助けられたので、王はわたしの願いを許された。
2:9 Then I came to the governors beyond the River, and gave them the king’s letters. 2:13 I went out by night by the valley gate, even toward the jackal’s well, and to the dung gate, and viewed the walls of Jerusalem, which were broken down, and its gates were consumed with fire. 13 And I went out by night by the gate of the valley, even before the dragon well, and to the dung port, and viewed the walls of Jerusalem, which were broken down, and the gates thereof were consumed with fire. 13 わたしは夜中に出て谷の門を通り、龍の井戸および糞の門に行って、エルサレムのくずれた城壁や、火に焼かれた門を調査し、
2:14 Then I went on to the spring gate and to the king’s pool: but there was no place for the animal that was under me to pass. 14 Then I went on to the gate of the fountain, and to the king's pool: but there was no place for the beast that was under me to pass. 14 また泉の門および王の池に行ったが、わたしの乗っている獣の通るべき所もなかった。

2:16 The rulers didn’t know where I went, or what I did; neither had I as yet told it to the Jews, nor to the priests, nor to the nobles, nor to the rulers, nor to the rest who did the work. 16 And the rulers knew not whither I went, or what I did; neither had I as yet told it to the Jews, nor to the priests, nor to the nobles, nor to the rulers, nor to the rest that did the work. 16 つかさたちは、わたしがどこへ行ったか、何をしたかを知らなかった。わたしはまたユダヤ人にも、祭司たちにも、尊い人たちにも、つかさたちにも、その他工事をする人々にもまだ知らせなかった。
2:17 Then I said to them, “You see the evil case that we are in, how Jerusalem lies waste, and its gates are burned with fire. Come, let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we won’t be disgraced.” 17 Then said I unto them, Ye see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lieth waste, and the gates thereof are burned with fire: come, and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we be no more a reproach. 17 しかしわたしはついに彼らに言った、「あなたがたの見るとおり、われわれは難局にある。エルサレムは荒廃し、その門は火に焼かれた。さあ、われわれは再び世のはずかしめをうけることのないように、エルサレムの城壁を築こう」。
2:18 I told them of the hand of my God which was good on me, as also of the king’s words that he had spoken to me. They said, “Let’s rise up and build.” So they strengthened their hands for the good work. 18 Then I told them of the hand of my God which was good upon me; as also the king's words that he had spoken unto me. And they said, Let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good work. 18 そして、わたしの神がよくわたしを助けられたことを彼らに告げ、また王がわたしに語られた言葉をも告げたので、彼らは「さあ、立ち上がって築こう」と言い、奮い立って、この良きわざに着手しようとした。
2:19 But when Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian, heard it, they ridiculed us, and despised us, and said, “What is this thing that you are doing? Will you rebel against the king?” 19 But when Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian, heard it, they laughed us to scorn, and despised us, and said, What is this thing that ye do? will ye rebel against the king? 19 ところがホロニびとサンバラテ、アンモンびと奴隷トビヤおよびアラビヤびとガシムがこれを聞いて、われわれをあざけり、われわれを侮って言った、「あなたがたは何をするのか、王に反逆しようとするのか」。
2:20 Then answered I them, and said to them, “The God of heaven will prosper us. Therefore we, his servants, will arise and build; but you have no portion, nor right, nor memorial, in Jerusalem.” 20 Then answered I them, and said unto them, The God of heaven, he will prosper us; therefore we his servants will arise and build: but ye have no portion, nor right, nor memorial, in Jerusalem. 20 わたしは彼らに答えて言った、「天の神がわれわれを恵まれるので、そのしもべであるわれわれは奮い立って築くのである。しかしあなたがたはエルサレムに何の分もなく、権利もなく、記念もない」。

