1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus through the will of God, and Timothy our brother, to the assembly of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints who are in the whole of Achaia: 1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints which are in all Achaia: 1:1 神の御旨によりキリスト・イエスの使徒となったパウロと、兄弟テモテとから、コリントにある神の教会、ならびにアカヤ全土にいるすべての聖徒たちへ。
2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. 1:2 わたしたちの父なる神と主イエス・キリストから、恵みと平安とが、あなたがたにあるように。
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; 3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; 1:3 ほむべきかな、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの父なる神、あわれみ深き父、慰めに満ちたる神。

6 But if we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation. If we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer. 6 And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. 1:6 わたしたちが患難に会うなら、それはあなたがたの慰めと救とのためであり、慰めを受けるなら、それはあなたがたの慰めのためであって、その慰めは、わたしたちが受けているのと同じ苦難に耐えさせる力となるのである。

8 For we don't desire to have you uninformed,brothers, concerning our affliction which happened to us in Asia, that we were weighed down exceedingly, beyond our power, so much that we despaired even of life. 8 For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life: 1:8 兄弟たちよ。わたしたちがアジヤで会った患難を、知らずにいてもらいたくない。わたしたちは極度に、耐えられないほど圧迫されて、生きる望みをさえ失ってしまい、
9 Yes, we ourselves have had the sentence of death within ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead, 9 But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead: 1:9 心のうちで死を覚悟し、自分自身を頼みとしないで、死人をよみがえらせて下さる神を頼みとするに至った。
10 who delivered us out of so great a death, and does deliver; on whom we have set our hope that he will also still deliver us; 10 Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us; 1:10 神はこのような死の危険から、わたしたちを救い出して下さった、また救い出して下さるであろう。わたしたちは、神が今後も救い出して下さることを望んでいる。
11 you also helping together on our behalf by your supplication; that, for the gift bestowed on us by means of many, thanks may be given by many persons on your behalf. 11 Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf. 1:11 そして、あなたがたもまた祈をもって、ともどもに、わたしたちを助けてくれるであろう。これは多くの人々の願いによりわたしたちに賜わった恵みについて、多くの人が感謝をささげるようになるためである。
12 For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience, that in holiness and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God we behaved ourselves in the world, and more abundantly toward you. 12 For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward. 1:12 さて、わたしたちがこの世で、ことにあなたがたに対し、人間の知恵によってではなく神の恵みによって、神の神聖と真実とによって行動してきたことは、実にわたしたちの誇であって、良心のあかしするところである。
13 For we write no other things to you, than what you read or even acknowledge, and I hope you will acknowledge to the end; 13 For we write none other things unto you, than what ye read or acknowledge; and I trust ye shall acknowledge even to the end; 1:13 わたしたちが書いていることは、あなたがたが読んで理解できないことではない。それを完全に理解してくれるように、わたしは希望する。

17 When I therefore was thus determined, did I show fickleness? Or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be the "Yes, yes" and the "No, no?" 17 When I therefore was thus minded, did I use lightness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be yea yea, and nay nay? 1:17 この計画を立てたのは、軽率なことであったであろうか。それとも、自分の計画を肉の思いによって計画したため、わたしの「しかり、しかり」が同時に「否、否」であったのだろうか。

19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, by me, Silvanus, and Timothy, was not "Yes and no," but in him is "Yes." 19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea. 1:19 なぜなら、わたしたち、すなわち、わたしとシルワノとテモテとが、あなたがたに宣べ伝えた神の子キリスト・イエスは、「しかり」となると同時に「否」となったのではない。そうではなく、「しかり」がイエスにおいて実現されたのである。
20 For however many are the promises of God, in him is the "Yes." 22 who also sealed us, and gave us the down payment of the Spirit in our hearts. 22 Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts. 1:22 神はまた、わたしたちに証印をおし、その保証として、わたしたちの心に御霊を賜わったのである。
23 But I call God for a witness to my soul, that I didn't come to Corinth to spare you. 23 Moreover I call God for a record upon my soul, that to spare you I came not as yet unto Corinth. 1:23 わたしは自分の魂をかけ、神を証人に呼び求めて言うが、わたしがコリントに行かないでいるのは、あなたがたに対して寛大でありたいためである。
24 Not that we have lordship over your faith, but are fellow workers with you for your joy. For you stand firm in faith. 24 Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand. 1:24 わたしたちは、あなたがたの信仰を支配する者ではなく、あなたがたの喜びのために共に働いている者にすぎない。あなたがたは、信仰に堅く立っているからである。

1 But I determined this for myself, that I would not come to you again in sorrow. 1 But I determined this with myself, that I would not come again to you in heaviness. 2:1 そこでわたしは、あなたがたの所に再び悲しみをもって行くことはすまいと、決心したのである。
2 For if I make you sorry, then who will make me glad but he who is made sorry by me? 2 For if I make you sorry, who is he then that maketh me glad, but the same which is made sorry by me? 2:2 もしあなたがたを悲しませるとすれば、わたしが悲しませているその人以外に、だれがわたしを喜ばせてくれるのか。
3 And I wrote this very thing to you, so that, when I came, I wouldn't have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy would be shared by all of you. 3 And I wrote this same unto you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all. 2:3 このような事を書いたのは、わたしが行く時、わたしを喜ばせてくれるはずの人々から、悲しい思いをさせられたくないためである。わたし自身の喜びはあなたがた全体の喜びであることを、あなたがたすべてについて確信しているからである。
4 For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you with many tears, not that you should be made sorry, but that you might know the love that I have so abundantly for you. 4 For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you. 2:4 わたしは大きな患難と心の憂いの中から、多くの涙をもってあなたがたに書きおくった。それは、あなたがたを悲しませるためではなく、あなたがたに対してあふれるばかりにいだいているわたしの愛を、知ってもらうためであった。
5 But if any has caused sorrow, he has caused sorrow, not to me, but in part (that I notpress too heavily) to you all. 5 But if any have caused grief, he hath not grieved me, but in part: that I may not overcharge you all. 2:5 しかし、もしだれかが人を悲しませたとすれば、それはわたしを悲しませたのではなく、控え目に言うが、ある程度、あなたがた一同を悲しませたのである。
6 Sufficient to such a one is this punishment which was inflicted by the many; 6 Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted of many. 2:6 その人にとっては、多数の者から受けたあの処罰でもう十分なのだから、
7 so that on the contrary you should rather forgive him and comfort him, lest by any means such a one should be swallowed up with his excessive sorrow. 7 So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow. 2:7 あなたがたはむしろ彼をゆるし、また慰めてやるべきである。そうしないと、その人はますます深い悲しみに沈むかも知れない。
8 Therefore I beg you to confirm your love toward him. 8 Wherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm your love toward him. 2:8 そこでわたしは、彼に対して愛を示すように、あなたがたに勧める。
9 For to this end I also wrote, that I might know the proof of you, whether you are obedient in all things. 9 For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things. 2:9 わたしが書きおくったのも、あなたがたがすべての事について従順であるかどうかを、ためすためにほかならなかった。
10 Now I also forgive whomever you forgive anything. For if indeed I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven that one for your sakes in the presence of Christ, 10 To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ; 2:10 もしあなたがたが、何かのことについて人をゆるすなら、わたしもまたゆるそう。そして、もしわたしが何かのことでゆるしたとすれば、それは、あなたがたのためにキリストのみまえでゆるしたのである。
11 that no advantage may be gained over us by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his schemes. 11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. 2:11 そうするのは、サタンに欺かれることのないためである。わたしたちは、彼の策略を知らないわけではない。
12 Now when I came to Troas for the Good News of Christ, and when a door was opened to me in the Lord, 12 Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ's gospel, and a door was opened unto me of the Lord, 2:12 さて、キリストの福音のためにトロアスに行ったとき、わたしのために主の門が開かれたにもかかわらず、

