| 1 La parole de Yahweh fut adressée à Jonas, fils d’Amathi, en ces termes : | 1 Now the word of Yahweh came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, | 1 Es geschah das Wort des Herrn zu Jona, dem Sohn Amitthais, und sprach : |
| 2 " Lève-toi, va à Ninive, la grande ville, et prêche contre elle ; car leur méchanceté est montée jusqu’à moi. " | 2 “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach against it, for their wickedness has come up before me.” | 2 Mache dich auf und gehe in die große Stadt Ninive und predige wider sie ! denn ihre Bosheit ist heraufgekommen vor mich. |
| 3 Et Jonas se leva pour s’enfuir à Tharsis, loin de la face de Yahweh. Il descendit à Joppé, et trouva un vaisseau qui allait à Tharsis et, ayant payé son passage, il y descendit pour aller avec eux à Tharsis, loin de la face de Yahweh. | 3 But Jonah rose up to flee to Tarshish from the presence of Yahweh. He went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid its fare, and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of Yahweh. | 3 Aber Jona machte sich auf und floh vor dem Herrn und wollte gen Tharsis und kam hinab gen Japho. Und da er ein Schiff fand, das gen Tharsis wollte fahren, gab er Fährgeld und trat hinein, daß er mit ihnen gen Tharsis führe vor dem Herrn . |
| 4 Mais Yahweh fit souffler un grand vent sur la mer, et il y eut sur la mer une grande tempête ; le vaisseau menaçait de se briser. | 4 But Yahweh sent out a great wind on the sea, and there was a mighty storm on the sea, so that the ship was likely to break up. | 4 Da ließ der Herr einen großen Wind aufs Meer kommen, und es erhob sich ein großes Ungewitter auf dem Meer, daß man meinte, das Schiff würde zerbrechen. |
| 5 Les mariniers eurent peur ; ils crièrent chacun à leur dieu, et jetèrent à la mer les objets qui étaient sur le vaisseau, pour s’alléger. Et Jonas était descendu au fond du navire ; il s’était couché et dormait profondément. | 5 Then the mariners were afraid, and every man cried to his god. They threw the cargo that was in the ship into the sea to lighten the ship. But Jonah had gone down into the innermost parts of the ship, and he was laying down, and was fast asleep. | 5 Und die Schiffsleute fürchteten sich und schrieen, ein jeglicher zu seinem Gott, und warfen das Gerät, das im Schiff war, ins Meer, daß es leichter würde. Aber Jona war hinunter in das Schiff gestiegen, lag und schlief. |
| 6 Alors le chef de l’équipage s’approcha de lui et lui dit : " Qu’as-tu à dormir ? Lève-toi, invoque ton Dieu ; peut-être Dieu pensera-t-il à nous, et nous ne périrons point ! " | 6 So the shipmaster came to him, and said to him, “What do you mean, sleeper? Arise, call on your God! Maybe your God will notice us, so that we won’t perish.” | 6 Da trat zu ihm der Schiffsherr und sprach zu ihm : Was schläfst du ? Stehe auf, rufe deinen Gott an ! ob vielleicht Gott an uns gedenken wollte, daß wir nicht verdürben. |
| 7 Et ils se dirent les uns aux autres : " Venez, jetons les sorts, afin que nous sachions de qui nous vient ce mal. " Ils jetèrent les sorts, et le sort tomba sur Jonas. | 7 They all said to each other, “Come, let us cast lots, that we may know who is responsible for this evil that is on us.” So they cast lots, and the lot fell on Jonah. | 7 Und einer sprach zum andern : Kommt, wir wollen losen, daß wir erfahren, um welches willen es uns so übel gehe. Und da sie losten traf’s Jona. |
| 8 Alors ils lui dirent : " Dis-nous donc à cause de qui nous arrive ce mal ; quelle est ta profession, d’où viens-tu, quel est ton pays et de quel peuple es-tu ? | 8 Then they asked him, “Tell us, please, for whose cause this evil is on us. What is your occupation? Where do you come from? What is your country? Of what people are you?” | 8 Da sprachen sie zu ihm : Sage uns, warum geht es uns so übel ? was ist dein Gewerbe, und wo kommst du her ? Aus welchem Lande bist du, und von welchem Volk bist du ? |
