| 1 La parole de Yahweh qui fut adressée à Sophonie, fils de Chusi, fils de Godolias, fils d’Amarias, fils d’Ezéchias, dans les jours de Josias, fils d’Amon, roi de Juda. | 1 The word of Yahweh which came to Zephaniah, the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hezekiah, in the days of Josiah, the son of Amon, king of Judah. | 1 Dies ist das Wort des Herrn, welches geschah zu Zephanja, dem Sohn Chusis, des Sohnes Gedaljas, des Sohnes Amarjas, des Sohnes Hiskias, zur Zeit Josias, des Sohnes Amons, des Königs in Juda. |
| 2 J’enlèverai tout de dessus la face de la terre, – oracle de Yahweh ; | 2 I will utterly sweep away everything off of the surface of the earth, says Yahweh. | 2 Ich will alles aus dem Lande wegnehmen, spricht der Herr . |
| 3 j’enlèverai les hommes et les bêtes, j’enlèverai les oiseaux du ciel et les poissons de la mer, et les scandales avec les impies, et j’exterminerai l’homme de dessus la face de la terre, – oracle de Yahweh. | 3 I will sweep away man and animal. I will sweep away the birds of the sky, the fish of the sea, and the heaps of rubble with the wicked. I will cut off man from the surface of the earth, says Yahweh. | 3 Ich will Menschen und Vieh, Vögel des Himmels und Fische im Meer wegnehmen samt den Ärgernissen und den Gottlosen ; ja, ich will die Menschen ausreuten aus dem Lande, spricht der Herr . |
| 4 Et j’étendrai ma main sur Juda, et sur tous les habitants de Jérusalem, et j’exterminerai de ce lieu le reste de Baal, le nom de ses ministres en même temps que les prêtres ; | 4 I will stretch out my hand against Judah, and against all the inhabitants of Jerusalem. I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place: the name of the idolatrous and pagan priests, | 4 Ich will meine Hand ausstrecken über Juda und über alle, die zu Jerusalem wohnen ; also will ich das übrige von Baal ausreuten, dazu den Namen der Götzenpfaffen und Priester aus diesem Ort ; |
| 5 et ceux qui se prosternent sur les toits, devant l’armée des cieux ; et ceux qui se prosternent en faisant serment à Yahweh, tout en jurant par leur roi ; | 5 those who worship the army of the sky on the housetops, those who worship and swear by Yahweh and also swear by Malcam, | 5 und die, so auf den Dächern des Himmels Heer anbeten ; die es anbeten und schwören doch bei dem Herrn und zugleich bei Milkom ; |
| 6 et ceux qui se détournent de Yahweh, qui ne cherchent pas Yahweh, et ne se soucient pas de lui. | 6 those who have turned back from following Yahweh, and those who haven’t sought Yahweh nor inquired after him. | 6 und die vom Herrn abfallen, und die nach dem Herrn nichts fragen und ihn nicht achten. |
| 7 Silence devant le Seigneur Yahweh ! Car le jour de Yahweh est proche ; car Yahweh a préparé un sacrifice, il a consacré ses invités. | 7 Be silent at the presence of the Lord Yahweh, for the day of Yahweh is at hand. For Yahweh has prepared a sacrifice. He has consecrated his guests. | 7 Seid still vor dem Herrn Herrn, denn des Herrn Tag ist nahe ; denn der Herr hat ein Schlachtopfer zubereitet und seine Gäste dazu geladen. |
| 8 Et il arrivera : Au jour du sacrifice de Yahweh, je châtierai les princes, et les fils de roi, et tous ceux qui revêtent des vêtements étrangers. | 8 It will happen in the day of Yahweh’s sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, the king’s sons, and all those who are clothed with foreign clothing. | 8 Und am Tage des Schlachtopfers des Herrn will ich heimsuchen die Fürsten und des Königs Kinder und alle, die ein fremdes Kleid tragen. |
| 9 Et je châtierai en ce jour-là tous ceux qui sautent par-dessus le seuil, qui remplissent de violence et de fraude la maison de leur maître. | 9 In that day, I will punish all those who leap over the threshold, who fill their master’s house with violence and deceit. | 9 Auch will ich zur selben Zeit die heimsuchen, so über die Schwelle springen, die ihres Herrn Haus füllen mit Rauben und Trügen. |