Next to them repaired Zadok the son of Baana. 4 And next unto them repaired Meremoth the son of Urijah, the son of Koz. And next unto them repaired Meshullam the son of Berechiah, the son of Meshezabeel. And next unto them repaired Zadok the son of Baana. 4 その次にハッコヅの子ウリヤの子メレモテが修理し、その次にメシザベルの子ベレキヤの子メシュラムが修理し、その次にバアナの子ザドクが修理した。
3:5 Next to them the Tekoites repaired; but their nobles didn’t put their necks to the work of their lord. 5 And next unto them the Tekoites repaired; but their nobles put not their necks to the work of their LORD. 5 その次にテコアびとらが修理したが、その貴人たちはその主の工事に服さなかった。
3:6 The old gate repaired Joiada the son of Paseah and Meshullam the son of Besodeiah; they laid its beams, and set up its doors, and its bolts, and its bars. 6 Moreover the old gate repaired Jehoiada the son of Paseah, and Meshullam the son of Besodeiah; they laid the beams thereof, and set up the doors thereof, and the locks thereof, and the bars thereof. 6 古い門はパセアの子ヨイアダおよびベソデヤの子メシュラムがこれを修理し、その梁を置き、そのとびらと横木と貫の木とを設けた。
3:7 Next to them repaired Melatiah the Gibeonite, and Jadon the Meronothite, the men of Gibeon, and of Mizpah, that appertained to the throne of the governor beyond the River. 7 And next unto them repaired Melatiah the Gibeonite, and Jadon the Meronothite, the men of Gibeon, and of Mizpah, unto the throne of the governor on this side the river. 7 その次にギベオンびとメラテヤ、メロノテびとヤドン、および川向こうの州の知事の行政下にあるギベオンとミヅパの人々が修理した。
3:8 Next to him repaired Uzziel the son of Harhaiah, goldsmiths. 3:10 Next to them repaired Jedaiah the son of Harumaph, over against his house. 3:11 Malchijah the son of Harim, and Hasshub the son of Pahathmoab, repaired another portion, and the tower of the furnaces. 11 Malchijah the son of Harim, and Hashub the son of Pahathmoab, repaired the other piece, and the tower of the furnaces. 11 ハリムの子マルキヤおよびバハテ・モアブの子ハシュブも他の部分および炉の望楼を修理した。

3:14 The dung gate repaired Malchijah the son of Rechab, the ruler of the district of Beth Haccherem; he built it, and set up its doors, its bolts, and its bars. 14 But the dung gate repaired Malchiah the son of Rechab, the ruler of part of Bethhaccerem; he built it, and set up the doors thereof, the locks thereof, and the bars thereof. 14 糞の門はベテ・ハケレムの区域の知事レカブの子マルキヤがこれを修理し、これを建て直して、そのとびらと横木と貫の木とを設けた。
3:15 The spring gate repaired Shallun the son of Colhozeh, the ruler of the district of Mizpah; he built it, and covered it, and set up its doors, its bolts, and its bars, and the wall of the pool of Shelah by the king’s garden, even to the stairs that go down from the city of David. 15 But the gate of the fountain repaired Shallun the son of Colhozeh, the ruler of part of Mizpah; he built it, and covered it, and set up the doors thereof, the locks thereof, and the bars thereof, and the wall of the pool of Siloah by the king's garden, and unto the stairs that go down from the city of David. 15 泉の門はミヅパの区域の知事コロホゼの子シャルンがこれを修理し、これを建て直して、おおいを施し、そのとびらと横木と貫の木とを設けた。彼はまた王の園のほとりのシラの池に沿った石がきを修理して、ダビデの町から下る階段にまで及んだ。
3:16 After him repaired Nehemiah the son of Azbuk, the ruler of half the district of Beth Zur, to the place over against the tombs of David, and to the pool that was made, and to the house of the mighty men. 16 After him repaired Nehemiah the son of Azbuk, the ruler of the half part of Bethzur, unto the place over against the sepulchres of David, and to the pool that was made, and unto the house of the mighty. 16 その後にベテズルの半区域の知事アズブクの子ネヘミヤが修理して、ダビデの墓と向かい合った所に及び、掘池と勇士の宅にまで及んだ。
3:17 After him repaired the Levites, Rehum the son of Bani. 4:17 They all built the wall and those who bore burdens loaded themselves; everyone with one of his hands worked in the work, and with the other held his weapon; 17 They which builded on the wall, and they that bare burdens, with those that laded, every one with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other hand held a weapon. 17 荷を負い運ぶ者はおのおの片手で工事をなし、片手に武器を執った。