| 9 Il leur répondit : " Je suis un Hébreu et j’adore Yahweh, le Dieu du ciel, qui a fait la mer et la terre. " | 9 He said to them, “I am a Hebrew, and I fear Yahweh, the God of heaven, who has made the sea and the dry land.” | 9 Er sprach zu ihnen : Ich bin ein Hebräer und fürchte den Herrn, den Gott des Himmels, welcher gemacht hat das Meer und das Trockene. |
| 10 Les hommes furent saisis d’une grande crainte, et ils lui dirent : " Qu’as-tu fait ! " Car les hommes savaient qu’il s’enfuyait loin de la face de Yahweh, parce qu’il le leur avait déclaré. | 10 Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said to him, “What is this that you have done?” For the men knew that he was fleeing from the presence of Yahweh, because he had told them. | 10 Da fürchteten sich die Leute sehr und sprachen zu ihm : Warum hast du denn solches getan ? denn sie wußten, daß er vor dem Herrn floh ; denn er hatte es ihnen gesagt. |
| 11 Ils lui dirent : " Que te ferons-nous, pour que la mer s’apaise pour nous ? " Car la mer continuait de se soulever de plus en plus. | 11 Then they said to him, “What shall we do to you, that the sea may be calm to us?” For the sea grew more and more stormy. | 11 Da sprachen sie zu ihm : Was sollen wir denn mit dir tun, daß uns das Meer still werde ? Denn das Meer fuhr ungestüm. |
| 12 Il leur répondit : " Prenez-moi et me jetez à la mer, et la mer s’apaisera pour vous ; car je sais que c’est à cause de moi que cette grande tempête est venue sur vous. " | 12 He said to them, “Take me up, and throw me into the sea. Then the sea will be calm for you; for I know that because of me this great storm is on you.” | 12 Er sprach zu ihnen : Nehmt mich und werft mich ins Meer, so wird euch das Meer still werden. Denn ich weiß, daß solch groß Ungewitter über euch kommt um meinetwillen. |
| 13 Les hommes ramaient pour ramener le vaisseau à la terre, mais ils ne le purent pas ; car la mer continuait de se soulever de plus en plus contre eux. | 13 Nevertheless the men rowed hard to get them back to the land; but they could not, for the sea grew more and more stormy against them. | 13 Und die Leute trieben, daß sie wieder zu Lande kämen ; aber sie konnten nicht, denn das Meer fuhr ungestüm wider sie. |
| 14 Alors ils crièrent à Yahweh et dirent : " Ah ! Yahweh, que nous ne périssions pas pour l’âme de cet homme, et ne nous chargez pas d’un sang innocent ; car c’est vous, Yahweh, qui avez fait comme il vous a plu. " | 14 Therefore they cried to Yahweh, and said, “We beg you, Yahweh, we beg you, don’t let us die for this man’s life, and don’t lay on us innocent blood; for you, Yahweh, have done as it pleased you.” | 14 Da riefen sie zu dem Herrn und sprachen : Ach Herr, laß uns nicht verderben um dieses Mannes Seele willen und rechne uns nicht zu unschuldig Blut ! denn du, Herr, tust, wie dir’s gefällt. |
| 15 Et prenant Jonas, ils le jetèrent à la mer ; et la mer calma sa fureur. | 15 So they took up Jonah, and threw him into the sea; and the sea ceased its raging. | 15 Und sie nahmen Jona und warfen ihn ins Meer ; das stand das Meer still von seinem Wüten. |
| 16 Et les hommes furent saisis d’une grande crainte pour Yahweh ; ils offrirent un sacrifice à Yahweh et firent des vœux. | 16 Then the men feared Yahweh exceedingly; and they offered a sacrifice to Yahweh, and made vows. | 16 Und die Leute fürchteten den Herr sehr und taten dem Herrn Opfer und Gelübde. |
| 1 Et Yahweh fit venir un grand poisson pour engloutir Jonas ; et Jonas fut dans les entrailles du poisson trois jours et trois nuits. | 17 Yahweh prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. & | 1 Aber der Herr verschaffte einen großen Fisch, Jona zu verschlingen. Und Jona war im Leibe des Fisches drei Tage und drei Nächte. |

| 2 Et des entrailles du poisson Jonas pria Yahweh, son Dieu. | 1 Then Jonah prayed to Yahweh, his God, out of the fish’s belly. | 2 Und Jona betete zu dem Herrn, seinem Gott, im Leibe des Fisches. |
