1 Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, to the assembly of the Thessalonians in God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ: 1 Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: 1:1 パウロとシルワノとテモテから、わたしたちの父なる神と主イエス・キリストとにあるテサロニケ人たちの教会へ。
2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Grace unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 1:2 父なる神と主イエス・キリストから、恵みと平安とが、あなたがたにあるように。

5 This is an obvious sign of the righteous judgment of God, to the end that you may be counted worthy of the Kingdom of God, for which you also suffer. 5 Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer: 1:5 これは、あなたがたを、神の国にふさわしい者にしようとする神のさばきが正しいことを、証拠だてるものである。その神の国のために、あなたがたも苦しんでいるのである。
6 Since it is a righteous thing with God to repay affliction to those who afflict you, 6 Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; 1:6 すなわち、あなたがたを悩ます者には患難をもって報い、悩まされているあなたがたには、わたしたちと共に、休息をもって報いて下さるのが、神にとって正しいことだからである。
7 and to give relief to you who are afflicted with us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire, 7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 1:7 それは、主イエスが炎の中で力ある天使たちを率いて天から現れる時に実現する。
8 giving vengeance to those who don't know God, and to those who don't obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus, 8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: 1:8 その時、主は神を認めない者たちや、わたしたちの主イエスの福音に聞き従わない者たちに報復し、

1 Now, brothers, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our gathering together to him, we ask you 1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, 2:1 さて兄弟たちよ。わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの来臨と、わたしたちがみもとに集められることとについて、あなたがたにお願いすることがある。
2 not to be quickly shaken in your mind, nor yet be troubled, either by spirit, or by word, or by letter as from us, saying that the day of Christ had come. 2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. 2:2 霊により、あるいは言葉により、あるいはわたしたちから出たという手紙によって、主の日はすでにきたとふれまわる者があっても、すぐさま心を動かされたり、あわてたりしてはいけない。
3 Let no one deceive you in any way. For it will not be, unless the departure comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of destruction, 3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 2:3 だれがどんな事をしても、それにだまされてはならない。まず背教のことが起り、不法の者、すなわち、滅びの子が現れるにちがいない。
4 he who opposes and exalts himself against all that is called God or that is worshiped; so that he sits as God in the temple of God, setting himself up as God. 4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. 2:4 彼は、すべて神と呼ばれたり拝まれたりするものに反抗して立ち上がり、自ら神の宮に座して、自分は神だと宣言する。
5 Don't you remember that, when I was still with you, I told you these things? 5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? 2:5 わたしがまだあなたがたの所にいた時、これらの事をくり返して言ったのを思い出さないのか。
6 Now you know what is restraining him, to the end that he may be revealed in his own season. 6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. 2:6 そして、あなたがたが知っているとおり、彼が自分に定められた時になってから現れるように、いま彼を阻止しているものがある。

13 But we are bound to always give thanks to God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief in the truth; 13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: 2:13 しかし、主に愛されている兄弟たちよ。わたしたちはいつもあなたがたのことを、神に感謝せずにはおられない。それは、神があなたがたを初めから選んで、御霊によるきよめと、真理に対する信仰とによって、救を得させようとし、

1 Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may spread rapidly and be glorified, even as also with you; 1 Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: 3:1 最後に、兄弟たちよ。わたしたちのために祈ってほしい。どうか主の言葉が、あなたがたの所と同じように、ここでも早く広まり、また、あがめられるように。
2 and that we may be delivered from unreasonable and evil men; for not all have faith. 2 And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith. 3:2 また、どうか、わたしたちが不都合な悪人から救われるように。事実、すべての人が信仰を持っているわけではない。
3 But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you, and guard you from the evil one. 3 But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil. 3:3 しかし、主は真実なかたであるから、あなたがたを強め、悪しき者から守って下さるであろう。
4 We have confidence in the Lord concerning you, that you both do and will do the things we command. 4 And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you. 3:4 わたしたちが命じる事を、あなたがたは現に実行しており、また、実行するであろうと、わたしたちは、主にあって確信している。
5 May the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patience of Christ. 5 And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ. 3:5 どうか、主があなたがたの心を導いて、神の愛とキリストの忍耐とを持たせて下さるように。
6 Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw yourselves from every brother who walks in rebellion, and not after the tradition which they received from us. 6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us. 3:6 兄弟たちよ。主イエス・キリストの名によってあなたがたに命じる。怠惰な生活をして、わたしたちから受けた言伝えに従わないすべての兄弟たちから、遠ざかりなさい。
7 For you know how you ought to imitate us. For we didn't behave ourselves rebelliously among you, 7 For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you; 3:7 わたしたちに、どうならうべきであるかは、あなたがた自身が知っているはずである。あなたがたの所にいた時には、わたしたちは怠惰な生活をしなかったし、
8 neither did we eat bread from anyone's hand without paying for it, but in labor and travail worked night and day, that we might not burden any of you; 8 Neither did we eat any man's bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you: 3:8 人からパンをもらって食べることもしなかった。それどころか、あなたがたのだれにも負担をかけまいと、日夜、労苦し努力して働き続けた。
9 not because we don't have the right, but to make ourselves an example to you, that you should imitate us. 9 Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us. 3:9 それは、わたしたちにその権利がないからではなく、ただわたしたちにあなたがたが見習うように、身をもって模範を示したのである。
10 For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: "If anyone will not work, neither let him eat." 10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. 3:10 また、あなたがたの所にいた時に、「働こうとしない者は、食べることもしてはならない」と命じておいた。
11 For we hear of some who walk among you in rebellion, who don't work at all, but are busybodies. 11 For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. 3:11 ところが、聞くところによると、あなたがたのうちのある者は怠惰な生活を送り、働かないで、ただいたずらに動きまわっているとのことである。
12 Now those who are that way, we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread. 12 Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread. 3:12 こうした人々に対しては、静かに働いて自分で得たパンを食べるように、主イエス・キリストによって命じまた勧める。
13 But you, brothers, don't be weary in doing well. 13 But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing. 3:13 兄弟たちよ。あなたがたは、たゆまずに良い働きをしなさい。
14 If any man doesn't obey our word in this letter, note that man, that you have no company with him, to the end that he may be ashamed. 14 And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed. 3:14 もしこの手紙にしるしたわたしたちの言葉に聞き従わない人があれば、そのような人には注意をして、交際しないがよい。彼が自ら恥じるようになるためである。
15 Don't count him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother. 15 Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother. 3:15 しかし、彼を敵のように思わないで、兄弟として訓戒しなさい。