14 Now thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and reveals through us the sweet aroma of his knowledge in every place. 14 Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. 2:14 しかるに、神は感謝すべきかな。神はいつもわたしたちをキリストの凱旋に伴い行き、わたしたちをとおしてキリストを知る知識のかおりを、至る所に放って下さるのである。
15 For we are a sweet aroma of Christ to God, in those who are saved, and in those who perish; 15 For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish: 2:15 わたしたちは、救われる者にとっても滅びる者にとっても、神に対するキリストのかおりである。
16 to the one a stench from death to death; to the other a sweet aroma from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things? 16 To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things? 2:16 後者にとっては、死から死に至らせるかおりであり、前者にとっては、いのちからいのちに至らせるかおりである。いったい、このような任務に、だれが耐え得ようか。
17 For we are not as so many, peddling the word of God. But as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God, we speak in Christ. 17 For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ. 2:17 しかし、わたしたちは、多くの人のように神の言を売物にせず、真心をこめて、神につかわされた者として神のみまえで、キリストにあって語るのである。

1 Are we beginning again to commend ourselves? Or do we need, as do some, letters of commendation to you or from you? 1 Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you? 3:1 わたしたちは、またもや、自己推薦をし始めているのだろうか。それとも、ある人々のように、あなたがたにあてた、あるいは、あなたがたからの推薦状が必要なのだろうか。
2 You are our letter, written in our hearts, known and read by all men; 2 Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men: 3:2 わたしたちの推薦状は、あなたがたなのである。それは、わたしたちの心にしるされていて、すべての人に知られ、かつ読まれている。
3 being revealed that you are a letter of Christ, served by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tablets of stone, but in tablets that are hearts of flesh. 3 Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart. 3:3 そして、あなたがたは自分自身が、わたしたちから送られたキリストの手紙であって、墨によらず生ける神の霊によって書かれ、石の板にではなく人の心の板に書かれたものであることを、はっきりとあらわしている。
4 Such confidence we have through Christ toward God; 4 And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward: 3:4 こうした確信を、わたしたちはキリストにより神に対していだいている。
5 not that we are sufficient of ourselves, to account anything as from ourselves; but our sufficiency is from God; 5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; 3:5 もちろん、自分自身で事を定める力が自分にある、と言うのではない。わたしたちのこうした力は、神からきている。
6 who also made us sufficient as servants of a new covenant; not of the letter, but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. 6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. 3:6 神はわたしたちに力を与えて、新しい契約に仕える者とされたのである。それは、文字に仕える者ではなく、霊に仕える者である。文字は人を殺し、霊は人を生かす。
7 But if the service of death, written engraved on stones, came with glory, so that the children of Israel could not look steadfastly on the face of Moses for the glory of his face; which was passing away: 7 But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away: 3:7 もし石に彫りつけた文字による死の務が栄光のうちに行われ、そのためイスラエルの子らは、モーセの顔の消え去るべき栄光のゆえに、その顔を見つめることができなかったとすれば、
8 won't service of the Spirit be with much more glory? 8 How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious? 3:8 まして霊の務は、はるかに栄光あるものではなかろうか。
9 For if the service of condemnation has glory, the service of righteousness exceeds much more in glory. 9 For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory. 3:9 もし罪を宣告する務が栄光あるものだとすれば、義を宣告する務は、はるかに栄光に満ちたものである。
10 For most certainly that which has been made glorious has not been made glorious in this respect, by reason of the glory that surpasses. 10 For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth. 3:10 そして、すでに栄光を受けたものも、この場合、はるかにまさった栄光のまえに、その栄光を失ったのである。
11 For if that which passes away was with glory, much more that which remains is in glory. 11 For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious. 3:11 もし消え去るべきものが栄光をもって現れたのなら、まして永存すべきものは、もっと栄光のあるべきものである。
12 Having therefore such a hope, we use great boldness of speech, 12 Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech: 3:12 こうした望みをいだいているので、わたしたちは思いきって大胆に語り、
13 and not as Moses, who put a veil on his face, that the children of Israel wouldn't look steadfastly on the end of that which was passing away. 13 And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: 3:13 そしてモーセが、消え去っていくものの最後をイスラエルの子らに見られまいとして、顔におおいをかけたようなことはしない。
14 But their minds were hardened, for until this very day at the reading of the old covenant the same veil remains, because in Christ it passes away. 14 But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ. 3:14 実際、彼らの思いは鈍くなっていた。今日に至るまで、彼らが古い契約を朗読する場合、その同じおおいが取り去られないままで残っている。それは、キリストにあってはじめて取り除かれるのである。

17 Now the Lord is the Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 3:17 主は霊である。そして、主の霊のあるところには、自由がある。
18 But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord, the Spirit. 18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. 3:18 わたしたちはみな、顔おおいなしに、主の栄光を鏡に映すように見つつ、栄光から栄光へと、主と同じ姿に変えられていく。これは霊なる主の働きによるのである。

1 Therefore seeing we have this ministry, even as we obtained mercy, we don't faint. 1 Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; 4:1 このようにわたしたちは、あわれみを受けてこの務についているのだから、落胆せずに、
2 But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by the manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. 2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. 4:2 恥ずべき隠れたことを捨て去り、悪巧みによって歩かず、神の言を曲げず、真理を明らかにし、神のみまえに、すべての人の良心に自分を推薦するのである。
3 Even if our Good News is veiled, it is veiled in those who perish; 3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4:3 もしわたしたちの福音がおおわれているなら、滅びる者どもにとっておおわれているのである。
4 in whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the Good News of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn on them. 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. 4:4 彼らの場合、この世の神が不信の者たちの思いをくらませて、神のかたちであるキリストの栄光の福音の輝きを、見えなくしているのである。
5 For we don't preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake; 5 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake. 4:5 しかし、わたしたちは自分自身を宣べ伝えるのではなく、主なるキリスト・イエスを宣べ伝える。わたしたち自身は、ただイエスのために働くあなたがたの僕にすぎない。
6 seeing it is God who said, "Light will shine out of darkness," who has shone in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 4:6 「やみの中から光が照りいでよ」と仰せになった神は、キリストの顔に輝く神の栄光の知識を明らかにするために、わたしたちの心を照して下さったのである。
7 But we have this treasure in clay vessels, that the exceeding greatness of the power may be of God, and not from ourselves. 7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. 4:7 しかしわたしたちは、この宝を土の器の中に持っている。その測り知れない力は神のものであって、わたしたちから出たものでないことが、あらわれるためである。
8 We are pressed on every side, yet not crushed; perplexed, yet not to despair; 8 We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 4:8 わたしたちは、四方から患難を受けても窮しない。途方にくれても行き詰まらない。
9 pursued, yet not forsaken; struck down, yet not destroyed; 9 Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; 4:9 迫害に会っても見捨てられない。倒されても滅びない。
10 always carrying in the body the putting to death of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. 10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. 4:10 いつもイエスの死をこの身に負うている。それはまた、イエスのいのちが、この身に現れるためである。
11 For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus may be revealed in our mortal flesh. 11 For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. 4:11 わたしたち生きている者は、イエスのために絶えず死に渡されているのである。それはイエスのいのちが、わたしたちの死ぬべき肉体に現れるためである。
12 So then death works in us, but life in you. 12 So then death worketh in us, but life in you. 4:12 こうして、死はわたしたちのうちに働き、いのちはあなたがたのうちに働くのである。
13 But having the same spirit of faith, according to that which is written, "I believed, and therefore I spoke." We also believe, and therefore also we speak; 13 We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak; 4:13 「わたしは信じた。それゆえに語った」としるしてあるとおり、それと同じ信仰の霊を持っているので、わたしたちも信じている。それゆえに語るのである。
14 knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus, and will present us with you. 14 Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you. 4:14 それは、主イエスをよみがえらせたかたが、わたしたちをもイエスと共によみがえらせ、そして、あなたがたと共にみまえに立たせて下さることを、知っているからである。
15 For all things are for your sakes, that the grace, being multiplied through the many, may cause the thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God. 15 For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. 4:15 すべてのことは、あなたがたの益であって、恵みがますます多くの人に増し加わるにつれ、感謝が満ちあふれて、神の栄光となるのである。
16 Therefore we don't faint, but though our outward man is decaying, yet our inward man is renewed day by day. 16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. 4:16 だから、わたしたちは落胆しない。たといわたしたちの外なる人は滅びても、内なる人は日ごとに新しくされていく。
17 For our light affliction, which is for the moment, works for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory; 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; 4:17 なぜなら、このしばらくの軽い患難は働いて、永遠の重い栄光を、あふれるばかりにわたしたちに得させるからである。
18 while we don't look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. 1 For we know that if the earthly house of our tent is dissolved, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal, in the heavens. 1 For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 5:1 わたしたちの住んでいる地上の幕屋がこわれると、神からいただく建物、すなわち天にある、人の手によらない永遠の家が備えてあることを、わたしたちは知っている。
2 For most certainly in this we groan, longing to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven; 2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: 5:2 そして、天から賜わるそのすみかを、上に着ようと切に望みながら、この幕屋の中で苦しみもだえている。
3 if so be that being clothed we will not be found naked. 3 If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. 5:3 それを着たなら、裸のままではいないことになろう。
4 For indeed we who are in this tent do groan, being burdened; not that we desire to be unclothed, but that we desire to be clothed, that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. 4 For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life. 5:4 この幕屋の中にいるわたしたちは、重荷を負って苦しみもだえている。それを脱ごうと願うからではなく、その上に着ようと願うからであり、それによって、死ぬべきものがいのちにのまれてしまうためである。
5 Now he who made us for this very thing is God, who also gave to us the down payment of the Spirit. 5 Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. 5:5 わたしたちを、この事にかなう者にして下さったのは、神である。そして、神はその保証として御霊をわたしたちに賜わったのである。
6 Therefore, we are always confident and know that while we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord; 6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: 5:6 だから、わたしたちはいつも心強い。そして、肉体を宿としている間は主から離れていることを、よく知っている。
7 for we walk by faith, not by sight. 7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) 5:7 わたしたちは、見えるものによらないで、信仰によって歩いているのである。