| 3 Il dit : De la détresse où j’étais, j’ai invoqué Yahweh, et il m’a répondu ; du ventre du schéol, j’ai crié : vous avez entendu ma voix. | 2 He said, “I called because of my affliction to Yahweh.He answered me. Out of the belly of Sheol I cried.You heard my voice. | 3 Und sprach : Ich rief zu dem Herrn in meiner Angst, und er antwortete mir ; ich schrie aus dem Bauche der Hölle, und du hörtest meine Stimme. |
| 4 Vous m’aviez jeté dans l’abîme, au cœur des mers, et l’onde m’environnait ; tous vos flots et toutes vos vagues ont passé sur moi. | 3 For you threw me into the depths, in the heart of the seas.The flood was all around me. All your waves and your billows passed over me. | 4 Du warfest mich in die Tiefe mitten im Meer, daß die Fluten mich umgaben ; alle deine Wogen und Wellen gingen über mich, |
| 5 Et moi, je disais : je suis chassé de devant vos yeux ; pourtant je contemplerai encore votre saint temple. | 4 I said, ‘I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.’ | 5 daß ich gedachte, ich wäre von deinen Augen verstoßen, ich würde deinen heiligen Tempel nicht mehr sehen. |
| 6 Les eaux m’avaient enserré jusqu’à l’âme, l’abîme m’environnait, l’algue encerclait ma tête. | 5 The waters surrounded me, even to the soul.The deep was around me. The weeds were wrapped around my head. | 6 Wasser umgaben mich bis an mein Leben, die Tiefe umringte mich ; Schilf bedeckte mein Haupt. |
| 7 J’étais descendu jusqu’aux racines des montagnes ; les verrous de la terre étaient tirés sur moi pour toujours ! Et vous avez fait remonter ma vie de la fosse, Yahweh, mon Dieu ! | 6 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains. The earth barred me in forever: yet have you brought up my life from the pit, Yahweh my God. | 7 Ich sank hinunter zu der Berge Gründen, die Erde hatte mich verriegelt ewiglich ; aber du hast mein Leben aus dem Verderben geführt, Herr, mein Gott. |
| 8 Quand mon âme défaillait en moi, je me suis souvenu de Yahweh ; et ma prière est parvenue jusqu'à vous, à votre saint temple. | 7 “When my soul fainted within me, I remembered Yahweh. My prayer came in to you, into your holy temple. | 8 Da meine Seele bei mir verzagte, gedachte ich an den Herrn ; und mein Gebet kam zu dir in deinen heiligen Tempel. |
| 9 Ceux qui s’attachent à des vanités futiles abandonnent l’auteur de leur grâce. | 8 Those who regard lying vanities forsake their own mercy. | 9 Die da halten an dem Nichtigen, verlassen ihre Gnade. |
| 10 Mais moi, aux accents de louange, je vous offrirai un sacrifice ; le vœu que j’ai fait, je l’accomplirai. A Yahweh est le salut ! | 9 But I will sacrifice to you with the voice of thanksgiving.I will pay that which I have vowed. Salvation belongs to Yahweh.” | 10 Ich aber will mit Dank dir opfern, mein Gelübde will ich bezahlen ; denn die Hilfe ist des Herrn . |
| 11 Yahweh parla au poisson, et le poisson vomit Jonas sur la terre. | 10 Yahweh spoke to the fish, and it vomited out Jonah on the dry land. & | 11 Und der Herr sprach zum Fisch, und der spie Jona aus ans Land. |

| 1 La parole de Yahweh fut adressée une seconde fois à Jonas, en ces termes : | 1 The word of Yahweh came to Jonah the second time, saying, | 1 Und es geschah das Wort des Herrn zum andernmal zu Jona und sprach : |
| 2 " Lève-toi, va à Ninive, la grande ville, et prêche-lui la prédication que je te dirai. " | 2 “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I give you.” | 2 Mache dich auf, gehe in die große Stadt Ninive und predige ihr die Predigt, die ich dir sage ! |
| 3 Et Jonas se leva et alla à Ninive, selon la parole de Yahweh. Or Ninive était une ville grande devant Dieu, de trois journées de marche. | 3 So Jonah arose, and went to Nineveh, according to the word of Yahweh. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, three days’ journey across. | 3 Da machte sich Jona auf und ging hin gen Ninive, wie der Herr gesagt hatte. Ninive aber war eine große Stadt vor Gott, drei Tagereisen groß. |
| 4 Jonas commença à pénétrer dans la ville la marche d’une journée ; et il prêcha et dit : " Encore quarante jours et Ninive sera détruite !… " | 4 Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried out, and said, “In forty days, Nineveh will be overthrown!” | 4 Und da Jona anfing hineinzugehen eine Tagereise in die Stadt, predigte er und sprach : Es sind noch vierzig Tage, so wird Ninive untergehen. |