| 10 Et il arrivera en ce jour-là, – oracle de Yahweh : De la porte des poissons retentiront des cris, de la seconde ville des gémissements, et des collines un grand fracas. | 10 In that day, says Yahweh, there will be the noise of a cry from the fish gate, a wailing from the second quarter, and a great crashing from the hills. | 10 Zur selben Zeit, spricht der Herr, wird sich ein lautes Geschrei erheben von dem Fischtor her und ein Geheul von dem andern Teil der Stadt und ein großer Jammer von den Hügeln. |
| 11 Gémissez, habitants du Mortier, car tout le peuple chananéen est anéanti, tous ceux qui sont chargés d’argent sont exterminés. | 11 Wail, you inhabitants of Maktesh, for all the people of Canaan are undone! All those who were loaded with silver are cut off. | 11 Heulet, die ihr in der Mühle wohnt ; denn das ganze Krämervolk ist dahin, und alle, die Geld sammeln, sind ausgerottet. |
| 12 Et il arrivera en ce temps-là : Je fouillerai Jérusalem avec des lanternes, et je châtierai les hommes figés sur leur lie, qui disent en leur cœur : " Yahweh ne fait ni bien ni mal ! " | 12 It will happen at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and I will punish the men who are settled on their dregs, who say in their heart, “Yahweh will not do good, neither will he do evil.” | 12 Zur selben Zeit will ich Jerusalem mit Leuchten durchsuchen und will heimsuchen die Leute, die auf ihren Hefen liegen und sprechen in ihrem Herzen : Der Herr wird weder Gutes noch Böses tun. |
| 13 Leurs biens seront livrés au pillage, et leurs maisons à la dévastation ; ils bâtiront des maisons, et ils n’y habiteront point ; ils planteront des vignes, et ils n’en boiront pas le vin. | 13 Their wealth will become a spoil, and their houses a desolation. Yes, they will build houses, but won’t inhabit them. They will plant vineyards, but won’t drink their wine. | 13 Und ihre Güter sollen zum Raub werden und ihre Häuser zur Wüste. Sie werden Häuser bauen, und nicht darin wohnen ; sie werden Weinberge pflanzen, und keinen Wein davon trinken. |
| 14 Il est proche le grand jour de Yahweh, il est proche, il vient en toute hâte ! On l’entend venir, le jour de Yahweh ! L’homme brave y poussera des cris amers. | 14 The great day of Yahweh is near. It is near, and hurries greatly, the voice of the day of Yahweh. The mighty man cries there bitterly. | 14 Des Herrn großer Tag ist nahe ; er ist nahe und eilt sehr. Wenn das Geschrei vom Tage des Herrn kommen wird, so werden die Starken alsdann bitterlich schreien. |
| 15 C’est un jour de fureur que ce jour-là, un jour d’angoisse et d’affliction, un jour de désolation et de ruine, un jour de ténèbres et d’obscurité, un jour de nuages et d’épais brouillards, | 15 That day is a day of wrath, a day of distress and anguish, a day of trouble and ruin, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness, | 15 Denn dieser Tag ist ein Tag des Grimmes, ein Tag der Trübsal und Angst, ein Tag des Wetters und Ungestüms, ein Tag der Finsternis und Dunkels, ein Tag der Wolken und Nebel, |
| 16 un jour de trompette et d’alarme, sur les villes fortes et les créneaux élevés. | 16 a day of the trumpet and alarm, against the fortified cities, and against the high battlements. | 16 ein Tag der Posaune und Drommete wider die festen Städte und hohen Schlösser. |
| 17 Je mettrai les hommes dans la détresse, et ils marcheront comme des aveugles, parce qu’ils ont péché contre Yahweh ; leur sang sera répandu comme la poussière ; et leur chair comme du fumier. | 17 I will bring distress on men, that they will walk like blind men, because they have sinned against Yahweh, and their blood will be poured out like dust, and their flesh like dung. | 17 Ich will den Leuten bange machen, daß sie umhergehen sollen wie die Blinden, darum daß sie wider den Herrn gesündigt haben. Ihr Blut soll ausgeschüttet werden, als wäre es Staub, und ihr Leib als wäre es Kot. |