9 Therefore also we make it our aim, whether at home or absent, to be well pleasing to him. 9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. 5:9 そういうわけだから、肉体を宿としているにしても、それから離れているにしても、ただ主に喜ばれる者となるのが、心からの願いである。
10 For we must all be revealed before the judgment seat of Christ; that each one may receive the things in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. 5:10 なぜなら、わたしたちは皆、キリストのさばきの座の前にあらわれ、善であれ悪であれ、自分の行ったことに応じて、それぞれ報いを受けねばならないからである。
11 Knowing therefore the fear of the Lord, we persuade men, but we are revealed to God; and I hope that we are revealed also in your consciences. 11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences. 5:11 このようにわたしたちは、主の恐るべきことを知っているので、人々に説き勧める。わたしたちのことは、神のみまえには明らかになっている。さらに、あなたがたの良心にも明らかになるようにと望む。
12 For we are not commending ourselves to you again, but speak as giving you occasion of boasting on our behalf, that you may have something to answer those who boast in appearance, and not in heart. 12 For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart. 5:12 わたしたちは、あなたがたに対して、またもや自己推薦をしようとするのではない。ただわたしたちを誇る機会を、あなたがたに持たせ、心を誇るのではなくうわべだけを誇る人々に答えうるようにさせたいのである。
13 For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God. Or if we are of sober mind, it is for you. 13 For whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be sober, it is for your cause. 5:13 もしわたしたちが、気が狂っているのなら、それは神のためであり、気が確かであるのなら、それはあなたがたのためである。
14 For the love of Christ constrains us; because we judge thus, that one died for all, therefore all died. 14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: 5:14 なぜなら、キリストの愛がわたしたちに強く迫っているからである。わたしたちはこう考えている。ひとりの人がすべての人のために死んだ以上、すべての人が死んだのである。
15 He died for all, that those who live should no longer live to themselves, but to him who for their sakes died and rose again. 15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. 5:15 そして、彼がすべての人のために死んだのは、生きている者がもはや自分のためにではなく、自分のために死んでよみがえったかたのために、生きるためである。
16 Therefore we know no one after the flesh from now on. Even though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now we know him so no more. 16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more. 5:16 それだから、わたしたちは今後、だれをも肉によって知ることはすまい。かつてはキリストを肉によって知っていたとしても、今はもうそのような知り方をすまい。
17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. 17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 5:17 だれでもキリストにあるならば、その人は新しく造られた者である。古いものは過ぎ去った、見よ、すべてが新しくなったのである。
18 But all things are of God, who reconciled us to himself through Jesus Christ, and gave to us the ministry of reconciliation; 18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 5:18 しかし、すべてこれらの事は、神から出ている。神はキリストによって、わたしたちをご自分に和解させ、かつ和解の務をわたしたちに授けて下さった。
19 namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not reckoning to them their trespasses, and having committed to us the word of reconciliation. 19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 5:19 すなわち、神はキリストにおいて世をご自分に和解させ、その罪過の責任をこれに負わせることをしないで、わたしたちに和解の福音をゆだねられたのである。
20 We are therefore ambassadors on behalf of Christ, as though God were entreating by us: we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. 5:20 神がわたしたちをとおして勧めをなさるのであるから、わたしたちはキリストの使者なのである。そこで、キリストに代って願う、神の和解を受けなさい。
21 For him who knew no sin he made to be sin on our behalf; so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 5:21 神はわたしたちの罪のために、罪を知らないかたを罪とされた。それは、わたしたちが、彼にあって神の義となるためなのである。

1 Working together, we entreat also that you not receive the grace of God in vain, 1 We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain. 6:1 わたしたちはまた、神と共に働く者として、あなたがたに勧める。神の恵みをいたずらに受けてはならない。
2 for he says, "At an acceptable time I listened to you, in a day of salvation I helped you." Behold, now is the acceptable time. 11 Our mouth is open to you, Corinthians. Our heart is enlarged. 11 O ye Corinthians, our mouth is open unto you, our heart is enlarged. 6:11 コリントの人々よ。あなたがたに向かってわたしたちの口は開かれており、わたしたちの心は広くなっている。
12 You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted by your own affections. 12 Ye are not straitened in us, but ye are straitened in your own bowels. 6:12 あなたがたは、わたしたちに心をせばめられていたのではなく、自分で心をせばめていたのだ。
13 Now in return, I speak as to my children, you also be open wide. 13 Now for a recompence in the same, (I speak as unto my children,) be ye also enlarged. 6:13 わたしは子供たちに対するように言うが、どうかあなたがたの方でも心を広くして、わたしに応じてほしい。
14 Don't be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? 14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 6:14 不信者と、つり合わないくびきを共にするな。義と不義となんの係わりがあるか。光とやみとなんの交わりがあるか。
15 What agreement has Christ with Belial? Or what portion has a believer with an unbeliever? 15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? 6:15 キリストとベリアルとなんの調和があるか。信仰と不信仰となんの関係があるか。
16 What agreement has a temple of God with idols? For you are a temple of the living God. Even as God said, "I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they will be my people." 16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 6:16 神の宮と偶像となんの一致があるか。わたしたちは、生ける神の宮である。神がこう仰せになっている、「わたしは彼らの間に住み、かつ出入りをするであろう。そして、わたしは彼らの神となり、彼らはわたしの民となるであろう」。
17 Therefore, "'Come out from among them, and be separate,' says the Lord. 'Touch no unclean thing. I will receive you. 17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. 6:17 だから、「彼らの間から出て行き、彼らと分離せよ、と主は言われる。そして、汚れたものに触れてはならない。触れなければ、わたしはあなたがたを受けいれよう。

