| 5 Lorsque ces jours furent écoulés, le roi fit pour tout le peuple qui se trouvait à Suse, la capitale, depuis le plus grand jusqu’au plus petit, un festin de sept jours, dans la cour du jardin de la maison royale. | 5 When these days were fulfilled, the king made a seven day feast for all the people who were present in Shushan the palace, both great and small, in the court of the garden of the king’s palace. | 5 Und da die Tage aus waren, machte der König ein Mahl allem Volk, das zu Schloß Susan war, Großen und Kleinen, sieben Tage lang im Hofe des Gartens am Hause des Königs. |

| 7 On servait à boire dans des vases d’or de différentes formes, et le vin royal était offert en abondance, grâce à la libéralité du roi. | 7 They gave them drinks in golden vessels of various kinds, including royal wine in abundance, according to the bounty of the king. | 7 Und das Getränk trug man in goldenen Gefäßen und immer andern und andern Gefäßen, und königlichen Wein die Menge, wie denn der König vermochte. |
| 8 Suivant le décret, chacun buvait sans que personne lui fît violence, car le roi avait ordonné à tous les officiers de sa maison de se conformer à la volonté de chacun des convives. | 8 In accordance with the law, the drinking was not compulsory; for so the king had instructed all the officials of his house, that they should do according to every man’s pleasure. | 8 Und man setzte niemand, was er trinken sollte ; denn der König hatte allen Vorstehern befohlen, daß ein jeglicher sollte tun, wie es ihm wohl gefiel. |
| 9 La reine Vasthi fit aussi un festin pour les femmes, dans la maison royale du roi Assuérus. | 9 Also Vashti the queen made a feast for the women in the royal house which belonged to King Ahasuerus. | 9 Und die Königin Vasthi machte auch ein Mahl für die Weiber im königlichen Hause des Königs Ahasveros. |
| 10 Le septième jour, comme le vin avait mis la joie au cœur du roi, il ordonna à Maüman, Bazatha, Harbona, Bagatha, Abgatha, Zéthar et Charchas, les sept eunuques qui servaient devant le roi Assuérus, | 10 On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcass, the seven eunuchs who served in the presence of Ahasuerus the king, | 10 Und am siebenten Tage, da der König gutes Muts war vom Wein, hieß er Mehuman, Bistha, Harbona, Bigtha, Abagtha, Sethar und Charkas, die sieben Kämmerer, die vor dem König Ahasveros dienten, |

| 12 Mais la reine Vasthi refusa de se rendre au commandement du roi, qu’elle avait reçu par l’intermédiaire des eunuques, et le roi fut très irrité et sa colère s’enflamma. | 12 But the queen Vashti refused to come at the king’s commandment by the eunuchs. Therefore the king was very angry, and his anger burned in him. | 12 Aber die Königin Vasthi wollte nicht kommen nach dem Wort des Königs durch seine Kämmerer. Da ward der König sehr zornig, und sein Grimm entbrannte in ihm. |
| 13 Alors le roi s’adressa aux sages qui avaient la connaissance des temps : — car ainsi se traitaient les affaires du roi, devant tous ceux qui étaient experts dans la loi et le droit, | 13 Then the king said to the wise men, who knew the times, (for it was the king’s custom to consult those who knew law and judgment; | 13 Und der König sprach zu den Weisen, die sich auf die Zeiten verstanden (denn des Königs Sachen mußten geschehen vor allen, die sich auf Recht und Händel verstanden ; |

| 15 " Quelle loi, dit-il, doit-on appliquer à la reine Vasthi, pour n’avoir pas exécuté l’ordre du roi Assuérus, qu’il lui a donné par l’intermédiaire des eunuques ? " | 15“What shall we do to the queen Vashti according to law, because she has not done the bidding of the King Ahasuerus by the eunuchs?” | 15 was für ein Recht man an der Königin Vasthi tun sollte, darum daß sie nicht getan hatte nach dem Wort des Königs durch seine Kämmerer. |
| 16 Mamuchan répondit devant le roi et les princes : " Ce n’est pas seulement à l’égard du roi que la reine Vasthi a mal agi, mais aussi envers tous les princes et tous les peuples qui sont dans toutes les provinces du roi Assuérus. | 16 Memucan answered before the king and the princes, “Vashti the queen has not done wrong to just the king, but also to all the princes, and to all the people who are in all the provinces of the King Ahasuerus. | 16 Da sprach Memuchan vor dem König und den Fürsten : Die Königin Vasthi hat nicht allein an dem König übel getan, sondern auch an allen Fürsten und an allen Völkern in allen Landen des Königs Ahasveros. |
