1 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's chosen ones, and the knowledge of the truth which is according to godliness, 1 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness; 1:1 神の僕、イエス・キリストの使徒パウロから―わたしが使徒とされたのは、神に選ばれた者たちの信仰を強め、また、信心にかなう真理の知識を彼らに得させるためであり、

5 I left you in Crete for this reason, that you would set in order the things that were lacking, and appoint elders in every city, as I directed you; 5 For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee: 1:5 あなたをクレテにおいてきたのは、わたしがあなたに命じておいたように、そこにし残してあることを整理してもらい、また、町々に長老を立ててもらうためにほかならない。
6 if anyone is blameless, the husband of one wife, having children who believe, who are not accused of loose or unruly behavior. 6 If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly. 1:6 長老は、責められる点がなく、ひとりの妻の夫であって、その子たちも不品行のうわさをたてられず、親不孝をしない信者でなくてはならない。
7 For the overseer must be blameless, as God's steward; not self-pleasing, not easily angered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for dishonest gain; 7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; 1:7 監督たる者は、神に仕える者として、責められる点がなく、わがままでなく、軽々しく怒らず、酒を好まず、乱暴でなく、利をむさぼらず、

15 To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure; but both their mind and their conscience are defiled. 15 Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled. 1:15 きよい人には、すべてのものがきよい。しかし、汚れている不信仰な人には、きよいものは一つもなく、その知性も良心も汚れてしまっている。

1 But say the things which fit sound doctrine, 1 But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine: 2:1 しかし、あなたは、健全な教にかなうことを語りなさい。
2 that older men should be temperate, sensible, sober minded, sound in faith, in love, and in patience: 2 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience. 2:2 老人たちには自らを制し、謹厳で、慎み深くし、また、信仰と愛と忍耐とにおいて健全であるように勧め、
3 and that older women likewise be reverent in behavior, not slanderers nor enslaved to much wine, teachers of that which is good; 3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; 2:3 年老いた女たちにも、同じように、たち居ふるまいをうやうやしくし、人をそしったり大酒の奴隷になったりせず、良いことを教える者となるように、勧めなさい。
4 that they may train the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, 4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, 2:4 そうすれば、彼女たちは、若い女たちに、夫を愛し、子供を愛し、
5 to be sober minded, chaste, workers at home, kind, being in subjection to their own husbands, that God's word may not be blasphemed. 5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. 2:5 慎み深く、純潔で、家事に努め、善良で、自分の夫に従順であるように教えることになり、したがって、神の言がそしりを受けないようになるであろう。

1 Remind them to be in subjection to rulers and to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, 1 Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work, 3:1 あなたは彼らに勧めて、支配者、権威ある者に服し、これに従い、いつでも良いわざをする用意があり、

4 But when the kindness of God our Savior and his love toward mankind appeared, 4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, 3:4 ところが、わたしたちの救主なる神の慈悲と博愛とが現れたとき、

8 This saying is faithful, and concerning these things I desire that you affirm confidently, so that those who have believed God may be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men; 8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men. 3:8 この言葉は確実である。わたしは、あなたがそれらのことを主張するのを願っている。それは、神を信じている者たちが、努めて良いわざを励むことを心がけるようになるためである。これは良いことであって、人々の益となる。
9 but shun foolish questionings, genealogies, strife, and disputes about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain. 9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain. 3:9 しかし、愚かな議論と、系図と、争いと、律法についての論争とを、避けなさい。それらは無益かつ空虚なことである。
10 Avoid a factious man after a first and second warning; 10 A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject; 3:10 異端者は、一、二度、訓戒を加えた上で退けなさい。
11 knowing that such a one is perverted, and sins, being self-condemned. 11 Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself. 3:11 たしかに、こういう人たちは、邪道に陥り、自ら悪と知りつつも、罪を犯しているからである。
12 When I send Artemas to you, or Tychicus, be diligent to come to me to Nicopolis, for I have determined to winter there. 12 When I shall send Artemas unto thee, or Tychicus, be diligent to come unto me to Nicopolis: for I have determined there to winter. 3:12 わたしがアルテマスかテキコかをあなたのところに送ったなら、急いでニコポリにいるわたしの所にきなさい。わたしは、そこで冬を過ごすことにした。
13 Send Zenas, the lawyer, and Apollos on their journey speedily, that nothing may be lacking for them. 13 Bring Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their journey diligently, that nothing be wanting unto them. 3:13 法学者ゼナスと、アポロとを、急いで旅につかせ、不自由のないようにしてあげなさい。