1 Having therefore these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. 1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. 7:1 愛する者たちよ。わたしたちは、このような約束を与えられているのだから、肉と霊とのいっさいの汚れから自分をきよめ、神をおそれて全く清くなろうではないか。
2 Open your hearts to us. We wronged no one. We corrupted no one. We took advantage of no one. 2 Receive us; we have wronged no man, we have corrupted no man, we have defrauded no man. 7:2 どうか、わたしたちに心を開いてほしい。わたしたちは、だれにも不義をしたことがなく、だれをも破滅におとしいれたことがなく、だれからもだまし取ったことがない。
3 I say this not to condemn you, for I have said before, that you are in our hearts to die together and live together. 3 I speak not this to condemn you: for I have said before, that ye are in our hearts to die and live with you. 7:3 わたしは、責めるつもりでこう言うのではない。前にも言ったように、あなたがたはわたしの心のうちにいて、わたしたちと生死を共にしているのである。
4 Great is my boldness of speech toward you. Great is my boasting on your behalf. I am filled with comfort. 5 For even when we had come into Macedonia, our flesh had no relief, but we were afflicted on every side. Fightings were outside. 6 Nevertheless, he who comforts the lowly, God, comforted us by the coming of Titus; 6 Nevertheless God, that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus; 7:6 しかるに、うちしおれている者を慰める神は、テトスの到来によって、わたしたちを慰めて下さった。
7 and not by his coming only, but also by the comfort with which he was comforted in you, while he told us of your longing, your mourning, and your zeal for me; so that I rejoiced still more. 7 And not by his coming only, but by the consolation wherewith he was comforted in you, when he told us your earnest desire, your mourning, your fervent mind toward me; so that I rejoiced the more. 7:7 ただ彼の到来によるばかりではなく、彼があなたがたから受けたその慰めをもって、慰めて下さった。すなわち、あなたがたがわたしを慕っていること、嘆いていること、またわたしに対して熱心であることを知らせてくれたので、わたしの喜びはいよいよ増し加わったのである。
8 For though I made you sorry with my letter, I do not regret it, though I did regret it. For I see that my letter made you sorry, though just for a while. 8 For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though it were but for a season. 7:8 そこで、たとい、あの手紙であなたがたを悲しませたとしても、わたしはそれを悔いていない。あの手紙がしばらくの間ではあるが、あなたがたを悲しませたのを見て悔いたとしても、
9 I now rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that you were made sorry to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly way, that you might suffer loss by us in nothing. 9 Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing. 7:9 今は喜んでいる。それは、あなたがたが悲しんだからではなく、悲しんで悔い改めるに至ったからである。あなたがたがそのように悲しんだのは、神のみこころに添うたことであって、わたしたちからはなんの損害も受けなかったのである。
10 For godly sorrow works repentance to salvation, which brings no regret. But the sorrow of the world works death. 10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. 7:10 神のみこころに添うた悲しみは、悔いのない救を得させる悔改めに導き、この世の悲しみは死をきたらせる。
11 For behold, this same thing, that you were made sorry in a godly way, what earnest care it worked in you. Yes, what defense, indignation, fear, longing, zeal, and vengeance! In everything you demonstrated yourselves to be pure in the matter. 11 For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter. 7:11 見よ、神のみこころに添うたその悲しみが、どんなにか熱情をあなたがたに起させたことか。また、弁明、義憤、恐れ、愛慕、熱意、それから処罰に至らせたことか。あなたがたはあの問題については、すべての点において潔白であることを証明したのである。
12 So although I wrote to you, I wrote not for his cause that did the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered the wrong, but that your earnest care for us might be revealed in you in the sight of God. 12 Wherefore, though I wrote unto you, I did it not for his cause that had done the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear unto you. 7:12 だから、わたしがあなたがたに書きおくったのは、不義をした人のためでも、不義を受けた人のためでもなく、わたしたちに対するあなたがたの熱情が、神の前にあなたがたの間で明らかになるためである。
13 Therefore we have been comforted. In our comfort we rejoiced the more exceedingly for the joy of Titus, because his spirit has been refreshed by you all. 13 Therefore we were comforted in your comfort: yea, and exceedingly the more joyed we for the joy of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all. 7:13 こういうわけで、わたしたちは慰められたのである。これらの慰めの上にテトスの喜びが加わって、わたしたちはなおいっそう喜んだ。彼があなたがた一同によって安心させられたからである。
14 For if in anything I have boasted to him on your behalf, I was not disappointed. But as we spoke all things to you in truth, so our glorying also which I made before Titus was found to be truth. 14 For if I have boasted any thing to him of you, I am not ashamed; but as we spake all things to you in truth, even so our boasting, which I made before Titus, is found a truth. 7:14 そして、わたしは彼に対してあなたがたのことを少しく誇ったが、それはわたしの恥にならないですんだ。あなたがたにいっさいのことを真実に語ったように、テトスに対して誇ったことも真実となってきたのである。
15 His affection is more abundantly toward you, while he remembers all of your obedience, how with fear and trembling you received him. 15 And his inward affection is more abundant toward you, whilst he remembereth the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling ye received him. 7:15 また彼は、あなたがた一同が従順であって、おそれおののきつつ自分を迎えてくれたことを思い出して、ますます心をあなたがたの方に寄せている。