| 17 Car l’action de la reine viendra à la connaissance de toutes les femmes et les portera à mépriser leurs maris ; elles diront : Le roi Assuérus avait ordonné qu’on amenât en sa présence la reine Vasthi, et elle n’y est point allée. | 17 For this deed of the queen will become known to all women, causing them to show contempt for their husbands, when it is reported, ‘King Ahasuerus commanded Vashti the queen to be brought in before him, but she didn’t come.’ | 17 Denn es wird solche Tat der Königin auskommen zu allen Weibern, daß sie ihre Männer verachten vor ihren Augen und werden sagen : Der König Ahasveros hieß die Königin Vasthi vor sich kommen ; aber sie wollte nicht. |
| 18 Et dès aujourd’hui, les princesses de Perse et de Médie, qui auront appris l’action de la reine, la citeront à tous les princes du roi, et il en résultera beaucoup de mépris et de colère. | 18 Today, the princesses of Persia and Media who have heard of the queen’s deed will tell all the king’s princes. This will cause much contempt and wrath. | 18 So werden nun die Fürstinnen in Persien und Medien auch so sagen zu allen Fürsten des Königs, wenn sie solche Tat der Königin hören ; so wird sich Verachtens und Zorn genug erheben. |
| 19 Si le roi le trouve bon, qu’on publie de sa part et qu’on inscrive parmi les lois des Perses et des Mèdes, pour n’être pas enfreinte, une ordonnance royale portant que la reine Vasthi ne paraîtra plus devant le roi Assuérus, et que le roi donnera sa dignité de reine à une autre qui soit meilleure qu’elle. | 19“If it please the king, let a royal commandment go from him, and let it be written among the laws of the Persians and the Medes, so that it cannot be altered, that Vashti may never again come before King Ahasuerus; and let the king give her royal estate to another who is better than she. | 19 Gefällt es dem König, so lasse man ein königlich Gebot von ihm ausgehen und schreiben nach der Perser und Meder Gesetz, welches man nicht darf übertreten : daß Vasthi nicht mehr vor den König Ahasveros komme, und der König gebe ihre königliche Würde einer andern, die besser ist denn sie. |
| 20 Et quand l’édit du roi sera connu dans tout son royaume, qui est vaste, toutes les femmes rendront honneur à leurs maris, depuis le plus grand jusqu’au plus petit. " | 20 When the king’s decree which he shall make is published throughout all his kingdom (for it is great), all the wives will give their husbands honor, both great and small.” | 20 Und es erschalle dieser Befehl des Königs, den er geben wird, in sein ganzes Reich, welches groß ist, daß alle Weiber ihre Männer in Ehren halten, unter Großen und Kleinen. |
| 21 Le conseil plut au roi et aux princes, et le roi agit selon le discours de Mamuchan. | 21 This advice pleased the king and the princes, and the king did according to the word of Memucan: | 21 Das gefiel dem König und den Fürsten ; und der König tat nach dem Wort Memuchans. |
| 22 Il envoya des lettres à toutes les provinces du royaume, à chaque province selon son écriture et à chaque peuple selon sa langue ; elles portaient que tout mari devait être le maître dans sa maison et qu’il parlerait le langage de son peuple. | 22 for he sent letters into all the king’s provinces, into every province according to its writing, and to every people in their language, that every man should rule his own house, speaking in the language of his own people. | 22 Da wurden Briefe ausgesandt in alle Länder des Königs, in ein jegliches Land nach seiner Schrift und zu jeglichem Volk nach seiner Sprache : daß ein jeglicher Mann der Oberherr in seinem Hause sei und ließe reden nach der Sprache seines Volkes. |

| 1 Après ces choses, quand la colère du roi Assuérus se fut calmée, il se rappela Vasthi, ce qu’elle avait fait et la décision qui avait été prise à son sujet. | 1 After these things, when the wrath of King Ahasuerus was pacified, he remembered Vashti, and what she had done, and what was decreed against her. | 1 Nach diesen Geschichten, da der Grimm des Königs Ahasveros sich gelegt hatte, gedachte er an Vasthi, was sie getan hatte und was über sie beschlossen war. |