| 5 Les gens de Ninive crurent en Dieu ; ils publièrent un jeûne et se revêtirent de sacs, depuis le plus grand jusqu’au plus petit. | 5 The people of Nineveh believed God; and they proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them. | 5 Da glaubten die Leute zu Ninive an Gott und ließen predigen, man sollte fasten, und zogen Säcke an, beide, groß und klein. |
| 6 La chose étant parvenue au roi de Ninive, il se leva de son trône, ôta son manteau, se couvrit d’un sac et s’assît sur la cendre. | 6 The news reached the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and took off his royal robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. | 6 Und da das vor den König zu Ninive kam, stand er auf von seinem Thron und legte seinen Purpur ab und hüllte einen Sack um sich und setzte sich in die Asche |
| 7 Et on cria dans Ninive et on dit, par décret du roi et de ses grands, ces paroles : " Que ni hommes ni bêtes, bœufs et brebis, ne goûtent rien, ne paissent point et ne boivent point d’eau ; | 7 He made a proclamation and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, “Let neither man nor animal, herd nor flock, taste anything; let them not feed, nor drink water; | 7 und ließ ausrufen und sagen zu Ninive nach Befehl des Königs und seiner Gewaltigen also : Es sollen weder Mensch noch Vieh, weder Ochsen noch Schafe Nahrung nehmen, und man soll sie nicht weiden noch sie Wasser trinken lassen ; |
| 8 qu’ils se couvrent de sacs, hommes et bêtes, qu’ils crient à Dieu avec force, et qu’ils se détournent chacun de sa mauvaise voie et des actions de violence que commettent ses mains ! | 8 but let them be covered with sackcloth, both man and animal, and let them cry mightily to God. Yes, let them turn everyone from his evil way, and from the violence that is in his hands. | 8 und sollen Säcke um sich hüllen, beide, Menschen und Vieh, und zu Gott rufen heftig ; und ein jeglicher bekehre sich von seinem bösen Wege und vom Frevel seiner Hände. |
| 9 Qui sait si Dieu ne viendra pas à se repentir, et s’il ne reviendra pas de l’ardeur de sa colère, en sorte que nous ne périssions point ? " | 9 Who knows whether God will not turn and relent, and turn away from his fierce anger, so that we might not perish?” | 9 Wer weiß ? Es möchte Gott wiederum gereuen und er sich wenden von seinem grimmigen Zorn, daß wir nicht verderben. |
| 10 Dieu vit ce qu’ils faisaient, comment ils se détournaient de leur mauvaise voie ; et Dieu se repentit du mal qu’il avait annoncé qu’il leur ferait ; et il ne le fit pas. | 10 God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way. God relented of the disaster which he said he would do to them, and he didn’t do it. | 10 Da aber Gott sah ihre Werke, daß sie sich bekehrten von ihrem bösen Wege, reute ihn des Übels, das er geredet hatte ihnen zu tun, und tat’s nicht. |

| 1 Jonas en éprouva un vif chagrin, et il fut irrité. | 1 But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was angry. | 1 Das verdroß Jona gar sehr, und er ward zornig |
| 2 Il fit une prière à Yahweh et dit : " Ah ! Yahweh, n’est-ce pas là ce que je disais lorsque j’étais encore dans mon pays ? C’est pourquoi je me suis d’abord enfui à Tharsis ; car je savais que vous êtes un Dieu miséricordieux et clément, lent à la colère, riche en grâce et vous repentant du mal. | 2 He prayed to Yahweh, and said, “Please, Yahweh, wasn’t this what I said when I was still in my own country? Therefore I hurried to flee to Tarshish, for I knew that you are a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, and you relent of doing harm. | 2 und betete zum Herrn und sprach : Ach Herr, das ist’s, was ich sagte, da ich noch in meinem Lande war ; darum ich auch wollte zuvorkommen, zu fliehen gen Tharsis ; denn ich weiß, daß du gnädig, barmherzig, langmütig und von großer Güte bist und läßt dich des Übels reuen. |