1 Moreover, brothers, we make known to you the grace of God which has been given in the assemblies of Macedonia; 1 Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia; 8:1 兄弟たちよ。わたしたちはここで、マケドニヤの諸教会に与えられた神の恵みを、あなたがたに知らせよう。
2 how that in much proof of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded to the riches of their liberality. 2 How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality. 8:2 すなわち、彼らは、患難のために激しい試錬をうけたが、その満ちあふれる喜びは、極度の貧しさにもかかわらず、あふれ出て惜しみなく施す富となったのである。
3 For according to their power, I testify, yes and beyond their power, they gave of their own accord, 3 For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves; 8:3 わたしはあかしするが、彼らは力に応じて、否、力以上に施しをした。すなわち、自ら進んで、
4 begging us with much entreaty to receive this grace and the fellowship in the service to the saints. 4 Praying us with much intreaty that we would receive the gift, and take upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints. 8:4 聖徒たちへの奉仕に加わる恵みにあずかりたいと、わたしたちに熱心に願い出て、
5 This was not as we had hoped, but first they gave their own selves to the Lord, and to us through the will of God. 5 And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God. 8:5 わたしたちの希望どおりにしたばかりか、自分自身をまず、神のみこころにしたがって、主にささげ、また、わたしたちにもささげたのである。
6 So we urged Titus, that as he made a beginning before, so he would also complete in you this grace. 6 Insomuch that we desired Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also finish in you the same grace also. 8:6 そこで、この募金をテトスがあなたがたの所で、すでに始めた以上、またそれを完成するようにと、わたしたちは彼に勧めたのである。
7 But as you abound in everything, in faith, utterance, knowledge, all earnestness, and in your love to us, see that you also abound in this grace. 7 Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also. 8:7 さて、あなたがたがあらゆる事がらについて富んでいるように、すなわち、信仰にも言葉にも知識にも、あらゆる熱情にも、また、あなたがたに対するわたしたちの愛にも富んでいるように、この恵みのわざにも富んでほしい。
8 I speak not by way of commandment, but as proving through the earnestness of others the sincerity also of your love. 8 I speak not by commandment, but by occasion of the forwardness of others, and to prove the sincerity of your love. 8:8 こう言っても、わたしは命令するのではない。ただ、他の人たちの熱情によって、あなたがたの愛の純真さをためそうとするのである。
9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that you through his poverty might become rich. 9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich. 8:9 あなたがたは、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの恵みを知っている。すなわち、主は富んでおられたのに、あなたがたのために貧しくなられた。それは、あなたがたが、彼の貧しさによって富む者になるためである。
10 I give a judgment in this: for this is expedient for you, who were the first to start a year ago, not only to do, but also to be willing. 10 And herein I give my advice: for this is expedient for you, who have begun before, not only to do, but also to be forward a year ago. 8:10 そこで、わたしは、この恵みのわざについて意見を述べよう。それがあなたがたの益になるからである。あなたがたはこの事を、昨年以来、他に先んじて実行したばかりではなく、それを願っていた。
11 But now complete the doing also, that as there was the readiness to be willing, so there may be the completion also out of your ability. 11 Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have. 8:11 だから今、それをやりとげなさい。あなたがたが心から願っているように、持っているところに応じて、それをやりとげなさい。
12 For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what you have, not according to what you don't have. 12 For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not. 8:12 もし心から願ってそうするなら、持たないところによらず、持っているところによって、神に受けいれられるのである。
13 For this is not that others may be eased and you distressed, 13 For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened: 8:13 それは、ほかの人々に楽をさせて、あなたがたに苦労をさせようとするのではなく、持ち物を等しくするためである。
14 but for equality. Your abundance at this present time supplies their lack, that their abundance also may become a supply for your lack; that there may be equality. 14 But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality: 8:14 すなわち、今の場合は、あなたがたの余裕があの人たちの欠乏を補い、後には、彼らの余裕があなたがたの欠乏を補い、こうして等しくなるようにするのである。
15 As it is written, "He who gathered much had nothing left over, and he who gathered little had no lack." 15 As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack. 8:15 それは「多く得た者も余ることがなく、少ししか得なかった者も足りないことはなかった」と書いてあるとおりである。
16 But thanks be to God, who puts the same earnest care for you into the heart of Titus. 16 But thanks be to God, which put the same earnest care into the heart of Titus for you. 8:16 わたしがあなたがたに対して持っている同じ熱情を、テトスの心にも与えて下さった神に感謝する。
17 For he indeed accepted our exhortation, but being himself very earnest, he went out to you of his own accord. 17 For indeed he accepted the exhortation; but being more forward, of his own accord he went unto you. 8:17 彼はわたしの勧めを受けいれ、そして更に熱心になって、自分から進んであなたがたのところに行った。
18 We have sent together with him the brother whose praise in the Good News is known through all the assemblies. 18 And we have sent with him the brother, whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches; 8:18 わたしたちはまた、テトスと一緒に、ひとりの兄弟を送る。この兄弟が福音宣伝の上で得たほまれは、すべての教会に聞えているが、
19 Not only so, but who was also appointed by the assemblies to travel with us in this grace, which is served by us to the glory of the Lord himself, and to show our readiness. 19 And not that only, but who was also chosen of the churches to travel with us with this grace, which is administered by us to the glory of the same Lord, and declaration of your ready mind: 8:19 そのうえ、彼は、主ご自身の栄光があらわれるため、また、わたしたちの好意を示すために、骨を折って贈り物を集めているわたしたちの同伴者として、諸教会から選ばれたのである。
20 We are avoiding this, that any man should blame us concerning this abundance which is administered by us. 20 Avoiding this, that no man should blame us in this abundance which is administered by us: 8:20 そうしたのは、わたしたちが集めているこの寄附金のことについて、人にかれこれ言われるのを避けるためである。
21 Having regard for honorable things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men. 21 Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men. 8:21 わたしたちは、主のみまえばかりではなく、人の前でも公正であるように、気を配っているのである。
22 We have sent with them our brother, whom we have many times proved earnest in many things, but now much more earnest, by reason of the great confidence which he has in you. 22 And we have sent with them our brother, whom we have oftentimes proved diligent in many things, but now much more diligent, upon the great confidence which I have in you. 8:22 また、もうひとりの兄弟を彼らと一緒に送る。わたしたちは、多くの事について彼が熱心であったことを、たびたび認めた。彼は今、あなたがたを非常に信頼して、ますます熱心になっている。
23 As for Titus, he is my partner and fellow worker for you. 1 It is indeed unnecessary for me to write to you concerning the service to the saints, 1 For as touching the ministering to the saints, it is superfluous for me to write to you: 9:1 聖徒たちに対する援助については、いまさら、あなたがたに書きおくる必要はない。
2 for I know your readiness, of which I boast on your behalf to them of Macedonia, that Achaia has been prepared for a year past. Your zeal has stirred up very many of them. 2 For I know the forwardness of your mind, for which I boast of you to them of Macedonia, that Achaia was ready a year ago; and your zeal hath provoked very many. 9:2 わたしは、あなたがたの好意を知っており、そのために、あなたがたのことをマケドニヤの人々に誇って、アカヤでは昨年以来、すでに準備をしているのだと言った。そして、あなたがたの熱心は、多くの人を奮起させたのである。
3 But I have sent the brothers that our boasting on your behalf may not be in vain in this respect, that, just as I said, you may be prepared, 3 Yet have I sent the brethren, lest our boasting of you should be in vain in this behalf; that, as I said, ye may be ready: 9:3 わたしが兄弟たちを送ることにしたのは、あなたがたについてわたしたちの誇ったことが、この場合むなしくならないで、わたしが言ったとおり準備していてもらいたいからである。
4 so that I won't by any means, if there come with me any of Macedonia and find you unprepared, we (to say nothing of you) should be disappointed in this confident boasting. 4 Lest haply if they of Macedonia come with me, and find you unprepared, we (that we say not, ye) should be ashamed in this same confident boasting. 9:4 そうでないと、万一マケドニヤ人がわたしと一緒に行って、準備ができていないのを見たら、あなたがたはもちろん、わたしたちも、かように信じきっていただけに、恥をかくことになろう。
5 I thought it necessary therefore to entreat the brothers that they would go before to you, and arrange ahead of time the generous gift that you promised before, that the same might be ready as a matter of generosity, and not of greediness. 5 Therefore I thought it necessary to exhort the brethren, that they would go before unto you, and make up beforehand your bounty, whereof ye had notice before, that the same might be ready, as a matter of bounty, and not as of covetousness. 9:5 だから、わたしは兄弟たちを促して、あなたがたの所へ先に行かせ、以前あなたがたが約束していた贈り物の準備をさせておくことが必要だと思った。それをしぶりながらではなく、心をこめて用意していてほしい。
6 Remember this: he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly. He who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. 9:6 わたしの考えはこうである。少ししかまかない者は、少ししか刈り取らず、豊かにまく者は、豊かに刈り取ることになる。
7 Let each man give according as he has determined in his heart; not grudgingly, or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver. 7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. 9:7 各自は惜しむ心からでなく、また、しいられてでもなく、自ら心で決めたとおりにすべきである。神は喜んで施す人を愛して下さるのである。
8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, that you, always having all sufficiency in everything, may abound to every good work. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: 9:8 神はあなたがたにあらゆる恵みを豊かに与え、あなたがたを常にすべてのことに満ち足らせ、すべての良いわざに富ませる力のあるかたなのである。
9 As it is written, "He has scattered abroad, he has given to the poor. His righteousness remains forever." 9 (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever. 9:9 「彼は貧しい人たちに散らして与えた。その義は永遠に続くであろう」と書いてあるとおりである。
10 Now may he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food, supply and multiply your seed for sowing, and increase the fruits of your righteousness; 10 Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;) 9:10 種まく人に種と食べるためのパンとを備えて下さるかたは、あなたがたにも種を備え、それをふやし、そしてあなたがたの義の実を増して下さるのである。
11 you being enriched in everything to all liberality, which works through us thanksgiving to God. 11 Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God. 9:11 こうして、あなたがたはすべてのことに豊かになって、惜しみなく施し、その施しはわたしたちの手によって行われ、神に感謝するに至るのである。
12 For this service of giving that you perform not only makes up for lack among the saints, but abounds also through many givings of thanks to God; 12 For the administration of this service not only supplieth the want of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God; 9:12 なぜなら、この援助の働きは、聖徒たちの欠乏を補うだけではなく、神に対する多くの感謝によってますます豊かになるからである。
13 seeing that through the proof given by this service, they glorify God for the obedience of your confession to the Good News of Christ, and for the liberality of your contribution to them and to all; 13 Whiles by the experiment of this ministration they glorify God for your professed subjection unto the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal distribution unto them, and unto all men; 9:13 すなわち、この援助を行った結果として、あなたがたがキリストの福音の告白に対して従順であることや、彼らにも、すべての人にも、惜しみなく施しをしていることがわかってきて、彼らは神に栄光を帰し、
14 while they themselves also, with supplication on your behalf, yearn for you by reason of the exceeding grace of God in you. 14 And by their prayer for you, which long after you for the exceeding grace of God in you. 9:14 そして、あなたがたに賜わったきわめて豊かな神の恵みのゆえに、あなたがたを慕い、あなたがたのために祈るのである。