| 18 Ni leur argent, ni leur or ne pourront les délivrer ; au jour de la fureur de Yahweh ; par le feu de sa jalousie, toute la terre sera dévorée ; car il fera une destruction totale, une ruine soudaine, de tous les habitants de la terre. | 18 Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to deliver them in the day of Yahweh’s wrath, but the whole land will be devoured by the fire of his jealousy; for he will make an end, yes, a terrible end, of all those who dwell in the land. | 18 Es wird sie ihr Silber und Gold nicht erretten können am Tage des Zorns des Herrn, sondern das ganze Land soll durch das Feuer seines Eifers verzehrt werden ; denn er wird plötzlich ein Ende machen mit allen, die im Lande wohnen. |

| 1 Recueillez-vous, rentrez en vous-mêmes, race sans pudeur, | 1 Gather yourselves together, yes, gather together, you nation that has no shame, | 1 Sammelt euch und kommt her, ihr feindseliges Volk, |
| 2 avant que le décret ait enfanté, que le jour ait passé comme la paille ; avant que vienne sur vous l’ardeur de la colère de Yahweh, avant que vienne sur vous le jour de la colère de Yahweh. | 2 before the appointed time when the day passes as the chaff, before the fierce anger of Yahweh comes on you, before the day of Yahweh’s anger comes on you. | 2 ehe denn das Urteil ausgehe, daß ihr wie die Spreu bei Tage dahin fahrt ; ehe denn des Herrn grimmiger Zorn über euch komme ; ehe der Tag des Zornes des Herrn über euch komme. |
| 3 Cherchez Yahweh, vous tous humbles du pays, qui avez pratiqué sa loi ; recherchez la justice, recherchez l’humilité. Peut-être serez-vous à l’abri au jour de la colère de Yahweh !… | 3 Seek Yahweh, all you humble of the land, who have kept his ordinances. Seek righteousness. Seek humility. It may be that you will be hidden in the day of Yahweh’s anger. | 3 Suchet den Herr, alle ihr Elenden im Lande, die ihr seine Rechte haltet ; suchet Gerechtigkeit, suchet Demut, auf daß ihr am Tage des Zornes des Herrn möget verborgen werden. |
| 4 Car Gaza sera abandonnée, et Ascalon réduite en désert ; on chassera Azot en plein midi, et Accaron sera déracinée. | 4 For Gaza will be forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolation. They will drive out Ashdod at noonday, and Ekron will be rooted up. | 4 Denn Gaza muß verlassen und Askalon wüst werden ; Asdod soll am Mittag vertrieben und Ekron ausgewurzelt werden. |
| 5 Malheur aux habitants de la région de la mer, à la nation des Crétois ! La parole de Yahweh est prononcée contre vous, Chanaan, terre des Philistins : " Et je te détruirai en sorte qu’il ne te reste plus d’habitants. " | 5 Woe to the inhabitants of the sea coast, the nation of the Cherethites! The word of Yahweh is against you, Canaan, the land of the Philistines. I will destroy you, that there will be no inhabitant. | 5 Weh denen, so am Meer hinab wohnen, dem Volk der Krether ! Des Herrn Wort wird über euch kommen, du Kanaan, der Philister Land ; ich will dich umbringen, daß niemand mehr da wohnen soll. |
| 6 La région de la mer deviendra des pâturages, des grottes de bergers et des parcs de moutons. | 6 The sea coast will be pastures, with cottages for shepherds and folds for flocks. | 6 Es sollen am Meer hinab eitel Hirtenhäuser und Schafhürden sein. |