4:23 So neither I, nor my brothers, nor my servants, nor the men of the guard who followed me, none of us took off our clothes. 5:3 Some also there were that said, “We are mortgaging our fields, and our vineyards, and our houses. Let us get grain, because of the famine.” 3 Some also there were that said, We have mortgaged our lands, vineyards, and houses, that we might buy corn, because of the dearth. 3 またある人々は言った、「われわれは飢えのために、穀物を得ようと田畑も、ぶどう畑も、家も抵当に入れています」。

5:5 Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brothers, our children as their children. 5:8 I said to them, “We, after our ability, have redeemed our brothers the Jews that were sold to the nations; and would you even sell your brothers, and should they be sold to us?” Then they held their peace, and found never a word. 8 And I said unto them, We after our ability have redeemed our brethren the Jews, which were sold unto the heathen; and will ye even sell your brethren? or shall they be sold unto us? 6:1 Now it happened, when it was reported to Sanballat and Tobiah, and to Geshem the Arabian, and to the rest of our enemies, that I had built the wall, and that there was no breach left therein; (though even to that time I had not set up the doors in the gates;) 1 Now it came to pass when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and Geshem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies, heard that I had builded the wall, and that there was no breach left therein; (though at that time I had not set up the doors upon the gates;) 1 サンバラテ、トビヤ、アラビヤびとガシムおよびその他のわれわれの敵は、わたしが城壁を築き終って、一つの破れも残らないと聞いた。(しかしその時にはまだ門のとびらをつけていなかったのである。)
6:2 that Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, “Come, let us meet together in one of the villages in the plain of Ono.” But they intended to harm me. 2 That Sanballat and Geshem sent unto me, saying, Come, let us meet together in some one of the villages in the plain of Ono. But they thought to do me mischief. 2 そこでサンバラテとガシムはわたしに使者をつかわして言った、「さあ、われわれはオノの平野にある一つの村で会見しよう」と。彼らはわたしに危害を加えようと考えていたのである。
6:3 I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work, so that I can’t come down. Why should the work cease, while I leave it, and come down to you?” 3 And I sent messengers unto them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you? 3 それでわたしは彼らに使者をつかわして言わせた、「わたしは大いなる工事をしているから下って行くことはできない。どうしてこの工事をさしおいて、あなたがたの所へ下って行き、その間、工事をやめることができようか」。
6:4 They sent to me four times after this sort; and I answered them the same way. 4 Yet they sent unto me four times after this sort; and I answered them after the same manner. 4 彼らは四度までこのようにわたしに人をつかわしたが、わたしは同じように彼らに答えた。
6:5 Then Sanballat sent his servant to me the same way the fifth time with an open letter in his hand, 5 Then sent Sanballat his servant unto me in like manner the fifth time with an open letter in his hand; 5 ところが、サンバラテは五度目にそのしもべを前のようにわたしにつかわした。その手には開封の手紙を携えていた。
6:6 in which was written, “It is reported among the nations, and Gashmu says it, that you and the Jews intend to rebel. Because of that, you are building the wall. You would be their king, according to these words. 6 Wherein was written, It is reported among the heathen, and Gashmu saith it, that thou and the Jews think to rebel: for which cause thou buildest the wall, that thou mayest be their king, according to these words. 6 その中に次のようにしるしてあった、「諸国民の間に言い伝えられ、またガシムも言っているが、あなたはユダヤ人と共に反乱を企て、これがために城壁を築いている。またその言うところによれば、あなたは彼らの王になろうとしている。