| 2 Alors les serviteurs du roi, qui étaient en fonctions près de lui, dirent : " Qu’on cherche pour le roi des jeunes filles, vierges et belles de figure ; | 2 Then the king’s servants who served him said, “Let beautiful young virgins be sought for the king. | 2 Da sprachen die Diener des Königs, die ihm dienten : Man suche dem König junge, schöne Jungfrauen, |
| 3 que le roi établisse dans toutes les provinces de son royaume des officiers chargés de rassembler toutes les jeunes filles, vierges et belles de figure, à Suse, la capitale, dans la maison des femmes, sous la surveillance d’Egée, eunuque du roi et gardien des femmes, qui pourvoira à leur toilette ; | 3 Let the king appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom, that they may gather together all the beautiful young virgins to the citadel of Susa, to the women’s house, to the custody of Hegai the king’s eunuch, keeper of the women. Let cosmetics be given them; | 3 und der König bestellte Männer in allen Landen seines Königreichs, daß sie allerlei junge, schöne Jungfrauen zusammenbringen gen Schloß Susan ins Frauenhaus unter der Hand Hegais, des Königs Kämmerers, der der Weiber wartet, und man gebe ihnen ihren Schmuck ; |
| 4 et que la jeune fille qui plaira au roi devienne reine à la place de Vasthi. The maiden was fair and beautiful; and when her father and mother were dead, Mordecai took her for his own daughter. | 7 Und er war ein Vormund der Hadassa, das ist Esther, eine Tochter seines Oheims ; denn sie hatte weder Vater noch Mutter. | 8 Lorsqu’on eut publié l’ordre du roi et son édit, et que de nombreuses jeunes filles furent rassemblées à Suse, la capitale, sous la surveillance d’Egée, Esther fut prise aussi et amenée dans la maison du roi, sous la surveillance d’Egée, gardien des femmes. | 8 So it happened, when the king’s commandment and his decree was heard, and when many maidens were gathered together to the citadel of Susa, to the custody of Hegai, that Esther was taken into the king’s house, to the custody of Hegai, keeper of the women. | 8 Da nun das Gebot und Gesetz des Königs laut ward und viel Dirnen zuhaufe gebracht wurden gen Schloß Susan unter die Hand Hegais, ward Esther auch genommen zu des Königs Hause unter die Hand Hegais, des Hüters der Weiber. |
| 9 La jeune fille lui plut et gagna sa faveur ; il s’empressa de lui fournir les choses nécessaires à sa toilette et à sa subsistance, de lui donner sept jeunes filles choisies dans la maison du roi, et il la fit passer avec elles dans le meilleur appartement de la maison des femmes. | 9 The maiden pleased him, and she obtained kindness from him. He quickly gave her cosmetics and her portions of food, and the seven choice maidens who were to be given her out of the king’s house. He moved her and her maidens to the best place in the women’s house. | 9 Und die Dirne gefiel ihm, und sie fand Barmherzigkeit vor ihm. Und er eilte mit ihrem Schmuck, daß er ihr ihren Teil gäbe und sieben feine Dirnen von des Königs Hause dazu. Und er tat sie mit ihren Dirnen an den besten Ort im Frauenhaus. |
| 10 Esther ne fit connaître ni son peuple ni sa naissance, car Mardochée lui avait défendu d’en parler. | 10 Esther had not made known her people nor her relatives, because Mordecai had instructed her that she should not make it known. | 10 Und Esther sagte ihm nicht an ihr Volk und ihre Freundschaft ; denn Mardochai hatte ihr geboten, sie sollte es nicht ansagen. |
| 11 Chaque jour Mardochée se promenait devant la cour de la maison des femmes, pour savoir comment se portait Esther et comment on la traitait. | 11 Mordecai walked every day in front of the court of the women’s house, to find out how Esther did, and what would become of her. | 11 Und Mardochai wandelte alle Tage vor dem Hofe am Frauenhaus, daß er erführe, ob’s Esther wohl ginge und was ihr geschehen würde. |