| 7 Ce sera un territoire pour le reste de la maison de Juda, ils y paîtront leurs troupeaux ; le soir, ils prendront leur gîte dans les maisons d’Ascalon, car Yahweh, leur Dieu, les visitera et les rétablira. | 7 The coast will be for the remnant of the house of Judah. They will find pasture. In the houses of Ashkelon, they will lie down in the evening, for Yahweh, their God, will visit them, and restore them. | 7 Und dasselbe soll den übrigen vom Hause Juda zuteil werden, daß sie darauf weiden sollen. Des Abends sollen sie sich in den Häusern Askalons lagern, wenn sie nun der Herr, ihr Gott, wiederum heimgesucht und ihr Gefängnis gewendet hat. |
| 8 J’ai entendu les insultes de Moab, et les outrages des fils d’Ammon, qui insultaient mon peuple, et s’agrandissaient aux dépens de ses frontières. | 8 I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the insults of the children of Ammon, with which they have reproached my people, and magnified themselves against their border. | 8 Ich habe das Schmähen Moabs und das Lästern der Kinder Ammon gehört, womit sie mein Volk geschmäht und auf seinen Grenzen sich gerühmt haben. |
| 9 C’est pourquoi, je suis vivant, – oracle de Yahweh des armées, le Dieu d’Israël : Moab sera comme Sodome, et les fils d’Ammon comme Gomorrhe : un lieu livré aux orties, une carrière de sel, un désert à jamais. Le reste de mon peuple le pillera, et ce qui demeurera de ma nation, les aura en héritage. | 9 Therefore as I live, says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, surely Moab will be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, a possession of nettles, and salt pits, and a perpetual desolation. The remnant of my people will plunder them, and the survivors of my nation will inherit them. | 9 Wohlan, so wahr ich lebe ! spricht der Herr Zebaoth, der Gott Israels, Moab soll wie Sodom und die Kinder Ammon wie Gomorra werden, ja wie ein Nesselstrauch und eine Salzgrube und eine ewige Wüste. Die übrigen meines Volkes sollen sie berauben, und die Übriggebliebenen meines Volkes sollen sie erben. |
| 10 Cela leur arrivera pour leur orgueil, parce qu’ils ont été méprisants et insolents, contre le peuple de Yahweh des armées. | 10 This they will have for their pride, because they have reproached and magnified themselves against the people of Yahweh of Armies. | 10 Das soll ihnen aber begegnen für ihre Hoffart, daß sie des Herrn Zebaoth Volk geschmäht und sich gerühmt haben. |
| 11 Yahweh sera un objet de terreur pour eux, car il anéantira tous les dieux de la terre ; et devant lui se prosterneront, chacun de son lieu, les habitants de toutes les îles des nations. | 11 Yahweh will be awesome to them, for he will famish all the gods of the land. Men will worship him, everyone from his place, even all the shores of the nations. | 11 Schrecklich wird der Herr über sie sein, denn er wird alle Götter auf Erden vertilgen ; und sollen ihn anbeten alle Inseln der Heiden, ein jeglicher an seinem Ort. |
| 12 Vous aussi, Éthiopiens !… Ils seront transpercés par mon épée. | 12 You Cushites also, you will be killed by my sword. | 12 Auch sollt ihr Mohren durch mein Schwert erschlagen werden. |
| 13 Il étendra aussi sa main contre le nord, il détruira Assur, et il fera de Ninive une solitude, aride comme le désert. | 13 He will stretch out his hand against the north, destroy Assyria, and will make Nineveh a desolation, as dry as the wilderness. | 13 Und er wird seine Hand strecken gen Mitternacht und Assur umbringen. Ninive wird er öde machen, dürr wie eine Wüste, |
| 14 Au milieu d’elle prendront leur gîte des troupeaux, des animaux de toute espèce ; même le pélican, même le hérisson se logeront sur ses chapiteaux ; on entendra des chants dans les fenêtres, la désolation sera sur le seuil, car on a mis à nu les boiseries de cèdres. | 14 Herds will lie down in the midst of her, all the animals of the nations. Both the pelican and the porcupine will lodge in its capitals. Their calls will echo through the windows. Desolation will be in the thresholds, for he has laid bare the cedar beams. | 14 daß darin sich lagern werden allerlei Tiere bei Haufen ; auch Rohrdommeln und Igel werden wohnen in ihren Säulenknäufen, und Vögel werden in den Fenstern singen, und auf der Schwelle wird Verwüstung sein ; denn die Zedernbretter sollen abgerissen werden. |