6:7 You have also appointed prophets to preach of you at Jerusalem, saying, ‘There is a king in Judah!’ Now it will be reported to the king according to these words. Come now therefore, and let us take counsel together.” 7 And thou hast also appointed prophets to preach of thee at Jerusalem, saying, There is a king in Judah: and now shall it be reported to the king according to these words. Come now therefore, and let us take counsel together. 7 またあなたは預言者を立てて、あなたのことをエルサレムにのべ伝えさせ、『ユダに王がある』と言わせているが、そのことはこの言葉のとおり王に聞えるでしょう。それゆえ、今おいでなさい。われわれは共に相談しましょう」。
6:8 Then I sent to him, saying, “There are no such things done as you say, but you imagine them out of your own heart.” 8 Then I sent unto him, saying, There are no such things done as thou sayest, but thou feignest them out of thine own heart. 8 そこでわたしは彼に人をつかわして言わせた、「あなたの言うようなことはしていません。あなたはそれを自分の心から造り出したのです」と。
6:9 For they all would have made us afraid, saying, “Their hands will be weakened from the work, that it not be done. But now, God, strengthen my hands.” 9 For they all made us afraid, saying, Their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it be not done. Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands. 9 彼らはみな「彼らの手が弱って工事をやめるようになれば、工事は成就しないだろう」と考えて、われわれをおどそうとしたのである。しかし神よ、どうぞいまわたしの手を強めてください。
6:10 I went to the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah the son of Mehetabel, who was shut in at his home; and he said, “Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple, and let us shut the doors of the temple; for they will come to kill you; yes, in the night will they come to kill you.” 10 Afterward I came unto the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah the son of Mehetabeel, who was shut up; and he said, Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple, and let us shut the doors of the temple: for they will come to slay thee; yea, in the night will they come to slay thee. 10 さてわたしはメヘタベルの子デラヤの子シマヤの家に行ったところ、彼は閉じこもっていて言った、「われわれは神の宮すなわち神殿の中で会合し、神殿の戸を閉じておきましょう。彼らはあなたを殺そうとして来るからです。きっと夜のうちにあなたを殺そうとして来るでしょう」。
6:11 I said, “Should such a man as I flee? Who is there that, being such as I, would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in. 11 わたしは言った、「わたしのような者がどうして逃げられよう。わたしのような者でだれが神殿にはいって命を全うすることができよう。わたしははいらない」。
6:12 I discerned, and behold, God had not sent him; but he pronounced this prophecy against me. Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him. 12 And, lo, I perceived that God had not sent him; but that he pronounced this prophecy against me: for Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him. 12 わたしは悟った。神が彼をつかわされたのではない。彼がわたしにむかってこの預言を伝えたのは、トビヤとサンバラテが彼を買収したためである。
6:13 He hired so that I would be afraid, do so, and sin, and that they might have material for an evil report, that they might reproach me. 13 Therefore was he hired, that I should be afraid, and do so, and sin, and that they might have matter for an evil report, that they might reproach me. 13 彼が買収されたのはこの事のためである。すなわちわたしを恐れさせ、わたしにこのようにさせて、罪を犯させ、わたしに悪名をきせて侮辱するためであった。
6:14“Remember, my God, Tobiah and Sanballat according to these their works, and also the prophetess Noadiah, and the rest of the prophets, that would have put me in fear.” 14 My God, think thou upon Tobiah and Sanballat according to these their works, and on the prophetess Noadiah, and the rest of the prophets, that would have put me in fear. 14 わが神よ、トビヤ、サンバラテおよび女預言者ノアデヤならびにその他の預言者など、すべてわたしを恐れさせようとする者たちをおぼえて、彼らが行ったこれらのわざに報いてください。