| 12 Et quand arrivait pour chaque jeune fille le tour d’aller vers le Roi Assuérus, après avoir passé douze mois à accomplir ce qui était prescrit aux femmes, — et voici ce que comportait le temps de leur purification : pendant six mois, elles se purifiaient avec de l’huile de myrrhe, et pendant six mois avec des aromates et des parfums en usage parmi les femmes, — | 12 Each young woman’s turn came to go in to King Ahasuerus after her purification for twelve months (for so were the days of their purification accomplished, six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with sweet fragrances and with preparations for beautifying women). | 12 Wenn aber die bestimmte Zeit einer jeglichen Dirne kam, daß sie zum König Ahasveros kommen sollte, nachdem sie zwölf Monate im Frauen-Schmücken gewesen war (denn ihr Schmücken mußte soviel Zeit haben, nämlich sechs Monate mit Balsam und Myrrhe und sechs Monate mit guter Spezerei, so waren denn die Weiber geschmückt) : |
| 13 et que la jeune fille allait vers le roi, on lui permettait de prendre avec elle ce qu’elle voulait, pour aller de la maison des femmes dans la maison du roi. | 13 The young woman then came to the king like this: whatever she desired was given her to go with her out of the women’s house to the king’s house. | 13 alsdann ging die Dirne zum König und alles, was sie wollte, mußte man ihr geben, daß sie damit vom Frauenhaus zu des Königs Hause ginge. |
| 14 Elle s’y rendait le soir, et le lendemain matin elle passait dans la seconde maison des femmes, sous la surveillance de Susagaz, eunuque du roi et gardien des concubines. Elle ne retournait plus vers le roi, à moins que le roi ne la désirât et qu’elle ne fût appelée nommément. | 14 In the evening she went, and on the next day she returned into the second women’s house, to the custody of Shaashgaz, the king’s eunuch, who kept the concubines. She came in to the king no more, unless the king delighted in her, and she was called by name. | 14 Und wenn eine des Abends hineinkam, die ging des Morgens von ihm in das andere Frauenhaus unter die Hand des Saasgas, des Königs Kämmerers, des Hüters der Kebsweiber Und sie durfte nicht wieder zum König kommen, es lüstete denn den König und er ließ sie mit Namen rufen. |
| 15 Lorsque son tour d’aller vers le roi fut arrivé, Esther, fille d’Abihaïl, oncle de Mardochée qui l’avait adoptée pour fille, ne demanda pas autre chose que ce que désigna Egée, eunuque du roi et gardien des femmes ; mais Esther plut aux yeux de tous ceux qui la virent. | 15 Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, came to go in to the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king’s eunuch, the keeper of the women, advised. Esther obtained favor in the sight of all those who looked at her. | 15 Da nun die Zeit Esthers herankam, der Tochter Abihails, des Oheims Mardochais (die er zur Tochter hatte aufgenommen), daß sie zum König kommen sollte, begehrte sie nichts, denn was Hegai, des Königs Kämmerer, der Weiber Hüter, sprach. Und Esther fand Gnade vor allen, die sie ansahen. |
| 16 Esther fut conduite auprès du roi Assuérus, dans sa maison royale, le dixième mois, qui est le mois de Tébeth, la septième année de son règne. | 16 So Esther was taken to King Ahasuerus into his royal house in the tenth month, which is the month Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign. | 16 Es ward aber Esther genommen zum König Ahasveros ins königliche Haus im zehnten Monat, der da heißt Tebeth, im siebenten Jahr seines Königreichs. |
| 17 Le roi aima Esther plus que toutes les femmes, et elle obtint grâce et faveur auprès de lui plus que toutes les jeunes filles. Il mit le diadème royal sur sa tête, et la fit reine à la place de Vasthi. | 17 The king loved Esther more than all the women, and she obtained favor and kindness in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown on her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti. | 17 Und der König gewann Esther lieb über alle Weiber, und sie fand Gnade und Barmherzigkeit vor ihm vor allen Jungfrauen. Und er setzte die königliche Krone auf ihr Haupt und machte sie zur Königin an Vasthis Statt. |