| 3 Maintenant, Yahweh, retirez donc de moi mon âme, car la mort vaut mieux pour moi que la vie. " | 3 Therefore now, Yahweh, take, I beg you, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.” | 3 So nimm doch nun, Herr, meine Seele von mir ; denn ich wollte lieber tot sein als leben. |
| 4 Et Yahweh répondit : " Fais-tu bien de t’irriter ? " | 4 Yahweh said, “Is it right for you to be angry?” | 4 Aber der Herr sprach : Meinst du, daß du billig zürnst ? |
| 5 Et Jonas sortit de la ville et s’assit à l’orient de la ville ; là il se fit une hutte et s’assit dessous à l’ombre, jusqu’à ce qu’il vît ce qui arriverait dans la ville. | 5 Then Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made himself a booth, and sat under it in the shade, until he might see what would become of the city. | 5 Und Jona ging zur Stadt hinaus und setzte sich morgenwärts von der Stadt und machte sich daselbst eine Hütte ; darunter setzte er sich in den Schatten, bis er sähe, was der Stadt widerfahren würde. |
| 6 Et Yahweh-Dieu fit pousser un ricin qui s’éleva au-dessus de Jonas pour qu’il y eût de l’ombre sur sa tête, afin de le délivrer de son mal ; et Jonas éprouva une grande joie à cause du ricin. | 6 Yahweh God prepared a vine, and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shade over his head, to deliver him from his discomfort. So Jonah was exceedingly glad because of the vine. | 6 Gott der Herr aber verschaffte einen Rizinus, der wuchs über Jona, daß er Schatten gäbe über sein Haupt und errettete ihn von seinem Übel ; und Jona freute sich sehr über den Rizinus. |
| 7 Mais Yahweh fit venir, au lever de l’aurore, le lendemain, un ver qui piqua le ricin ; et il sécha. | 7 But God prepared a worm at dawn the next day, and it chewed on the vine, so that it withered. | 7 Aber Gott verschaffte einen Wurm des Morgens, da die Morgenröte anbrach ; der stach den Rizinus, daß er verdorrte. |
| 8 Et quand le soleil se leva, Yahweh fit venir un vent brûlant d’orient ; et le soleil donna sur la tête de Jonas, au point qu’il défaillit. Il demanda de mourir et dit : " La mort vaut mieux pour moi que la vie. " | 8 It happened, when the sun arose, that God prepared a sultry east wind; and the sun beat on Jonah’s head, so that he fainted, and requested for himself that he might die, and said, “It is better for me to die than to live.” | 8 Als aber die Sonne aufgegangen war, verschaffte Gott einen dürren Ostwind ; und die Sonne stach Jona auf den Kopf, daß er matt ward. Da wünschte er seiner Seele den Tod und sprach : Ich wollte lieber tot sein als leben. |
| 9 Alors Dieu dit à Jonas : " Fais-tu bien de t’irriter à cause du ricin ? " Il répondit : " Je fais bien de m’irriter jusqu’à la mort. " | 9 God said to Jonah, “Is it right for you to be angry about the vine?” He said, “I am right to be angry, even to death.” | 9 Da sprach Gott zu Jona : Meinst du, daß du billig zürnst um den ? Und er sprach : Billig zürne ich bis an den Tod. Rizinus |
| 10 Et Yahweh dit : " Tu t’affliges au sujet du ricin pour lequel tu n’as pas travaillé et que tu n’as pas fait croître, qui est venu en une nuit et qui a péri en une nuit ; | 10 Yahweh said, “You have been concerned for the vine, for which you have not labored, neither made it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night. | 10 Und der Herr sprach : Dich jammert des Rizinus, daran du nicht gearbeitet hast, hast ihn auch nicht aufgezogen, welcher in einer Nacht ward und in einer Nacht verdarb ; |
| 11 et moi, je ne m’affligerais pas au sujet de Ninive, la grande ville, dans laquelle il y a plus de cent vingt mille hommes qui ne distinguent pas leur droite de leur gauche, et des animaux en grand nombre ! " | 11 Shouldn’t I be concerned for Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred twenty thousand persons who can’t discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much livestock?” | 11 und mich sollte nicht jammern Ninives, solcher großen Stadt, in welcher sind mehr denn hundert und zwanzigtausend Menschen, die nicht wissen Unterschied, was rechts oder links ist, dazu auch viele Tiere ? |