1 Now I Paul, myself, entreat you by the humility and gentleness of Christ; I who in your presence am lowly among you, but being absent am of good courage toward you. 1 Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you: 10:1 さて、「あなたがたの間にいて面と向かってはおとなしいが、離れていると、気が強くなる」このパウロが、キリストの優しさ、寛大さをもって、あなたがたに勧める。
2 Yes, I beg you that I may not, when present, show courage with the confidence with which I intend to be bold against some, who consider us to be walking according to the flesh. 2 But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh. 10:2 わたしたちを肉に従って歩いているかのように思っている人々に対しては、わたしは勇敢に行動するつもりであるが、あなたがたの所では、どうか、そのような思いきったことをしないですむようでありたい。

4 for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds, 4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 10:4 わたしたちの戦いの武器は、肉のものではなく、神のためには要塞をも破壊するほどの力あるものである。わたしたちはさまざまな議論を破り、
5 throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ; 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 10:5 神の知恵に逆らって立てられたあらゆる障害物を打ちこわし、すべての思いをとりこにしてキリストに服従させ、
6 and being in readiness to avenge all disobedience, when your obedience will be made full. 6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled. 10:6 そして、あなたがたが完全に服従した時、すべて不従順な者を処罰しようと、用意しているのである。
7 Do you look at things only as they appear in front of your face? If anyone trusts in himself that he is Christ's, let him consider this again with himself, that, even as he is Christ's, so also we are Christ's. 7 Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? If any man trust to himself that he is Christ's, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ's, even so are we Christ's. 10:7 あなたがたは、うわべの事だけを見ている。もしある人が、キリストに属する者だと自任しているなら、その人はもう一度よく反省すべきである。その人がキリストに属する者であるように、わたしたちもそうである。
8 For though I should boast somewhat abundantly concerning our authority, (which the Lord gave for building you up, and not for casting you down) I will not be disappointed, 8 For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed: 10:8 たとい、あなたがたを倒すためではなく高めるために主からわたしたちに賜わった権威について、わたしがやや誇りすぎたとしても、恥にはなるまい。
9 that I may not seem as if I desire to terrify you by my letters. 9 That I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters. 10:9 ただ、わたしは、手紙であなたがたをおどしているのだと、思われたくはない。
10 For, "His letters," they say, "are weighty and strong, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech is despised." 10 For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible. 10:10 人は言う、「彼の手紙は重味があって力強いが、会って見ると外見は弱々しく、話はつまらない」。
11 Let such a person consider this, that what we are in word by letters when we are absent, such are we also in deed when we are present. 11 Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present. 10:11 そういう人は心得ているがよい。わたしたちは、離れていて書きおくる手紙の言葉どおりに、一緒にいる時でも同じようにふるまうのである。
12 For we are not bold to number or compare ourselves with some of those who commend themselves. But they themselves, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves with themselves, are without understanding. 12 For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise. 10:12 わたしたちは、自己推薦をするような人々と自分を同列においたり比較したりはしない。彼らは仲間同志で互にはかり合ったり、互に比べ合ったりしているが、知恵のないしわざである。
13 But we will not boast beyond proper limits, but within the boundaries with which God appointed to us, which reach even to you. 13 But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you. 10:13 しかし、わたしたちは限度をこえて誇るようなことはしない。むしろ、神が割り当てて下さった地域の限度内で誇るにすぎない。わたしはその限度にしたがって、あなたがたの所まで行ったのである。
14 For we don't stretch ourselves too much, as though we didn't reach to you. For we came even as far as to you with the Good News of Christ, 14 For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ: 10:14 わたしたちは、あなたがたの所まで行けない者であるかのように、むりに手を延ばしているのではない。事実、わたしたちが最初にキリストの福音を携えて、あなたがたの所までも行ったのである。
15 not boasting beyond proper limits in other men's labors, but having hope that as your faith grows, we will be abundantly enlarged by you in our sphere of influence, 15 Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men's labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly, 10:15 わたしたちは限度をこえて、他人の働きを誇るようなことはしない。ただ、あなたがたの信仰が成長するにつれて、わたしたちの働きの範囲があなたがたの中でますます大きくなることを望んでいる。
16 so as to preach the Good News even to the parts beyond you, not to boast in what someone else has already done. 16 To preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man's line of things made ready to our hand. 10:16 こうして、わたしたちはほかの人の地域ですでになされていることを誇ることはせずに、あなたがたを越えたさきざきにまで、福音を宣べ伝えたい。
17 But "he who boasts, let him boast in the Lord." 17 But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. 10:17 誇る者は主を誇るべきである。
18 For it isn't he who commends himself who is approved, but whom the Lord commends. 18 For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth. 10:18 自分で自分を推薦する人ではなく、主に推薦される人こそ、確かな人なのである。

1 I wish that you would bear with me in a little foolishness, but indeed you do bear with me. 1 Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me. 11:1 わたしが少しばかり愚かなことを言うのを、どうか、忍んでほしい。もちろん忍んでくれるのだ。
2 For I am jealous over you with a godly jealousy. For I married you to one husband, that I might present you as a pure virgin to Christ. 2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. 11:2 わたしは神の熱情をもって、あなたがたを熱愛している。あなたがたを、きよいおとめとして、ただひとりの男子キリストにささげるために、婚約させたのである。
3 But I am afraid that somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve in his craftiness, so your minds might be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. 3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. 11:3 ただ恐れるのは、エバがへびの悪巧みで誘惑されたように、あなたがたの思いが汚されて、キリストに対する純情と貞操とを失いはしないかということである。
4 For if he who comes preaches another Jesus, whom we did not preach, or if you receive a different spirit, which you did not receive, or a different "good news", which you did not accept, you put up with that well enough. 4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him. 11:4 というのは、もしある人がきて、わたしたちが宣べ伝えもしなかったような異なるイエスを宣べ伝え、あるいは、あなたがたが受けたことのない違った霊を受け、あるいは、受けいれたことのない違った福音を聞く場合に、あなたがたはよくもそれを忍んでいる。
5 For I reckon that I am not at all behind the very best apostles. 5 For I suppose I was not a whit behind the very chiefest apostles. 11:5 事実、わたしは、あの大使徒たちにいささかも劣ってはいないと思う。
6 But though I am unskilled in speech, yet I am not unskilled in knowledge. No, in every way we have been revealed to you in all things. 6 But though I be rude in speech, yet not in knowledge; but we have been throughly made manifest among you in all things. 11:6 たとい弁舌はつたなくても、知識はそうでない。わたしは、事ごとに、いろいろの場合に、あなたがたに対してそれを明らかにした。
7 Or did I commit a sin in humbling myself that you might be exalted, because I preached to you God's Good News free of charge? 7 Have I committed an offence in abasing myself that ye might be exalted, because I have preached to you the gospel of God freely? 11:7 それとも、あなたがたを高めるために自分を低くして、神の福音を価なしにあなたがたに宣べ伝えたことが、罪になるのだろうか。
8 I robbed other assemblies, taking wages from them that I might serve you. 8 I robbed other churches, taking wages of them, to do you service. 11:8 わたしは他の諸教会をかすめたと言われながら得た金で、あなたがたに奉仕し、
9 When I was present with you and was in need, I wasn't a burden on anyone, for the brothers, when they came from Macedonia, supplied the measure of my need. In everything I kept myself from being burdensome to you, and I will continue to do so. 9 And when I was present with you, and wanted, I was chargeable to no man: for that which was lacking to me the brethren which came from Macedonia supplied: and in all things I have kept myself from being burdensome unto you, and so will I keep myself. 11:9 あなたがたの所にいて貧乏をした時にも、だれにも負担をかけたことはなかった。わたしの欠乏は、マケドニヤからきた兄弟たちが、補ってくれた。こうして、わたしはすべての事につき、あなたがたに重荷を負わせまいと努めてきたし、今後も努めよう。