| 18 Le roi donna un grand festin à tous ses princes et à ses serviteurs, le festin d’Esther ; il accorda du repos aux provinces et fit des largesses avec une munificence royale. | 18 Then the king made a great feast for all his princes and his servants, even Esther’s feast; and he proclaimed a holiday in the provinces, and gave gifts according to the king’s bounty. | 18 Und der König machte ein großes Mahl allen seinen Fürsten und Knechten, das war ein Mahl um Esthers willen, und ließ die Länder ruhen und gab königliche Geschenke aus. |
| 19 La seconde fois qu’on rassembla des jeunes filles, Mardochée était assis à la porte du roi. | 19 When the virgins were gathered together the second time, Mordecai was sitting in the king’s gate. | 19 Und da man das anderemal Jungfrauen versammelte, saß Mardochai im Tor des Königs. |
| 20 Esther n’avait fait connaître ni sa naissance ni son peuple, selon que Mardochée le lui avait ordonné ; et Esther suivait les ordres de Mardochée, comme lorsqu’elle était élevée par lui. | 20 Esther had not yet made known her relatives nor her people, as Mordecai had commanded her; for Esther obeyed Mordecai, like she did when she was brought up by him. | 20 Und Esther hatte noch nicht angesagt ihre Freundschaft noch ihr Volk, wie ihr Mardochai geboten hatte ; denn Esther tat nach den Worten Mardochais, gleich als da er ihr Vormund war. |
| 21 En ces jours-là, comme Mardochée était assis à la porte du roi, Bagathan et Tharès, deux eunuques du roi, gardes du palais, poussés par la colère, voulurent porter la main sur le roi Assuérus. | 21 In those days, while Mordecai was sitting in the king’s gate, two of the king’s eunuchs, Bigthan and Teresh, who were doorkeepers, were angry, and sought to lay hands on the King Ahasuerus. | 21 Zur selben Zeit, da Mardochai im Tor des Königs saß, wurden zwei Kämmerer des Königs, Bigthan und Theres, die die Tür hüteten, zornig und trachteten ihre Hände an den König Ahasveros zu legen. |

Quelle est ta demande ? Elle te sera accordée. Quel est ton désir ? Il sera accompli. " | 12 The king said to Esther the queen, “The Jews have slain and destroyed five hundred men in the citadel of Susa, including the ten sons of Haman; what then have they done in the rest of the king’s provinces! Now what is your petition? It shall be granted you. What is your further request? | 13 Esther répondit : " Si le roi le trouve bon, qu’il soit permis aux Juifs qui sont à Suse d’agir encore demain selon le décret d’aujourd’hui, et que l’on pende au bois des dix fils d’Aman. " | 13 Then Esther said, “If it pleases the king, let it be granted to the Jews who are in Shushan to do tomorrow also according to this day’s decree, and let Haman’s ten sons be hanged on the gallows.” | 13 Esther sprach : Gefällt’s dem König, so lasse er auch morgen die Juden tun nach dem heutigen Gebot, und die zehn Söhne Hamans soll man an den Baum hängen. |

| 16 Les autres Juifs qui étaient dans les provinces du roi se rassemblèrent pour défendre leur vie et obtenir que leurs ennemis les laissassent en repos ; ils tuèrent soixante-quinze mille de ceux qui leur étaient hostiles. Mais ils ne mirent pas la main au pillage. | 16 The other Jews who were in the king’s provinces gathered themselves together, defended their lives, had rest from their enemies, and killed seventy-five thousand of those who hated them; but they didn’t lay their hand on the plunder. | 16 Aber die andern Juden in den Ländern des Königs kamen zusammen und standen für ihr Leben, daß sie Ruhe schafften vor ihren Feinden, und erwürgten ihrer Feinde fünfundsiebzigtausend ; aber an ihre Güter legten sie ihre Hände nicht. |

| 25 Mais Esther s’étant présentée devant le roi, celui-ci ordonna par écrit de faire retomber sur la tête d’Aman le méchant projet qu’il avait formé contre les Juifs, et on le pendit au bois avec ses fils. | 25 but when this became known to the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked device, which he had devised against the Jews, should return on his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows. | 25 und wie Esther zum König gegangen war und derselbe durch Briefe geboten hatte, daß seine bösen Anschläge, die er wider die Juden gedacht, auf seinen Kopf gekehrt würden ; und wie man ihn und seine Söhne an den Baum gehängt hatte. |