6:16 It happened, when all our enemies heard of it, that all the nations that were about us feared, and were much cast down in their own eyes; for they perceived that this work was worked of our God. 16 And it came to pass, that when all our enemies heard thereof, and all the heathen that were about us saw these things, they were much cast down in their own eyes: for they perceived that this work was wrought of our God. 16 われわれの敵が皆これを聞いた時、われわれの周囲の異邦人はみな恐れ、大いに面目を失った。彼らはこの工事が、われわれの神の助けによって成就したことを悟ったからである。

6:18 For there were many in Judah sworn to him, because he was the son-in-law of Shecaniah the son of Arah; and his son Jehohanan had taken the daughter of Meshullam the son of Berechiah as wife. 18 For there were many in Judah sworn unto him, because he was the son in law of Shechaniah the son of Arah; and his son Johanan had taken the daughter of Meshullam the son of Berechiah. 18 トビヤはアラの子シカニヤの婿であったので、ユダのうちの多くの者が彼と誓いを立てていたからである。トビヤの子ヨハナンもベレキヤの子メシュラムの娘を妻にめとった。
6:19 Also they spoke of his good deeds before me, and reported my words to him. Tobiah sent letters to put me in fear. 19 Also they reported his good deeds before me, and uttered my words to him. 7:3 I said to them, “Don’t let the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun is hot; and while they stand guard, let them shut the doors, and you bar them: and appoint watches of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, everyone in his watch, with everyone near his house.” 3 And I said unto them, Let not the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun be hot; and while they stand by, let them shut the doors, and bar them: and appoint watches of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, every one in his watch, and every one to be over against his house. 3 わたしは彼らに言った、「日の暑くなるまではエルサレムのもろもろの門を開いてはならない。人々が立って守っている間に門を閉じさせ、貫の木を差せ。またエルサレムの住民の中から番兵を立てて、おのおのにその所を守らせ、またおのおのの家と向かい合う所を守らせよ」。

Don’t mourn, nor weep.” For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law. 9 And Nehemiah, which is the Tirshatha, and Ezra the priest the scribe, and the Levites that taught the people, said unto all the people, This day is holy unto the LORD your God; mourn not, nor weep. 8:10 Then he said to them, “Go your way. Eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. 8:18 Also day by day, from the first day to the last day, he read in the book of the law of God. 9:6 You are Yahweh, even you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their army, the earth and all things that are on it, the seas and all that is in them, and you preserve them all. Yet you bring more wrath on Israel by profaning the Sabbath.” 18 Did not your fathers thus, and did not our God bring all this evil upon us, and upon this city? yet ye bring more wrath upon Israel by profaning the sabbath. 18 あなたがたの先祖も、このように行ったので、われわれの神はこのすべての災を、われわれとこの町に下されたではないか。ところがあなたがたは安息日を汚して、さらに大いなる怒りをイスラエルの上に招くのである」。
13:19 It came to pass that, when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the Sabbath, I commanded that the doors should be shut, and commanded that they should not be opened until after the Sabbath. I set some of my servants over the gates, that no burden should be brought in on the Sabbath day. 19 And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and some of my servants set I at the gates, that there should no burden be brought in on the sabbath day. 19 そこで安息日の前に、エルサレムのもろもろの門が暗くなり始めた時、わたしは命じてそのとびらを閉じさせ、安息日が終るまでこれを開いてはならないと命じ、わたしのしもべ数人を門に置いて、安息日に荷を携え入れさせないようにした。

13:21 Then I testified against them, and said to them, “Why do you stay around the wall? 13:22 I commanded the Levites that they should purify themselves, and that they should come and keep the gates, to sanctify the Sabbath day. 13:26 Didn’t Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? Yet among many nations was there no king like him, and he was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel. 13:27 Shall we then listen to you to do all this great evil, to trespass against our God in marrying foreign women?” 27 Shall we then hearken unto you to do all this great evil, to transgress against our God in marrying strange wives? 27 それゆえあなたがたが異邦の女をめとり、このすべての大いなる悪を行って、われわれの神に罪を犯すのを、われわれは聞き流しにしておけようか」。