| 15 C’est là la ville joyeuse, assise avec assurance, qui disait en son cœur : " Moi, et rien que moi ! " Comment est-elle devenue un désert, une demeure pour les bêtes ? Quiconque passera sur elle sifflera et agitera la main. | 15 This is the joyous city that lived carelessly, that said in her heart, “I am, and there is none besides me.” How she has become a desolation, a place for animals to lie down in! Everyone who passes by her will hiss, and shake their fists. | 15 Das ist die fröhliche Stadt, die so sicher wohnte und sprach in ihrem Herzen : Ich bin’s, und keine mehr. Wie ist sie so wüst geworden, daß die Tiere darin wohnen ! Und wer vorübergeht, pfeift sie an und klatscht mit der Hand über sie. |

| 1 Malheur à la rebelle et à la souillée, à la ville d’oppression ! | 1 Woe to her who is rebellious and polluted, the oppressing city! | 1 Weh der greulichen, unflätigen, tyrannischen Stadt ! |
| 2 Elle n’a écouté aucune voix, elle n’a point accepté d’avertissement ; elle ne s’est pas confiée en Yahweh, elle ne s’est point approchée de son Dieu. | 2 She didn’t obey the voice. She didn’t receive correction. She didn’t trust in Yahweh. She didn’t draw near to her God. | 2 Sie will nicht gehorchen noch sich züchtigen lassen ; sie will auf den Herrn nicht trauen noch sich zu ihrem Gott halten. |
| 3 Ses princes au milieu d’elle sont des lions rugissants, ses juges des loups du soir, qui ne gardent rien pour le matin. | 3 Her princes in the midst of her are roaring lions. Her judges are evening wolves. They leave nothing until the next day. | 3 Ihre Fürsten sind unter ihnen brüllende Löwen und ihre Richter Wölfe am Abend, die nichts bis auf den Morgen übriglassen. |
| 4 Ses prophètes sont des fanfarons, des hommes perfides ; ses prêtres profanent les choses saintes, ils violent la loi. | 4 Her prophets are arrogant and treacherous people. Her priests have profaned the sanctuary. They have done violence to the law. | 4 Ihre Propheten sind leichtfertig und Verächter ; ihre Priester entweihen das Heiligtum und deuten das Gesetz freventlich. |
| 5 Yahweh est juste au milieu d’elle, il ne fait rien d’inique ; chaque matin il produit son jugement, pour donner la lumière, sans jamais y manquer ; mais l’impie ne connaît point de honte ! | 5 Yahweh, in the midst of her, is righteous. He will do no wrong. Every morning he brings his justice to light. He doesn’t fail, but the unjust know no shame. | 5 Der Herr, der unter ihnen ist, ist gerecht und tut kein Arges. Er läßt alle Morgen seine Rechte öffentlich lehren und läßt nicht ab ; aber die bösen Leute wollen sich nicht schämen lernen. |
| 6 J’ai exterminé des nations ; leurs tours ont été détruites ; j’ai désolé leurs rues, si bien qu’on n’y passe plus ; leurs villes ont été dévastées, si bien qu’il n’y reste personne, aucun habitant. | 6 I have cut off nations. Their battlements are desolate. I have made their streets waste, so that no one passes by. Their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man, so that there is no inhabitant. | 6 Ich habe Völker ausgerottet, ihre Schlösser verwüstet und ihre Gassen so leer gemacht, daß niemand darauf geht ; ihre Städte sind zerstört, daß niemand mehr da wohnt. |