13 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as Christ's apostles. 13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 11:13 こういう人々はにせ使徒、人をだます働き人であって、キリストの使徒に擬装しているにすぎないからである。
14 And no wonder, for even Satan masquerades as an angel of light. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 11:14 しかし、驚くには及ばない。サタンも光の天使に擬装するのだから。
15 It is no great thing therefore if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. 11:15 だから、たといサタンの手下どもが、義の奉仕者のように擬装したとしても、不思議ではない。彼らの最期は、そのしわざに合ったものとなろう。
16 I say again, let no one think me foolish. But if so, yet receive me as foolish, that I also may boast a little. 16 I say again, Let no man think me a fool; if otherwise, yet as a fool receive me, that I may boast myself a little. 11:16 繰り返して言うが、だれも、わたしを愚か者と思わないでほしい。もしそう思うなら、愚か者あつかいにされてもよいから、わたしにも、少し誇らせてほしい。
17 That which I speak, I don't speak according to the Lord, but as in foolishness, in this confidence of boasting. 17 That which I speak, I speak it not after the Lord, but as it were foolishly, in this confidence of boasting. 11:17 いま言うことは、主によって言うのではなく、愚か者のように、自分の誇とするところを信じきって言うのである。
18 Seeing that many boast after the flesh, I will also boast. 18 Seeing that many glory after the flesh, I will glory also. 11:18 多くの人が肉によって誇っているから、わたしも誇ろう。
19 For you bear with the foolish gladly, being wise. 19 For ye suffer fools gladly, seeing ye yourselves are wise. 11:19 あなたがたは賢い人たちなのだから、喜んで愚か者を忍んでくれるだろう。

21 I speak by way of disparagement, as though we had been weak. Yet however any is bold (I speak in foolishness), I am bold also. 21 I speak as concerning reproach, as though we had been weak. Howbeit whereinsoever any is bold, (I speak foolishly,) I am bold also. 11:21 言うのも恥ずかしいことだが、わたしたちは弱すぎたのだ。もしある人があえて誇るなら、わたしは愚か者になって言うが、わたしもあえて誇ろう。

26 I have been in travels often, perils of rivers, perils of robbers, perils from my countrymen, perils from the Gentiles, perils in the city, perils in the wilderness, perils in the sea, perils among false brothers; 26 In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; 11:26 幾たびも旅をし、川の難、盗賊の難、同国民の難、異邦人の難、都会の難、荒野の難、海上の難、にせ兄弟の難に会い、
27 in labor and travail, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, and in cold and nakedness. 27 In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. 11:27 労し苦しみ、たびたび眠られぬ夜を過ごし、飢えかわき、しばしば食物がなく、寒さに凍え、裸でいたこともあった。
28 Besides those things that are outside, there is that which presses on me daily, anxiety for all the assemblies. 28 Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches. 11:28 なおいろいろの事があった外に、日々わたしに迫って来る諸教会の心配ごとがある。
29 Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is caused to stumble, and I don't burn with indignation? 29 Who is weak, and I am not weak? who is offended, and I burn not? 11:29 だれかが弱っているのに、わたしも弱らないでおれようか。だれかが罪を犯しているのに、わたしの心が燃えないでおれようか。
30 If I must boast, I will boast of the things that concern my weakness. 30 If I must needs glory, I will glory of the things which concern mine infirmities. 11:30 もし誇らねばならないのなら、わたしは自分の弱さを誇ろう。

1 It is doubtless not profitable for me to boast. For I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord. 1 It is not expedient for me doubtless to glory. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord. 12:1 わたしは誇らざるを得ないので、無益ではあろうが、主のまぼろしと啓示とについて語ろう。
2 I know a man in Christ, fourteen years ago (whether in the body, I don't know, or whether out of the body, I don't know; God knows), such a one caught up into the third heaven. 2 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven. 12:2 わたしはキリストにあるひとりの人を知っている。この人は十四年前に第三の天にまで引き上げられた―それが、からだのままであったか、わたしは知らない。からだを離れてであったか、それも知らない。神がご存じである。

6 For if I would desire to boast, I will not be foolish; for I will speak the truth. But I refrain, so that no man may think more of me than that which he sees in me, or hears from me. 6 For though I would desire to glory, I shall not be a fool; for I will say the truth: but now I forbear, lest any man should think of me above that which he seeth me to be, or that he heareth of me. 12:6 もっとも、わたしが誇ろうとすれば、ほんとうの事を言うのだから、愚か者にはならないだろう。しかし、それはさし控えよう。わたしがすぐれた啓示を受けているので、わたしについて見たり聞いたりしている以上に、人に買いかぶられるかも知れないから。
7 By reason of the exceeding greatness of the revelations, that I should not be exalted excessively, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me, that I should not be exalted excessively. 7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. 12:7 そこで、高慢にならないように、わたしの肉体に一つのとげが与えられた。それは、高慢にならないように、わたしを打つサタンの使なのである。
8 Concerning this thing, I begged the Lord three times that it might depart from me. 8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. 12:8 このことについて、わたしは彼を離れ去らせて下さるようにと、三度も主に祈った。
9 He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me. 9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 12:9 ところが、主が言われた、「わたしの恵みはあなたに対して十分である。わたしの力は弱いところに完全にあらわれる」。それだから、キリストの力がわたしに宿るように、むしろ、喜んで自分の弱さを誇ろう。
10 Therefore I take pleasure in weaknesses, in injuries, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then am I strong. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. 12:10 だから、わたしはキリストのためならば、弱さと、侮辱と、危機と、迫害と、行き詰まりとに甘んじよう。なぜなら、わたしが弱い時にこそ、わたしは強いからである。
11 I have become foolish in boasting. You compelled me, for I ought to have been commended by you, for in nothing was I inferior to the very best apostles, though I am nothing. 11 I am become a fool in glorying; ye have compelled me: for I ought to have been commended of you: for in nothing am I behind the very chiefest apostles, though I be nothing. 12:11 わたしは愚か者となった。あなたがたが、むりにわたしをそうしてしまったのだ。実際は、あなたがたから推薦されるべきであった。というのは、たといわたしは取るに足りない者だとしても、あの大使徒たちにはなんら劣るところがないからである。
12 Truly the signs of an apostle were worked among you in all patience, in signs and wonders and mighty works. 12 Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds. 12:12 わたしは、使徒たるの実を、しるしと奇跡と力あるわざとにより、忍耐をつくして、あなたがたの間であらわしてきた。
13 For what is there in which you were made inferior to the rest of the assemblies, unless it is that I myself was not a burden to you? Forgive me this wrong. 13 For what is it wherein ye were inferior to other churches, except it be that I myself was not burdensome to you? forgive me this wrong. 12:13 いったい、あなたがたが他の教会よりも劣っている点は何か。ただ、このわたしがあなたがたに負担をかけなかったことだけではないか。この不義は、どうか、ゆるしてもらいたい。
14 Behold, this is the third time I am ready to come to you, and I will not be a burden to you; for I seek not your possessions, but you. For the children ought not to save up for the parents, but the parents for the children. 14 Behold, the third time I am ready to come to you; and I will not be burdensome to you: for I seek not your's but you: for the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children. 12:14 さて、わたしは今、三度目にあなたがたの所に行く用意をしている。しかし、負担はかけないつもりである。わたしの求めているのは、あなたがたの持ち物ではなく、あなたがた自身なのだから。いったい、子供は親のために財をたくわえて置く必要はなく、親が子供のためにたくわえて置くべきである。
15 I will most gladly spend and be spent for your souls. If I love you more abundantly, am I loved the less? 15 And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved. 12:15 そこでわたしは、あなたがたの魂のためには、大いに喜んで費用を使い、また、わたし自身をも使いつくそう。わたしがあなたがたを愛すれば愛するほど、あなたがたからますます愛されなくなるのであろうか。
16 But be it so, I did not myself burden you. But, being crafty, I caught you with deception. 16 But be it so, I did not burden you: nevertheless, being crafty, I caught you with guile. 12:16 わたしは、あなたがたに重荷を負わせなかったとしても、悪がしこくて、あなたがたからだまし取ったのだと、人は言う。
17 Did I take advantage of you by anyone of them whom I have sent to you? 17 Did I make a gain of you by any of them whom I sent unto you? 12:17 わたしは、あなたがたにつかわした人たちのうちのだれかをとおして、あなたがたからむさぼり取っただろうか。
18 I exhorted Titus, and I sent the brother with him. Did Titus take any advantage of you? Didn't we walk in the same spirit? Didn't we walk in the same steps? 18 I desired Titus, and with him I sent a brother. Did Titus make a gain of you? walked we not in the same spirit? walked we not in the same steps? 12:18 わたしは、テトスに勧めてそちらに行かせ、また、かの兄弟を同行させた。テトスは、あなたがたからむさぼり取ったことがあろうか。わたしたちは、みな同じ心で歩いたではないか。同じ足並みで歩いたではないか。
19 Again, do you think that we are excusing ourselves to you? In the sight of God we speak in Christ. But all things, beloved, are for your edifying. 19 Again, think ye that we excuse ourselves unto you? we speak before God in Christ: but we do all things, dearly beloved, for your edifying. 12:19 あなたがたは、わたしたちがあなたがたに対して弁明をしているのだと、今までずっと思ってきたであろう。しかし、わたしたちは、神のみまえでキリストにあって語っているのである。愛する者たちよ。これらすべてのことは、あなたがたの徳を高めるためなのである。
20 For I am afraid that by any means, when I come, I might find you not the way I want to, and that I might be found by you as you don't desire; that by any means there would be strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, factions, slander, whisperings, proud thoughts, riots; 20 For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults: 12:20 わたしは、こんな心配をしている。わたしが行ってみると、もしかしたら、あなたがたがわたしの願っているような者ではなく、わたしも、あなたがたの願っているような者でないことになりはすまいか。もしかしたら、争い、ねたみ、怒り、党派心、そしり、ざんげん、高慢、騒乱などがありはすまいか。
21 that again when I come my God would humble me before you, and I would mourn for many of those who have sinned before now, and not repented of the uncleanness and sexual immorality and lustfulness which they committed. 21 And lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and that I shall bewail many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed. 12:21 わたしが再びそちらに行った場合、わたしの神が、あなたがたの前でわたしに恥をかかせ、その上、多くの人が前に罪を犯していながら、その汚れと不品行と好色とを悔い改めていないので、わたしを悲しませることになりはすまいか。

1 This is the third time I am coming to you. "At the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established." 1 This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established. 13:1 わたしは今、三度目にあなたがたの所に行こうとしている。すべての事がらは、ふたりか三人の証人の証言によって確定する。
2 I have said beforehand, and I do say beforehand, as when I was present the second time, so now, being absent, I write to those who have sinned before now, and to all the rest, that, if I come again, I will not spare; 2 I told you before, and foretell you, as if I were present, the second time; and being absent now I write to them which heretofore have sinned, and to all other, that, if I come again, I will not spare: 13:2 わたしは、前に罪を犯した者たちやその他のすべての人々に、二度目に滞在していたとき警告しておいたが、離れている今またあらかじめ言っておく。今度行った時には、決して容赦はしない。
3 seeing that you seek a proof of Christ who speaks in me; who toward you is not weak, but is powerful in you. 3 Since ye seek a proof of Christ speaking in me, which to you-ward is not weak, but is mighty in you. 13:3 なぜなら、あなたがたが、キリストのわたしにあって語っておられるという証拠を求めているからである。キリストは、あなたがたに対して弱くはなく、あなたがたのうちにあって強い。
4 For he was crucified through weakness, yet he lives through the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we will live with him through the power of God toward you. 4 For though he was crucified through weakness, yet he liveth by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we shall live with him by the power of God toward you. 13:4 すなわち、キリストは弱さのゆえに十字架につけられたが、神の力によって生きておられるのである。このように、わたしたちもキリストにあって弱い者であるが、あなたがたに対しては、神の力によって、キリストと共に生きるのである。
5 Test your own selves, whether you are in the faith. Test your own selves. Or don't you know as to your own selves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified. 5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? 13:5 あなたがたは、はたして信仰があるかどうか、自分を反省し、自分を吟味するがよい。それとも、イエス・キリストがあなたがたのうちにおられることを、悟らないのか。もし悟らなければ、あなたがたは、にせものとして見捨てられる。
6 But I hope that you will know that we aren't disqualified. 6 But I trust that ye shall know that we are not reprobates. 13:6 しかしわたしは、自分たちが見捨てられた者ではないことを、知っていてもらいたい。
7 Now I pray to God that you do no evil; not that we may appear approved, but that you may do that which is honorable, though we are as reprobate. 7 Now I pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but that ye should do that which is honest, though we be as reprobates. 13:7 わたしたちは、あなたがたがどんな悪をも行わないようにと、神に祈る。それは、自分たちがほんとうの者であることを見せるためではなく、たといわたしたちが見捨てられた者のようになっても、あなたがたに良い行いをしてもらいたいためである。
8 For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth. 8 For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth. 13:8 わたしたちは、真理に逆らっては何をする力もなく、真理にしたがえば力がある。
9 For we rejoice when we are weak and you are strong. And this we also pray for, even your perfecting. 9 For we are glad, when we are weak, and ye are strong: and this also we wish, even your perfection. 13:9 わたしたちは、自分は弱くても、あなたがたが強ければ、それを喜ぶ。わたしたちが特に祈るのは、あなたがたが完全に良くなってくれることである。
10 For this cause I write these things while absent, that I may not deal sharply when present, according to the authority which the Lord gave me for building up, and not for tearing down. 10 Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should use sharpness, according to the power which the Lord hath given me to edification, and not to destruction. 13:10 こういうわけで、離れていて以上のようなことを書いたのは、わたしがあなたがたの所に行ったとき、倒すためではなく高めるために主が授けて下さった権威を用いて、きびしい処置をする必要がないようにしたいためである。
11 Finally, brothers, rejoice. Be perfected, be comforted, be of the same mind, live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you. 11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you. 13:11 最後に、兄弟たちよ。いつも喜びなさい。全き者となりなさい。互に励まし合いなさい。思いを一つにしなさい。平和に過ごしなさい。そうすれば、愛と平和の神があなたがたと共にいて下さるであろう。