| 7 Je disais : " Au moins tu me craindras, tu accepteras l’avertissement ; et sa demeure ne sera pas détruite, selon tout ce que j’ai décidé à son égard. " Mais ils n’ont été que plus empressés à pervertir toutes leurs actions. | 7 I said, “Just fear me. Receive correction, so that her dwelling won’t be cut off, according to all that I have appointed concerning her.” But they rose early and corrupted all their doings. | 7 Ich ließ dir sagen : Mich sollst du fürchten und dich lassen züchtigen ! so würde ihre Wohnung nicht ausgerottet und der keines kommen, womit ich sie heimsuchen werde. Aber sie sind fleißig, allerlei Bosheit zu üben. |
| 8 C’est pourquoi attendez-moi, – oracle de Yahweh, pour le jour où je me lèverai pour le butin ! Car mon arrêt est que j’assemble les nations, que je rassemble les royaumes, pour verser sur eux ma fureur, toute l’ardeur de ma colère. Car par le feu de ma jalousie, toute la terre sera dévorée. | 8 “Therefore wait for me,” says Yahweh, “until the day that I rise up to the prey, for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour on them my indignation, even all my fierce anger, for all the earth will be devoured with the fire of my jealousy. | 8 Darum, spricht der Herr, müsset ihr mein auch harren, bis ich mich aufmache zu seiner Zeit, da ich auch rechten werde und die Heiden versammeln und die Königreiche zuhauf bringen, meinen Zorn über sie zu schütten, ja, allen Zorn meines Grimmes ; denn alle Welt soll durch meines Eifers Feuer verzehrt werden. |
| 9 Car alors je donnerai aux peuples des lèvres pures, afin qu’ils invoquent tous le nom de Yahweh, et le servent d’un commun accord. | 9 For then I will purify the lips of the peoples, that they may all call on the name of Yahweh, to serve him shoulder to shoulder. | 9 Alsdann will ich den Völkern reine Lippen geben, daß sie alle sollen des Herrn Namen anrufen und ihm einträchtig dienen. |
| 10 D’au delà des fleuves de l’Éthiopie, mes adorateurs, mes dispersés, apporteront mon offrande. | 10 From beyond the rivers of Cush, my worshipers, even the daughter of my dispersed people, will bring my offering. | 10 Man wird mir meine Anbeter, mein zerstreutes Volk, von jenseit des Wassers im Mohrenlande herbeibringen zum Geschenk. |
| 11 En ce jour-là, tu n’auras plus à rougir de toutes tes actions par lesquelles tu as péché contre moi ; car alors j’ôterai du milieu de toi ceux qui se réjouissaient avec arrogance ; et tu ne t’enorgueilliras plus désormais, sur ma montagne sainte. | 11 In that day you will not be disappointed for all your doings, in which you have transgressed against me; for then I will take away out of the midst of you your proudly exulting ones, and you will no more be haughty in my holy mountain. | 11 Zur selben Zeit wirst du dich nicht mehr schämen alles deines Tuns, womit du wider mich übertreten hast ; denn ich will die stolzen Heiligen von dir tun, daß du nicht mehr sollst dich überheben auf meinem heiligen Berge. |
| 12 je laisserai au milieu de toi un peuple humble et petit, qui se confiera au nom de Yahweh. | 12 But I will leave in the midst of you an afflicted and poor people, and they will take refuge in the name of Yahweh. | 12 Ich will in dir lassen übrigbleiben ein armes, geringes Volk ; die werden auf des Herrn Namen trauen. |
| 13 Le reste d’Israël ne commettra pas l’iniquité, il ne dira pas de mensonge, et il ne se trouvera plus dans leur bouche de langue trompeuse. Car ils paîtront et se reposeront, sans que personne les trouble. | 13 The remnant of Israel will not do iniquity, nor speak lies, neither will a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth, for they will feed and lie down, and no one will make them afraid.” | 13 Die übrigen in Israel werden kein Böses tun noch Falsches reden, und man wird in ihrem Munde keine betrügliche Zunge finden ; sondern sie sollen weiden und ruhen ohne alle Furcht. |
| 14 Pousse des cris de joie, fille de Sion ! Pousse des cris d’allégresse, Israël ! Réjouis-toi et triomphe de tout ton cœur, fille de Jérusalem ! | 14 Sing, daughter of Zion! Shout, Israel!
